Hero lied to heroine and told her he NEVER had any sexual relationship with the OW. He did.
There were photos of sexual nature released to public which the hero “claims” was staged and he was ambushed.
People keeps on sending heroine those photos to look at.
He lied about not sleeping with the OW, and now heroine has the photo.
Heroine may choose to believe him.
I don’t see a single reason as to why I should.
He lied once, he can lie again, evidences can be circumstantial, yes. But since it’s his word vs evidence, I’ll take the evidences. Thank you very much.
And his answer to why he lied? He slept with OW before heroine’s time. So he’s not just a liar, he’s also a bimbo. Because heroine didn’t ask him if he slept with OW before her. She asked why he lied. And he lied when she didn’t even ask for an explanation. He voluntarily gave her false information. And never EVER apologised for or acknowledged his fault of lying.
So. Yeah, nah.

Sweet story that lost a star because the conflict shifted from the H/h to the hero having revenge issues with his stepmother. The original conflict was the hero becoming suspicious of the heroine's friendship with his grandfather and her work with the local historical society using his English estate for tours and fundraising. The hero owns a Russian mining company and lives there, but he has property in England for tax purposes.

The opening of the story is a funny encounter with the heroine in a size large snow suit and the hero thinking she is a man. But the hero changes his tune quickly as he is attracted to her hourglass, size large figure.

The characterizations in this one are really well done - from the grandfather, the widowed heroine's daughter - even her very nice in-laws who are hoping she'll find a nice man and marry again.

As I said in the opening, the story takes a wrong turn to establish the hero's "ruthlessness" by tacking on a revenge scheme that included a lingerie designer who had taken sexy photos with the hero before he had ever met the heroine. The heroine was right to not take them too seriously - although the village grapevine did buzz for awhile.

I liked the straight-forward, slightly shy heroine and the smitten hero who was teddy bear inside.

2-7-18: Just did a re-read of this. Love. This. Book.

This is my VALENTINE'S RECOMMENDATION for the year. This book is everything. Sexy Russian hero, adorable and determined heroine, cute little girl, scheming and well-meaning Russian grandfather, a charming British village, perfect amount of angst and conflict (not too much). Also, the heroine is a "curvy" girl--plus points for that!

The writing is superb. And the meet-cute is so freakin' awesome, I could not stop laughing!

Treat yourself to this book for Valentine's Day. Brilliant!

***

Holy Macarena! This is one of the best HPs I have ever read.

Charming, adorable, lovely story with a satisfying HEA. Pure romance!

Pretty sweet story between the big bad (NOT) Ruskie hero and the voluptuous widow.

I was either skimming, seriously out of it, or there were chunks missing at the first third as continuity was off for me. I am perfectly happy to take the blame.

The H is mistrustful at first, but quickly becomes enthralled with the heroine and her zaftig ways. He's a really nice guy which strangely enough most fictional Russian heroes are. He has some stepmother issues he has to work out, but all and all he's a great guy. She's a good heroine as well.

No slut shaming, minimal gold-digger accusations, etc. It dials down the angst and drama, but there is some nice witty dialogue to compensate.

Even the evil OW, I hardly can call her an evil OW, as she gives credit to the heroine as to why she includes more voluptuous models in addition to skeletors in her lingerie fashion show.

It just seemed a little unpolished.

A fun, warm, entertaining read with a likeable heroine, ruthless-at-times hero, and lovely English village setting.

Sybella is very easy to warm to. She’s a widow with a child who isn’t the hero’s, which is intriguing and conflictingly unusual for a Harlequin Presents/Mills & Boon Modern. I didn't totally root for her at first because, whichever way it’s dressed, she still feels kind of culpable for taking advantage of the hero’s grandfather SPOILER opening up the hero's house to the public very big grin END OF SPOILER. But she does have nearly everyone’s best interests at heart, including the grandfather’s (and her own) and it does make her everso slightly flawed.

Fun first meet. And I loved the continuing interaction. Some of it circles a bit, as a third of the way through they’re still levelling the same accusations at each other, when it’s definitely time to move on, but it is very entertaining, like an extended first meet, and first meets are my favourite bit. I definitely got more than my money’s worth here.

The heroine and country house setting have a bit of a Kim Lawrence, Lynn Graham, India Grey feel. If you’re a fan of these authors’ heroines I think you’ll like this one.

Nik's lovely alpha protectiveness makes him softer around the edges in the way he interacts with Sybella, his grandfather and Sybella's daughter. His softer side, together with the setting, the cast, and only a first impression of ruthlessness give this read a sort of hybrid Presents/Modern and Romance/True Love feel thru the beginning and middle.

Sybella's conflict is very easy to relate to. Presents’ angst levels are lower during the book’s first two thirds than I like, but she is 3D and I liked how she’d obviously dealt with her emotional conflict roots herself.

Nik's internal conflict sits in the background so you almost forget it's there. Perhaps it's a bit too much in the background? It’s not a straightforward conflict/character arc to track; the fuses (did I mention he owns a mine) leading to the black moment are perhaps not all in place and a bit too well buried? Lulling me into a false sense of security. I couldn't predict how and where it was going to impact the black moment, which is great from a not-being-able-to-work out what’s going to happen point of view, but does dissipate the tension, and there’s less angst, passion and drama than I like, again feeding into that hybrid Presents-Romance feel.

The first sucker-punch Black Moment impacts how the heroine feels about him, closely followed by the real thing. Sybella's fallen for Nik's softer side and then has to confront the product of his conflict, unburied ruthlessness. Which she does. Brilliantly. There’s quite a lot of conflict to resolve for him and Ellis drills down into character and conflict leading nicely to a lovely, satisfying ending and Happily-Ever-After epilogue.

Redemption of a Ruthless Billionaire by Lucy Ellis is a sexy romance featuring a jaded businessman and a single mom who makes him realize that money isn’t everything.

Nik Voronov, a mining billionaire, bought the historic Edbury estate in the English countryside as an investment and for his grandfather to have a place to live in the UK while receiving medical treatment. At the time he’d stopped the local heritage society from giving tours of the place, and when he discovers that they are ongoing he goes personally to investigate.

Sybella Parminter is head of the Heritage Trust and is quite happy to work with the elderly Mr. Voronov to show his home. They’ve become good friends, and he’s wonderful with her young daughter too. But his grandson, Nik is another story. Rude and arrogant on their first meeting, his threats to have her fired are particularly irritating since she finds him physically attractive. When Nik comes by her house to apologize and to clear up some of the misunderstandings, their chemistry leads to a hot and steamy night together.

Nik would like to keep their affair ongoing, but Sybella is used to a much simpler life and has no interest in moving to one of his fancy homes in another country. Can these two lovers find common ground on which to build a real relationship?

Sybella is a widow, living in a small Cotswold village and volunteering on the Heritage Trust that works for the preservation of a local estate with a lot of history. She's been working closely with the owner's grandfather, who lives in the house, on bringing that history to the public with tours, open houses, etc. But Nik Voronov, the actual owner, learns what is happening and is furious, believing that Sybella is taking advantage of his grandfather and engineered this whole thing to make some money at his expense. There's a lot of misunderstanding before Nik realizes how wrong he is and how much he likes Sybella (and her daughter). He begins to fall in love, but keeps a part of himself hidden. Sybella begins to see that Nik has a darker, hidden side which is focused on revenge and destruction and lashing out at those who hurt him...and she's not sure she can be with a man like that no matter how much she loves him.

This was my first Lucy Ellis book, and I may be on the lookout for more. I appreciate that we have a heroine who is on the plus side who has a moment of insecure self-deprecation but doesn't let her body image affect her sex life or self-esteem for more than a few minutes. It's not a debilitating insecurity or anything, but you can tell she has them. But I liked that she was able to see her own value. I also much appreciated that life with her husband had been real, not perfect or idealized and while she tries to remember her husband in his best light, she acknowledges that he wasn't perfect.

The beginning of this story, with all the misunderstandings was a touch confusing, as I didn't understand what the letters were about nor, at first, why Sybella wasn't bothering to defend herself. But it began to make sense, and I like that Nik apologizes and uses the actions as evidence of Sybella's loyal character, which only bolsters their friendship. Then Nik begins to fall for Sybella, but isn't sure he can handle a relationship with her. But he goes for it. And I didn't even realize that darker side was under there, though he did hint at it. Then the OW drama started coming and the trust issues were developing and then Sybella realized it wasn't infidelity...it was a hidden side to the man she loved. The confrontation was good - it ratcheted up the angst and had me wondering if they could recover. Especially in light of the things he'd said in his anger and Sybella's reaction to them. But while Nik does beg Sybella's forgiveness through his actions (and quite satisfactorily I might add) and shows her that he's changed, he never really addresses the hurt that his words might have done, and Sybella doesn't really ask him to. And the discomfort that Sybella was feeling over the OW thing miraculously disappears too. The author seemed to bring up several key problems between the two, but didn't satisfactorily tie up all of them...instead just letting them fade away. The epilogue was quite sweet and reinforced that Nik had learned his lesson, but it felt a bit hokey with all the "remember when" moments.

Firstly, I have to say I adore the book cover!!! And the book too. Sybella was not the typical HP heroine. I liked her. Nik was a great H! He was so into the h, it made me swoon. Would have been 5 stars but the stepmama drama detracted from the love story a bit.

Sybella Parminter has struggled to better her life, as well as her daughter's. Working to gain experience in her career, she also volunteers with The Heritage Trust. Through them, she works to bring Edbury Hall back to it's heritage. Open to the public. A place that history can be embraced.

Nik Voronov does not want anything to interfere with his adoptive grandfather's home. His grandfather finally found a little peace after the death of his wife in the Hall. He did not want anyone taking advantage of him. But the woman his grandfather had wanted him to meet, that would bring him happiness, was a lot more than what he thought. No where near the conniving thief he thought was taking advantage of his grandfather. Sybella struck a cord deep in him.

Sybella had been widowed very early in her marriage. Alone to raise her daughter, she relied on the family she had formed with the town and the family that had embraced her when she married. A sense of belonging finally fulfilled. And then Nik came in to her life. More than just a rich and busy man. He had a lot of the same or similar struggles she had gone through. The life they could have, overshadowed by demons from his past.

Very sweet. Fast paced. A fun and thrilling story.

We meet the elder Mr Voronov, but never learn his name.
His grandson Nik (Nikolai) lives in St Petersburg and has mines in Ural mountains. His other grandson Alexander (Sasha ) is a playboy .Mr Voronov lives in Edbury Hall in a small village.
Nik arrives and learns the Hall is oopen to public, the local branch of National Trust uses it ...He also mistakes Sybella for an intruder...
Sybella urges Nik to spend more time with his grandfather (Deda ) and learn more about the local history. Her 5 year old daughter ,Fleur , is probably dyslexic, although it isn't mentioned openly.
And how is he connected to Marla Mendez ?

I enjoyed the interaction between the hero and heroine Nik and Sybella. He believes she has gotten her claws into his grandfather and can't see that his grandfather is setting him up to settle down. He has sung Sybella's praise's about how she is good with children, good at giving tours of the old home, Nic thought she was a gold digger. This was a good story and worth the read.

"Ellis' characters are quite well-drawn and her dialogue is skillful. The exchanges between billionaire Nik and Sybella are quite realistic, and Sybella's character in particular is completely believable, especially in her anger and disappointment over his revenge scheme" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).

Only took me over a day because I'm sick and not in the mood to read but I want to read. Very time consuming.

Enjoyed this book though. Romance was sweet.

I didn't think he was that ruthless, maybe that is from my reading expanding into weird territories. Nice for an M&B read
