A-Fourteen has been wasting away in a dungeon for decades. Tortured for years in the name of science, he was stripped of everything—including his name. Scientists want to know the secret to the Kan Asma Vampires’ longevity, but there’s no way they’ll make him talk. They’ve tried everything, but he’d rather die than betray his people.
When they bring the frightened scientist into his cell, he is unimpressed with their newest tactic. The moment he tastes the blood of that unsuspecting woman, his entire world is turned upside down. Mariyah touches him with kindness and manages to shatter his resistance. Because of her, A-Fourteen feels more alive than he has in years. She promises to try and save him. But can he trust her?
Mariyah’s life takes a deadly turn when her blood becomes the key to the Lifespan Institute’s fountain of youth. When she is left to bleed out in the cell of a vampire prisoner, the last thing she expects is to survive. A-Fourteen shows her mercy by not killing her…and Mariyah ends up giving him her heart. If she fails him, he will die, and his blood will be on her hands, staining her soul.
Now she needs to protect herself while trying to rescue the love of her life. When she forms an alliance with the Kan Asma refugees, she plays a dangerous game of double agent. She knows the risks, and she also knows time is running out. Mariyah will do anything to save A-Fourteen and set him free…even if it means sacrificing herself to give him a chance to live.
Once upon a time Romance author of PNR and contemporary romance. Still published with old school Regency romance. Huge dark romance reader. ARC reader in dark romance. Currently working on a dark romance version of the Kan Asma Vampires from my original novel series!
The Blood-Vine was published by Liquid Silver Publishing, Kissin' Cops was published by Liquid Silver Publishing, Kan Asma Vampires was published by Hartwood Publishing. Sophie’s Rogues currently published with Harper Collins. A Christmas Caroline previously with EC: Cotillion is out as an Indie both co-written with the incredibly talented Vivien Jackson.
Right away, Ms. Paige pulls you in with her gifts of description, story-telling, and scene-setting. You’ll get the important backstories necessary to the development of these characters and their story. (This was very important to me, as I was unfamiliar with the Kan Asma vampires before this book.) You’ll walk the dank halls of the Lifespan Institute’s basement, hear the mournful wails of the tortured vampires, and feel the oppression of the lecherous mad scientist. And you’ll fall for hot, swoon-worthy Ashe, and beautiful, sensitive Mariyah, and root for them from the start.
Perhaps my favorite thing about this novel, and what sets it apart from so many others, is – without getting too spoiler-y, I hope – Mariah is not your typical damsel in distress. While in grave danger herself, it is she who orchestrates Ashe’s rescue.
I have been a fan of Paranormal Romance, especially featuring vampires, for far longer than they’ve been popping up on bestseller lists, and have read a LOT of vampire romance. With the mega-successes of the genre in the mid-aughts to early teens, the market became entirely too over-saturated. Since then it’s been really hard for me to find a well-written vampire romance that I really, truly enjoy. Not only did this novel deliver, but I feel like the Kan Asma vampires could be my new Black Dagger Brotherhood!
If you've been missing vampire romance novels as they were pre-Twilight/The Vampire Diaries/Etc., then you should check Enduring Bond out.
Another home run from Christa Paige. I adored Mated in Treason and was thrilled to be transported to another country and into the lives of those Kan Asma people who were captured during the invasion on their quiet village in Abkhazia. This series is called the Allies of the Kan Asma which made me curious to find out who would help this vampire race. Christa has an incredible talent for character development. I could sense and feel the anguish and torment of Ashe and the fear and tender love of Mariyah. Even the head of the science lab was painted so clearly that I could see his meaty hands and csmell is obese order. Ms. Paige is also a phenomenal world builder. From the halls of the prison to Ashe's cell, I was transported into this new location. I fell in love with this Ashe and Mariyah and cheered for them throughout the story. I highly recommend this story to any reader. You'll become an instant fan of Christa Paige and her amazing characters.
I love Christa's work and thank my stars every day for finding her. Her world building is extraordinary. Every book has an HEA with an underlying story ARC. Her vampires are hot and awesome.
This book... This book has touched my heart. I love when I'm led to falling in love with a couple. And I did just that with Mariyah and Ashe.
This book takes the typical hero rescues heroine trope and flips it on its head. The heroine has to rescue the hero, with a little help. And it makes me love Mariyah even more!
I couldn't put this book down!! Mariyah's instant connection she felt for Ashe was strong. She tries to nurture and care for Ashe as best she could without jeopardizing her life along with Ashe and her nephews. This book gave me more insight into the workings of the underground medical part of their world. Ashe is by far my favorite so far. Well done yet again Christa!! I couldn't help myself at the end yelling "no I need more!". Highly recommend you read this book along with the others in the series!!
This story is about Ashe (a vampire) and Mariyah (a human). I like the way the relationship developed between Ashe and Mariyah. I found the history of the vampires and their powers very interesting to learn about. There were some parts of the story that I didn't think flowed very well and that kept me from giving it 5 stars. I would recommend this to someone looking for a good paranormal romance with a hint of suspense. I'm looking forward to reading the next book to see where the author takes this story.
If her last book was a piece of really good chocolate, this one is more like an incredible chocolate raspberry mousse cake! Something you'll want to take your time and savor, but you won't be able to stop until it's all gone! The world-building that has gone into the Kan Asma vampires is incredible and her characters are vibrant and relatable. You're going to want a Kan Asma male of your own!
The premise was interesting and different but the execution was confusing. The story itself was fine but the characters and unfolding events were inconsistent, incomplete and superficial. There was definitely some potential.
I’ve read many books from this genre before but never from this author and never one this unique. I was quickly absorbed into the story and couldn’t get enough of Ashe and Mariyah’s story. Definitely want to read more from this author!
I enjoyed this book so much more than the other books with Kan Asma vampires. The writing and story flowed, it was easy to get into the story. I definitely felt more of a connection with this one than the others. Great way to spend a few hours.
