4 - "Fleeing so soon..?" Stars!

The third book in Lauren Smiths’ Seduction series gives us Lord Vaughn Darlington and Perdita Darby’s story. The Rogue’s Seduction certainly seduced me, although it was more of a sprint-to-the-finish that a slow leisurely meander.

"I don’t care much for ruining innocents… but in your case I might make an exception…"

Vaughn, now also known as The Devil of London after his exploits in the previous book, is not the man you initially assume him to be, and I loved the way his and Perdy’s alliance grew from a mutually beneficial agreement to something more, over the time they spent with each other. This rogue was actually quite sweet, even if he does like a little pain mixed with his passion.

There was no going back from that kiss. She’d taken a bite of the forbidden apple, and the juices were sweet upon her lips.

As I said this was a quick read, so much so it actually ended @ 66%, and although I can understand the author is trying to encourage readers to discover her other works, I am not sure I would be happy to be paying full price for a book that is essentially novella length.

All-in-all an enjoyable read, for me Lauren’s writing style and themes she uses excel in the Historical world, and I get great enjoyment from reading each and every new addition to the ranks.

Series: Seduction #3
Publication Date: 3/5/18

A rollercoaster of a read filled with heart-stopping suspense and sweet sensuousness. This novella is so fully developed, well planned and well written that you feel as if you’ve read an entire novel. I love that the villain is really vile and that the author didn’t shy away from delivering the justice he deserved. I absolutely hate it when an author shies away from true punishment for the villain.

I loved the characters – all of them. Each of them was so likable and relatable. I really liked our heroine’s parents. They were in love with each other and they wanted that for their daughter. I loved it when the father tells our hero that if he breaks his daughter’s heart he’ll “bury him in the woods where nobody will ever find him”. I also loved Mr. Craig, the butler, and would love to see more of him in other books.

Perdita Darby is the darling of the ton. She’s sweet, proper, brave and very intelligent. In her view, being a wealthy heiress was a terrible burden. It put a mark on her. When the vile Samuel Milton tries blackmailing her into marrying him, she doesn’t cower. No, she develops a plan to thwart the villain and then she goes about carrying out that plan. She’s heard some very troubling things about Milton and she certainly doesn’t want him anywhere near her. Milton didn’t care about her money, he cared about breaking her spirit and maybe even killing her.

Vaughn, Viscount Darlington, is known as The Devil of London. He’s sinfully handsome and sensuous – all of the ladies love him. He’s also poor as a church mouse, but that isn’t his fault. He’d been ignored by his parents his whole life because they doted on his older brother. When that older brother died, his parents went into a tailspin and ran up debts that were impossible to repay after their deaths. Vaughn has had chances to marry heiresses but just can’t bring himself to do it. Can you imagine his shock when he receives a midnight visit from the darling of the ton – unchaperoned – and she has a proposal for him? Oh! My!

Vaughn knows that it will take more than a betrothal to thwart Milton, but Perdita doesn’t know it. Vaughn also knows he wants to marry her – he finds her bravery, intelligence, and beauty enchanting. Reading this book just makes me wish I had the ‘author gene’ – some of the things that were thought and said made my heart sail. “We are twin souls curled around one another, always straining for that next kiss, that next lingering caress stolen at the right moment.”

What a page-turner! It is interesting and exciting right through the last page – and then – you wish there was more because you don’t want it to end.

Lord Vaughn, Viscount Darlington was known as the Devil of London, a moniker he’d earned for his reputation at the gaming tables and his choice of bed play. The truth was he was a man steeped in debt after his parents’ deaths and desperation for funds had led him to scandalous acts for which he was ashamed.
When Perdita Darby shows up at his door with a business proposal, it seems his luck might be changing. It appeared Perdita was being blackmailed by the vile Lord Milburn, a man who cared nothing for her or even her money, but only wanted to control and break her. In exchange for posing as her fiancé, Perdita promised to encourage Lord Ashton to let Vaughn invest with him. Vaughn knew what kind of man Milburn was though. A man who wouldn’t let a betrothal stop him. What Perdita really needed was a true wedding. Ordinarily marriage was something Vaughn avoided but there was something about Perdita. She was a woman with secrets, passion, and a mind of her own. What’s more, she was a means to restore his family’s name in the ton. By marrying the ton’s darling, Miss Perdita Darby would be the answer to his prayers.
The Rogue’s Seduction is a fabulous addition to Lauren Smith’s Seduction series. The perfect blend of sweet, steamy, and a little danger. Fast paced with delicious, sexy banter, this one will keep you turning the pages.
Perdita was delightful. I loved how clever and bold she was. She didn’t just want to marry. She aspired to do more with her life. She wanted a man who would love her and support her scientific research. She tried to keep the arrangement business like but that was difficult when Vaughn’s mere presence did funny things to her. “Any decent woman wouldn’t be fascinated by such a notorious rogue. Maybe she wasn’t as decent as she ought to be.” It didn’t take long to realize that there was more to Vaughn than society gave him credit for. She sensed a pain and sorrow to him and she wanted to lessen those feelings. And “for a man who claimed he could not love, he could kiss like one who loved more than the most romantic of poets”.
I loved Vaughn from the moment he insisted he’d only meet with Perdita in his bedchamber. Yes, he was a rogue but he was a gentleman at heart. He immediately felt protective of Perdita. He’d never been in love before so he didn’t recognize the emotion. At first Perdita was a means to a business connection, but something about her cut into the thick wall around his heart. She was genuine, charming, and clever. There was depth to her, and Vaughn felt excitement just anticipating spending time with her. This whole charade started as a way to climb out of financial ruin but now none of that mattered.
I love romances where the hero and heroine try to fight their attraction. It’s such a delicious battle! Fans of Lauren Smith will be thrilled with this story. And if Ms. Smith is a new to you author, I can’t think of a better introduction.

A heart-stopping, emotional continuation to The Seduction Series, A Rogue's Seduction stands out as genuine treat for its ability to pull at a reader's heart strings one minute and launch their hearts into their throats the next. Both mystery and eroticism are used to great effect in building the story and truly growing the affection toward the main characters.
However, the true triumph in this story was the creation of a villain so vile, and then not backing down at the last moment when the rubber hit the road. So many authors shy away from creating truly evil characters, but this villain was perfectly irredeemable!

Lauren Smith has done it again. I have read nine of her Historical Romances and I can say this is my favorite so far. Vaughn, Lord Darlington is the absolutely perfect rogue for Perdita Darby. The book opens with Perdita arriving on the doorstep of the Devil of London's in his home to proposition him.
She is in trouble and will beg him to help her if she has too.

When Vaughn's butler tells him that a young lady is insisting on seeing him, it's the middle of the night and she is by herself. Curious he has his butler escort up to his bedroom. Surprised by her bravery he agrees to hear her out.

Even though Perdita has seen Lord Darlington at social functions she had forgotten how beautiful he is. There is a magnetism to him that draws her like a moth to a flame. She knows he is dangerous but she has no choice if she wants to save herself and her family. She tells Vaughn she is being pursued by a monster disguised as a Gentleman. His name is Samuel Milburn. He is truly evil and sadistic. He is blackmailing her into marriage, he claims he has evidence that her father has been smuggling. She doesn't know why he has chosen her to torment. He wants to keep her prisoner in his home, where he would torture, rape and abuse her until she dies. The power will be all in his favor. He gets his sexual satisfaction by causing unbearable pain. There is a rumour that he threw his last mistress out a window. The facade that he shows the public is that of an amiable Gentleman and is invited everywhere.

Vaughn has heard the whispered rumours of Samuel Milburn's sexual perversions and would never let an innocent anywhere near Milburn. He agrees to help her by pretending that they are engaged to be married. Perdita hopes that this will be enough to dissuade Milburn. Perdita tells her parents that she has found a husband and asks for him to be invited to their annual Christmas party.

Vaughn is a man alone in the world, he has friends but no family. His beloved older brother died and soon after his parents. He tells Perdita that he doesn't know if he could ever be in love with a woman. His father bankrupted his estate and Vaughn has been trying for years to turn his estates around but he can't seem to find a wealthy heiress willing to marry him. When Perdita makes her proposal he is surprised how much he wants her, he has never had tender feelings for any woman before. As they spend Christmas together they cannot keep their hands off of each other. Perdita has always wanted to marry for love like her parents and now she realizes that she loves Vaughn, but can he love her. He has been honest with her from the beginning, she knows there is love in him and she is determined to make him see that he can love a woman, her.

Lauren writes a wonderful story of how love can be found in a person you never could have imagined in a million years. If I was reading a paperback the edges of the paper would be singed by the very hot erotic sensual scenes. Perdita is feisty, brave and loyal. Vaughn is a man who knows what he wants, he is courteous, thoughtful and all male with a heart of gold. The villain in this book is truly evil, but will he get what he deserves? You have to read this book!! Lauren is an author of the highest caliber with a gift for writing romance.

London's favourite lady Perdita Darby seeks the help and protection of London's most wicked devil Vaughn Lord Darlington to escape a marriage to a cruel horrid man Samuel Milburn. I love the author’s books & her books are a must read for me, I absolutely loved this book from page one & just couldn’t put it down. The characterisation, as always, is very strong. Vaughn is sigh worthy, toe curlingly lovely, Perdy is a strong woman who has her own secrets. I loved that characters from other series (League of Rogues & Brothers of Ash & Fire) were included as it all adds to my enjoyment. I read this as part of the Hot Winter Nights collection & for me this was the jewel in a very good collection

The Rogues Seduction, by Lauren Smith
Wow! What a dominant, steamy romance book this is to read. Perdita and Vaughn brought all the passionate excitement to their romance. Lauren Smith, shared their love affair with the hallmarks of lovers on a world wind affair. The writing was smooth and a delight to read.
Lauren gave simple and well explained details to the scenes. In doing so, she helps the reader visualize the scenes that plays out in their imagination, therefore, getting them lost and drawn into the story. Perdita’s character is a smart woman, who felt that she had to do something to save her family and her father’s reputation. With no one else to turn to, She reaches out to Lord Vaughn. The devilish, handsome, dominant Rogue.
The things that he was doing with Perdita had me asking, now why can’t I find a man like that?! We all know who the controller is in this book, and he didn’t have a problem of showing it to Perdita. The things and the commands Vaughn was giving in the bedroom had me saying yes out loud. To the point, I almost forgot that I’m not the only person in my room. The storyline really focuses on the couple finding out that they truly love each other.
It took a fake engagement and a shootout at a wedding, to help them realize this. When Perdita gave Vaughn back his fathers watch, I wanted to cry. That was the most beautiful moment in this book. There are others, but that moment was precious. I recommend this book, with two twist and a snap.
Until next time my fellow readers... read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

Lord Vaughn, Viscount Darlington is a rogue with quite the reputation, but he’s willing to help a damsel in distress. Perdita Darby is the darling of London society and she has desire to marry. She’s discovered the cruel man, Samuel Milton wishes to marry by blackmailing her to agreeing to marriage.
Perdita’s desperate enough to seek out the notorious Lord Vaughn aka “the Devil of London” for his help in leading people to think that they are engaged and she’ll be safe from her cruel persistent suitor. Vaughn can’t resist the pleas of a woman who needs his help. He’s intrigued by her tenacity and her courage to approach someone of his reputation would be enough to put off her unwanted suiter. Vaughn can’t resist the pleas of a beautiful woman who needs his help, but he has his own agenda. He knows a man like Milton will not give up easily and he knows must offer the ultimate protection of his name. Loved this story filled with intrigue, romance and redeeming a rogue who can’t resist the pleas of a beautiful woman who needs his help as they both find their HEA!!!
This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

3.75 out of 5

For what it was, this was super cute. I was pleasantly surprised that even with the insta-love I found myself rooting for them. It’s quite short and feels more like a novella, but I appreciated that it didn’t have any silly miscommunication just to lengthened the drama. It was quick and straight to the point! This would have easily been a solid 4 stars, if one scene in particular wasn’t so silly when it was meant to be serious. It made me burst out loud laughing! Some might find the story superficial or lack-luster, but if you are looking for just some fun, light romance read, this is for you!

This series is a lot of fun, in a vintage throwback way. This is the third, and I've been reading through them all recently--it reminds me of the stuff I enjoyed best as a teenager into early adulthood, which makes it feel fun and nostalgic to read. This one really had me wishing it was longer, I would have enjoyed seeing more of Perdita and Vaughn each on their own and together. Still though, this is absolutely a series that I'm reading to lift me out of a funk and it's helping.

Also, what was with the random pictures mid-chapter?

I really enjoy Lauren Smith's historical stories and The Rogue's Seduction was no exception.
Faced with a marriage to a cruel man, who has a hold over her father, Perdita Darby is in a desperate situation. She turns to a man known as the Devil of London in the hopes that if people think that they are engaged, she will be safe.
I am going to make a little criticism of the storyline here, I'm not entirely convinced that someone like Perdita would be so willing to put their reputation and good name on the line like this. But I can let that go, it works with the storyline and gives our hero and heroine time together and the chance to ultimately fall in love with one another.
I liked Vaughn, he might be known as the devil of London, but he clearly has a heart of gold and very quickly falls for Perdita. He wants to be with her not to save her, or to restore his own fortunes, but because he genuinely likes her.
I enjoyed this story and liked the development of the romance between Vaughn and Perdita.

The Rogue's Seduction by Lauren Smith is an outstanding historical romance. Ms. Smith has given us a book that is well-written and loaded with phenomenal characters. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Perdita is forced to ask Vaughn for help to help her avoid marriage to a cruel suitor. Their story is full of drama, humor and smoking hot sexy bits. This story had me under its spell from page 1 to the end. I enjoyed reading The Rogue's Seduction and look forward to my next book by Lauren Smith. The Rogue's Seduction is book 3 of the Seduction Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Perdita Darby was desperate. How desperate you ask? Enough to go to a known Rouge’s house, Lord Vaughn Darlington, and ask him to pretend to be her betrothed!! Pursed by a dangerous man, Samuel Milburn, who was trying to blackmail her, she needs protection and feels Vaughn could provide that for her. Being down on his luck and still grieving from the death of his brother, Vaughn begins to feel something come to life with Perdita's request. Her family was hosting a Christmas party and she planned for her father to announce their engagement so Milton would hopefully leave her alone!! The party proves interesting as secrets come out and the intrigue begins! Lauren Smith always delivers an engaging story that leaves the reader wanting more. I so enjoyed this story and fell in love with the characters!! You will too.

Received this ARC in exchange for a fair review. The Rogue's Seduction is the third book in the Seduction trilogy and the author seems to have saved the best for last as this one was by far my favorite. A sweet and sexy naughty little romp with a pair of endearing protagonists made for a fun read.

The Rogue’s Seduction, Book 3 of the Seduction series, was about Lord Vaughn Darlington, Viscount Darlington, "the Devil of London", and Perdita "Perdy" Darby, the daughter of Mr. Reginald Darby and "the beloved lady of the ton".
With Mr. Samuel Milburn trying to blackmail Perdita into a marriage he had already informed her would be a terribly painful venture, Perdita desperately sought out Lord Darlington for his help. Hoping he would agree to a fake engagement in order to dissuade Mr. Milburn's suit, she went to Vaughn's home late one night with her proposition. When he guessed that Mr. Milburn held something over her that terrified her, she was forced to divulge what it was. When Darlington told her what he would want in exchange for going along with her plan, she agreed to do what she could to see that his requests were fulfilled.
Vaughn knew that no matter what Perdita planned to do in hopes of keeping Mr. Milburn away from her would only draw the man's attention that much more, for once he set his mind to something, he would not stop until he got it...and Milburn wanted Perdita. Knowing, and finding distasteful, the things harm Milburn causes to women, Vaugn had no problem going along with Perdita's request. However, he needed more than just a fake engagement to help her achieve her goal.
This was a very good novella. The storyline was a bit different than most, but not so different that it didn't line up with the era it portrayed. The twists and turns were a bit unexpected but there was a portion of it that was never fully explained. I'll let you read it and decide if I'm right or wrong though. The passion was hot from the first moment the two main characters met and didn't let up until the very end. There was angst, drama, humor, intrigue, fear, anger...a whole gamut of emotions that kept the reader on their toes.
The characters were well-rounded and developed. It was a nice change from reading how most debutantes faint, squeal and are often dim-witted. The maturity of these characters was a nice change of pace. While it was a good novella, it just didn't earn a five-star rating, mainly because it left so many unanswered questions.

But the cost of their false engagement may put them both in danger…

My Thoughts:

I love Lauren Smith books, especially her historical romance and dragon shifter titles. I try not to miss a single one of these two genre by this author.

Perdita Darby wants no part of marriage to the cruel man who wants to trap her into marriage. With nowhere to turn she seeks the aid of Lord Vaughn, Viscount Darlington known for his roguish ways.

Vaughn is in desperate straits and needs the money Perdita is willing to offer for his help. But will this fake engagement lead to an everlasting love between this unlikely pair?

I gave this book 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. The intimacy is sensual but mildly written in this book.

I originally read this title as part of the Hot Winter Nights anthology previously available on Amazon. I re-read it when offered a complimentary digital ARC of it as a standalone title. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

On a cold winter night, Perdita Darby hired a coach and went to see the only man who could help her: Vaughn, Viscount Darlington, the Devil of London! Perdita is being blackmailed and will do just about anything to get out of a marriage proposal from the revolting Samuel Melburn. Vaughn and Perdita come to an agreement that will be beneficial to both of them, what they hadn’t counted on was how it all turned out…

Vaughn is a seductive rogue, a scoundrel, and a bit of a snob who deserves his nickname up to a point; what a character he is, charismatic and rather irresistible. Perdita is no slouch either and they make quite an intriguing couple, and a surprisingly well-matched one; appearances can be deceptive indeed. The secondary characters are quite interesting and Perdita’s parents surprised me! THE ROGUE’S SEDUCTION is beautifully written, there are lovely Christmas details, and the dialogues are excellent. I could have done without the “threat” of BDSM that was always looming in the background; I felt the story didn’t need that and would have been even better, in my opinion, without it. Still, it was excellent!

I read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A SOLID 3.5 STARS!

THIS WAS SHORT NOVELLA SATURATED WITH SWEETNESS, AND A CUTE CHRISTMAS STORY.

HERO was one we've met in the previous story and deemed to be the 'villain' because he was desperate for money. His parents' death has left him with a large debt that turns him destitute and after falling from grace and losing his best friend, he didn't expect Perdita to show up on his doorstep at twilight and proposes he becomes her fake fiance. Of course, this is a historical spin on similar modern troupes resembling this one. Nothing most romance readers have never encountered before. I liked Vaughn, for all his ways, he was extremely sweet and resembled a lost, lonely boy who needed love. When his fake charade with Perdita turns real for him, he knows that she's the only woman he wants to marry and won't regret it.

HEROINE was sweet and cute, the perfect foil for the misunderstood Vaughn. While frighten, she's also brave to enter the Devil's den and asks for his services. Spooked by the man her mother wanted her to marry, a sadistic man, she turns to Vaughn for help and eventually falls for his gentle seduction and warm heart.

OVERALL it was an enjoyable love story. No complications, and no drama. Though it wasn't the best from this author.

The ton called him the Devil of London, but Perdita Darby saw him as her only hope to avoid marriage to a cruel brute of a man who threatened to imprison and break her. So she convinces Viscount Darling to act as her fiancé in order to deter this vile man from pursuing her.

Lauren Smith has an absolute winner with this story! Vaughn and Perdita are two of my favorites! He is definitely devilishly wicked and sexy, but beneath the rogue he is a real gentleman, protective and caring, who dares to risk his heart. And beyond her beauty, she is a strong, courageous woman, who is smart and good, and determined to control her own future. Their temporary engagement will become so much more. The awesome writing is this author's usual, providing lots of passion, love, drama and danger. I couldn't get enough of this hero and heroine, and never wanted it to end.

I received an ARC of this book, though I've previously pre-ordered the kindle format and will definitely re-read. I'm also building a small paperback library, and with this gorgeous cover, "The Rogue's Seduction" would make a great addition.

Might Just Be My Favorite In The Series

I have purchased and read (not necessarily in order) all the books in The Seduction Series and this book might just be my favorite.

I like the characters. The hero is perfectly imperfect. He is tall and godly handsome. He has a nasty reputation and he is impoverished due to his father’s debt. The heroine is the darling of the ton. She is intelligent and mature and level-headed. The hero and heroine got into a “fake engagement”. Although the hero fully intended to marry the heroine since he admires her inner qualities. I like that the hero never demanded money for the arrangement even though he needs it and the heroine offered to pay. He, instead, just asked for a way to invest with the heroine’s friend. It shows his honesty and integrity. I love the connection between the hero and heroine. More than just physical they were able to connect on so many levels. There was no great misunderstanding. There was a great villain though. The story was just classic yet written in a way that left me feeling good about it. Definitely something I would want to keep to reread in the future.

This is a great set of books, the author has everything one asks for in Regency romance. Sexy, wicked guys, who actually
are gentleman with big hearts hidden under what the pain the ton has set for all of them. Women who have been mislead and not listened to my family even when they know evil is near.
All of these books, are of strong men, and women who have all suffered in one way or other and how they over come
it to find a happy ending.. Please do give them a try, I have read a lot of Lauren Smith's books now and they just keep
getting better and better. Please read them in order as each book has character's from the other books.
Enjoy I just know your going to love them as much as I do. I can't wait for the next one...

. . .
É uma leitura F(. . .), desculpe pela palavra, eu amei 🖤. . .
. . Boa Leitura 😘
