Katerina Diamond is one of my favourite authors and I was delighted to receive an advanced copy of her latest book The Promise. I have read all her previous books and loved them and this book was excellent. I was hooked from the first page to the last.
I read this book in one day because I could not put it down. The characters are wonderful and we get to know the personalities of the detectives throughout this series. I can't wait for her next book. I would like to thank NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

4☆ A Gripping Dark Page Turner

The Promise is the forth book in the series, but my first book I have had the pleasure of reading. Even though this book is part of a series I do believe it can be read as a standalone. Although you do miss out on the characters build up.

This is the first time meeting Detectives Imogen Grey & Adrian Miles, I really liked their chemistry and how focussed and determined they were to catch the latest serial killer. Even going as far as luring them into a Catfish style trap!

They are hunting down a psychopath who lures women via the internet for dates, then beds them and murders them.
Gave me chills as it's all a lil too real! You just never know who your talking too online!

The story also focuses on Conor. Conor is a young teen who has moved to the UK for a fresh start. Conor doesn't have life easy and he really struggles to fit in.

Each of the stories connect but how & why you will just have to discover for yourself.

The Promise has a eerie cover that is so striking it draws you in!
It's a compelling and addictive read, I loved the characters they we're well written and engaging.
It's a pacy crime thriller that will have you turning the pages.

Thank you to Avon Books for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

My Review is also on my Blog Website :-

“Tonight was the night…”

Exeter is not as peaceful and safe as it seems. A murderer is in town!
Someone, who hunts women, rapes and strangles them in their homes. All these women have just one thing in common. Would the detectives Adrian Miles and Imogen Grey be able to find the connection and stop this psychopath?
This was my first book from Katerina Diamond and I loved it! The story drew me in from the start and didn’t let go till the end. It was well-written and the characters were well-defined. There was no occasion to be bored or roll the eyes.
Besides, the book deserves a few more stars for its refreshing and rather creepy cover!

Thanks to the author, Avon Books UK and the NetGalley for providing me with a copy.

I could read Katerina Diamond’s Imogen Grey series all day and would not be bored, these books just get better and better.

There is a murderer targeting vulnerable, lonely women online, he meets them and kills them by strangling them.

Connor and his father Jacob have moved to Exeter to their family home from America. Connor was involved in something bad which is later revealed. They are hoping for a new start but Jacob has his own secrets to keep hidden.

A secret woman is telling her story of how she meets an abusive man, manages to get away from him but sadly he still has control over her which leads to a disastrous outcome.

The 2 story’s are linked but to find out how you will have to read this book. For me when the link was revealed it was an OMG moment!!

A must read book that is deliciously dark, disturbing and totally addictive.

Love the main characters Mills and Grey they work so well together and their relationship is going from strength to strength.

I know they say “Leave the audience wanting more” but please please don’t leave me waiting too long before the next book in this amazing series.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

The promise by Katerina Diamond is the 4th book in the Miles and Grey series.
This wasn't my favourite one I felt something was missing and I'm not really sure what it is.
This book is told by 3 different people a dead mother/wife and teenage boy and Miles and Grey the police, I felt I never read much policing in this one,it all came together in the end but I knew who was doing the murders quite soon into the book which never happens. It took until the last 5 chapters for it to really pick up.
There are still a lot of questions not answered which I assume might in book 5 .
I will still carry on with this series because one not so good don't mean the new ones won't be as great as well he first 3 .

Having enjoyed the other books in the series I was eager to get started on this one and like the others I enjoyed it a lot.

Fast paced and lots of story lines woven together, I really like the way the two detectives are developing together as the books go along.

The only negative I have is that I wish it was a tiny bit longer as I'd like to know what happened to Connor and his dad but hopefully that's addressed in Book 5.

Four stars.

Well impressed with this book

Got to the stage where I was enthralled enough to have my own theories with regards to the plot and couldn’t put the book down cause I wanted to find out whether they coincided with the actual plot.

The format of the book and the storyline was superb. There was the perfect balance of descriptive narrative and natural flow of the plot. I particularly enjoyed how Katrina Diamond combined sub-stories that didn’t seem completely relevant making you as the reader try and second guess what the connections were going to be and delivering surprising twists essential to the overall story.

The development of the characters throughout the story was not contrived or lacking and wonderful detail created 3-dimensional characters that felt real and accessible.

If I had any issues, although this is probably more a personal opinion, I did not really get the fierce abuse dished out from the father to the son particularly when you learn who the father was. It seemed to be in stark contrast to the portrayal of his character throughout the book.

This is my first book from Katrina Diamond. I did not realise it was part of a series however, it stands alone as an individual story. I am now excited about reading the prequels and cannot wait to read her next novel.

Before Reading:

But look at that cover!!! 😍
-----------------------------------
After Reading:

I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. It does not impact my review.

Last year I read and fell in love with the DS Imogen Grey series and The Promise was one of my most anticipated books of 2018. I’m so happy to report that it completely lived up to my expectations.

I just love Diamond’s writing style. The mysteries are always so well done and also really character driven. Even though the book was kind of long, I just flew right through it. I never wanted to put it down. I will say that this is the first of her books that I figured things out well before they were revealed, but I was so invested in all the characters that I didn’t mind not being surprised like I have been before.

While the story is told through several different viewpoints, we get quite a lot of Connor’s POV. I think we actually hear more from him than from Imogen or Adrian and while I expected that to upset me, it didn’t. As I mentioned earlier, I was heavily invested in the characters and that included Connor. I felt so bad for all that he went through and just wanted to see him catch a break. Though he plays an integral role in the mystery and the lead up to the resolution, I thought his own ending was left a little more open than I like. Though I don’t anticipate it happening, I really wouldn’t mind seeing more of him in future books.

There were a few developments in Imogen and Adrian’s personal relationships and their partnership, as well. Adrian is still grieving from the events of the previous book. Imogen struggles with making the decision between keeping her relationship with Dean or moving along in her career. In addition, their own relationship begins to change and neither of them are sure about what’s happening. I don’t want to get too spoilery, but I am very, very anxious to see how things develop in the next book.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Promise. I’m afraid this little review doesn’t come close to expressing how much. I loved the writing, the mystery, and the characters. While this book still had plenty of dark content, it wasn’t as dark as some of the other books in this series and I liked that. Katerina Diamond has really become one of my favorite authors and I definitely recommend her to mystery and crime fans. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Overall Rating (out of 5): 4 Stars

This is another series that I am a big fan of... so happy to have Imogen and Adrian back again. This is book 4 in a fantastic series and I urge you all to get on board if you haven't already. It has real characters that are not perfect, great, edgy stories and twists that shock you. What's not to love ?

We have 3 storylines going in this book but it is very easy to follow. You will have a lightbulb moment like I did when you see where it is al going. Teenager Connor has moved from the US to the UK after being involved in a school shooting. He wants to make a fresh start but the kids at his new school have other ideas. We also follow Imogen and Adrian as they hunt a serial killer who murderes his victims after dating them, in between all of this we have diary entries from an unknown woman. You will need to keep reading this to find out what happens.

Katherine Diamond has written a very dark and clever book here, and I am now waiting patiently for book number 5. Big thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

Another terrific read in the DS Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles series! Lovely Exeter is the setting again and this time there are a series of staged murders of women in their 30’s. Into the mix there is story of Connor, his violent father Jacob and his uncle Joel. Connor is very troubled not least as he suffers literally at the hand of his father but he has a lot of other baggage. Although Connor is responsible for some shocking things you feel sadness for him and I think he tries in his own way to act honourably. There’s another perspective in the storytelling of an unknown woman’s account of life with ‘Rocket’ and JD. The novel unfolds well and as you would expect from Katerina Diamond it’s dark and twisty and impossible to put down.

As you go through a series you get to know the characters and in this one Adrian is struggling following the death of his girlfriend Lucy (book 3). Dean and Imogen sort their complicated relationship out too. Oh boy, is Imogen the most unlucky cop ever as yet again she finds herself in peril. The ending is a real cliffhanger so it’ll be onto book 5 as soon as because I can’t bear the suspense!!!

If you've been following Katerina Diamond's Grey and Miles series you certainly won't be disappointed in The Promise, fourth in the series. If you haven't read any of the earlier books in the series it's best to start with The Teacher, but The Promise works well as a complete story in itself.

In the opening chapters a young woman, Erica Lawson, is found strangled, sexually assaulted and bleached clean; then it happens again to another woman. When a third body is discovered, Grey and Miles know they've got a serial killer on their hands.

The book is written in three interweaving parts:
– A back story, almost in diary form, of a young woman first meeting her boyfriend who becomes very abusive. This part of the story, at first, doesn't seem to have much relevance to the main story but later on, it is the key main part.
– The return from America of Connor and his abusive father. This kid is such a mixed up, angry and impassioned character. Diamond writes so competently about the mental complexities of teenage children.
– Present day in the busy run up to Christmas, with Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles desperately trying to stop further murders which they know will take place if they don't catch this serial killer. These two have come a long way since The Teacher in their own individual relationships as well as their working partnership.

There's never a dull moment, hardly a chapter end you want to stop at even to go to bed. Katerina Diamond has fast become my favourite crime writer and I just know I will love every book she writes.

The Promise is my first book of Katarina Diamond's and I enjoyed it a lot. An easy read, it tells the story of Conor, a 16 year old starting a new life with his dad in the UK following a major life changing incident in the States. Conor's mother left him and his dad 15 years earlier when Conor was just a baby. Conor has a hard time adjusting to life and school in the UK and his dad's erratic and violent behaviour doesn't help. Thankfully his uncle Joel is around to help Conor and his dad.

In a dual timeline, women are meeting a mysterious man from the internet and turning up dead shortly after. Detectives Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles are working the case.

In a throwback to a past, we meet Victoria who is committing to paper her life story. Who is Victoria and where does she fit into any of the above?

I thoroughly enjoyed The Promise and found it an easy read. I loved the chemistry between Adrian and Imogen and I thought the storyline was compulsive and addictive reading. I did guess the perpetrator towards the end but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. I would definitely like to read more by Katarina Diamond.

Thank you to Netgalley, Ms Diamond and the publisher for the opportunity to read The Promise in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Promise is the fourth book in the Imogen Grey series by Katerina Diamond.

The story is one which many people will recognise - women being murdered by someone they have met through a dating app. The only problem is for DS Imogen Grey and her partner DS Adrian Miles is that descriptions of the potential suspect differ greatly and there is no discernible link between the victims and the men they may have been dating. The killer is clever, ensuring that any electronic trails are eliminated and leaving no trace of themselves at the scene. So just how will the pair catch this cruel murderer before he, or she, can strike again.

This is really a triple narrative story, part focusing on DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles as they investigate the murder and navigate their own complicated personal and work relationships. It also focuses on a teenage boy, Connor, who has just moved to Exeter with his father. Connor is a curiosity in his new school - American, good looking, easily fitting in with the 'in-crowd', but he is clearly harbouring a dark secret, one which is slowly revealed through the course of the story. Connor should be at ease with the popular kids but he is more fascinated by his next door neighbour, a young girl called Selina, who Connor recognises as a kindred spirit. It is initially hard to see where Connor's story fits in with the main murder investigation but as you read on things become a lot clearer.

As previously mentioned this was a triple narrative story, and it is, with the third segment being told through a series of flashbacks. I don't want to say too much about this part of the book, but I will say that it is very dark and quite harrowing to read, full of manipulation and abuse and very skilfully helps to build an element of back story which will lead the reader to draw all manner of conclusions along the way about what is really happening. It creates a kind of misdirection, pointing the finger of suspicion to many potential perpetrators as you read, whilst cleverly disguising the truth of what is happening.

Fast paced, full of heart-stopping tension intertwined with more poignant and tender moments, this book is highly recommended. If you haven't read any of this series yet you are missing a trick. Get and fix that now. If you are already a fan then rest assured, this is another brilliant read.

"I wish someone had told me, had made me look at what I was getting into, but no one said anything. There was nothing to say, I suppose; for all intents and purposes, he was lovely. I couldn't fault him - there was nothing to fault. He was generous and kind and he was always good to me. Until he wasn't."

Another amazing book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting to read just one more chapter.
I love the fact that there was a second story being told throughout the main story that for a while seems unrelated and out of place, until it all starts to connect towards the end. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

This is the fourth book in the Grey & Miles series of detective novels. There is a killer on the loose - he finds his victims on the internet and strangles them. The Police must track him down before he kills again. The book also follows the story of Connor, who is a troubled teen with a dark past and an abusive father.

The story was reasonably good; there were a few character threads that came together in the end. However, I did feel like I was missing out on a lot of relevant back story because I hadn't read the previous three novels. I really did fee like this put me at a disadvantage and that I was missing out on a lot of enjoyment in the book for that reason. I think this is why I enjoyed following Connor's story more than that of the detectives, because he was a new character and I hadn't missed any of his storyline.

The writing was good, there was quite a lot of character driven plot and the story was well put together. Having said that, this was quite a mediocre detective story in my view. It was quite slow paced, which I see as a bit of a negative given the nature of the story and that there was not much detail. In comparative terms, it wasn't really that original or memorable, and for a book of that genre it was okay as a throwaway read.

I was also greatly disappointed with the ending. It was quite abrupt and there were a lot of things left unresolved, which were the things I wanted to know about most of all annoyingly!

All in all I didn't dislike it but I feel like I won't remember it. I enjoyed it okay whilst reading, but I didn't love it. I probably would go back to read the previous books in the series, just to see what I missed out on and I think maybe they would be better than this one!

These books just get better and better! I love how the different parts in the book come together to make a story.

The one thing that has left me wondering though - was the mother and daughter a suicide or murder ?? I'm not sure it'll be spoken about again in the next book, but it really left on a cliffhanger with that!

I was shocked but absolutely love the progression between Adrian and Imogen - though I love Imogen and Dean still! I'm not sure if Adrian and Imogen together would be right, because of how beautiful their friendship is... but I still think it would be amazing.

I'm so glad I decided to read these in order, it makes the stories more real, they make more sense. I just love these books so much and I'm ready for the next!

The Promise by Katerina Diamond is a thriller, and apparently the 4th in the Imogen Grey Series.

Okay, first, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Avon Books UK, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis:
There is a lot going on in this book.

Connor and his dad move from the US to England for a fresh start, to leave behind the stigma and after-effects of a school shooting. Connor wants to lay low, and not get into the wrong crowd again, and he needs to keep his father on an even keel. But he feels frustrated. He seems to be sliding back in with the same type of people even though he doesn’t want to, and his father’s abuse isn’t getting any better either. Why does his father hate him so much? Maybe his Uncle Joel can help, or maybe it’s time to stand up for himself, start atoning for past behaviour and moving on his own course.

Selina is not one of the “in” crowd at school. She lives with her Mom and step-father, in the house beside Connor. The walls are thin, and she can hear the fights between Connor and his dad. But Selina has her own problems. Her step-father won’t leave her alone.

Meanwhile, there is a killer out there whose first date includes strangling his victim. DS Adrian Miles and his partner Imogen Grey are determined to find him. The victim was on a game website, and may have attracted the wrong man, so it is decided that Imogen should go undercover to flush him out. But both Adrian and Imogen are having personal issues, and their heads may not be in the game. Adrian is still grieving the loss of his girlfriend, while having his ex-wife and son move in with him on a “temporary” basis. It’s a lot to handle. Imogen is dealing with the aftermath of being in a relationship that may end her career. But the killer isn’t waiting for them to straighten out their lives.

Meanwhile, in the background, we are learning the story of a young woman who doesn’t seem to have any backbone, and finds herself in an abusive relationship which she isn’t sure she can get out of.

My Opinions:
Okay, this one took me a little while to get into, and I’m not sure why. The plot was good, the writing fine, but still I had issues. Until I didn’t. Early on, it was fairly obvious who the spineless woman was, but she just angered me. I am so sick of reading about women who don’t stand up for themselves.

Anyway, the book was about abusive relationships, and the author certainly didn’t shy away from descriptions. I’m not squeamish, and I felt that those parts were handled very well. The story was told from multiple perspectives, and everything read smoothly.

Until I went to do the review on Goodreads, I was not aware that this was part of a series, and although I’m a little annoyed at NetGalley for not making that obvious, I am also pleased to find a new author. Probably my own fault, because I usually investigate the author before downloading something new. This is the first book I've read by Katerina Diamond.

As far as I am concerned, this could be a stand-alone book. I don’t feel I missed anything. That doesn’t mean I won’t be looking up the first three books in this series…..I hate reading things out of order, and I probably won’t add this to my own blog until I’ve read the first three. Okay, that’s a little anal, but that’s me.

Anyway, it’s a good book!

This is a great book.
I’ve read the others in the series but you could read this as a stand-alone.
Imogen and Adrian are called to a murder where it looks like a date has gone badly wrong. They soon realise someone is targeting single women and the race is on to catch them.
Alongside this story are two others which really intrigued me as I was desparate to know if they all tied in together - you’ll have to read it to find out...
Imogen sets up a false profile to try and find the killer and whilst she feels uncomfortable doing this, her team are there for her when she makes the calls.
This is a really nasty killer and one which you just want them to find, but he’s quite a sneaky character so this is harder than the team realise.
There is a real nail biting final few chapters and more than one life is at risk.
This is a great series, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
Thanks to Avon and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I really enjoyed this one, it had me gripped and I read the book in just over a day – I love this author’s books and I think that this is her best one to date!

I loved the characters in the story and how we got to see more about their different backgrounds, especially Connor’s and what it was that brought him and his father back to the UK from the States.

I enjoyed how the story was told from different view points from main characters and I was guessing how they would all come together. I thought that it was very well written and flowed brilliantly. I loved the suspense the author managed to create as the book progressed and I really enjoyed how all the loose ends were brought together at the end – it was very well done!

Five stars from me for this one – a gripping story, that I thoroughly enjoyed!! Looking forward to see what she releases next – I can’t wait!!

Another great instalment in this series!

Even though I'm not reading these books in order (I don't think you need to) I'm really enjoying this series.

This book was really well written. I enjoy the short chapters and multiple perspectives, it makes for a quick and entertaining read.

The plot was very dark, as always with plenty of twists and turns. I can never tell where the plot of these books is going. I love that it keeps you guessing till the very end.

The characters are really interesting too. I enjoy reading about the turbulent relationship between Grey and Miles.

I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick, dark and gripping crime Thriller to read.

I really enjoyed this book and it reignited my love for this series. It pains me to say that wasn't a fan of the previous book (The Angel) and although The Secret was great, it never matched up to The Teacher for me but The Promise definitely did! I loved Connor's story and despite the fact that I'd figured out who the perpetrator was before the halfway point (which I rarely do) I was still gripped until the end. Also, Adrian is a doll and I've always liked his character and he became more endearing in this book.

As per usual I will pick up a copy as soon as it's released. I'm thrilled to have received this advanced copy from Netgalley.

Wow! What a brilliant addition to one of my favourite police procedural series! I’ve loved Grey and Miles since The Teacher and every book makes me worship them even more! If you’re looking for a dark, disturbing and sometimes rather gory series to follow then Katerina Diamond will deliver time and time again for you!

This time our DS duo have to deal with a terrifying serial killer who meets his potential victims via a dating app. And he very cleverly grooms the women he meets online so that they are the ones who make all the moves. I have to admit to being scared witless by the ease in which the suspect ingratiated himself to the women he met online especially as so many women now choose online apps as their preferred way to meet someone new. So the plot felt a chillingly accurate portrayal of the modern day dating game! But this game had deadly consequences for those chosen to play. And when Imogen herself seems to fit the profile of the women targeted, she finds herself in grave danger.

It took no time at all to become involved once again in the personal and professional lives of DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles. Having followed them from the start, it was like revisiting old friends and catching up on their personal dramas since the shocking events of The Angel. The storyline here was completely involving from the very first page with its topical themes and strong characters. I especially enjoyed the chapters that revolved around Connor, a young man recently returned to the UK with his father. Connor was a complex character with hidden secrets and I was desperate to work out if and how he was connected to the murders that were occurring. And I have to say that there were a more than a few surprises in store for me along the way that I really hadn’t been expecting!!

This is probably my favourite of the series so far. A deviously dark and deliciously disturbing crime thriller that was a pleasure to dive into and definitely left me wanting more! Probably best read with the lights on!

Highly recommended by me!

I am a huge fan of Katerina Diamonds Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles detective books.

I have read all four books in the series and grown to really like the characters of Miley and Grey.

Starting this book felt like returning to old friends again. We see Imogen missing her partner Dean and Miley going through deep grief over the traumatic death of his girlfriend. The two detectives are as close as ever or maybe even a bit closer than usual!

We also meet Connor and Selina, a couple of teenagers who live next door to each other. I got really invested in the character of Connor, he intrigued me. I could see he had the capacity to do wrong but his home life devastated me and I just wanted better for him and for Selina, who faces her own set of problems. Can they find a way out of their predicaments or will it all end nastily?

Then to add to all this there is a killer on the loose. Someone is luring women on dates and then strangling them. It's all happening!

This a fast paced crime novel with plenty of action to keep the reader involved. Highly recommended for readers of crime.

Quote

" That was what struck Adrian the most about death, how it largely went unnoticed, how millions of people died every day and yet the world kept turning. Even grieving was frowned upon after a while, you just had to get back on that wheel."

I read the three books in the series a few months ago. I was previously hooked by each one and keen to read The Promise as soon as possible (even though I. have pre-ordered it in paperback). The Promise works well as a stand alone, as do The Teacher, The Secret, and The Angel. Katerina Diamond reitterates enough from previous books to remind readers, or orientate a new reader. So, having read the others I had high expectations. I was not disappointed, not at all. In fact I woud say that The Promise is Katerina Diamond's best so far. The complexity of three stories gradually unravelling was expertly written. Each shift was easy to follow and executed perfectly. The over all plot is A1 with twists and revelations that held my attention throughout the two sittings I took to read. My only thought now is that I will need to wait for Katerina Diamond's next book.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

Although this book is part of a series I read it as a stand alone. The plot and the characters are so well developed that I really didn't feel as if I had missed out on the back story to the two detectives. There is a lot happening in this book, a shooting in a US school, abusive relationships including physical and sexual abuse. troubled teens and a serial killer on the loose.

This book packs a wallop and gallops along quickly and convincingly. There are characters that tugged at my heartstrings and some I wanted to punch in the face. I enjoyed this author's writing style and will read more by her.

Really well written. Very easy to plough through even though its a big book. Very cleverly thought out although i think it was easy to guess the ending there was no suprise but it didnt ruin it at all. Cant wait to read the others
