When the prettiest young widow in the world comes walking into my life with her adorable daughter, I fall pretty damn fast
I’ve put my career first for most of my life, and now that I’m past forty, I’m starting to wonder if it’s time to think about all the things I sacrificed. Like having a family. Having a sweet face to wake up to in the morning, and loving arms to fall into at night. Lorena just might be the right person to fix all of that for me. Winning her over is going to take some work; she has a baby daughter to protect, along with her own broken heart. But that’s not the complication I’m worried about. My ex, expert gold digger Andrea Case, is inserting herself into my family’s Christmas celebration, manipulating my mother into making sure she can stay. Is she going to ruin Christmas? Or can I find out a way to save it for all of us?
The Widow’s First Kiss is a standalone romance story with a Happy Ever After
Well, I only just saw the ‘virgin’ bit in the title, so it didn’t bother me while reading, but the single mother is not a virgin... go figure! (Although I have seen that legitimately worked into a story, but it’s not the case here, so putting it in a virgin series doesn’t work).
And I just reread the blurb to figure out what’s going on... and it’s wrong. As in, they had an idea for a storyline, wrote the blurb, changed the book, and never bothered to update. I’m pretty sure the blurb is even wrong inside of itself. The blurb says she’s living in an apartment with her sister, but the sister and apartment don’t exist in the book. The blurb also says she’s been working herself to the bone trying to save her house... well, she has an inherited house and tells us she work her ass off in the book, but no talk of losing it. There’s confusion in the blurb over whether she recognises the famous H at first sight or not, but she does in the book.
And my first gripe while reading it... the 2.5 year old having fully worded conversations and convenient insights into the world and her mother. Why can’t people write kids as kids, or at least make them age appropriate for what they need them to do in the story!
Whirlwind also doesn’t cut it for the romance. There’s not build or trust etc. Just wow, I’m scared but hey, let’s go, and done.
Then there’s the talking around everything. He talked around his family (except a couple of scenes with his mum) who were all present and had things to add to the psycho ex driving everyone mad story. Then, when they miraculously get together, it’s done. We are in the final shot, epilogue of everything g that happened after they got together a year ago 🤨
And did I mention the sex scene they fell into after deciding to take it slow and build trust... where she referred to her cunt... which was hella out of line with both the story and her.
1. It was a decent story, but not done that well. The ending was too abrupt and not definite enough, and the writing was off and confusing. 2. I still don't understand how the title is at all accurate. 3. Cindy is supposed to be 2....so, why does she talk like she's at least 5? It's seriously ridiculous.
Very well written short book with great storyline and plot. A sweet romance book. It is a nice read with very hot scenes. Short but full of expanse and hotness.
I love the journey towards their HEA. There is fear, drama, passion, emotions, hot scenes, twists and lots of chemistry in this amazing story. It is written in dual POV which gives the reader much more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. Great contemporaty romance with a twist and very enjoyable read though. I like to hear what happens in the future so the last chapter was welcomed.
Lots of chemistry and hot scenes. I like the main characters and how they develop. The story flows nicely and it is very captivating from first to last chapter. The author has delivered a story that is worth the read!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I give it a 3.5. I listened to the audio version. I didn't like the narrator, not for this book. She was too brassy sounding. I'm sure that works with other protagonists, but not this one. The little girl has an impressive vocabulary for a two-year-old, go figure. It is a short, insta-love story that still manages to have a bwitchy ex-girlfriend and a lot of waffling by the female love interest. Seems that more than one billionaire lives in the town, not likely. I didn't appreciate the comments made about what was supposedly conservative townspeople, liberals are just as snooty. Also, it is definitely not only the 1% that have enough money to live comfortably. I'm sure there was a way for her to get help to support her daughter, plenty of people do it. Food should have definitely not been a problem. I'll get off my story soapbox now.
Sweet story line about a Lorena, a young, military widow who is struggling to provide for her adorable three year old daughter, Cindy. Just before Christmas Lorena sees her teen crush, James, A Hollywood actor walking down the street that has been adorned with Mistletoe. Shy Lorena cannot bring herself to give James a surprise kiss, but sweet little Cindy shocks him with a kiss not he cheek. The amazing story about learning to let go, learning to trust and giving things a chance to progress moved me in this quick read. It’s also an older man/younger woman romance, a favorite of mine!
The Widow’s First Kiss: A Billionaire and A Virgin Romance (Dreams Fulfilled Book 1) is a very good read. A sweet and charming read that will warm your heart. Well written, offers an entertaining plot and engaging characters that are so easy to fall in love with. Peppered with drama and trickery this book makes James and Lorena work for their HEA. But with the magic of Christmas in the air and a lot of help from Lorena's daughter Cindy they all just might get what they are dreaming of this Christmas. I'm posting a voluntary review after reading an ARC copy of this book.
A lovely short story. In a short time, the author was able to give life to her characters, from James and the loneliness he fells now he has reached a turn in his life, and realizes he wants more than wealth, Lorena who struggles to make ends-meet, and miss too to have someone to cuddle with, her cute baby daughter, and Andrea the ugly gold-digger, with only one aim, win or use the others as payback for her lost game. The hesitations of the main characters mixed with their hopes were kind of cute, and setting it at Christmas time was perfect.
Lorena & James find more than a little Christmas magic as their paths cross in the most cutest of ways.
I liked listening to the way the author described the town & its characters. I liked that the drama wasn't overdone or drawn out.
I just think that the author should've been a little more accurate with the book's full title. Also, Cindy speech seems a little too advanced for the age she's given in the book.
Overall, it's a pretty decent book, great for the holiday season.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author.
Happy Holidays This story has been languishing in my queue forever, it seems. I'm really more of a full novel fan than short stories, so I kept ignoring it. Well, today I just wanted a short read...
The story is cute, and sweet with characters that are fairly developed for a short story. This totally has the Hallmark movie kind of vibe going on, with the widowed mother trying to make ends meet and the handsome former Hollywood A-lister who's back in town.
If you're looking for a short, sweet, feel good story, this may be just what you're looking for.
This is really a wonderful heartwarming story of love. A young widow, struggling to survive and look after her adorable precocious little girl, is out just before Christmas to get her santa gift, meeting the crush that she had years before when her daughter kisses him on the cheek under some mistletoe.
Wonderful story with great likable characters, except the mean obsessing ex, sweet storyline. Really a wonderful treat to read.
Super cute story about Lorena, her two y/o daughter Cindy, and James. It all starts with a kiss under the mistletoe. I really enjoyed this story and like all characters, except for gold-digger Andrea of course. Loved how it turned all out.
