Horrid Henry #19

Hirmus Henry rokib

Rate this book

Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.

She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.

Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.

It was a nice little read, not even an hour. It just was a bit too boring as it’s not for my age, it’s for younger kids but I adore the series as a whole

Horrid has never been so good! Horrid Henry Rocks by Francesca Simon is a short story collection featuring every boy's mischievous hero. In these four short stories, Henry invades his brother Perfect Peter's room, infiltrates Moody Margaret's sleepover to steal yummy treats, writes his autobiography with odd results, and plots to find a way to attend a concert given by his favorite band, the Killer Rat Boys.

This is the first Horrid Henry book I've read, but it certainly won't be the last. I have never laughed so hard in my life. Now, if Horrid Henry was my kid, I would certainly be crying a boatload of tears, but Simon's horrible main character will delight early readers with his antics. Simon creates a group of quirky characters and embellishes their quirks to the hilt. Moody Margaret is as stubborn as June B. Jones and as obnoxious as Junie's nemesis, May. Perfect Peter, Henry's younger brother, is the most perfect kid on the earth. He keeps his room nice and tidy; he does his homework without a problem; and he loves Daffy and Her Dancing Daisies like every good boy should. Lazy Linda is too lazy to bother doing much of anything, and Vain Violet won't sleep on the floor at Moody Margaret's sleepover.

The illustrations by Tony Ross are perfect for this one. Ross captures Simon's zany characters in all their quirkiness. From the point of Moody Margaret's nose to the ominous zombie from sleepover ghost story, the book wouldn't be the same without this fabulous artwork.

I want to own all of these books now!

Further adventures of the absolutely horrible Henry and his long-suffering family. If you have parents at your library who hate Junie B. Jones they will loathe Henry, but kids love him. My favorite of the four stories in here is "Horrid Henry Rocks" where his parents get tickets to the lamest musical performance ever and Henry is facing certain humiliation...only to turn the situation to his own advantage. If Bill Watterson’s Calvin were a few years older, he would probably be a lot like Henry!

Horrid Henry is at it again... In "Horrid Henry Rocks", we see a prank battle between Henry and little brother Peter, Henry accidentally attending a Secret Club sleepover, Henry and his classmates writing their autobiographies, and Henry trying to get into the Killer Rat Boys concert.
While I found Horrid Henry to be pretty obnoxious and rude, young reluctant readers are sure to delight in Henry's antics. This is a good book to try and get kids in middle grades more interested in reading, especially boys.

I didn't laugh so hard that milk came out of my nose as promised on the cover, but I can think of plenty 3rd graders who might. Enough potty language to get chuckles from kids and little pranks and clever revenge throughout the four short stories. It is a series that will surely be popular in the lower grades.

I am so "on the fence" about this series. I've read a few so far, and some of them I like (some of them I truly dislike). I think the first one ("Horrid Henry") was my favorite, but this one is a close second. I giggled a lot. I especially enjoyed the Moo Moo character. (heeheehee)

This is a fun book about Henry and his escapades! Reminds me of some of the mischief my boys got into. This will surely please early readers especially with the nice short chapters.

Malcolm says, "I liked all the tricks and I liked that he got the Killer Boy Rats tickets and I liked that he switched Margaret's newspaper and I liked that Horrid Henry got the back stage pass."
