This book was awesome! I can't wait to read more in this series. This is my first book by this author and I think she has caught me in her web! The characters were great in this book and the world was exciting and fresh new ideas. The twists in the story line were great. I loved it what more can I say! *This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.*

Magic Calls (Echoes Book 1) by Miriam Greystone is the first book in her Echoes series. This is not my first book by this author but it is my favorite of hers yet. It is fast reading and once I started it, I couldn't put it down. Her writing style is such that it pulled me right into the story and kept me engaged until the last page. Her characters are both lovable and connectable for the most part, there are a few less desirable. This story will take you on a few twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat one minute and the next you won't see what is coming next. This is a YA story that anyone who picks it up will enjoy. This story is about Molly. Molly is running from a past and her favorite thing is her band. Then one night will change everything. Molly is performing with her band but doesn't realize that there are other forces taking control of her audience. What will happen when she realizes that it is her? She has some supernatural powers that she isn't aware of but others are. Now, they are out to get her! From here she enters a world of hybrids and things lurking in the shadows. One of the problems is that, she doesn't know who to trust. Things are not always what they seem. Others are not always who they say. Will she learn to control the power inside her before it is too late? Is she in danger? I loved Molly's character. She is a little feisty, strong willed and she just knows how to get things done. The secondary characters in this story are just as connectable but some I didn't care for but that is what I enjoyed about this book. There are good guys and bad guys, they keep the story easy flowing and made me want to see what was lurking on the next page. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see how one night will change Molly's life forever!

Magic Calls (Echoes Book 1)
By Miriam Greystone
Rated 5 stars

OH MY GOSH! This story is ah-ma-zing. I went in with little expectations and came out LOVING IT (said in a sing song voice)! I was throughly entranced with the story almost from the beginning. The characters were intriguing and the storyline was one I haven’t read before. Sirens aren’t really my go to story. I had read a previous book by Miriam Greystone and was pleased at how well she does the urban fantasy story. So I figured I would give it a go. She does so well making a believable place filled with wonderful characters that I want to go and live there......Or just hang out with them.

Molly is a strong character who seems to be working toward overcoming a bad past. She is streetwise and I enjoy how she thinks. Jake was my favorite once he was introduced. He is not the ideal hero of a book. But I think his time will come and his star will shine! He has an affinity for Molly for a few different reasons but my favorite one is because she “talks to him like he matters”.
There are all kinds of honest, caring, mean and funny characters Introduced in the story.....Oh and let’s not forget the evil ones too. This is going to be an amazing series! Seriously is the next book done yet??

I read this story in almost one setting and I CAN NOT wait for MORE! I want more of Jake and Molly to see how she deals with the half breeds. I definitely want more of Evie and what lurks in the shadows. Also I’m sure there is more to the Echoes than what we have seen. Ok..now is the next one done? :)

Great, Great job Miriam Greystone!

Magic Calls
Wow! What a great book this was. I was hooked from page one and it left me with a “book hangover”, unable to pick up another book for at least 24 hours.
The characterisation was fantastic and the story line was awesome. It was a real feast for fans of YA literature or supernatural fiction. The character pairings were unusual but fascinating. Molly and Jake were not your average fictional heroes: she running from a troubled past, he a heroin addict, not interested in recovery. I also liked the friendship of Evie and Bea. I liked that the main characters had flaws like heroin addiction and terminal illness to oppose the supernatural gifts, which left them with mental and physical scars and eventually gave them more depth. You could see the world the author created as clear as if you lived in it.
This book had supernatural elements, dystopian elements, love and deep friendship. All you could ask for in a book. A massive 5 out of 5 from me. As this is book 1 I am looking forward to the rest of the Echoes series so we can learn more about the characters, and about the minor characters.

Miriam Greystone had me entranced not even half way through the first chapter! I have always been fascinated by the sea and tall tales that originate from sailors so I was naturally drawn to this book about a descendent of the legendary sirens. Also any story that makes me think about what if one day I discover I have some sort of hidden magical talent are always among my favorites to read. One thing I particularly enjoyed about this book comes from the book’s description. A mysterious group doesn’t think the main character, Molly, is worthy of the powers she possesses and as soon as I saw that part, I was ready to tear through this book to see Molly prove them wrong and shove it in their faces. I was not disappointed. I also loved that there were side characters like Bea that I grew to love almost more than the main characters and I really think that says something about myself but more importantly about the author’s writing abilities.
All in all, I can’t wait to read the next book in this series

I was given this book from the author for a honest review.

first and foremost this book was interesting and sucked me in right off the bat. by the end of the first chapter I was invested in Molly and couldn't wait to see what this book was all about and how she and her situation would fit in.

The fight scenes I found were very detailed and I could imagine it perfectly. just like a movie played as I read this book.

the concept of sirens is not a new one but Miriam Greystone has brought new breathe into the genre.

I am intrigued, left wanting more, and was shocked but certain scenes.perfect amount of suspense and fantasy.

and I saw a review that mentioned the sex scene. I thought they were just right. I HATE vulgar or raunchy sex scenes. this book has none if that useless stuff to fill pages. I much perfer books that "fade to Black ".

very well written. I throughly enjoyed this novel and I absolutely will purchase the next one.

I give Magic Calls (Echoes Book 1) by Miriam Greystone, 5 stars.

I have read many urban fantasy books but this one is like nothing I have read before. The pasts of the main characters are quite dark, but at the same time believable. They went through hell and it shows. But this has just made them stronger. The story itself is very well written. I couldn't put the book down until I was finished. Molly is such a wonderful main character, too. She is tough, but she has her own set of morals and sticks to them, despite what others tell her.

Overall, this is a wonderful urban fantasy book and I would love to see where the series goes from here. I highly recommend this book to urban fantasy lovers.

Hands down the best book I've read by Miriam Greystone. Her imagination seems to get bigger with every book she writes. This book was just perfect. It didn't let you focus on just one person. It gave you several main characters and all their issues. This author wrote this book so well I didn't trip over each character. They're written so well and the fantasy of it all is so believable. Awesome work. Cliffhangers and twisty parts to this book makes you want the next piece of their stories.

Magic Calls

This was hard to get into at first because of the jumping from character to character. The storylines seemed to be different too. It wasn't until the end when the storylines blended together and made sense. So onto the next book in the series because this has been interesting.

Great read, great storyline and characters. Cannot wait for the second book. A little slow at the start, but then hang on, nonstop action and characters building to the end.

Interesting Premise

Interesting premise, but felt like a prequel due to its length. The characters are interesting, but I'm not sure I'll continue reading. It didn't hook me that much.

However, others might really enjoy it.

The writing was good, but for whatever reason, I couldn’t get into it which is disappointing because it was really good.

I think the multiple character POVs and even just the characters themselves made this book difficult for me to enjoy it.

Something there

The story has potential. I found myself skimming through some of the character POV. It didn't feel like I read a book but a 1/4 of a book.

Oh my gosh my head hurts and that's because this book was so full of action and happenings that I could not read it fast enough. Never a dull moment in this entire story. Although not my normal chosen genre I can not say enough good things about this story. Told from a few different POV’s, it kind of felt like little mini cliffhangers all the way through.
I don't even know where to begin trying to review this, the action starts on page one and does not let up...We begin in a bar, we meet Molly, who I really liked from the very first moment I met her. She is the lead singer of her band and has a very powerful voice, so powerful in fact, something happens while she is singing that has her bolting out the back door. She feels called to follow...She has no idea who or what she is following, but she cant help herself. She finds herself being led into an underground world, and learns things about herself that she is in no way ready to accept or believe. They are trying to convince her she is part of their dysfunctional family of hybrid Sirens, and that she is being hunted because her voice is so powerful, but all she wants to do is figure out a way out and to go back to her life, where she was happy...Or was she?
Like I said there is so much going on in this story, but not so much that I ever got confused. I just wanted more...I have so many questions that need to be answered, so many character stories going on that I just know are going to tie together in some amazing way. Part two comes out next month and you can bet I will have it the minute it is available. To heck with favorite genres, this one has me wanting more. This author is AWESOME, and this was written in a way that there is just no describing it.
I have to end this review….Im just out of words and I hope I conveyed enough that you pick this book up and give it a chance…
The way it grabbed me from page 1, the way it flowed so perfectly, the way it left you wondering in just the right places, the way it twisted and turned, the only word left to describe this whole piece of work is Brilliant!!

Magic Calls is the first book in the Echoes Series by Miriam Greystone. This is the second book of Ms. Greystone’s that I have read, and while I really enjoyed her first book (debut novel) Truthsight, this story (Magic Calls) is just amazing. I loved every single word. It is a superb fantasy, full of sirens, Echoes, hunters, action, suspense, danger and so, so much more. This is an original take on a Siren story, a real page-turner that will keep you riveted to the pages and unable to put the book down. I was so engrossed in what I was reading, that I read it all in one sitting.
Ms. Greystone’s attention to detail and descriptive style really makes this story come to life. Her characters are fully realised individuals, with complex personalities (somewhat flawed), but entirely believable and endearing. The story is told from several points of view, in fact the book is more like 4 stories in one, as we get to know Molly, Jake, Evie and Bea- as well as all the secondary characters. Ms Greystone takes all these points of view and blends them into a smooth, intricately connected piece that flows beautifully from one page to the next.
Ms. Greystone even tackles the sensitive and difficult topics of terminal cancer and substance abuse in this book, handling both topics with care and respect- but not shying away from giving a truly authentic depiction either. Some scenes were quite raw, gritty and emotional- and I fully appreciate how much heart, soul, and what must have been a lot of research, that went into writing this book.
The story does end on a cliff-hanger, and the next book can’t come quickly enough for my liking!!

A really wonderful story, thank you Ms. Greystone!

Magic Calls by Miriam Greystone is book 1 of the Echoes series. This book takes place in Washington D.C. with the main character Molly. The story opens with Molly and her band performing in a bar. Molly loves singing and performing with her band, it makes her feel so happy and free. Nothing in the world makes her more happy than performing with her band. Molly does not realize that something is unusual about her voice. It seems that Molly is not just signing for her audience, she is putting them in trance. Freaked out by what is happening, Molly does the one thing she knows best besides singing, and that is to run. She runs away before a riot comes after her.
Molly finds herself among a world of human-Siren hybrids who want to protect her. She learns that she herself is a human-Siren hybrid and learns all about being a descendant of Sirens. There is a group that believes that not only is she, but all human-Sirens, are unworthy of their powers. It is not easy for Molly to trust people, because of her past, but now she must decide who she can and cannot trust in this group of people. Molly faces a conflict and must figure out how to use her powers before it is too late. If she is found, she could be silenced forever along with her new found family.
This book was a very interesting story that combined elements of myths, fantasy, and thrill. The book kept you on your toes and each chapter was told from a different character's perspective. There were 4 main characters that had the chapters told from their point of view. I was kept on the edge of my seat with each chapter wondering what would happen next to Molly and her friends. This novel does not end with a solution to all the problems and I look forward to reading book 2 to find out how it all ends.

Magic Calls (Echoes Book #1) by Miriam Greystone was an original take on an rarely used paranormal group.

First off I need to tell you how much I am in love with the cover, I normally don't comment, but this time I just need to give props to the cover artist.

Now as for the over all story, I was captured right from the start. I loved the split POV and how they happened right as it was getting good; it was like mini cliffhangers through out. It really got your blood pumping and kept your attention. The plot was interesting, and I loved the new take on an old folk lore.

Though I wasn't sold at first on Molly being the OPC (Overpowered Character), there are instincts and then there are just, I don't know, stuff to move the plot. This happen at the start, and in truth it made me weary of Molly's and Jake's relationship. Not saying they didn't grow on me, but until almost then end, I wasn't pleased with their setup.

I actually got more attached to Bea then anyone else in this magical story. She was spunkily, resourceful, and new she was on her own. As the story when on, I love the friendship she had with Evie, and all the raw emotions that went along with it. For me I felt that Bea stole the show, and had the most character growth.

In all I very much enjoyed this one of a kind story. The writing will draw you in, the descriptions will make you feel like you are right there in the action. The ending will have you wanting, crying for more, as it does end in a cliffy. So take my high recommendation that you will be enchanted by this rare diamond in the rough.

Happy Reading

Magic Calls by Miriam Greystone, is the first book in the Echoes series. The book centres on the main character Molly and how she handles a new world of Watchers, Legacies and Echoes.

With a book focusing on Sirens, I was more than keen to dive into the world of an urban fantasy focusing on mermaids. But boy oh boy was I wrong, turns out sirens aren’t mermaids, but are half human, half bird hybrids; and somewhere along the course of history the two were combined. Greystone focuses on the true myth of Siren, coining them under the new name of the Watchers.

I enjoyed the side characters and their interaction with Molly, but they always felt too brief and fleeting. Matt was hilarious with his The Princess Bride quotes, and Thia with her cooking and fearless attitude. I loved Bea and Evie’s as characters, with their beautiful friendship, and how both of them deal with their pasts and problems. I loved that the book dealt with various disabilities and addictions. It was amazing to read about characters that used ASL to communicate.

I had some issues with the lore on sirens. I felt that Greystone could have made this a little clearer, as many readers, like myself, might not know the difference between a siren and a mermaid. I also had difficulties jumping aboard the Molly and Jake ship. Their relationship felt rushed and inorganic. You could see that Greystone had created a beautiful history between the two, with Jake falling in love with Molly and her music, but it skipped over all those juicy backstories and potential flash backs.
Overall I give this book 4 stars and look forward to reading more of the series and see where this leads.

a brilliant read about not giving up no matter what comes your way. Molly is a singer in a band ater turning her life around from a dark past. One day, she sigs from the heart in her sorrow, she accidently enchants a whole pub of people. discovering she has strange powers, she has to run for her life until a group of magical people find her. they recruit her into their secret society and she learns of her heritage as a Siren until enemies arise. when dangers threaten their lives, will they make it out alive?
a brilliant read. well developed plot. well developed characters with deeply tragic pasts to round them out and give them sympathy, especially for Evie and Jake. the switches in perspectives were subtle and easy to follow. each narrative was compelling and were fleshed out in stories like Bea wand her boat. A unique and interesting twist on the myths of the Sirens and I loved the turn of how they lived underground instead of by the sea. the twist on angels in the Watchers which I adored. The use of music and the band and its passion was beautifully done. The magic in the Sirens voices was spellbinding and gave me chills when used by Thia and Molly. The continuing metaphor of lamps being like eyes early on was perfectly written and stunning in visual detail. On that note, I loved the detail of the murals in the tunnel and also the tower under the moon full of stunning visual detail. Finally, the use of sign language was perfectly written and was an interesting portrayal of deaf magical beings. a brilliant novel with twists and turns leaving you waiting for the next instalment of this spellbinding series. Overall, a brilliant read and I would give it five stars.

Magic Calls by Miriam Greystone is the first book in the Echoes Series and the first book I have had the pleasure of reading by this talented author. In this story we meet Molly, a young lady who wants nothing more than to sing with her band. One night while doing just this something strange happens to her audience, they appear to be in a trance. Since she has no idea what is going on she does what comes easy, Molly runs. What Molly doesn’t realize is that she may be running into more danger than what she just left.
This is Molly’s introduction into the world of Sirens, Echoes, Watchers and Legacies. Supernatural beings that can use their voices to do amazing things. An underground group of Echoes take Molly in and the head honcho, Andrew, endeavors to help Molly use her gift. Unfortunately, not everything or everyone are what they seem to be and Molly must figure out whom to trust.
What a wild ride this book was, from the beginning I was sucked into this urban fantasy. While Molly is the main character the book also revolves around the secondary characters whose roles play an important part in the evolution of this story. The story itself was very fast paced and you don’t know what is coming next, there were twists and turns yet the author tied everything up at the end, building up to the next story in the series. This was a quick, easy, fun read that would be enjoyable for all ages. I for one can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

Magic Calls is the first book in Miriam Greystone’s Echoes series. It tells the story of Molly, a singer whose voice can truly cast a spell over an audience. She begins the book unaware that she is more than just a good singer, but soon is running for her life and teaming up with others with similar abilities.
As a musician and a fantasy lover, I was drawn to this book and it did not disappoint! It’s a well-developed fantasy system with a basis in mythology and a modern setting. The narration is over-the-shoulder, changing between characters. This is always very clear as the character is named at the beginning of each chapter. What I particularly liked about this narrative style is that it allows the reader to see various strings of the story and how they come together, which is quite satisfying!
Another thing I thought was great is that there are a few characters who mainly communicate through ASL. One scene I particularly enjoyed has two characters walking, carrying a pile of books and attempting have a conversation whilst passing the books between them to free up their hands!
It’s a great book – five out of five stars from me! Anything that combines magic and music is going to be a winner but this also throws in great characters and a detailed and exciting urban fantasy world. I can’t wait until the sequel comes out!

Magic Calls is the first book in the Echoes series by Miriam Greystone. It is a cliffhanger. It leaves off in a place where you want to read the next book to find out what happens, but not in a place that is frustrating and makes you want to throw your Kindle across the room, lol.

I like the fact that the story is about Sirens, it makes it stand out a little bit from the more common themes, like vampires and werecreatures/shifters. I also enjoyed the way the characters are written, you can connect with them pretty quickly. Magic Calls follows the main character, Molly, and several other key people in the story. I am intrigued by the character, Roman, and am interested to see how things turn out with Bea.

All Molly wants and has worked diligently for is flushed down the drain when she accidentally entrances an audience with her voice. Her performance draws the attention of a group that believes Molly has the powers of a Siren. Molly doesn’t want to believe it, she just wants her life back the way it was. Unfortunately, she has drawn the attention of others as well, and now she has to embrace her powers to protect herself.

Great characters! Awesome story! I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Magic Calls
By Miriam Greystone

Magic Calls is the first book in the Echoes series, its also the third book I have read by Marian and once again I have not been disappointed. I don’t normally get hooked on a book before the first couple of chapters, but this book was the exception. Magic Calls centres around a young lady by the name of Molly. Who for the most part is a singer in a band, that is until the night magic comes calling. Suddenly her life is entwined between two worlds that of the paranormal and the world we live in. Molly one night while singing notices that Jake who she has an interest in is missing but outs it down to his life choices, Jake is an addict. He also seems to have disappeared off the face of the world. Molly wonders where he is. Then there is Andrew the leader of the underground paranormal world. He has decided to summon Molly to the underworld and wants to show her how to harness her powers, a power that Molly doesn’t want to know about. All Molly wants is to return to the world she knows but Andrew tells her that that can’t happen as she is safer in the underground with those who are like her. If book two is as good as this one, then this series is going to be awesome.

Magic Calls- Miriam Greystone

5-star review

It’s books like Magic Calls that make me wish it were possible to give more than a 5-star review! This incredibly unique and original story by Miriam Greystone is simply phenomenal, a must read! It’s captivating, riveting, intense, and so addicting. It’s book 1 in her Echoes series, and it’s one amazing start! This is a book I did not want to put down, one that I could have read forever!

Honestly, I feel like I could never recommend this book enough, it’s stories like these that make my love for reading grow. This story is written so beautifully, and the story flows seamlessly. It’s told in four characters POV, Molly, Jake, Evie and Bea, normally that can get confusing but it was not in this case. It was clearly distinguished. I absolutely loved all of the individual stories playing out within this story, they were so intriguing and I was kept wanting more. I’m looking forward to seeing how they all come together!

I honestly can’t wait to read the rest of the series once released! This isn’t a book you’ll want to miss, so go ahead and press that buy button because you won’t be disappointed!

Magic Calls (Echoes Book 1) by Miriam Greystone is the first in the Echoes series and what a way to start out. This story centers on Molly. She has a past that she would rather leave in the past and is the lead singer in a band that is the best part of her life. What she doesn’t know is that she is apparently a descendant of the Sirens and has inherited some unique powers because of it, powers that a mysterious group of powerful people feel threated by. Thrust into a world hiding behind the ordinary one and with no idea who to trust she might have just sang her own swan song.
This was an amazing book. There is a little bit of everything in here, action, suspense, romance, mystery, drama, this book delivers all this and more and it’s only book one. The writing style threw me for a minute with the way it switched between characters but once I got used to it, it was kind of nice to see the world through the eyes of different people. It made the world that much more real to me. The pacing was also very well done and kept me turning pages long after I should have been in bed. This is definitely a book worthy of a five star rating and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

I absolutely loved this book! The story is fantastic. With lots of twists it doesn't follow a predictable pattern, which kept me gasping in surprise at the unexpected. The auther also does a fantastic job at description and story pacing.

While I normally prefer stories that focus on a single character's story (because I find I get really invested in one character and less so in the others), I really enjoyed how chapters switched between different characters here. It works so well because the author gives each character their own intriguing dilemma that makes you want to follow along and root for them.

At the end of the book, we are left with some great cliff hangers as the main characters are seperated and facing their own new journeys. I can't wait for the next book. This is an author to look out for.

Side note: Mellow love scene that was great for an urban fantasy, but not a whole lot of passion. Good for those who don't need ALL the steamy details, but I could have used more.
