In the backcountry of the Florida Keys, you can see and hear trouble coming for miles in any direction. That is, if you’re paying attention. Jesse McDermitt lives in the backcountry and very little happens near him that he’s not fully aware of.During a quiet moment, he watches a slow-moving shrimp trawler as it serenely cruises by, barely visible on the horizon at the edge of the three-mile limit. The tranquility of the moment is shattered when the trawler is suddenly demolished in an enormous explosion. What caused the explosion? And why was a woman from Jesse's past on board? To find the answers to these questions and more, Jesse and friends will work from Miami to Key West, then across the water to Fort Myers. When the bad guys hit too close to home, Jesse retaliates. Furiously.
I'm a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and now, a full time novelist. Between those careers, I've also worked as a deckhand, commercial fisherman, divemaster, taxi driver, construction manager, and truck driver. I live in the Sea Islands, near Beaufort, SC, with my wife and youngest daughter. We also have three grown children, five grand children, three dogs and a whole flock of parakeets. I grew up in Melbourne, FL and have also lived in the Florida Keys and Cozumel, MX.
Another book for male readers. This story didn't entertained me, but if keep reading more in this series, I will learn more about all kinds of fire arms. Jesse's old girl friend is back with eight years old girl. Jesse witness the boat blowing up, from the flames he knew this was not shrimp boat. Gun fights, diving, drugs. More like a 2.5 stars.
This was a fast paced story, even for Wayne Stinnett. The net result was that I couldn't put it down, and ended up reading it straight through, until 1:30am. Yes, I thought it was that good. I loved how Jesse revisited some of the previous characters, and the new questions that were raised when he spent time with one in particular.
In Rising Fury, Wayne Stinnett will make you hate goodbyes almost as much as some of his characters hate saying the words. But sometimes the best characters are the ones that step up and grow into a part, and he gives a couple of them that opportunity. Hopefully this will turn out well in future volumes.
Rising Fury should make you wonder, sad, excited, and even angry. It might even pull at a heart string or two. Then again, the best 'reads' do.
So, if you are a fan of the Jesse McDermitt series, you should like this one. Lock the front door, turn off the porch lights and the cell phone, and be prepared to read late into the night. There's really only one downside to this book; we now have to wait until until late 2018 for Rising Force.
One of the best novels in the Caribbean Adventure Series. The reintroduction of Savannah (and the introduction of Flo) was totally unexpected and well done. As always, Jesse is in the thick of the action and suspense with a few unexpected twists and turns. The prophecy of Rufus, at the end of the book, leaves me waiting for Book 13.
Another great story by Stinnett. An easy read, but hard to put down. I have read the entire series of books & have loved every minute of them. I can't wait for the next one.
This was a fairly simple story, but it was easy to read and moved at a decent pace. The ending to the methamphetamine story was also very satisfying.
I was tempted to give four stars, but I am fed up with Jessie’s revolving love life, women just seem to come and go so regularly. Quite a few reviewers like the idea of Savannah reappearing, but given the author’s past history she will probably disappear or die fairly quickly. I’m beginning to think the author has some issues with women with the way he so casually dismisses them.
Big fan of the McDermitt series. I am looking forward to the next book. Worth a second read. Rufus comment at end offers the imagination of what Jesse will encounter next.
I have read the entire series and look forward to each new book. The veteran characters have evolved in a believable way and each new character adds to the ongoing storyline. The books are well written and hard to put down. Can hardly wait for the next adventure. Thank you Mr. Stinnett.
Jesse and his group are a real green fighting machine, and this is one exciting episode after the other. I made the mistake of beginning reading it about 6:00PM, and finally put it down @10:30PM, plenty angry at myself for being so negligent. Really one of the greatest books I have ever read, and I have read a few. I am normally a western novice, but I have read all of the Jesse McDermitt novels, all were great, but his one is definitely outstanding.
Certainly no problem awarding five stars to this outstanding novel, and the series is one of the better good guys/bad Gus series I have had the opportunity to follow. Jesse is a lot ?like my western heroes, as he definitely believes in justice. His crew is a well organized group, mostly former Marines who have an extraordinarily camaraderie that doesn't know the words/I can't do that. There are suspenseful moments,a little romancing, drug Lord activities, and plenty of head on combat personified. Mr. Stinnett is definitely a master in his successful storylines, as well as having an uncanny ability in his unique selection of characters that definitely portrays their assigned roles without hesitation! Most definitely recommend this fascinating story to all readers, but especially to all my western adventure followers, who otherwise may not follow a series as outstanding as this one. Once you read about Jesse McDermitt and his followers you will be as hooked as I am! Your loss if you don't!!!!!😀
From his dock in the Content Keys, Jesse McDermitt and Carl observe a shrimp trawler near the Content Passage. This area is not suitable for shrimp trawling, which automatically cause both Jesse and Carl to wonder at the reason it’s in this area.
While on a night dive with Carl and Jesse’s daughter, Kim, to a newly formed sink hole that Jesse found he hears an explosion in the Gulf, just a few miles away. This explosion results in a white-hot ball of fire, followed by a second and third explosion at what seems to be the same location.
Thus begins an investigation into the nefarious world of methamphetamine labs and will eventually bring in all of Jesse’s beloved friends and one or two former friends and enemies. Another “can’t put it down” adventure in the Keys.
What a way to start 2018! If you have gotten this far with Jesse McDermitt, you already feel like family. Like you could walk into the Rusty Anchor and Rufus already knows what you are going to order. Jesse and Carl are sitting at the end of the pier on his island when they witness a shrimp trawler explode. There is something very strange about what they have seen. Is it possible someone is trying to cook meth on a boat? When he finds out the sister of an old flame was killed in the blast, it becomes personal. I will be really surprised if this doesn't end up being on my top 10 list at the end of the year. Terrific read!
I just finished reading the last book so far in this series. I have compulsively been reading for a week and a half. Great action and what we would all like to see happen to really evil people. I had read the first five in the series previously and of course had to start from beginning again. Great author. Sometimes get a little lost with all the water way descriptions but like that there is some romance but no graphic play by play. If you enjoy great storytelling, action, humor, brotherhood of men and women who have served our country. These are the books for you. And thank you for being on Kindle unlimited
Although there's a number of characters that move through the pages, it is easy to keep them separate. The "flow" moves along, sometimes rapidly and other times slower, but always in keeping with the basic plot. Easy to read and to "pick up where I paused". I like the descriptive collection of words, sentences andby paragraphs that make it easy to visually see and understand what's the author is trying to create and convey. I highly recommend you grab this book and get set for a nice trip through the southernmost part of Florida.
Different than the others. Kind of a pulp fiction format. When he re-introduces characters from previous books in series, he needs to remind readers immediately who they were. I read all the books but have read many others in between. This allows readers to reminisce on past books and builds a deeper bond with writer. Still 4 stars. Needs a proof reader that is more knowledgeable about boats and boating. Some information is just not realistic.
As usual a great read, Wayne has done it again, and left you hanging waiting for the next one and hopefully Jessie books up with Savannah.
Another great read from Wayne, fast paced, lots of twists and turns, read it straight thru, in 5 Hours, now I have to wait for a another book. Start writting Wayne I'm waiting...
Another great read by Wayne Stinnett. I can always expect to be drawn in to the story and be unable to put it down. Love the continuous character development, and feel like Jesse, Rusty, Deuce, and the gang are my own friends and family. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
'Rising Fury' was a great addition to an amazing series. The story line was creative and intriguing. The way it played out was full of action, thrilling scenarios, great characters and some surprises I didn't see coming. Jesse is such a great lead. He has a strong moral code and he's not afraid to enforce it. I can't wait to read more. A great add to your tbr list.
If you haven't read Wayne Stinnett's series Caribbean Adventure Series, then you need to start with Book 1. A fabulous thriller series with lovable characters like Jesse McDermott and all his girlfriends and buddies. This last book was fast paced and exciting. Keep writing about the Keys and Jesse please!
When old warriors reach a certain plateau in life they retire and enjoy reading about someone else's exploits from the comfort of an easy chair. Jesse's adventurers provide just such an escape. If you haven't started on a journey with Jesse and his kameraden yet, do do now.
Just finished #12 of the Jesse McDermitt series. All the books were outstanding. I personally found them very informative & entertaining. I am female so you don't have to be a guy to like these. It will be hard to wait for the next release in the series! Great stories & detail & editing. I had to wait to review the series till finished reading! Hard to put down a good book.
Another great story by a gifted author. I really enjoy all the different characters and storylines that are woven together. Mr Stinnett definitely knows how to give you a visual image of the surroundings and the people. I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series.
As time goes on so do the heroes in the stories. As you follow a series you age along with it. In a way it's sad to see Jesse age but glad he can still handle the bad guys. It's was also sad to see Savannah go, maybe they'll get together some day. In the meantime, I'll see how Charity is doing.
“I heard that a couple of do-gooders saw it happen and went to help. They called in the cops and the Coast Guard. They told the cops that it just exploded while underway.” Cedric paused for a second. “Mister B, if they dive on it, they’re bound to find something.”
I just love this series and it has all the flavor of a thriller, mystery and local color of the Keys part of FL, the way it used to be. I have ready 12 of these so far and none of them have disappointed. It is better to read them in order, the stories build on each other with many references to the past.
After reading 12 McDermitt books in two weeks I’ll admit to being a fan. I read a lot of John D. McDonald’s books in the 60s and 70s and Randy Wayne White more recently. As a Florida native I’ve got an appreciation for Jesse and all his characters. I’ll buy and read ‘em all as I get the opportunity.
Good story well plotted kept my interest. But come on guys does every woman in his life always justs gets up and leaves him?? Doesn’t anyone talk and say goodbye anymore? So now I assume Jesse will go chasing after Savannah to get answers and find more trouble along the way! Onward and forward!
Rising Fury is another excellent book by the Master, Wayne Stinnett. Mr. Stinnett has a real knack for story telling (writing). Reading his books, particularly the Caribbean Adventure series, is like sitting down with some old friends to talk over their exciting adventures. Keep up the good work!
I enjoy the continuing saga of Jesse McDermott and his unusual band of friends. His home on an island, the Florida keys and the Rusty Anchor stimulates the imagination throughout his escapades.
