My Rating: 3.5 Stars

Her life was like a Cinderella story, and not the good part, so when Layla turned eighteen, after unwittingly sabotaging even her job, it was time to just run as far and fast as she could. Little did she know, her attempt to re-make herself would be as dramatic as the truths she was about to learn, as incredible as the four women who saved her life, or the love she was about to find.

Adrian Wolfe’s HALFLING exists in a world where supernaturals are real, but their existence is not flaunted. Layla was clueless to the fact that she had magic, she was immortal and she was a witch coming into her powers. She also never dreamed that demons existed or that she would find her true love with Hunter, a demonic bodyguard, useful for his power, but despised by witches. Fate has a funny way of turning things upside down, though and while the rest of her world is a deadly question mark, sometimes that oasis of love is all that can keep a young witch sane.

Ms. Wolfe has created a world that makes the supernatural seem, well, “natural.” I found it fascinating that the witches were not all-powerful without a downside to using their powers. It made them more “human.” The style of writing made Layla seem her age, filled with a lack of self-assuredness that resonates with her age group.

Light on depth in the romance department, this one certainly makes up for it in the paranormal aspects, for sure! A nice way to spend a few hours in another world!

A smooth witchy read

Adrian Wolfe has created a world where supernaturals live in plain sight while still hiding their talents and skills from the average person. When Layla comes into her powers as a witch strange thing begin happening that she can't explain and the supernatural never enters her mind or the fact she is part of that world. As a lonely and abused young woman Layla begins finding out about her self and discovering new friends and romance. She also becomes involved in the search for who is killing witches in her Florida community. Smoothly written with a good flow and plot this book makes for a great evening or bed time diversion.

It was an okay book, probably better suited for a younger reader than me. The heroine was iffy to me, yes she was young and unsure and from a sketchy background. But, all said and done, she didn't win me over. 3½ stars

A 3.5

A good read and interesting concept. The story is quiet repetitive in beginning go on about Layla having no friends and her mum being an alcoholic who is mean to her. After a few chapters this isn't mentioned as much which is good. The suspense in the story builds nicely as the fear of danger grows however the conclusion to that seems to happen really quickly and is a bit anticlimactic. Overall a good read.

Layla is a talented artist who is working as a waitress so she can save money for college. Her dream is to study fine arts and writing, but her dreams were shattered when she lost her job. Her alcoholic mother, who never showed her any love, threw her out of the house and told her to never come back. She packed up her car, making sure to grab her art portfolio and drove away into the night. When her car died, Layla decided to go in search of help. She grabbed her backpack and took off down the road, where she came across some drunk guys who started following her down an alley. She was running out of options when a car raced down the alley and four young women jumped out. They began yelling at the men, then out of nowhere, a blinding light flashed in the sky causing the men to run away. The women told Layla that they were all sisters and that they would never hurt her. Layla had no idea what they were talking about, but she would soon find out.

Hunter is a demon that has come to the earth’s surface because the underworld is slowly vanishing. His job here is to offer protection to witches because someone or something is killing them. He brought three other demons with him who will assist him in eliminating the threat. Hunter wants to live on earth and he would love to find a mate to share his life with. The minute he saw Layla, he knew his search was over. He hopes that with time, she will feel the same way about him, because she is his soulmate and he will always protect her and keep her safe.

Can Layla accept her new life and everything that comes with it or will she turn her back on the only family that she has?

Will Hunter be able to keep Layla safe? Can he prove to her that they were meant to be together?

“Halfling:Dark Immortals Book 1”is the debut novel by author Adrian Wolfe. Hunter comes into Layla’s life when she desperately needs him and their love is everlasting. They help each other understand how to exist in both the human and paranormal worlds, and more importantly, how to survive. “Halfling” is an well written debut novel that I know both romance and paranormal fans will enjoy. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Demon’s Possession.

Layla Nordmeyer is having a very bad day. First she loses her job to only be kicked out her house by her drunk mother and now she is struggling to remember where she parked her car when she is approached by some drunk guys. Yet through that she meets Sophie, Damaris, Lizeth and Rose who embrace Layla and bring her to their home.

Hunter is attracted to Layla the moment he sees her but he is there to offer Sophie his services in helping to protect her and her coven from an unknown murderer who is killing witches at an alarming rate.

Can Hunter and his men keep everyone safe when Hunter is so focused on Layla? Can they get to the bottom of everything before anyone else is hurt and will Layla be able to follow her heart when she discovers who she really is?

This was an interesting book on witches, demons and a few other paranormal people.

The attraction between Hunter and Layla was immediate and definitely intense. I liked how Hunter was aware of how he felt and what was going on but Layla was so naive to everything because of how she grew up unaware of everything. I would really like to have another book that looks more into Layla's life and perhaps we get to meet her father.

I liked how protective Hunter was over Layla and how he was going to keep her safe no matter what, although he almost put her at risk a few times unknowingly. It was interesting to see the reactions of Penny and Sophie when they learned what was going on but I liked how Layla stood up for herself and what she wanted.

I would love a story on Sophie and maybe we can see a different side of her that allows her to be more vulnerable and less like a stick in the mud!

Forging A Sword From Broken Chains (4.5⭐️)

Halfling was a wonderful beginning to this series. I can’t wait to read the next book and see how the characters develop and grow, especially Layla. I’m also excited to see what new adventures the next book will take Layla and Hunter on.

Layla is an eighteen year old girl who doesn’t have any other family besides her alcoholic mother. She’s suffered years of mental abuse, sometimes physical, from her mother. It instilled in Layla that she was useless, ugly and unworthy of love. So when she finds herself accepted by a coven of witches claiming she’s a fellow “sister” it’s not only hard to believe that she’s a witch but that these women actually do care for her and believe in her.

Shortly after being accepted into her new coven chance has Layla and Hunter meeting. The instant they meet Hunter knows Layla is the only woman meant for him, his mate. Layla feels the connection too but her mother’s words fill her with doubt. The more time they spend together the more she realizes that Hunter’s feelings are real and that she loves him just as much. The only problem is that Hunter is a demon and their relationship is forbidden. What happens when hiding their relationship is no longer an option and they have to face the racist ways of old and fight for the love they share?

I enjoyed Halfling. I liked seeing Layla’s character develop. She went from being a girl beaten down and broken to someone stronger and more confident. Transforming from a girl into a young woman. Although Halfling has a younger feel to it I think fans of Deanna Chase’s Jade Calhoun series might enjoy this book.

This was very different from most paranormal books I read. Instead of shifters and vampires, it tells the story of Layla, an 18 year old girl living with a mother who can't stand her, suddenly out on her own with no idea who she really is. When she is approached by some seedy men in an alley, she is suddenly rescued by a group of women who know who and what she is. With no other options, she follows the women and finds out she is actually a witch who is just coming into her power. This answers a lot of questions for her. But with finding out this information, she is now in danger from someone who is killing off witches.

Hunter is a demon. He and his clan forge an unlikely alliance with the coven of witches to help protect them. He also finds Layla, a witch who becomes more to him than anyone could know. No longer is protecting the witches another job, it's about saving the woman he loves.

This is a good beginning to what I hope will be a different kind of paranormal series. I hope that more books will give us more of Layla and Hunter but also tell more of the other witches and demons. I think it has some good potential. Thank you Adrian Wolfe for what I hope is just the beginning of a great series.

Layla is 18yr old waitress who looses her job after one to many unexplained incidents, she meets the sisters of a witches coven who explain that the strange thing happening are her own magic! They explained that she is a halfling ( witch crossed with another immortal) but they don’t know which.
There is someone/thing out there killing witches and the coven are struggling to find out who.
Hunter is the leader of a small group of demons who are willing to trade with the witches with them helping to protect the witches and help find the killer with the witches them helping to protect them to stay on the surface.
The attraction between the two is instant and natural but they have to fight against the others long seeded opinions on mixed relationships.
Layla has to learn how to use her magic and control it. Hunter has to make sure all the coven are protected. Can they find the killer ? Will the attraction hold? Will they be able to be together despite the prejudice of others?

I really enjoyed this book, not my usual genre but I will be looking for more like it. And if anybody can point me in the direction of Hunter or Cody that would be very helpful lol.

Layla is in a tough situation. An absent father, an alcoholic mother, and the fact she can't keep a job. Things are happening to her that she doesn't understand. When she is forced to leave her home she is discovered by a coven of witches. They accept her, become her family and teach her of her past. As she struggles with all of this she also has feelings for Hunter.

Hunter and his group of demons promise to guard Layla and her Coven from someone that is after them. He knows his feeling for Layla but it is unheard of for a Demon and a witch to have a relationship.

This is a great story that not only has paranormal factors but a forbidden love. It keeps you on the edge of your seat because of the suspense in what is hunting the witches. There is romance but also angst, suspense and some good fighting. It does not end in a cliffhanger but there are some unanswered questions out there.

I've always enjoyed paranormal movies and recently started reading this type of books.

Halfling tells us the story of Layla a regular girl with a terrible mother who then discovers that she's different, she's a witch. She finds a place and people where she belongs and with whom she can be herself.

She later then meet Hunter, a super hot, handsome and powerful guy but at tue same time sweet. He and Layla discover they are made for each other.

The story is very interesting but I felt it too rushed. Everything happened out of the blue, I liked she discovered her true self but the chapters jumped from one thing to the other, Hunter's clan barely spoke, they were just there. The real danger at the end left me like is that all?

Overall is a good story with a lot of potential. I'll read the next ones in the series.

This is the first book by this author and I was blown away! I don't read a lot of PNR, but I loved Layla and Hunter's story! I was a huge fan of Charmed and several other paranormal shows. This book took me right back to those shows and the wonder of the paranormal. Witches and demons fighting the dangers in the world together. I loved watching these two enemies unite to stop a threat to the witches.

The writing was great and I was swept into the story from the very beginning. I took a chance on this PNR book since I don't read a lot of it, but I was not disappointed and will be looking forward to more stories from Layla's coven. The characters were well developed and the story well told. There is definitely a future for this series and there are some things open ended. I'm so excited to step into this world. Great read!

What do you get when a demon and a human mate? A halfling. Although Layla is no normal halfling, her human side comes from a line of whitches. Although no one has ever told Layla she's a witch until a coven happens to come upon her by chance and notice her powers. Hunter is a demon who's come from the underworld because of things that are happening there. What he doesn't expect is when he's hired as a bodygaurd to the coven that he'd find Layla.

Overall Thoughts: I don't venture into paranormal very often and usually when I do it's for vampire books. But the blurb sounded good so I decided to give this book a try and was hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed Layla and Hunter's story, although it did feel like there was something missing. A few things that happened didn't seem believable to me, but I left that to my lack of knowledge of all things paranormal.

I really enjoyed the story line - it's a while since I'd read any paranormal, so this made a nice change to read about demons and witches. It felt like it was written for a younger audience - I'd let my 12yr old daughter read this, and I think that's where it fell down for me slightly, even though the cover suggests a slightly older audience. There was great build up of suspense towards the end, but I would have liked to see more action - that part was over too quickly, considering the build up it had. . Overall I did like the book, and as far as I can see, this is a debut, so the author is off to a great start. There's potential for more books with the other characters, something I'll keep an eye on.

Great start and great ending and in between it was one of them books I didn’t want to put down! I love paranormal books and this has a lot of paranormal characters, it doesn’t go fully into them all but you get a taste of them and want more! It was a great storyline and interesting can’t wait to read more on hunter And Layla and the coven and underworld and of all the other paranormals! There is so much that is happening on the book but it’s not overwhelming or hard to keep up im not gonna go into Pacifics as don’t want to give anything away just to say it’s not a dull moment and you want to find out more and read the next book but it has a definate ending and can be read alone but you would wanna keep reading more!
Love it highly recommend!

This book had a good premise. I liked the storyline and how different the author saw witches and demons. I tend to like a strong heroine but in this story the heroine seemed whiny and not kick a$$. Sure she got some self confidence but the majority of the book she wasn't like that. I found it kind of cool that witches were the most powerful of the immortals and that demons had no powers. I liked the racism won't be beaten in a day message also. Loved Hunter for sure just not a huge fan of Layla. I'd give this book 3 out of 5 stars. If you want a different twist on immortals you should check it out.

ARC IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Published: 31st January, 2018

Rating:3.5/5

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Young- Adult fiction, Wiccan, Demons, Sisterhood, family.

This is the first book in the series called DARK IMMORTALS. The story starts with a bang of emotions, as we see LAYLA facing very horrifying situations. She is a strong protagonist though, who grows into a strong female as the story moves forward. We see the formation of new bonds, and this new family becomes the forefront of the drama, which unfolds later!

Layla is half witch without any awareness of witchcraft until she begins getting her power when she comes of age at eighteen. Hunter is a demon recently relocated out of the underworld. When their lives collide unexpectedly all bets are off as they recognize each other as fated mates. As they ban together to protect Layla's new coven of witches they must fight not only evil but each others breed in order to survive and remain together. An interesting new read for me, I only wish it had been a bit longer with more background on each of the immortals and had delved more into the underworld and finding Layla's father.

Great new author!

I was excited to read this book as I love paranormal stories. This was a refreshing take on a paranormal story. I enjoyed following Layla on her journey in self discovery and finding a sense of belonging with others who understand you. In walks Hunter, a demon, and sparks start to fly. Adrian Wolfe keeps you guessing and rooting for Layla and Hunter. I am looking forward to reading the next book and I hope she continues past the next book and shares the stories of the other characters.

I was a bit thrown off as the blurb does not actually match the story. But, I loved the story anyway.

This book was very good! It has a good story line. And I like the author's view on immortals.
Layla just turned 18 and lost her job. She is a witch just coming into her power.
Hunter is a demon and witched and demons are supposed to enemies!
So what happens when they have to work together??? (You gotta read this book to find out lol)

I really liked the characters in the book. The end of the book kinda just ended wrong to me.
But it is the first book in a series and I can't wait to read more

Paranormal movies and books aren't normally my type of thing. But, this good was pretty good.
Layla is a regular girl or so she thinks. Her mom is a nightmare to live with. Layla finds out she's a little different...she's a witch. It takes her a while to believe she has a different kind of power than most. She meets Hunter; handsome, powerful, yet sweet.

Although this book was good, I did feel like this book was rushed. Everything happens in a blink of an eye. Maybe it's because this genre isn't my normal type.

I downloaded Halfling as a free ebook from Amazon. While the blurb was interesting, the storyline was pushed by convenient happenstances, aka: questionable coincidences, and a few plot holes the reader was supposed to accept without much thought. I liked the characters, but they weren't very developed, and, the contradictions in worldbuilding kept taking me out of the reading. Not a bad book, and glad it was free, but not enough meat on the bones to keep me reading more in the Dark Immortals series.

I love paranormal romance and this book was very refreshing. Instead of your typical vampire/human love story Hafling is a different spin. Layla and Hunter are adorable. She had a horrible mother that kicked her out of her home and Layla found out she was more than just a human. Luckily she meets some of her kind and is educated on her abilities. She also meets Hunter. Her whole world changes. Can't wait to read more by this author!!

Halfling is the first in a series and shows promise. This story follows Layla, a waitress who has just turned 18 and unexpectedly finds out she is a witch. She gets taken in by a local coven. They are experiencing deadly attacks and reluctantly hired some demons to protect them. Hunter, one of the demons, recognises Layla as his mate but he is met with suspicion and prejudice from the witches. The book definitely improved as it went along and think the next book could be good.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story about an 18 yr old woman with a neglectful mom, who discovers she is half witch. It is definitely geared more to YA, which for me isn't a bad thing. Sex is limited with no descriptive content. No crazy violence, no swearing and no cliffhanger.

The characters were outlined well, and very believable. There was a very thoughtful part of the book that answers the question, why can't the witches save the world. It was the first time I read an answer to this question that not only made sense, but could be applied to "normal" life. It was very philosophical. And I liked how the mythology was easy to digest, and you believed the answers.

The relationship between Layla and Hunter was posed really well, and even though the story talked about true mates, it still struck me as fairly normal for people who fall hard in love.

The story ended definitively with no cliffhanger, but it still gives an opening to answers questions. Will Layla find her Dad? Will she come across her Mom again? Will her coven ever fully accept Hunter? Will Layla get stronger? Its a great debut from an author with potential. I will read the next book.

I had to say I wasn't sure about this book, but I thought why not try it and see what happens. Let me tell you I'm so glad I did. What a great story. I hope we will see a book 2 because wow I just wanted more. Story of demons and witches and teaming up and seeing how different groups are. I loved the way the author seemed to really research the details. Its a book that will really get you involved and for sure make you wanting more...

Halfling by Adrian Wolfe is Book 1 in The Dark Immortals series which is a new Paranormal Romance Suspense series.

I enjoyed this book for its interesting take on Witches and their Lore and the suspense/mystery element. We are introduced to Layla and her Witch coven and Hunter and his Demon Clan, however mention is made of other paranormal beings which I'm sure will turn up in later books in the series.

Fans of C.N. Crawford and similar will enjoy this book.
