I'm not Prince Charming, baby. I'm a King. I’m the country’s hottest rock star. She's my little sister’s best friend.
I left everybody in the past when I left Crown Creek, and I never want to go back. Too bad—I have one last obligation to take care of before I can leave this town behind forever. I’m not planning on running into her in the parking lot. And now? Now, she’s all grown up. She’s a gorgeous spitfire and I want her the moment I see her. The only problem? She can’t stand the sight of me...for good reason. Still—there’s one thing I know. Even your mortal enemy can become your lover if you sing the right tune...
Theresa Leigh is a romance author whose love of reading is so intense, she sometimes injures herself by walking around with her nose in a book. She loves writing stories that have you feeling every emotion... sometimes all on the same page.
After five years of writing romance under a penname, Theresa finally decided to own up to how she was spending her all time. Her mother now knows all about the kinds of books she writes. She reacted more positively to it than Theresa expected.
Theresa lives and writes in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State (not the city) (that distinction is important to her), where she lives with her husband, twin sons and twin orange cats, Pumpkin and Jackie O’Lantern. When she's not writing or reading, she enjoys eating too much Thai food, walking around barefoot, and cooing baby talk at her cats.
Basically this was a good story but it was totally destroyed by the appalling proof- reading, or lack thereof. The number of errors in this story became a joke after a while and very frustrating. Generally I would have just given up but for some reason I persisted. If it was a preview copy I could accept all the mistakes, but I don't believe this one was. It was pure and simply sloppy editing. An author loses credibility, regardless of how talented they are as a writer, if they don't take editing seriously. This story was good. A real shame though that the proofreader did not do the work justice. If you need a new one, get in touch with me and I'll offer my services for free! I hate to see talent destroyed the way this proofreader has the potential to destroy your writing career.

Someone once said, “When words fail, music speaks.” Although this is a novel, constructed with words and phrases, sentence structure, paragraphs and chapters, the music eloquently tells the story of Ruby and Jonah’s journey to happily ever after. With a flowing melody, a sometimes dissonant harmony, a dramatic crescendo and sweet, evocative final notes, “Sweet Crazy Song" will have your heart joining in the symphony.
Vivian Lux has once and for all won me over to the rock star genre! I don’t know how it’s possible, but each new book is better than the last, and this book is a fantastic beginning to the Kings of Crown Creek series! Four small town brothers make it big in the music industry and then everything falls apart. Three brothers return home, but Jonah sets out to make it as a solo artist. After too much time away, the death of their beloved uncle and fellow musician, Gideon, brings Jonah back home. Not only does he have to deal with the sudden loss of an important role model and face the brothers he hasn’t spoken to in over two years, his sister's best friend, Ruby, gets in his face and won’t cut him any slack. That’s the part he likes, though, because somehow just being around Ruby breathes new life into him and he’s finally starting to feel again through the numbness his life had become.
Take a deep breath, roll up your sleeves and grab the Kleenex box as you dig into this one. I don’t even know where to start because there were so many things in this book that resonated with me. The plot was great, with some surprising curves thrown in, and Jonah and Ruby were amazing and amazing together. The sense of family was really special and so on target with the relationships and interactions between the siblings. And I don’t know what funerals, wakes and memorials are like for everyone, but the memorial for Gideon at the end of the book took me right back to times with my family after a couple of my family members passed away. Yes, there was sadness but there was much more fond remembrance, tribute, celebration of life and making memories that I still hold dear years later.
As I’ve come to expect from this author, she paints a picture of a fictional world that begs the reader to jump in feet first and become a part of the landscape. She creates characters that are realistic, larger than life, loveable and just enough flawed. Of course there’s a character who's more damaged than the rest and badly in need of redemption, Jonah, in this instance, and Ms. Lux manages to redeem him in a beautiful, spectacular way. Then she infuses the story with stunning word pictures, a little humor, a little heat, and a ton of heart, so before you know it, you’ve consumed the book and are left just a little stunned that it’s over and dying for another fix of the characters. This book will own your heart and seep into your soul, so hit that 1-Click and start reading immediately!
To be honest I have definitely read a lot of rockstar or music star, related types of books, but this, this wasn't it. And I guess I'm ok with that. Usually with rockstar music star books, they have to grasp me in, in the beginning of the book but I just wasn't invested in it. And that's cool with me I guess. Oh well.
This is really book one despite what it says in title.
I liked the book because of the word descriptions. I could picture the ginger kitten hiding in the ceiling tiles...I pictured the car in the ditch with snow filling in and on the car... I loved the knitting scene and the guys around the campfire with ridiculous hats.
However, The plot was a little weak and sometimes it happens with series where characters mean so little to the overall plot but are "hinted" at for subsequent books. That is the case here and so Gabe looks like a quick favorite for the next book??!!
But still the plot was weak. Jonah hooked up with Ruby too fast. There was hardly any wooing. Luke's character presented a chance for some jealous wooing on Jonah's part but author made Ruby a bit easy, unfortunately. I was rooting for her but Jonah has it too easy in life.
The lack of outside (of the town) connections seemed weird. I couldn't believe one bad concert and your manager drops you???? No one else in the world wants you either and you are that famous. Someone will want to make money off you. So it's never explained about the black ball. Weird.
So for me it was just lacking a bit more effort to make it a four or five star.
When a second look provides clarity. When a kiss opens doors. When grief opens the heart. When the arms you least suspected become the ones you can't live without. Jonah and Ruby are devastated by the death of a loved one and while they don't seek one another out, fate has a way of bringing them into their lives a way neither expected. But without the courage to keep each other close and to change dreams of the future and what success looks like, they could lose the very thing that will heal them and make them fly.
I actually quite liked these characters. They were flawed and didn't give either of one another any quarter when it came to fear and responsibility. Together they brought one another solace, healing, passion, and love. It breathed life into Jonah's creativity and gave Ruby the companionship she never really had despite her close relationship with her girlfriends. Each of them possessed the something the other person needed.
Ruby was defensive at times but what came out of her mouth directed to Jonah was spot-on. It gave him the fuel and fodder for making good, real change. The kind that fundamentally changes a person and their relationships. Because of her he could heal the rifts between him and his siblings. It also brought him peace. Something he wasn't sure he'd ever really feel again.
Jonah was damaged and childish without a rudder in the storm that was of his own making. Feeling lost and abandoned he didn't know where to turn. And then he ran right into the little spitfire that was Ruby. With her compassion, empathy, and kick in the butt, he could finally breathe, grow.
I enjoyed the ride but could have used more of the foundation aspects of relationship-building instead of relying on bickering, passion, and a snowstorm to bind them together. They weren't really friends as children so there wasn't that to bolster their romance either. Despite that, tenderness, grief, togetherness, healing, redemption, and love; this story had all of that and more.
Mending Fences, Finding Love amongst grief and Stubborn ways

Two pages in and I knew - what you ask?
I knew this new book would be an all-consuming, maddening, impassioned romance I would be blocking out reality to digest.
Why? I am a big fan of stories of brooding arse like characters, ones who have a heart in there cold hard-shelled exteriors but have chosen to not show it due to what life dealt them (Jonah), or they've forgotten what it is to give and receive. Then, of course, there will be a woman who is just that right amount of everything to bring the out heart in him.( Ruby ) Having some brooding brothers, with humorous sides and naughty boy (Beau, Gabe, and Finn) attitudes are icing on the yummy cake in these romancing of lyrical woes tales! I cannot forget Claire, the younger sister who works in Reckless Falls. ( my favorite place, doesn't get any better than that )
So much emotional upset goes on! Watching everything unfold and transformations take place had a heart heavy, sexual overload ( not that I am complaining..) butterfly fluttering all over good feeling.
In other words, it was a purely addictive storyline! I swiped that last page my heart sunk- but knowing the next book is coming Lost Filthy Night, gives me hope!
I am already completely invested in the King Brothers and ecstatic to read Gabe's story!
Vivian Lux imo has created something spectacular I cannot wait to see all the places this goes!
This was my first time reading Theresa Leigh. Sweet Crazy Song was the last book in the Happily Ever After Collection I have been reading. It was another great surprise! Such a cute, fun, fast, read! It was part of her Crown Creek series but it can all be read as a stand-alone.
Jonah was back in his hometown paying his respects. As a rock star, most people were more than excited to see him but not his family. The falling out they had years ago had yet to be mended.
Ruby was the complete opposite of Jonah. While he lived the rock and roll life, she was corralling kindergarteners. Could the two of them come together and direct the school play or would it be too much?
Ruby soon finds that not everyone knows the real Jonah. Would sticking up for him change the way his family saw him? Would their two worlds come together or were they kidding themselves?
Such a sweet and loving best friends brother romance! Jonah and Ruby has such a great connection, I love when it feels so genuine! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!!
I want to point out that if you have issues with typos/grammar; you will have to look past some with this book. The only reason I mentioned it was because of all the reviews that pointed out how bad they were. To me, I barely noticed them. There were a few spots I had to re-read the sentence for it to make sense, but overall the story line was so good, it was super easy to not let those bother me!!
I really enjoyed this book. What happens when a man who has only know the stage since he was a child do when his closest family member and mentor passes away. He has to go home and face some really hard truths.
While I really liked Jonah and Ruby, I will get to them in a second. The thing first and foremost that I loved about this book was the family aspect. If you read the prequel to this book, you know the four brothers had a falling out. The book starts up years later and from the very beginning you see that the hurt is still there. A family crisis brings Jonah home and forces him and his brothers to start to talk and deal with what has happened to them. I loved that this was a focus of this book. I think as the brothers dealt with this, it was the tool that helped Jonah grow to become the man we know he can be.
I really liked the character of Ruby!! I liked her with Jonah and I also just really liked her as a woman. In so many books I have read, the female needs to be really sassy and strong to the point of being almost bitchy or she is so caring and warm that she is almost a doormat. Mrs. Lux did a wonderful job with Ruby and wrote her as a mixture of both. She has the biggest and warmest heart but she isn't afraid to stand up for herself of call someone out if need be.
This is the first book in the Kings brothers series. I think that this is going to be so a unforgettable journey , I am so excited for the next book. This is Jonah's story is the the oldest brother and became a solo artist after his brothers left their band. Jonah lives for the spotlight and disregards anything that is not about music, he has a sweet heart, He just doesn't realize that he is hurting and making decisions for everyone, especially his brothers.Jonah comes back home for the first time in two years due to his Uncle's death, and I feel like he sees life differently he wants to reconnect with his brothers and sister. Ruby sweet, sweet Ruby, is a kindergarten teacher (perfect fit) Claire(King bros little sister) is her best friend since childhood she knows all about arrogant Jonah and is pissed when he shows up late to his Uncle's Gids funeral, she has a very close relationship with Gid and lets Jonah have it. After Ruby barrels into his life Jonah can't seem to shake her and doesn't want to. I gave this four stars just because it started out so slow, about 40% it picked up and flew by so quickly, then it was over, and I over here needing MORE. I loved the whole King family dynamic and was so glad to see the brothers patch stuff up as much as possible, Ruby I loved her sweetest character . So Ready for next brother.
Really torn about this story. It started off strong. Then I thought I wasn’t going to be able to finish the story. I was just having a hard time connecting with the characters and it seemed to drag. Also the author did that thing authors do when they have a series in mind...introducing every character under the sun.(I’ve now read book 2 and 3 and really don’t understand the deep introduction to some of these characters). Once I finally started caring about the characters, I was in, and I liked them, but it was just seemed like pulling teeth to get there. The author also did something else I hate....the dreaded cliffhanger. To be honest though, without it, I probably wouldn’t have continued with the series. I was interested just enough to read the first few chapters of the next book and got sucked into that book. I enjoyed book 2 way more than book 1 I think. PS the time of this review book 1 is free on Amazon.
Ok, admitted I have not made it very far at all, but I'm done. The h is a bitch. She's decided the H shouldn't be allowed into his his uncles funeral because he's been estranged from his family who she thinks of as her own and she's going to protect them from him even tho they want him there... Wtf! So she just happens to run into him in the parking lot when she ducks out in the middle and decides to vent her rage on him while stopping his entry... but falls into his arms grieving... and then screeches like a harpy when he finishes the hug and goes in... Then follows him around like a rotten fish giving him the judgemental evil eye at every turn and snarly judgemental comments whenever she can get them in...
... And I haven't read far enough to see if this is anywhere near the mark, but from what I've read and what the blurb said, I feel like she's all 'I hate you and am going to stop your evil plot... but actually... I've got a libido you could be rubbing.'
Oh Jonah King was amazing, I LOVED this book, He has come home for his uncles funeral, Jonah has not been home in 2 years, not since his solo career took off, after the disasterous breakup of the King Brothers, He, Gabe, Beau and Finn were in. (We do get to know why the broke up in the book) You will not only fall hard for Jonah but you will want to know more about his brothers and their sister Claire (who works in Reckless Falls). Ruby is Claire's best friend and has known all the King's for most of her life, She was wonderful friends with Gideon (Jonah's uncle) and when Jonah shows up late for the funeral she is livid. Ruby and Jonah slowly work towards each other. I truly loved the story but felt like it took a bit to long to build up (slow start) but it is so so worth the read and the ending OMG now I cant wait for the next book
My how the mighty fall when a woman gets thrown in the mix. Jonah King sure found his own precious gem and her name was Ruby. At first they couldn't stand each other, both doing what they could to annoy the other one. Until Claire, the king sister threw them together on a project and annoyance soon turned heated with passion. Ruby let Jonah know that he was a jerk, he needed to heal his family relationships and that he never had to go it alone. Uncle Gid had found a way from the grave to help his favorite nephew and his special friend Ruby so that they wouldn't give up their best chance at love. Once his brothers understood that he hadn't sided with their ex manager things were better between them. Until a call comes in that could threaten the family happiness. Can't wait to see what happened to Gabe!
I'm reading this book as part of the Long Live The King anthology and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this story. The characters had depth and the secondary characters, and their backstories, truly made me want to read further books. It was sexy, although the sex scenes itself were on the lighter, shorter side.
I do agree with other reviews that this book probably needed another once over by an editor. The writing was so good that I'm surprised there were so many basic spelling mistakes. Like additional letters at the end of a word or "He'd" instead of "He's" type stuff. It didn't personally make me want to set down the book, but I definitely noticed and I'd pause for a moment be like, "Damn, another mistake, huh?"
If the author could fix those this might have been a 5 star.
This was a really good read. I thought that the characters were developed nicely and the writing flowed well. Jonah and Ruby are great together, and their chemistry was hot. Even though it was a sad occasion that brought them together, they were able to make something good of it. I was glad that Ruby could help Jonah see that all his decisions don't just effect him, but other people as well. I loved that Jonah was able to make amends with his family. While Jonah and Ruby get their HEA, there is somewhat of a cliff hanger ending. It leads into the next story. I didn't mind it, because Jonah and Ruby's story was complete. I can't wait to find out what happens with Gabe! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Book one of the Kings of Crown Creek series. Told in dual POV with HEA. Each book in the series is about a different King brother. We meet the whole King family in this book when the oldest brother Jonah returns back to his small hometown for his uncle's funeral. Jonah has been on the road for the last 12 years, the first 10 with his brothers band and the last 2 on his solo career. Ruby the sweet kindergarten teacher has been best friends with Jonah's sister sense their elementary school days. I liked how Ruby helped Jonah to see how his making decisions for others is not in their best interests, and that lead to Jonah being less selfish. I wish there was more time spent between just Ruby and Jonah to lead up to their HEA. The epilogue sets up the next book in the series.
When his uncle passes away, Jonah returns to his hometown for the funeral, and the first person he bumps into is loyal and feisty Ruby who is his sisters BFF. The chemistry between these two is explosive. Jonah has not seen of spoken to his brother’s Beau, Gabe and Finn for a couple of years due to a falling out, so how will he be welcomed back into the fold? No spoilers; this is one of those stories which is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is well written, and flows seamlessly, with plenty of humour, emotion, brooding, and love. I highly recommend this authors’ work for all readers, and cannot wait to read the next book in this phenomenal series!
I voluntarily reviewed this book. Ruby is trying to hold onto the memory of the man she thought of as her second father after his abrupt passing. A friend of the famous King family, she stayed in her hometown becoming a teacher. Since the breakup of his brother's band, Jonah has been hitting the bricks running trying to keep his dreams of stardom alive. But set back after set back hits and ends with the passing of the uncle that made him the man he is. Going back home to face the family that has never forgiven him for not following his brothers after the break up. Can old hurts be forgiven? and can new relationships last when there is a deep need for fame?
Theresa Leigh you got me with this book. I loved everything about this book. It was sweet, kind, sexy, and just pure writing.
Ruby is the sweet kindergarten teacher whom lost her father but found that father figure in Gid.
Jonah is the perfect rockstar who could melt anyone's heart. Jonah and his brothers started a band and became famous. Things happened and they separated leaving Jonah king as a solo. Jonah hadn't been in his hometown is over two years but a tragedy brings him back.
Ruby and Jonah's encounter is not sweet or roses. As the story develops we see how perfect they are towards each other.
Probably closer to 3-1/2 stars, but not enough to round up. This was a sweet story, though very insta-love-y. I mean Jonah shows up in town, gets one look at Ruby and can't get her out of his head. And one of the first times they're together, he kisses her -- in public and sort of out of the blue. And then she gets pissed at him for ordering for her at the local diner. (Why?) And then he apologizes (again, why?) and they get all kissy again... I dunno. There was a lot of push and pull, and then will-he-leave-or-won't-he. And there was this whole what's he going to do with his career thing. It was sweet, but for me, probably forgettable.
I absolutely love this book. I received this book as an advanced readers copy today and I finished it in one sitting. I fell in love with Jonah and Ruby’s story. I kept turning page after page not wanting it to end. Vivian has such a way with her writing that keeps you wanting more. The storyline and characters are well developed and very well written. I found myself laughing and some parts (Ginger) and swooning in others. I am looking forward to reading more from Vivian and more from Crown Creek. I highly recommend this.
Read the prequel first, Loud Rowdy Heart, to get the back story on the Kings. A beautiful love story about finding the one that loves you for who you are. Jonah and Ruby are beautiful together. Can't wait to read more about the Kings of Crown Creek.
Favorite quote: "Sometimes the most important things you can do are in private. And I really think that the things you do and the thoughts you think when you you know no one is watching is what shows you who you really are."
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jonah hasn't been home in 2 years. When he has to come home for His Uncle's funeral he was only set to stay one day. When Ruby runs into him in the parking lot because he is late. It starts a chain of events that no one could se coming. With everything going on with his family and Ruby is he finally learning to be a grown up or will everything fall away from him. Will Ruby learn that things aren't always what they appear to be and see what's in front of her. This book will make laugh and want to cry. It was an amazing read.
This is a series. There are some spoilers. This is a "safe" romance and has a HEA.
Jonah is a rock star who returns to his small hometown for a family funeral. Ruby is his sisters best friend.
Sparks fly when these two meet again. Jonah is struggling with past decisions and the future of his music career. Ruby is cautiously making her way in the aftermath of her friends passing.
Funny moments, sweet words and music and these two find their way together.
Everything about this book was really good up until chapter 25. From there on, the story went downhill. During 25 chapters, the leading characters kissed twice and then, suddenly, everything happens at once. To me, it felt like from chapter 26 everything was rushed and you couldn't enjoy it as the first part of the story. The characters were likeable but they could've been more interesting. It was an okay read.
I received a copy of this book as the January read of the Too Hot To Handle Book Club.
Sweet Crazy Song is the first book in the Kings of Crown Creek series. I enjoyed this well written book and loved the storyline and characters. Packed with emotional turmoil, grief, regret and family drama this book really grabs your interest and engages your emotions. Ruby and Jonah have great chemistry and I love them together. A wonderful romance and a perfect start to this new series. I look forward to returning to Crown Creek soon. I'm voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book.
Wonderful! I was pulled in with emotion from the start. I love Ruby's fire and loyalty. Jonah, I really like Jonah. There were changes in him that I felt along the way. I love their spark and chemistry. Tears flowed freely at times, things that make you think and connect. We see tiny bits from the other siblings and I want to know more about each of them, even Claire! I'm excited for more from Crown Creek.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This brand new series was absolutely amazing, brilliant, wonderful and so full of emotion that you can't help but love it. They way you gave these characters such life and love had me melting from the very beginning. I can't wait to see what book 2 is about. If b I could give more than 5 stars I definitely would but since the highest I can go is 5 that's what I'm giving it. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy
