Newly diagnosed with multiple myeloma, Steve Nolan called every person in the country rumored to have the same form of cancer. He was misinformed about NJ DeVico’s leukemia; she had myelodysplastic syndrome. The initial phone call revealed his love of poetry and her love of art. A collaboration—and friendship—was born.
Steve Nolan is a hard-hitter, unflinching, and a gifted poet. The combination of his poems with the always arresting pastels of NJ DeVico makes for a synchronistic conversation. One begins, the other continues, in different order but always with rich results. They are both travelling a harrowing path, their cancers threatening, and as a consequence what they notice about life is valuable. Deeply engaging, astonishing wherever you happen to open the page.
