About the author

M. G. Leonard is a writer of books, poems and screenplays. She has a first-class honours degree in English literature and an MA in Shakespeare Studies from Kings College London. She works as a freelance Digital Media Producer for clients such as the National Theatre, and Harry Potter West End, and previously worked as a Senior Digital Producer at the National Theatre, the Royal Opera House and Shakespeare’s Globe. She spent her early career in the music industry running Setanta Records, an independent record label, and managing bands, most notably The Divine Comedy. After leaving the music industry, she trained as an actor, dabbling in directing and producing as well as performing, before deciding to write her stories down. Lubię książki dla dzieci. Wiele razy już o tym Wam pisałam. Jeszcze bardziej lubię mądre książki dla dzieci, takie które uczą szacunku do świata, ciekawości i zmuszają do myślenia. M. G. Leonard stworzył właśnie taką książkę, która absolutnie zachwyca i jest pretekstem do wspólnej zabawy dużych i małych miłośników przyrody, a chrząszczy to już w szczególności.


PRZEWODNIK MIŁOŚNIKÓW CHRZĄSZCZY
Dr Leonard w swojej publikacji zawarła wszystko czego młody sercem przyrodnik potrzebuje by odkrywać fascynujący gatunek jakim są chrząszcze. Tak na marginesie to największa grupa zwierząt na świecie!

Na początek dr Leonard przygotowuje czytelnika do wyprawy poszukiwawczej zdradzając wszystkie triki i sztuczki. Prócz teorii dzieli się także wiedzą praktyczną popartą wieloletnim doświadczeniem. Pełna faktów i ciekawostek o życiu tych stworzeń, z pokaźna bibliografią i przydatnym dla koleopterologów spisem stron internetowych dzięki którym można zgłębiać wiedzę oraz wymieniać się doświadczeniami z innymi miłośnikami na forach.


MĄDRZE
Książki dla dzieci powinny być odpowiedzialne społecznie i uświadamiać młodego czytelnika o palących problemach naszej planety. OK – pomyślicie – ale gdzie chrząszcze, a gdzie nasza piękna Ziemia. Przecież te żuczki takie małe i nie mogą mieć wpływu na cokolwiek. Otóż mogą, a nawet mają. Wiele gatunków chrząszczy spulchnia ziemię, jest swego rodzaju leśnymi sprzątaczami. To bardzo ważne stworzenia w naszym ekosystemie. Dr Leonard w bardzo prosty i przyjemny sposób opowiada o chrząszczach i tłumaczy jak ważne są to zwierzęta, dlaczego należy je chronić i nie robić im krzywdy. Bez zbędnego patosu i z odpowiednią dozą humoru.


CIEKAWIE
Niektóre z chrząszczy pomagają policji i detektywom ustalić czas zgonu zamordowanego. Krówki za to wydzielają substancję, którą stosuje się jako lek w leczeniu brodawek. Po wojnie Europa oskarżyła Stany Zjednoczone o bombardowanie stonką ziemniaczaną. To tylko niektóre z ciekawostek, które możecie przeczytać w przewodniku dr Leonarda. Nic więcej Wam nie zdradzę! Przekonajcie się sami jak chrząszcze mogą zawładnąć Waszymi głowami i zmienić plany na weekend!


PODSUMOWANIE
Przewodnik miłośników chrząszczy to przede wszystkim fascynująca lektura. Choć mam 26 lat najchętniej wyszłabym teraz z przewodnikiem dr Leonard na spacer w poszukiwaniu chrząszczy by móc je trochę obserwować i podglądać.

Do tego jak już wcześniej wspomniałam przewodnik jest cudownie wydany i bardzo bogato ilustrowany. Mogę go przeglądać godzinami. Dr Leonard pisze na luzie, bez zadęcia, błyskotliwie i zabawnie. Nie można się nudzić.

Dla dzieci w wieku: 7 – 12 lat ( tych nieco większych także).

I so enjoyed this book! I honestly wasn’t sure if it would be my sort of read not being much of a beetle fan but as it already has such brilliant reviews I thought I should give it a go and thank goodness I did! A boy called Darkus turns detective with the help of two friends and a beetle to track down his entomologist dad who mysteriously disappears and is believed dead. Daring exploits, new friendships, bravery, a brilliant den, a despicable villain and a huge amount of beetles. This book will hook you in and I can’t wait to read the second in this trilology; Beetle Queen. Age 8 +

Eigenlijk had Felix hem mee, maar zelf ook graag gelezen!

Ik ben helemaal geen insectenfan, maar kevers kan ik nog wel hebben (al was ik behoorlijk wat keren aan het gruwelen van de foto's/illustraties van de beestjes). Het boek was best interessant te lezen, over een entomoloog die ons alles verteld over kevers en over zijn expedities/vrienden. Het boek is opgedeeld in stukken (zo hebben we waterkevers maar ook poepkevers). Ik vond het ook leuk om commentaren te lezen van de hoofdpersoon uit het Beetle Boy/Keverjongen boek. Gelukkig niet echt spoilers, want ik moet de boeken nog lezen (ik wist niet dat dit boek ook commentaar had toen ik het oppakte, pas toen ik begon te lezen kwam ik achter dit feit).
Zeker wel leuk om te lezen, al denk ik dat een keverfan of een Keverjongenfan misschien het boek nog leuker gaat vinden dan ik het vond. Ik zat gewoon net iets te vaak te gruwelen.
