I am not usually a fan of poetry, but this book was an amazingly good read. I do warn that this book has several fowl comments and word usage. I also warn that some of the references are inupropriate. I would recommend this to high school aged group, it would be good for others with high school troubles.
Mel Glenns collects several poems from a senior class at a public high school. Several of these poems relate to the many issues that concern a high school student. Each student faces things like love, drugs, alcohol, sex, and parental problems. I a lot of poems some are connected and about one another. This book will remind you just how troublsome high school could be.
I personally weeded this from my old library because it was SO outdated. Published in 1982, the poems are terrible. I suppose they would have been an accurate portrayal of high school students in the early 80s, but they are a bit offensive and sexist today. But it is the pictures of the kids that make this book hilariously dated. Big hair, huge thick glasses, and chest hair peeking through open shirts.
I loved this little book! It's a bunch of poems that make up the various stories of high school students in the 1980s. The pictures are obviously dated but the experiences, emotions, conflicts, everything, actually shows how LITTLE high school has actually changed since then. I want my own copy!
