I know very little about running, but this book was fascinating. It's been a while since I read it, but thanks to this book, I now get a flash of recognition at the names of certain runners (from New Zealand and beyond). The photos are great too. I imagine that if you are passionate about this sport, it would be even more interesting, but I found it accessible too.

A great book for those interested in NZ sport and particularly Athletics. A great insight into what life was like in the 70s for top Athletes on the European circuit.

An interesting and engrossing account of John Walker, Rod Dixon and other NZ long distance runners competing internationally in the 1970's. The author was the “1970 sports reporter of the year” and a great supporter of the NZ team who helped both John and Rod with their training. His reports on all the important races in Europe and Scandinavia make interesting reading especially his analysis of the athletes individual fitness and running styles. Great reading for other long distance runners of the 60's and 70's. 4.5/5
