Even though spiralling prices are a thing of the past, you're still convinced property could be your key to financial freedom. And it could. But where do you start? Do you invest near where you live, or wherever yields are best? Do you rent to families, or professionals, or students? Should you be trawling through Rightmove or lurking at property auctions? This short book covers the big questions you should be asking yourself before you so much as glance at an estate agent's window. It contains a jargon-free explanation of basic investment principles, summaries of the major post-crunch investment strategies, and advice on developing a mindset that will support your long-term success. You'll learn... How to pick an investment strategy that matches your skills and goals The only three calculations you need to know to size up any deal An overview of every major investment approach, from the most boring to the probably-not-a-good-idea-but-here-you-go-anyway How to (safely and sustainably) stretch a limited pot of cash to build whatever size portfolio you want ...although you will need to endure some pretty shocking jokes along the way. Sorry about that.
It is a decent introduction to the world of property investing. The book offers a clear, straightforward overview of the basics, making it accessible for those who are new to the field. It's a great starting point for anyone looking to understand the fundamentals of property investment, with practical tips and a step-by-step approach.
So many books on this subject are dry and difficult to get into. Property Investment for Beginners is accessible and perfectly pitched as a book for the inexperienced. In the introduction, the author states that his intention is to have written book that is clear, honest and fun to read. And he has succeeded hugely. In addition to a series of informal but informative chapters, the author offers a number of possible avenues for further reading, including additional materials from the author. In short, it’s good value for money, offering a useful way in to a complicated subject, with the possibility for future support beyond the confines of the covers. A good buy.
As a complete novice in this subject, this book comfortably provided me with a great initial insight into the world of property investment. In less than 200 pages, the book explores key concepts and themes which allowed me to grasp a foundation. Would recommend anyone interested in how property investment works in the UK to give this book a go!
I am a big fan of Rob Dix who is the founder of Property Geek books, mailing lists, popular blogs and podcasts.
I have read a few of his books on properties and property investments. He is a no-fluff, no-nonsense author who gets to practical advice and tips with guidelines on how to achieve those goals right off the get-go.
What I like about his books is that he includes real-world figures and examples either directly from his experience or a real hypothetical example and shows you how to calculate your costs and yield.
This book was ultra short and punchy to the point. If you need a more thorough step-by-step see his official guide I included above.
In a way, it is a cut down summary of its big brother which I have already read but needed a refresh without diving deep in that book. So this one was a perfect refresher. One final and a massive bonus is that, if you own the Kindle version of his books, he seems to update them to be current and in-line with the new laws, regulations or tax changes.
- Excellent short book about the basics of investing into property in the UK. - It's mainly focused on buy-to-let, not covering other types of properties (commercial, commercial accommodation etc.), but the goal of the author I guess was to cover property types that are the most accessible to readers who are just starting out on a low amount of cash to spend. - The book does a very good job of covering all relevant areas, including the benefits of taking out a mortgage, legal implications and how to deal with various stakeholders. - A MASSIVE bonus of the book is the author's excellent humour, I found myself laughing out loud multiple times while listening to it walking on the street.
This is exactly what the title says. It gives you a head start and peek into property investing. The book gives you an insight on the whole game on property investing. The book is written from a UK perspective (legals, taxes, housing types, etc), which coincidentally matched my target market. The book also contains a large amount of references to further resources of information.
The language is easy and casual and humourous which makes it very light reading.
This is the book to read if you're serious about investing in property. It is the ultimate guide for all things property. Written in such a way that it keeps you engaged throughout, you would be wanting to read just another page before putting it down, before you know it you've read another chapter.
Excellent intro to property investment. Helped me a lot to understand the basics which were quite different than my own findings from Google. Feel ready... to read more of Rob's books that follow this one and hopefully will buy something this or next year.
pretty sound advice and information. i bought this short book to get a feel of the quality and type of information before getting some of the other books by this author. a lot of the information is uk-centric but not all. so keep this in mind when considering purchasing the book. the authour has the kind of dry british sense of humour i can jive with so that's another selling point
Handy information for those new to property investment but disappointed that Rob cannot bring himself around to suggest worthy alternative resources in the Appendix other than just promoting all of his own stuff.
I was a total novice and found that this book was the perfect first step. My next step is the follow up book and then the real world of property investing. I feel like I can actually do this.
This book offers the basics of property investment. It is everything I needed. I can't wait to purchase "The Complete Guide". It is written from the British perspective (which I loved). Easy, simple to digest written in laymans terms.
Another book that helped me start moving forward on real estate investing. This book helped me open my eyes to the different investment strategies available and helped me define my own plan.
I found certain part a little too brief and I would have liked certain parts to be more detailed.
Very Informative , like other investment books out there it touches on very important topics. However, this is the only book so far, that I've found to be written for 2020.
Audiobook: This book has been a good starting point to hear the different strategies, things to take into account etc. It might not be the most exciting listen and it did take me a while to get through it but it’s educational and tells you what you need to know before making steps into property
A good introduction into the property field, basically a big brief overview of everything you’ll get to know as you progress throughout your journey with buy to let. Very great read with a little bit of self promotion at the back as well.
Good quick read. Ideal for a novice on the subject. Enough info to whet your appetite whilst keeping your interest with a combination of friendly humour and short chapters.
Does what it says on the tin. A concise introduction to property investment in the UK, leaving me very inspired to read more. An easy and informative read.
Excellent introduction to a complex subject. Will be keeping an eye out for more materials from the author as I look to educate myself further in this topic.
