The New York City Ballet ballerina recounts her experiences studying with, working for, and--finally--becoming an inspiration for the foremost choreographer of the century
This book is great for young dancers. A lot of it is technical and Merrill describes the dances in detail. You don't really learn much about the dancer as a person. She should write another on just herself. It is always interesting to read what Balanchine's dancer's write about him. Since he wrote no autobiography, the best way to learn about him is through his dancers.
I bought this book in New York City (along with a few others... forgetting about the suitcase I had to take back...)
It was the first one I read.
I still remember sitting in my livingroom loveseat on a Saturday morning, after breakfast with a cup of coffee ant starting reading, and reading, and reading... and at some point thinking "I am hungry", looking at the clock and it was past supper time! I had been taken on a wonderful trip and forgot to eat!!!
