B+ This book is not for the casual athlete, or those without a great interest in sports nutrition. It gives a lot of great information on how to eat to improve your performance, and has a lot of great info for endurance runners like myself. One interesting thing is he places a lot more emphasis on carbs than protein, believing that so much protein is not necessary for runners and that too much emphasis is placed on it. Love it! Great for coaches and hardcore runners and nutritionists.

This book was pretty cool in that it gave more detailed explanations about the interaction between nutrition and physical performance than a standard workout or nutrition book. I picked up a few good "tips." However, I'm not a professional athlete, so I personally have no where near the dedication required to put to use the vast majority of the info.

A great book that I place above other nutritional books. Dan breaks down what you need to eat to perform and recover and why. He goes beyond other books by acknowledging that sometimes athletes cant control what they are eating, for example flying for international competitions. The book lays out a structure for make food choices to suit training from fast food outlets or packing non-perishable items etc. Real practical stuff.

The book is indeed at an advanced level, so reading it sometimes is quite challenging, but the sheer amount of knowledge about nutrition and how it affects the functioning of our body is outstanding. It contains many useful, practical nutritional tips, some specific to many different sports. Also, the author was an advisor to the American Olympic team.
I've been looking for a reliable source of nutritional information for a long time and finally found it in this book.

After a very slow start, this book turned out to be very informative. It clearly explains the processes and nutrient delivery systems, along with meal timing for optimum performance. It covers several sports, although I wish there was more on endurance road cycling, which was not much.

Pretty technical but it was really cool to learn more about nutrition and how it affects the human bodies performance. I think there are some parts people who aren’t that detailed into science can skip but it really has interesting info.

The book provides technical and detailed information about sports nutrition in a clear manner. However the differences between branches could have been addressed in more detail.

Very in depth analysis of nutritional need for athletes. Thorough explanation of energy systems for different types of athletes; power, endurance, and combinations based on sports. It could have used more examples of body types.
