R.J. Palacio lives in NYC with her husband, two sons, and two dogs. For more than twenty years, she was an art director and graphic designer, designing book jackets for other people while waiting for the perfect time in her life to start writing her own novel. But one day several years ago, a chance encounter with an extraordinary child in front of an ice cream store made R. J. realize that the perfect time to write that novel had finally come. Wonder is her first novel. She did not design the cover, but she sure does love it.

Kindness, KINDness and KINDNESS -. I feel like I'll never get old of that message!!!!
While most people say the novellas didn't have such and impact as Wonder, I feel that these novellas are also REALLY ADORABLE. I LOVE IT FROM BEGINNING TO END. COULDN'T PIT THIS NOVELLA DOWN!!
I feel that this book has a huge focus on children's mind - the friends you choose, the way you try to blend in, etc. Which is something that I'm TRASH for
Soooo........ Thank you RJ Palacio for this book!!!, this really is a book that needs to be treasured for years. Centuries :D!!!!
I loved the first 2 stories, the other ones not so much, I think they don't add anything to the main story, August one. It is a lovely book, very well written and that speaks about important topics with irony and depth at the same time.
5 stelle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I haven’t read this book in 13 years and re-reading it again was literally the best thing ever! It still felt like I was reading it for the very first time. Beautiful story with a heart-felt message!
When I read the book it was the ‘Original’, and it had just came out (2012). Obviously I hadn’t read the ‘The Complete Collection’ - as it wasn’t a book yet. (2018) But I’m so very glad I did read this book again with the addition with three new stories I hadn’t read before!! It gave me more of an understanding what three other characters apart from August was going through at the same time. I definitely understood where Julian, Christopher, Charlotte coming from. It was a wonderful addition. There were moments where I was surprised; but also felt sympathy for them all.
Just to say; I will never ever watch the movie ‘Wonder’ (2017), which is based off this book. Some books just don’t need to be made into a movie; and this certainly is one of them. As a person myself with a disability (Cerebral Palsy, right hemiplegia); I believe that any movie they is based of a book or a real life person who has a disability or needs help; should be done with the most utter respect and done in the most appropriate way. Or to actually think before if they should do a movie about it and to see if it will be done the right way. I also don’t think I could handle watching the movie without saying “They didn’t add that scene” or “Why did they change it”
Anyways…
I absolutely love reading this book and I will be certainly be reading it again!!
December, 2017 “Wonder” wonderful book! heartwarming and adorable ❤︎ ★★★★★
March, 2021 I’ve read “Wonder” before, so this time I read “Auggie & Me”. I enjoyed reading the story of “Wonder” from different perspectives. I’m glad I read these stories. ★★★★☆
It is clear that R.J. Palacio is what the term "one-trick pony" describes. Since the publication of her debut novel, Wonder in 2012— a solid 6 years ago— there has been no other work under her belt outside of this single franchise.
It would have made a difference if each publication made within the story's setting was a chronicle (say, for popular example, the Harry Potter series; seven books about the same character, but continuously evolving the story), but Wonder was only one story, and none of the other titles builds on the first novel. I am excusing the three short stories that were later compiled in Auggie & Me: Three Wonder Stories (which includes The Julian Chapter, Pluto, and Shingaling: A Wonder Story), as each story does, to an extent, build upon August Pullman's story in their own way, and is some of her best work.
However, I am taking in account for 365 Days of Wonder: Mr. Browne's Book of Precepts, We're All Wonders, and The Wonder Journal, which not only doesn't bring anything new to the Wonder setting, but blatantly feels like a cash grab. As I have stated similarly in my review for We're All Wonders, the well-meaning messages and genuinely good themes of tolerance and acceptance are completely negated when those ideas are capitalized to make a quick profit— none of which is donated, even in part, to organizations such as Children's Craniofacial Association (CCA), which supports those affected by craniofacial conditions.
Discovering this new publication was a sure let-down, as it is not a new story but a rehash of what has been read before. This edition earns an average of 2 out of 5 stars when factoring in the rating of all previous publications (including 4 stars awarded to Julian and 3 to Pluto, Wonder's saving graces).
This is actually 1 book and 3 novellas. The rating of 5 goes to Wonder which is a must read for all ages. The novellas were okay but more of a 3.5 - 4.
he bestselling book Wonder was released in 2012 and while it made a huge splash at the time, I was 18 and not really reading middle grade. So it took me until recently and being much older to get to it. I bought this Complete Collection when it was released and I think that was even three years ago – it has sat on my unread shelf ever since.
But Prose Before Bros voted this book as one of their monthly reads so here was my chance. I finally read it!
It didn’t take long from page one before I was hooked. I loved the voice, it felt so authentic and then imagine my surprise when we switched POVs multiple times – but it only added to the reading experience. Having the perspective of so many different characters really fleshed out the world and made it feel so real, so big, so complex. All done really beautifully and simply.
So, if you’ve been living under a rock or just not really paying attention like me, what is Wonder about?
It tells the story of August Pullman. He’s ten years old, loves Star Wars and he’s about to start fifth grade – his first time at a regular school, because most of his ten years so far he has been too sick or recovering from surgery to go to school. He was born with a craniofacial difference that has needed to be operated on so he can breathe and eat without assistance, but through all the operations he still stands out from the other kids. In this year he will learn to navigate friendship, bullying, school and more. And it won’t be easy for him.
I really loved the characters but Via, Auggie’s sister, particularly stood out to me. I loved her strength and compassion but really felt for her too, trying to carve out her own mark on the world while still loving her brother unconditionally. It was a nice surprise to get perspectives from Charlotte and Christopher in the companion novellas in Auggie and Me which was also included in this collection. I struggled the most with Julian, because it’s hard to understand how adults can be so cruel and then inflict those teachings onto their children. His grandmother was a real character though, I thought she was fantastic. Overall I felt that each of the kids really contributed to the beating heart of this story.
It’s worth mentioning that the author of Wonder does not have experience with craniofacial differences herself or in her family. I read some reviews that spoke favourably about the representation from reviewers who do have experience themselves, which is great, although I think we all agree that while it’s great to have diversity in characters, we should always be striving for diversity in authors as well. The reviews for the movie are mixed, but I will look more into that after I watch it myself.
A super heartwarming book, touching but not too sappy, and with a beautiful message of kindness. I just regret the fact that it was perhaps a bit too "happy ending" and that we didn't get the point of view of the parents, which definitely seems important to me.
I didn't know what to expect from Auggie and Me, especially the bully kid's point of view, but it was surprisingly the one that interested me the most because i wanted to understand his behaviour towards Auggie.

Granddaughter recommended this. She read it in 5th or 6th grade. Point on for this age group and it would help many adults to both understand children as well as help their own empathy development. I liked the fact that Wonder is the base of the story & is often read as a stand alone. The other three books flesh out the perspective of the other characters. Cleverly handled!
Caleb, age 8: " This book is 4 books, Wonder, Pluto, The Julian Chapter, and Shingaling. They all add up to one great, heart-warming story. Can't wait to read the other Auggie books!"
This is my favourite book of all time, I love it! (Love the movie as well). Definitely recommend! It is funny, sad, touching, triumphant, and much more. I would recommend this book for ages 9+
Being I saw the movie before reading this book...I couldn't NOT see those actors in the roles. But book and movie are just as good I can say. Do then both!
