Cinderella in the Sheets

Rate this book
Prince on the streets seeks Cinderella in the sheets. Presley has a problem. It’s not that his evil stepdad is President of the USA, and he’s tired of traveling the country to stealthily sway right-wing governors & senators over to the side of good. (Well, besides that.) It’s that the escort Presley hired for a night of fun turned out to not be an escort after all, and now he can’t find the guy. Damn his habit of always wearing a blindfold whenever he hooks up with strangers! Half his Secret Service detail are after the guy for the security threat he poses, half are on team #finallygetPresleyaBF, and Presley himself just wants to see the guy once more to figure out if what he felt that night was real. All they have to go on are a couple of clues and the glasses the guy left in Presley’s hotel room, but by using all the surveillance they can get away with, they’ll find him somehow. I think this was an ok read but I didn’t fall in love with it as I expected. I think I will feel more like this is a better read if the title is different because I don’t think the title suits the book. While the blurb is truly interesting and urged me to read this one ASAP, I didn’t get a fairy tale vibe and heartwarming romance from this book. I definitely expected more fluff from this one because of it’s title but I didn’t get what I was expecting.

Although there are two MCs, we don’t get the characteristics of one MC at all and I am not sure I understand the other’s identity well too. Presley is the step-son of a notorious president (there is nothing whatsoever about his step-dad, the president, so I don’t know why he’s evil). He’s closeted and currently working as a middleman between the elite and the commonfolk. To scratch his itch every now and then, he hires escorts to fulfill his sexual needs and one day he met an escort he desperately wanted to meet again.

From 30% to 87% of the story is about Presly finding the man he spent one night with who turned out to be not an escort. The writing dragged on and on and on and I felt like it was too elaborate on the unnecessary details. So the rest of the 13% is about Presley finding the mystery man, falling in love with him and coming out of the closet. I think the story could be much better if the author cut out unnecessary elaborations and focus a bit more on two MCs. I feel like I don’t get enough romance from the book since less than 50% of the book was focused on these two. And there’s only one sex scene in the entire story and that was also more focused on the instant attraction and emotional connection between these two MCs. I wish I could see more of these two MCs spend time together in the end. The epilogue was a nice touch though.

2.5 Stars....rounded up....just because......
That title....well, that title is simply lovely. Unfortunately, it had little to do with the book. Here, we seem to have a “prince” with a wicked stepfather. Our prince’s life is not bad, considering he’ll be a billionaire in a few months.

The Cinderella, if there even was one....I mean, s/he was the one with the hellacious stepmother and sisters; the one who had everything taken away from him/her and turned into a scullery maid who slept next to the dying kitchen fire. No one here fit the bill. Sure, a hook-up leaves his glasses and princeling wants to find him, but that’s it. And just so you know, this hook up man, isn’t doing so bad for himself either. Not at all. He’s basically at the pinnacle of his career.

So then, why tease us with a name that carries little relation to the actual story?

Stepdad is the President of the United States. Presley (the prince) says he’s EVIL. That’s all we have to go on. No deeds mentioned. No personal attacks. Nothing. Nada. How and why is he evil other than being called a Republican? Does that mean ALL Republicans are EVIL? That’s a harsh stereotype and untrue.

In fact, the whole story felt like this. Shallow. Broad. Full of assumptions that don’t garner the author any credit in helping to lay out a story and give depth to the characters. If you’re going full on archetype on us, at least honor the types. Give me my prince. Give me my wretched man in distress. Give me the evil I want to smite. Don’t let it become a muddled mess in our heads that make us want to put the story aside and forever be done with it.

Another gripe I had.....(I promise I’ll say some nice things soon)....was with the overwhelming, undaunted overuse of similes. I started counting them during the ONE sex scene, but gave up after 10 or so because it was like picking birdseed from ashes without little birds to help me Disney style.

Ok, then...no depth to characters, title is a misnomer, confusing, over-writing, little background....I think that sums up the things I didn’t enjoy in this story.

What did I like? I liked the title and the cover. I liked the concept of the plot—it just needed flesh and blood and nerves. I liked the chemistry between the two MC’s. I enjoyed the HEA.

This was my first book by this author, but I’m not sure I’ll pick up another one. It’s a shame, really, because this truly had promise; it only lacked proper execution.

This was superficially cute and engaging, and I had a good time reading it. For those readers looking to spend a few hours with a comfortable read, this book would be a good choice.

For me personally, this didn't reach the depths I usually expect from a romance novel. The idea behind the book is that Presley, step-son to the Republican President of the United States, whom he regards as evil (though no reason is really given, other than the guy being Republican and thus presumably homophobic, which explains why Presley is in the closet), therefore Presley has only anonymous sex with escorts who are provided by Rico, a member of his security team. As part of the anonymity, Presley wears a blind-fold before, during, and after sexy times so his hook-up du jour can't recognize him. Which means that while he's in a hotel room alone with the escort, HE CANNOT SEE.

Stupid and dangerous? You bet.

Presley is tired of traveling all over the country trying to win over other Republicans to his way of thinking, no matter how stealthily (since he has evil step-daddy in the White House), and when he finds out that his latest escort wasn't an escort after all (thanks, Rico), he moves heaven and earth, and his entire security team, to find the guy. Because this was more than a fuck and run, and Presley might have fallen harder than he thought possible.

The title of the book is misleading. Neither Presley nor the escort are Cinderfellas by any means, and any real similarity to the real Cinderella story is rather far-fetched. While Cinderfella leaves his glasses in Presley's room, in a nod to the glass slipper, that's about the only thing that felt somewhat familiar.

I think this would have worked better for me if the presumed Cinderfella was actually poor and/or in distress, or the one with the evil step-mother or step-father, but that wasn't the case here. Unfortunately, due to the plot, the MCs spend most of the book apart, and I had a difficult time believing that Presley had truly fallen in love to the point of not leaving any stone unmoved to find his man.

The search for Cinderfella was the best part of the book, and the snarky banter between Rico and the head of Presley's security detail was fun. Like I said, I had a good time reading this book. I would have liked a bit more character development, and I would have liked to know a bit more about Louis the Cinderfella, other than how sweet and considerate he was. The HEA was cute, though I would have liked for Presley to grow a bit more of a backbone than he did.

This was a fun albeit not very deep read.

Cinderella in the Sheets was the first book I’ve read by Reece Pine so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very impressed. This one was creative and held my attention throughout. There were a number of interesting twists and spins to the story which worked really well to make the plot fresh. The surprises were lovely and I enjoyed not being sure how it would all work out.

There's a pleasing cadence to Pine’s writing style, just a quick example:

”The low hubbub of tipsy tourists clawing their way along the walls back to their rooms sounded far away, on other floors. Everything was otherwise as peaceful and still as 1 a.m. ever was, anywhere.”

Isn’t that nice? The author has a unique and fresh way of phrasing things which drew me in, and before I knew it I was almost at the end of the story.

A good part of the book is about the relationships Presley has with the supporting characters. These guys all have their own stories going on which were interesting and left me wanting more (if they don’t already, maybe Rico and Earle will get their own book?). I also liked the way the step-dad is described and then maintains his place in the background… that worked really well. It’s clear Pine knows these characters really well.

Just as an aside, I love it when a book starts out with some really hot sex and then grows the story from there - it’s one of my favorite tropes and Cinderella in the Sheets totally pulls it off.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a quick moving, creative, low-angst romance. It is well written and I’m looking forward to reading more by Reece Pine.

A fun caper (of a kind) of a story. I liked the characters, I would've loved to learn more about Louis but given the plot I get why that wasn't possible. There was enough to still appreciate him. I feel like I don't really know that much about Presley. Plot wise there's a lot of vague-ry. For a book set in politics, I'm not sure Presley's stand, or his step-father's stand, or why they're so estranged (I can guess but I would've like more detail or fleshing out.). I also felt like I was playing catch up at times. Things would be referenced and it'd surprise me and I'd have to go back and see if I missed something, but I hadn't. The side characters are great, I liked Rico and Earle. If you suspend disbelief and just go along for the ride, it's a fun romp.

Presley is the stepson of the President of the U.S. and the most hated man in office. He, himself, doesn’t like the guy and being associated with his evil stepfather has made it difficult with his activist work and his own reputation. On a particularly stressful work day Presley decides to indulge in an anonymous escort service hookup. He blindfolds himself because it “helps to hide his identity”. But this hookup is different from his other ones he’s had and when it’s over he finds himself hung up on his faceless one-night stand; with the aid of his secret service bodyguards tracking the guy shouldn’t be so hard except for the teeny tiny fact that Presley can’t give a very good description of the guy because he hasn’t seen his face and no one knows the special guy’s name, number, location or occupation.

It was a fun read and more humorous than I thought it would be. Presley’s entourage was intriguing and the camaraderie and ease they all interacted with spoke of the characters love and care for each other. I enjoyed the journey of witnessing Presley’s foray into his first serious love relationship. It was an interesting and unique modern take on a classic fairy tale.

I had fun reading this book. There are, of course, parallels to the fairy tale that is the namesake of this book’s title. But I particularly liked how, of all the themes available to play with in the fairy tale, a main focus in this book is on the hunt to find Presley’s mystery man, similarly to how the prince had to locate Cinderella. It made for some sleuthing, some opportunities to get to know the secondary characters, some humor, and a lot of pleasant anticipation. I wondered what the blindfold on the cover was all about. Let me just say, the removal of the sense of sight, blue silk, and an electronic game all came together to create some interactions between Presley and his mystery man that had my rapt attention. Almost like I was blindfolded, too. The book wrapped up a little fast, which is the only criticism I really had. This book created rich mental pictures for me, through Presley’s point if view and his interactions, of not only his escort, but his life and occupation. I was so excited when I first read the book blurb! I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but I knew I wanted to read this! However, I didn't love this as much as I thought I would. The beginning drew me in immediately, but the middle dragged. Unfortunately, Presley spends the majority of the story searching for his mystery man. Once he finds him, we get very little interaction before it's over. The epilogue was great considering the circumstances, but overall, I wish it was longer once Presley and the mystery man are reunited.

We All Keep Secrets

Politicians are infamous for hiding themselves in plain sight. Lies are considered the bread and butter of politics which means reading about the 'Snake-Charmer' stepson of the President of the USA hiding his sexuality behind anonymous hookups with escorts wasn't too far-fetched to me. I was surprised by how much I empathized with Presley regarding his desire to simply be allowed to be himself and how quickly I fell for his Mystery Date.

Presley is earnest with a desire to do whatever he can to help those without a voice be heard. He's not some privileged kid who wants to speak up for those who aren't [insert derogatory/disparaging remark here] than him because he feels entitled to do it. Presley seems to feel a real drive to speak up, speak out, speak to anyone who'll listen because he loved learning and he loves doing all he can with what he's aware he's been lucky to be given.

It's nice to read about a privileged guy who knows how lucky he is without being unrealistically humble over everything.

Louis was a nice surprise since I was half-hoping he'd turn out to be someone wildly inappropriate only to find I liked his real reveal much more. I loved his story, his truth, and his award was very well-deserved. I only wish someone was winning the award for that exact reason now in the world we do live in.

Overall, Cinderella in the Sheets was a surprisingly sweet short with a lot of heart to go with the heaps of heat it had to base itself on. I can't wait to read more from Reece Pine. I originally received my copy free from the Don't Buy My Love review program on the M/M Romance Group on GoodReads, but I loved the story enough I bought my own copy for my permanent library.

Cinderella in the Sheets is a story about Presley, the step-son of the American president, who is in the closet - as it tends to be in these types of stories. Since it is so difficult to find someone safe to sleep with, Presley has relied on the skills of his secret service team to find him casual hookups while he on the road, buttering up politicians.

All this goes fine until he falls in serious like with one of the guys he hooked up with and uses all of his advantages to try and find the mystery guy.

This book was adorable. Yes, it is very quick and the insta-love is something that I wasn't completely sold on, but it fit with the Cinderella plot formation. Presley as a character was a little too childish for my taste. As a 24 year old he should have had some more say in the way his life was run - and you do see that backbone developing towards the end, but there just wasn't enough. That was partially why I took off half a star from my rating.

Then there was Louis. He was sweet. I think that is all that I could describe him as. There was very little dimension to his character overall, but for such a short book, I overlooked it. Had this been longer, I may have docked another star because the guy left no impression on me by the end.

Overall, Cinderella in the Sheets was a cute, quick read that if you have an afternoon to kill would be worth picking up. And even though I don't think I would reread this particular story, I would like to read more of Pine's work to give her another go.

Final notes:
- Told in third person POV
- Takes place over a few days [not including the epilogue]
- Mistaken/secret identity
- Closeted characters
- The side characters are pretty interesting

Presley, the stepson of the United States President has his Secret Service detail get him the occasional escort for the night. One night, the escort turns up and Presley has a rapport with him and wants to see him again.

I did enjoy this story. I did think the guys were a little too insta love. One night and then they seemed to embark on a full on relationship.

I really liked Rico and Earle. To me their story was more interesting than Presley and trying to find his man. I do hope the author writes their story.
All in all a super, short little book. A nice way to pass a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Synopsis: Presley is the stepson of the sitting President and has to walk the straight an narrow. He wants to go in to politics himself someday, and spends much of his time crisscrossing the country in order to get people on his side.
One night, after a particularly hard day, Presley does what he normally does when he gets stressed and gets one of his Secret Service agents to get him an escort. Instead of just getting down to business, this escort brings food and insists that they eat before they engage in anything extra-curricular. The result is a night that is spent talking and getting to know one another, as well as spectacular sex.
When the man leaves the next morning, Presley wants to find him, and the search is on.

What I liked: the writing style. There is something unique about it; it doesn't quite read like anything else out there right now. I liked the chemistry between the escort and Presley, as well as the chemistry/friendships between Presley and his agents. I liked that Presley was concerned and involved with trying to make things better for people who didn't necessarily share his interests, and that he also realized that he actually had to let people fight for themselves instead of doing it all for them. I really liked the premise, however...

What I didn't like: how vague everything about the politics was. What exactly did Presley's stepfather stand for that was evil? What made Presley good? Why couldn't Presley go off the straight and narrow since his father left him a very rich person? Why did Presley have to exchange favours when he wasn't even part of a party or anything, and had no immediate plans of running? I didn't like that we didn't get to see a lot of Presley and the escort together. And how unprofessional the agents were, especially since they had all held jobs of high responsibilities before they became agents. This felt more like an outline...or a really long prologue to an interesting book. It would have been interesting to see things from the Louis' POV, and it could have been done in such a way as to not give away who or what was going on with him.

Overall impression: this is the second book that I've read by this author, and they are completely different styles. I'm interested to see what the author comes up with next.

I am going to be completely honest here and say that I did and did not like this book. I will also say that once I finished it, I did find it funny after the fact but while reading it I kept thinking....seriously. So yeah there you have it.

As far as the name of this goes, I truly do not know where it comes into play with the book itself. It seems to be an odd title for this book but I guess the name will leave an impact all on its own.

Presley is the step son of the president and even though he does not care for his step father and what he represents, he still has to have secret service with him just because of who his step father is. From what I gather, Presley spends his time going around and convincing others with power and prestige to have the same views as Presley does. But again I am not too clear on that. Maybe I just missed it though I do not know how.

What I do understand about this book is even though Presley does not agree with his step father he still tried to not let out the fact that he is gay. In doing so he used prostitutes for when he needed companionship. When one night he meets the man he wants to get to know even better but could not tell anyone what he looks like because of having worn a mask so he could not identify the person, this is when his secret service gets involved.

The lengths his secret service goes through and the things that they believe, like maybe the mystery man is a spy or worse is why ended up making this book funny in the end.

This is one of those books that I say you have to read for yourself to decide if you like it or not. I am on the fence as to whether it is a good book or not. So my advice is read it for yourself and make the decision based off what you read. Not based off my or anyone else's opinion.

Presley has a high profile, political life and also has physical needs. One of his secret service security detail helps him out by arranging ‘escorts’ for Presley when the need *ahem* arises. In order to maintain his anonymity (such as it is) Presley wears a blindfold to cover some of his face. Of course this poses problems when he wants to find the guy that gave him an unforgettable night…

Fortunately, Presley’s team are loyal and committed to project get-presley-a-boyfriend, and they are prepared to push the boundaries and use any surveillance available to them to track down Presley’s guy. With sometimes hilarious outcomes!

I quite liked Presley form the start, although I’m not very political, I could certainly appreciate the evil stepfather is president of the USA , and that Presley travels far and wide to persuade influential people away from the dark side! I also really liked Presley’s date. That he brought Presley dinner and clearly liked him was nice from he outset, that he had secrets too was intriguing.

What I really loved, was Presley’s security detail. They were super! Earle trying to keep his rage enclosed when he discovered the risks Presley had taken was fabulous, and the scene with the hazmat suits was superb.

Of course this story had a HEA, and it was a good one too. Nicely written, good dialogue and an interesting premise mad this a quick read I really enjoyed.

2.25 stars. All in all, this was a mildly entertaining but not standout read.

What I liked: the first date/sex scene part was good. I liked the contrast between what Presley expected and what actually happened. Supporting characters were, on the whole, very interesting even if Rico got on my nerves. I liked Presley as a character.

What I didn't like: I spent the first part of the book playing catch-up, which really distracted from the overall experience. What exactly is Presley doing in his political travels? What's up with the evil President Stepdad? A bit more background information earlier on would've gone a long way in this story.
There was also a bit in the middle of the story where
they end up on a wild goose chase looking for the guy and get the wrong person
which I felt was kind of useless. It didn't really advance the story very much, except to show how questionably far the Secret Service is willing to abuse their power for Presley's personal gain. (A pet peeve of mine.)
Very insta-lovey at the end. Most of the book wasn't really romantic, so what we got was crammed into the beginning and end.

Overall, the book was okay, nothing special.

It’s fair to say I’ve read my fair share of love stories. It’s also fair to say, that I have never read any of Reece’s work before, nor have I ever read a love story where the two main characters are both male.

This book promised to have it all………

Unfortunately, and remember this is just my opinion, it fell a little short. It’s your typical story of one meeting a stranger and having the best night of your life. When morning comes around, you’re eager to find said stranger, even if it’s to return something they left in your hotel room.

There was plenty of political references, as well as technological terms that, for me, someone who isn’t remotely interested in either topics, ended up being a whole lot of mumbo jumbo!!!!!

While the bones of this story are good, I was let down by the predictive storyline.

While others may disagree with me, I’m sorry, but this book was just not for me.

I loved the blurb and was excited to read this one. It sounded interesting and needed a little comedy in my life. I have to say that I struggle with this book . It just didn't grab me. I just wasn't interested in the main character getting his happy ending. I was more happy with the side characters getting a happy ending. I thought the whole first meet up scene lasted to long and have to say I was bored and wanted not finish this book. It does pick for me in the middle. I love the banter between the Secret agents and MC. But it fizzed for me when the MC and blind hookup interacted with each other. It was too intense to be believed. I may have pick this book at the wrong time. Overall, it is a good book but not for me.

I can’t rave enough about this story, Cinderella in the sheets by Reece Pine. From the very beginning, I was entertained and rooting for the main character, Presley. The premise of him being blindfolded during his rendezvous was intriguing. Was it more privacy or more about the kink intrigue me. The story moved at a nice pace and I really liked the secondary characters. The lengths Presley went to in order to find his true was heartwarming. It read like the stories I used to read in my youth. Would like to get Earle and Rico’s story next! A copy of the story was provided in Exchange for an honest review.

This book was just okay for me. Their was VERY little character depth and a lot of generalizations. I loved the title but Presley wasn't much of a Cinderella character. He's rich, entitled and although he has an evil stepdad (who is the President) we don't really know anything about the stepdad except that he's republican. (I guess that's what makes him evil? We never hear/see anything evil that he does so we just have to take Presley's word for it). The two MCs spend very little time together in this book so the romance just didn't hook me either. Overall just an okay read.

I thought this story started out really well and loved the connection between Presley and Louis. However I felt that it quickly spiraled out of control. The crazy search for Louis and Rico’s use of Grinder just put the story on a different path than I expected.

I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Louis we didn’t actually see enough to really get to know him. Presley did a lot of talking in circles, which really makes sense since he did the whole politics thing, but it made it hard to really know him. I don’t know but this didn’t work for me and I felt like I was bouncing around.

Presley's dad is President of the United States and although Dad is a dyed in the wool conservative, Pres is fighting his own nation-wide counter culture campaign. So what would it hurt if Pres is looking to take the edge off with a paid escort while blindfolded? Turns out plenty when he falls for the guy whose face he never gets a good look at.

I was a newcomer to NYC in the early Reagan years and still recall seeing a unit of dark suited guards securing the "first son" in locations in which they not normally be caught dead. Times have moved on since then but when I read the description of this book I found I was still curious.

While the premise here was interesting and the private scenes were hot enough, the public set-up was a bit muddled and didn't add what I was looking for to the overall work. The main characters were never given enough detail for me to fully appreciate their viewpoints and I found myself actually more interested in the story between two of the supporting characters.

Perhaps recalling seeing Ron Jr. dancing in his skivvies in a mock-up of the oval office gave me unduly high expectations, but this book never quite lived up to what I was hoping for. It's a pleasant read and certainly well crafted for the most part but it left me a bit unsatisfied.
