People kill for many reasons, some of them understandable, but others are totally unfathomable. However, more gruesome than killing by usual means like stabbing, shooting or poisoning, is the act of butchery after the murder.

The motives for murder and serial killing, according to psychologists, range from thrill seeking and anger to attention seeking and financial gain. Although it might seem sickening, these killers and psychopaths exist in the past and the present time, and some of them still have their freedom and are lurking in different corners of the world.

Mutilating, dismembering, slaughtering and, even worse, eating a fellow human is beyond reason; an act that is horrific and probably not the work of a sane individual.

This book lists the most disgusting and disconcerting crimes in history: various stories of strange serial killers who chopped up, violated, cooked, and ate their victims.

From real-life vampires and werewolves who drank blood and ate raw human flesh, to butcher killers who mutilate, sexually abuse, chop and eat their victims for reasons of Satanism, sexual gratification and revenge upon society.

This book is jam-packed with mystery, gore and unbelievable true stories of serial killers.

A great direct-to-the-point book!
I don't see why people like books with one million details if the facts can just be described simply and effectively...

A short description of ten crimes whereby the killer or killers have dismembered and in many cases, cannabilised their victims. One chapter ends mid sentence which is frustrating for the reader and is simply down to poor editing on behalf of the publisher.

Not bad for a free Kindle read but there are much better books on the subject than this.

I found this book downloaded on my kindle so I must have gotten it at some point for some reason, but it was ok. Things spelled wrong, not the same structure for each chapter, a lack of “why” when writing some of the factual evidence. A quick read, but not really worth it.

I've read quite a few books like this and frankly this one was poor. It was far too brief, written as if fewer words are better than substance. It reminded me of being given a subject to learn at school and you just reel off the main facts that you remember with no real passion or excitement. Not great

Includes some new and rarely mentioned killers

I appreciate that the author presented cases that rarely get attention. The organization of the book provided a means for the same kind of information to be shared for each one, tho it's understandable that not every case would have as much history available in every category. However, I found a couple of facts that disagreed with the way they are presented in every other source without discussing why, which makes me question the research.
What I began to wonder was, is it poor word choice causing double meanings? For example, the author keeps saying the killers were or were not found "solely" responsible for their crimes, implying there might have been other people involved, when he means to say "wholly" responsible, due to mental illness or defect.
Words matter, in writing and in crime:)

I have given this one star, not because the actual content was bad - it was fairly interesting, but because of the way it was written. The writing jumped all over the place, often repeating itself. Often it resorted to one sentence bullet points.
The stories behind each of the ten murderers is potentially quite interesting but the format of how this book has been written really fails them and makes it difficult to read.

Tired of having your true crime sugarcoated ?

Cannibalism is a long-standing taboo in the civilized world, although it is still practiced in isolated parts of the world. This book contains several cases of cannibalism committed by apparently mentally unbalanced people in civilization.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy-to-read book about serial killers that mutilate their victims, then this is the book for you. If you’re looking for a book whose title matches exactly what you’re going to read, then this is the book for you. I left with more questions than answers but the questions are unanswerable to begin with. Overall, this book is simple and to the point.

I love reading about Serial Killers. To try and work out what goes on in the mind of a serial killer.

However; this felt like I was reading a High School students essay- and not a very good one at that.

I only downloaded it because it was free & I wanted something short to read - I didn’t think it was particularly well written and it wasn’t very in depth, which some people would probably appreciate but to me, it felt more like an essay for school rather than a well written, well researched book.

With that extreme long title of this book, you already know whats in it. It says these are crime 'stories', but I feel this is more of a case study. Every chapter has sections like Early life, Modus Operandi, Trial, etc. It was informative. But definitely this is not for everyone. Good for someone who likes this Crime-Nonfiction genre.

Messed up in a interesting way

Very thought provoking. If you are into horrific true crime, you will love this horror show of a book. Lots of facts and a lot of detail. I enjoyed it but I am a bit morbid.

disappointing

Whilst some of the subject matter is interesting the style of writing is very disappointing, I feel the author could have put more into it. Unfortunately it reads as flat as a shopping list. 😞

The book was a short one. I liked how the author got right to the facts and explored killers from around the world. But I didn’t like the conclusion. It sounded like something a high schooler would have written for their literature paper. Overall it was alright for a quick read.

Good read

Gruesome but good. A detailed insight into the more macabre side of murder. I enjoyed it very much. Totally recommend

Écriture assez pauvre qui rend ces histoires de serial killers peu intéressante. Utile comme petite lecture rapide entre deux gros ouvrages ou s'entraîner à lire en anglais pour les non anglophones.

Half of these weren't even serial killers. What a disappointment.
