They look to her for salvation. From a man she can't defeat.
Tara's already fought the Prezedant once. And lost....
But that was before.
Before she knew who she really was.
Before she saw so many people believe in her.
Before an army was raised on her behalf.
But even that won't be enough now.
With their plans soon in disarray and the Prezedant hungry for her blood, Tara must choose between giving him what he wants, or losing her kin.
The stage is set for the final showdown. In the heart of the Prezedant's city the fate of Tara, her kin, and the world will be decided.
Don't miss the conclusion to this thrilling New Bloods series by USA Today best-selling author Michelle Bryan. If you enjoy fast-paced action, with high drama and a touch of romance, this series will keep you turning the pages long into the night.
Michelle Bryan is by far my most favourite dystopian/pot apocalyptic author, and this series was one of the first indie books I read.
So it comes to a bittersweet end for me as this series is over. There will be no more Tara, no more jax, and no more talkin’ like I ain’t know a thing about english after I finish the book. (Guess I can always reread!!)
Jax is his perfect self, and damn I’ll miss him.
The last instalment is full of action, love, tragedy, and cunningness and it couldn’t have ended on a more perfect note. Except maybe if it said more coming! Haha
“Annihilation” the nonstop thrilling and action-packed conclusion to the “New Bloods” trilogy opens with a hunting expedition to the sand lands and Tara’s rescue of a village threatened by the Army sent to collect the Prezedant's taxes. Driving the Army “veacal” back to the Resistance sanctuary after the violent confrontation an idea sparks Tara’s suggestion to steal all the Prezedant’s vehicles collecting food for Skytown to starve the army. With Busher and his rebels sent out on this vital mission, Jax returns to Gray Valley to check on his village and enlist their help in the fight, while she and Mack travel to the out lands to ask the muties to join her gathering force.
And so, the stage is set for a final showdown with the Prezedant as Tara’s chi escalates after a journey of enlightenment, her army gathers, and a battle looms that will have her losing a friend and making a sacrifice she may never recover from.
In the well-written, smoothly paced conclusion to an intoxicating story, the tension builds as Tara uncovers information about the origin of the New Bloods, the rise of the Prezedant and how her mother and father met. Intensity and suspense escalates with Tara’s agreement to drink an herb that will take her on a trip of enlightenment to strengthen her chi; her hesitation when faced with killing the Prezedant in an encounter in the mountains; and his proposal to release her captured loved ones if she gives him what he wants.
Yet in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty the rising threat and growing violence is often deflated with a spark of humor as her friends wager when she and Jax will kiss, or with Ben’s ignorance of Belle’s crush. Even the romance intensifies between Tara and Jax as he declares his love for her, knowing it means breaking his commitment to Sky.
Breathing life into the plot is a determined, fearless and brave Tara whose growing power promises hope for the oppressed and freedom from years of torment, and persecution while Jax has become her support and calming influence in times of trouble. Yet its Max, the Prezedant who adds a terrifying chill with his hunger for power and position, his self-absorption and arrogance, as well as his cold cruelty.
Weaving together the final threads of this riveting saga, Michelle Bryan has created a page-turner you can’t put down until finished. I thoroughly enjoyed “Annihilation” and can’t wait to see what the author has next for her fans.
I want to start off by saying that the book is pretty good. It's well written, interesting, engaging, and does keep the reader wanting to know more. However, the main problem I see that this follows a very similar plot line to Blood Red Road. I don't know if that was the intention of the author, but it did give me a "Been there, did that," kind of feel to the story. I'm not going to point out the similarities of both novels. I think in order for someone to give this an honest rating you would have to read it yourself and see. I will be reading the rest of the trilogy because I still like the story line and the characters.
It's been a while since I started this series, and I'm sad to see it end. Tara is one of my favorite fictional characters ever, and while it's true that all good things come to an end, I'm happy that this series got the conclusion that it deserved.
I got so attached to all the characters - Tara, Jax, Finn, even Cat. Tara's backwoods accent has, from the beginning, made her very endearing, giving her an innocence and vulnerability that contrasts so sharply with just how freakin' powerful she is. When she takes on the evil Prezedant (is it wrong that I pictured him with Trump's face?), I had to wonder whether she would be able to survive. Without giving spoilers, I'll just say it ended the way I wanted it to.
I love this author's work, and I would recommend it to anyone.
I received an eARC of this book from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.
What an end to a pulse-pounding series!Annihilation by Michelle Bryan is the final book in the New Bloods Trilogy and I have to say I’m sad to see it end. I love this series so much! Picking up just a few weeks after the end of Ascension, Tara is training like she never has before. Learning to use her New Blood abilities Tara is ready to put an end to the Prezedant’s rule once and for all.
I loved Tara in this book! She has come so far as a character since Awaken. In the first book, Tara was determined to find her family and return to the sand lands. Now she’s determined to protect her family and friends no matter the cost. She was untrusting of outsiders and now she’s become a symbol of hope. She is still unconfident and I find that endearing. After everything she has done and survived, she still doubts herself and her abilities. It’s learning to trust her friends that helps to build her confidence. This gradual progression is done wonderfully thought out the series and I loved seeing it culminate here.
Jax ♥︎ Oh Jax! Before I started this book, I decided to reread the previous two and I have to say I’d forgotten just how antagonistic he was towards Tara in the beginning. But it is so easy to recognize his antagonism for what it is: a crush. He would follow her to the ends of the earth and I love how easy that is to pick up for the reader yet so hard for Tara to see. He pushes her and makes her a better person. Isn’t that what we all want in our significant other and friends?
Then there’s Max, the Prezedant. I honestly loved how he is portrayed. He was the big bad throughout the series, never really encountered until the end of the last book. And now he is present, the ever-looming threat above Tara and her friends. He creates a rather intriguing sense of impending doom just at the mention of his name. But he is just a man, albeit a powerful man. I loved how he is brought into the story and such a big driving force of the plot.
The plot of the book is actually fairly simple: kill the prezedant. The playing out of the plot however takes Tara and her friends all over her small corner of the world. I loved it! I loved the answers to all the questions that have been plaguing me since the series began: what happened to the world? what/who created New Bloods? how did the prezedant come into power? It’s all answered and I was left with no questions by the end. I wanted more but that’s just because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters.
Overall I loved Annihilation. I wasn’t ready to see these characters’ ending but it is fantastic and well done. Michelle Bryan has created an unputdownable story in her New Bloods Trilogy. Tara and Jax, Finn, Ben, Tater, all of them have become so dear that I read with bated breath afraid at every turn of the page that I’d be forced to say goodbye. It was perfection! I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoy YA dystopias, however if you haven’t started the series, it is a must that you read these in order. Otherwise you will be lost. Start with Awaken, continue with Ascension, and finish with Annihilation. It will not disappoint!
O.M.G If you haven't started this series yet, do so now!! I have been reading this series since it first started, and while I am sad to see it coming to an end I am excited to have the final book in the set! Tara, oh Michelle has put her through so much from the very first page of book one, straight to the last of this one! The character development from start to finish will have you feeling like you actually KNOW these people in her book, and will have you feeling for Tara from start to end. The book will not allow you to put it down until you get to the very end, but fear not! You can always start it all over again!!
Michelle is an awesome writer, and I am so glad she is writing these powerful kick ass women characters (see Strain of Resistance series if you haven't already). Tara is the first and I am sure she will be introducing us to many more with the end of this series!
Oh Gosh, this was so good. I've been waiting for a finale to this series for a while and it was perfect. Tara is such a bad ass while still holding onto the endearing qualities we love her for. Jax is just as perfect as ever. Seriously, he's my favorite book boyfriend.
In this final book, Tara and crew go up against the Prezedant more than once in these epic battle scenes. All the marginalized people band together to fight against evil and I just love that. Michelle Bryan is one of my favorite authors because she's just so freaking good at excitement. She has us flipping through pages so fast its unreal because the pace speeds up and slows expertly.
I'm so sad this series is over, but so happy I finally have this book.
This series was filled with nonstop action, heartache, strife, and unconditional love. The weak rose up to take back the land from the oppressive tyrant of a ruler. The author is truly gifted and I gobbled up these books one after the other. Each of the characters found a place in my heart and I’m almost sad to see them go. If you have not read this book, you should. If someone were to give it less than five stars then they must’ve read it with their eyes and heart closed. Thank you to the author for putting the entire series on Kindle Unlimited. I plan to read everything she’s written now since I loved this series so much!!
I’ve loved every book in the New Blood Trilogy and couldn’t wait to read the final instalment. From start to finish Annihilation didn’t disappoint!
With so many characters to love it’s hard to choose a favourite, but Tara’s attitude, strength and let’s not forget her accent, make it impossible not to root for her the whole way through.
Annihilation wraps up the series perfectly, with more than one epic battle scene to keep you on the edge of your seat and Tara growing into the person she’s meant to be.
So sad to see this series end but I loved every minute of the ride!
This is one of the better book series I have read in some time. I loved all of the characters and wished the story could go on and on. Tara is something else and at first I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to continue reading or not but am sure glad I stuck with it. The story really pulls you into it and I gladly will recommend this whole series to everyone! It is well worth the read!
An awesome conclusion to a great trilogy. This book ties all the loose ends together. An amazing book by an amazing author. I will miss this story, it is by far the best dystopian series I have read.
The story definitely improved in this last installment, and the characters improved as well. The main character, Tara showed the most growth of all. She's became a true hero instead of the stubborn and self absorbed brat. I think the Author also made her come off as too simple minded with repeated phrases like "mule turd" and implied accent. I kept waiting for a banjo to start playing. Things changed for Tara once she accepted Enlightenment. Her language didn't change, but the Author threw in a few more brain cells. The other characters became family, and that family became the start of her Army. A lot happened in this last installment. If you made it thru the first couple books, you deserve to read the ending. Best book of the 3. I give the series a 3 or 3 1/2
A fantastic conclusion to a great series. Full of wonderful dialogue and characters and twists and turns, Michelle Bryan delivered. I recommend this to readers looking for a truly original dystopian series with outstanding world building and a heroine you can really get behind.
