Wallace, Kansas - 1890
Young and beautiful Carrie Nelson is on her way westward to marry a young rancher in California when she is handed an advertisement flyer for a “waiter-girl” position in Wallace, Kansas. No longer content to move to California and just be a housewife in an unknown land, she decides to change plans and to apply for the position. She begins to work for the Stewart House restaurant, quickly making some wonderful new friends including the shy Annie and the wise Rita.
When handsome and charming coach driver Leeroy Jackson befriends her, Carrie grapples with thoughts of marriage again. She is unsure at first, but with the support of her waitress friends, all that’s left is for her to say “yes.”
Is it worth it for her to break her contract at the Stewart House and give up on her newfound independence? Is it possible that Mr. Jackson could love her all the more for her independent spirit?
***This is the first story of the Stewart House Brides series. Each installment is a standalone clean historical Western romance novella of 20,000 words with an HEA and may be read in any order.***

Carrie was on her way to California to be a mail order bride. But when she stops in Wallace she decides she is going to work at Stewart House as waitress.
Leeroy Jackson, the coach driver that takes Carrie over to Stewart House takes shine to her but Carrie has just signed a year contact to work at Stewart house and she can’t marry or have any obligations.
Leeroy saves Carrie from a rude made in the restaurant one day and Carrie starts to see he is more than a friend. Can she give up and love him or keep her contract?
Loved these two characters Leeroy did not push and Carrie held out as long as she could. It was nice too see this perspective of mail order brides.
This is a nice, short, clean historical romance. Carrie Nelson is going west after accepting an ad for a mail order bride. When her train stops over in Kansas she is given a news ad for a local job at a local restaurant. She decides she really doesn't want to continue on to California and takes a wagon ride from Leeroy Jackson to the restaurant for an interview. Wonderful characters, and enjoyable story. Can be a standalone story.
My honest rating is 2.5 stars. It's a sweet story but lacks depth. There was little character development casting them as one-dimensional. Good grief, the main characters have all of four conversations, two of which are extremely brief. How is the reader supposed to believe there is any sort of connection, much less romance, between them if they have such a flimsy connection?
