Time may heal all wounds, but only love conquers all.
Danny McEwan is a hotshot Alpha just weeks away from his chance at impressing a scout for the National Hockey League. His talent, grit, and years of hard work all but ensure that he'll be called up to the big leagues. His worst fears are realized when a horrible accident destroys his dreams and his future. Unable to face the pity of loved ones, he finds his new best friend in a fifth of whisky. And nothing, not even a snarky (and hot as hell) physiotherapist is going to tear that bottle out of his hand.
Omega Brad Timmins left his east-coast life behind when he settled in Shale River for work. Life away from his family has been rough, and a forbidden attraction to one of his clients isn't helping. Danny's muscled form is hard to ignore, but it's the haunted look in his eyes that claws at Brad's heart. It’s not just Danny’s gorgeous body that needs a healing touch.
Brad’s smart mouth keeps Danny on his toes, but he still struggles to overcome his demons. Will Danny return to his hard-partying ways? Or can Brad – and an unexpected pregnancy – heal the broken man’s wounded heart?
Set in the prairie town of Shale River, this non-shifter MPreg is a 60,000-word full-length novel with no cliffhanger. It contains an enemies-to-lovers story line, steamy scenes between an Alpha/Omega couple, pregnancy risk, filthy language, romantic secrets, and handsome country gentlemen in cowboy hats and tight jeans working their hardest for a happy ending.
DNF. I started this book without checking my old reviews of this author. We aren’t really a good fit. Her books spend most of the time with the main characters misunderstanding each other’s actions. This is tiring and not enjoyable for me so I decided to call it quits at 50%.
I enjoyed this fast-paced story. My heart went out to Danny but at the same time I wanted to knock some sense into him. Brad is sweet and endearing. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and follow along on their journey. The author left me wanting more.
I'm excited to read an alpha/omega series set in Canada for a change of pace. I look forward to reading the other books. One stubborn injured alpha needing physiotherapy meets a determined omega physiotherapist and sparks fly. Alpha Danny was a NHL hopeful before an accident shattered his body and his dreams, so now he's bitter, angry, drowning his sorrows in drink with his buddy Guy, and lashing out at everyone around him, but especially all the physiotherapists who are trying to help him get back on his feet. None of them have been up to the challenge until a new omega physiotherapist arrives in town and takes on the ornery patient. Omega Brad has come to Shale River in the hopes of carving out a new life for himself, and takes on the cantankerous alpha. He just seems to have the magic touch when it comes to convincing Danny to cooperate in working towards healing enough to walk properly under his own power. I look forward to seeing how they move forwards from here.
Omega's Healing Hands by MacKenzie Wilde is the first book in the Shale River series. The series will be following Alpha Danny and Onega Brad in their journey together in love. They turn from "enemies" to lovers, an injured athlete and his physiotherapist.
Danny is sometimes an @$$, but that's pretty realistic when you have an athlete set for stardom, injured and facing his crumbling dreams. He is just trying to come to terms. Brad is understanding and funny, he helps Danny realize some things. I like their interactions. Their story is entertaining and well told. I cant wait to read more about them.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
When alpha Danny is severely injured in an accident, he not only faces a long recovery but he must try to deal with the fact that his whole life will change. And he doesn't do very well with it. Meeting a no nonsense omega physical therapist like Brad starts him on a rocky tumultuous course toward recovery of both his health and his future. Since this is a non-shifter mpreg story, it seems a bit strange that the characters talk about packs and refer to children as pups. Overall it is a good story with an HEA.
This was a sweet, poignant, engaging, grab-you-by-the-feels, sexy, intense, and emotional charged story about Danny, an injured Alpha obsessed with making the NHL, no matter what, and Brad, the Omega physiotherapist working with him after a terrible accident shattered Danny's leg. Watching as Danny and Brad first butt heads, then slowly become friends, and then lovers had me hooked from beginning to end. I must admit I wanted to pop a certain individual upside the head at first, but eventually started to change my mind. I recommend getting this gem ASAP.
Excellent characters. Well written and even surprised me of plot. Good job. lol. These genres sure make you look at men in a different like. But in our world hopefully men can choose to change or comprimise. Looking forward to next in the series.
So, I am new to the Shale Valley series. This was a nice slow novella that was full of anger, amusement, and personal changes. I found it to be slightly disengaging at times, but also did enjoy parts of the story and the dynamic between the characters.
This is my first outing in Shale Rivers and whilst I enjoyed the premise of the story, I can't say that I was fully engaged throughout and didn't feel the biggest of connections between the two MC's, Danny and Brad. Danny seemed to fall suddenly and quickly for the omega, and his accident and time in recovery was skipped over in the first few chapters so you really have to pay attention to the goings on throughout to pick out the details. I will carry on with the series to give it a chance and see what happens with the couple but as a stand alone I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review
I really don’t know how to review this book. I was confused from the start as to who’s point of view I was reading. I’m used to reading third person narrative but there was no definition on who you were reading they were mixed in every chapter.
I was really excited to read this too as I loved the storyline but it didn’t live up to my expectations. Maybe if it was fleshed out as a full length and the narrative defined it would be better.
I’ve not read the other books in the series so maybe if I had it would have helped as it seems to start right in the middle of a previous story.
This is my first bundle of books by the author Mackenzie McKenzie Wilde, but it will certainly not be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. The author kept me guessing and wanting to find out what would happen next. This is a story of Hubris. Icarus flying too close to the Sun. The consequences of being over ambitious. Warned not to fly too high, but also warned not to fly too low.
The Alpha in this book was arrogant, egotistical, self-aggrandizing, quick to anger, all attitude all the time, a show off, single-minded determination, obsessive, indignant, petulant, being short-tempered made him easy to rile up and hard to control his explosive rage.
Unfortunately experiencing intense physical pain exacerbated all the Alpha's negative qualities. But at times he could be surprisingly vulnerable, loosing his cockiness, subject to despair leading to the use of alcohol as a crutch. But he didn't always achieve the outcome he poured for.
The Omega MC was stronger than he looked, hopeful, experienced a strong mutual attraction with the Alpha, kind, sweet, 'filthy' nervous, lonely, patient guarded his heart, yet he yearned for someone special. He was great at his job, empathetic, frightened, caring, lonely, patient, shocked, stunned, confused, reason to be concerned, distraught, hurt, humiliated, and heartbroken.
These intense emotions experienced by both MCs made it a compelling book. There was a rawness to the emotions. The reader experienced them with the characters. Sometimes you saw what was coming while other times you didn't. There is power in words and Ms. Wilde used them to craft a modern tale of Icarus. This contemporary Icarus flew both too high and too low. He was always at extremes. Only the Omega seemed to balance him out or was that an illusion as well?
What do you do when your dream is shattered? Accept it? Or fight to make it a reality again? How do you cope with physical pain so daunting you can't even think straight? What if you only know one way to act? To make everyone around you as miserable as you are. The Alpha and Omega were opposites, yet something sweet and incredible happened when they met. But was it enough to overcome all that occurred? Was it enough to be able to deal with a very obstinate Alpha and a gun shy Omega with too much to lose?
I did like the book but for some portions of it. I understand that Danny went through a very traumatic incident that destroyed his NHL carrier. But the way he turned on Brad and all the nasty things he said was unforgivable and at that point I didn’t want Brad to forgive him and take him back. It did take a long time for the forgiveness to happen, but again I would have been okay if Brad had found someone else. But once Danny got over himself he did change for the better. The story still needed some editing. Also using alpha and omega in the same sentences as their names annoyed me. We know that Brad is an omega and that Danny is an alpha. You didn’t have to keep throwing that at us. Stick to one or the other, with the occasional alpha omega thrown in. But even with the issues I had with the book, it won’t stop me from continuing on when the next book is written.
