After years of suffering at the hands of her daughter's father, Mikina Monroe is longing for a different kind of attention; one that isn't so abusive. The emptiness that Redd inflicts on her makes her wonder, who else is out there for her. She stumbles upon Blyss Blakemore, otherwise known as Bebe, and immediately they begin a love affair that’s incredibly undeniable. Bebe coming into her life seemed to be what she needed. However, Bebe isn’t sure he has the patience for waiting in the shadows while Miki figures out what she wants to do. Will Miki get the strength to move on once Bebe give her an ultimatum or will she remain in the tumultuous relationship that she has become accustomed to? Never Trust a Broken Heart takes you on Miki’s emotional journey to healing. But will it all end leaving Bebe questioning if the old saying remains true, that you can never trust a broken heart?
Who could give this book anything less than 5 stars is crazy. It brought out so many emotions in me. I mean I felt mikia pain. And the end OMG I couldn't read it all at once I had to take a break!! Whhyyy did she go to the truck smh. Awesome book loved it. And I recommend this book to everyone.
5 ***** is not enough.... I have truly found my Pop-up new author find of this year.......Her writing is consistent and it had depth.... I love her style and her uniqueness she brings to each and every story. I love that that is a small tether in all her stories by one degree of separation of a character. I will say again if you have not read any of Ivy Symone work, please, please rectify that in the immediate future. Superb job once again Ms. Symone....
There are so many Women in the same situation as Mimi in an abusive relationship to scared to leave out of fear. Even when she got the courage to leave Redd to be with Bebe it was really too late because Redd wasn't going to let her go. I cried while reading this book because Ivy Symone made you feel like you knew the characters. I was so happy because Mimi finally found a true love, but cried like a baby about the ending. This happens too much in life. Once again Ivy Symone have captivated her readers.
This was such a good book. Not only was the story great but there was a huge lesson learned at the end of the book. Hopefully this book will help out many woman who are in the same situation before it's too late. 5 Star Book and I highly recommend this book
I swear Ivy knows how to break a person down and has yet to disappoint me. Miki had to experience things that so many face in real life. She put up with way more than she should've and tried sticking around and giving Redd a chance. I understood why everyone felt the need to not get involved because once placed in those situations, you never know if the person is truly done. Meeting Bebe was definitely a breath of fresh air and I liked him. He was a stand up guy and accepted Miki and Téa. No matter how hard he tried fighting his feelings he couldn't stay away. There were so many times I wish Miki would end Redd's life and be done so she could move on and without any excuses. Cyn was trying too hard and I didn't care to much for her. Kat was cool and found herself in a similar situation but moved on from it. Finally Miki got the courage to leave and decided enough was enough. I was so happy for her at the end only to be disappointed yet again. I had so many questions, the main one being why trust the one that has done everything in their power to break you as if they've actually changed. I felt so bad to Bebe! Why couldn't Redd just leave well enough alone and move on with someone else?! Typical dude with the if I can't have you no one can mentality. Loved Abe being thrown in the mix as well. It just goes to show that whenever faced with this type of problem, you can only hope the person involved is willing to know their worth and want better for themself before it's too late. In some cases you should never trust a broken hurt because the outcome may not be good at all.
here i was thinking I was reading a new book as I started to read I got the awful feeling like i read this storyline before...... This book is a re-release.
In this story you meet Mikina Bledsoe. From the outside looking in, you might think she has the perfect life. Nice house, car, doesn't have to work, a beautiful daughter, and a man who buys her everything she wants, but everything that glitters ain't gold. Life is nightmarish for Miki, and that nightmare comes in the form of the man who has been controlling her and abusing her for years, Redd. Life is really living hell for Miki, that is until she meets a slice of heaven, Mr. Blyss "Bebe" Blakemore. Bebe is everything that Redd isn't, and 10 times more a man. Bebe is very smitten with Miki, but can he really be with a woman he can't have all of? Is she worth the trouble? Will she leave before its too late? Can she leave the man who brings so much pain for the man who makes life worth living, and what will be the consequences? Follow this twisted tale of emotions, events, and a touch of reality. Things like this really happen. You literally had my emotions everywhere. I was sad, I laughed, I was happy, I cried. You did your thing Ivy, this book was great. Can't wait to read more from you.
This book RIGHT HERE, smh... honestly I was going to give it only 4 stars because I was so frustrated with the characters; however by the end it was definately a 5 star book. I myself will never be able to comprehend abrusive relationships, why people stay especially when children are involved but that is REAL LIFE stuff. Bebe a hard working man & father was so captivated by Miki a stay home mom who has been in an abusive relationship since high school. Miki finally let a little bit of her guard down to see if the grass is really greener on other side, but still holding onto DEAD grass baby daddy REDD. Yes Bebe and Miki fall in love but is the love strong enough for her to leave the man that has played with her mind, and physically beat on her for years. Also is the love strong enough for Bebe wait around for a women who is too scared to leave. This was a very emotional BUT real talk type of book. Ivy Symone is a BEAST with pen and paper.
This story was so deep...& sad...The abuse Miki suffered From Redd was devastating. It was good she met BeBe & was able to have a glimpse of happiness & true love....Ivy Simone did a great job writing the storyline & content--I could envision the scenes unfolding..Although the situation was unfortunate, Never Trust a Broken Heart was a great read that I highly recommend.
It took me awhile to read this book because I heard a spoiler and no longer wanted to read it. But I read it because it was a book for discussion. And wow. Even tho I knew how it would end I still shed a couple of tears. This book was very well written. Even tho this book didnt have the ideal ending, it was still a great book. Ivy you are awesome.
Mikina has been suffering for years dealing with her baby father. Yes she has the finer things in life and doesn't want for anything,at least not material things.Yet she is still looking for something that missing, Real love.Accepting things for what it is Mikina gives up on being happy until she meets Blyss aka Bebe. For Mikina being with bebe has shown her what true love is all about but her situation has her scared to trust again. Will she finally accept happiness or will this life burden her forever.
Wow this book was definitely an emotional page turner. I felt every emotion in this book. This is a must read for every women going through domestic violence. Trust your first instinct. Great job Ivy. Definitely an eye opener.
Reading about domestic violence is so hard. It can become very frustrating when we know it’s easier to just leave than to stay. But that’s not the case. Especially when kids are involved. This would’ve been a 5 star book had the writing been better. Very mid.
Miki being abused by her boyfriend Redd was hard to read. She met Blyss “Bebe” & they had an instant connection. I was a little bored at times reading. Almost DNF’d because I’m like ok is Miki going to leave or not. Well there was No HEA with this book 😩💔
There’s a book 2 to read about Bebe road to happiness. I don’t know if I care enough to see him find a new love 🤷🏽♀️ but I am making my through Ivy catalog so we’ll see lol
My notes:
Abe popped up. He’s cousins with Bebe! They co own the club together.
Starting this book I never thought I would have the feelings or emotions I am experiencing. Ivy ha giving me a little bit of everything in this book. I laughed, I cried, I yelled and even stopped reading at one point. Ivy has introduced you to Miki and Bebe and there love is one of a kind. One can only wish for a love like this. Is sad to say all is is not good love. Redd and Bebe love is a toxic love more like deception, control and deceit. At the end the only question that can be asked is can you trust a broken heart?
Excellent book! Nail biter. Had me in KNOTS wondering what would happen next! Lots of twists and turns. Love able characters. Great storyline & well written. I recommend this book & DEFINITELY THIS author!
*SPOILER* I honestly don’t understand how Miki could be so naïve. I don’t get why she stayed with Redd, and please don’t tell me it’s because she was abused or broken — she wasn’t even married to him. She was a side chick! So why was she so afraid of him? Her family and friends weren’t much help either; they seemed just as weak as she was.
Redd’s character didn’t make much sense to me at all. The part when Miki went back to get the rest of her clothes really frustrated me — if she was truly done with Redd, why not just leave the rest behind or bring Bebe with her for support? It’s like she loved Redd more than Bebe, her daughter, and even herself. When Redd went to jail and Miki was preparing for the wedding, I shouldn’t have been surprised that his family had her daughter with them. That just felt reckless — she basically put her daughter’s life in danger.
And the ending? The whole scene in the car only made me feel bad for Tea only. Why did Miki even go outside knowing Redd was there? It just didn’t make sense. It’s like she forgot what happened between them recently.
I’ve read all of Ivy Symone’s books, and this is the first one I’ve truly disliked. “Hate to Love You” had a similar concept but was written so much better. It made sense, it had emotional depth, and it actually pulled me in. “Never Trust a Broken Heart”, though, was written so poorly.
Check your triggers before reading. This book centers around domestic violence.
The same way you get them is the same way you lose them. I wish when Miki first saw Redd that she turned and went the opposite way. He was a married, much older man, and his lifestyle was dangerous. Predators are great at picking their prey, and with Miki being so young, it was too easy. After several years and many blows later, Miki has been molded into a fearful battered woman who's too afraid to leave, even with a child in the picture. One day, by chance, she meets BeBe, and there is an instant attraction. Their kids are already best friends, so it became easy to start a romance. Eventually, they started sneaking around so much that it's hard to walk away. Her actions and people gossiping start to Redd grow even more suspicious, even though he's out doing worse. BeBe grew tired of waiting, but he just couldn't turn his feelings off. Something traumatic happens that finally sets Miki's plan in motion, but she nearly loses her life in the process. Finally free of Redd, she and BeBe's relationship blossoms and flourishes, but sometimes when everything is going right, some wrong is sure to follow.
The first thing that stood out to me when it pertained to miki was her willingness to risk it all for things that didn't matter..... Her materialistic attitude also had me on edge. She risked it all for some dang clothes at one point and continued to make bad decisions from that point forward. I also had to side eye the ability for her abuser to get bond on a gun charge as a felon along with attempted murder.... I kept telling myself that this is only a book and that's what got me though the sad ending even though I was an emotional mess by the end. Although I sideyed the decision making of miki i found the horrific ending a realistic view of what can happen in a relationship plagued by domestic violence and I loved that although the ending tore me up I was grateful too the author for not sugar coating it... Somebody might need to read a not so HEA to make the moves needed to walk away from an unhealthy situation....
Miki was in a relationship with Redd since before she was old enough to be in the relationship with him. Of course in the beginning everything was peaches & cream until he started to show his true colors. She didn't really know any better so she stayed. For the money, clothes, etc. She didn't have anything but him, her daughter, the possessions he bought her & the beatings. Redd had other girls but she couldn't say anything. He was like a ticking time bomb. Then one day she met Bebe & she started to feel happy again. Miki wanted to leave Redd but thought it was impossible. She didn't think he would ever let her go. But Bebe made her happy & made her laugh & gave her hope that she could do something with her life besides sit around being a girlfriend. If you can take a little emotion in a story, I recommend this book. I was definitely in my feelings at the end. I wanted to go back a few pages & get a different ending but I liked the story. A lot. I was rooting for Miki the whole time.
I wish Redd wasn't such a POS. I wish Miki had never met Redd. I wish Bebe had never crossed paths with Miki and pursued her. I don't want to sound like I'm victim shaming or blaming Miki, but a lot of her choices were questionable. Why pursue a relationship with a man when you're already in an abusive relationship and scared to leave? All three of the adults were wrong in one way or another with Redd being the worst of course. Bebe was a great man who fell for a woman who was way too deep in situation that he ultimately couldn't save her from. Towards the end I had to pause because I just knew.....well I hoped Mini wasn't that stupid. Yes STUPID because if you've been a victim of domestic violence, got away, and been safe for a few months why would you trust the abuser at all? In the end the event that transpired can be blamed on Redd, but Miki's poor choice was a major factor.
Wow! Where can i start? I usually don't write review s but I had to chime in on this story. Mimi is a young girl who gets trapped with in a domestic abuse situation. She meet ya but who loves and cherished her, they begin their love story on the side. Mimi eventually decided a plan to leave Reds but was gullible st the end. I don't want to give too much away. Please read this book, if you know someone in an abusive relationship, advice them to leave now!!!
WOW this book had me so emotional. My heart is still hurting for Miki, Tea and Bebe. It's so easy to say why Miki didn't just leave but for those of us that have never dealt with domestic violence you never know what type of fear a person has and the dilemma they are faced with. I love that this book focused on an issue that so many women today are currently dealing with. I hope this book helps that woman who is dealing with domestic violence get the courage to leave before it's too late. Ivy Symone you've done it again with an amazing story.
