Didn’t love didn’t hate.

First I’d like to say, this is a well written story . I have no problem with that. And I can say up front I would recommend it.
That said despite all of that and how much I love Markie.
Markie is great despite her choice in men,we should all aspire to be such kind and giving ppl.
I didn’t like”Angel”. Not really.
Talk about an completely ironic nickname. He was anything but . Like calling a fat person “Slim” or a huge hulking guy
“Tiny”.
Now “Angel” has a conscience of sorts . He’s not a sadist and he doesn’t enjoy when he has to hurt ppl. That said he lives his life passively letting others determine his actions or often sadly his inactions .
I can’t respect Angelo here. At times he’s painted as most like a victim of his birth. This is who I am ,my beautiful life is really just my cage but why fight it.
Maybe ,maybe is he fighter it even a little ,if is father and family weren’t soo loving and kind towards him,if he were scared and beat down. If after a attempt to keep a decent but dim witted cop ( albeit half hearted ,he had to to know offering a stubborn but honest cop a bribe would only back fire , geez, who’s really dumb there ?) he didn’t later accept to dress up like a cop in the poorest of bad taste and joke and laugh w/family ,like he hadn’t watch said cop be gunned down. Knowing kids that night would be grieving because of him and not eating candy. I “might” have had different feelings for Angelo NOT Angel
But despite any slight twinges of guilt, or momentary stomach upset, he might encounter he goes along w/the maiming and killing as if free will is totally and completely absent from his life.
Walking from this wouldn’t not have been easy but the thought or even the idea isn’t really there.
What makes this worse is Angelo is rather wasted here. Sure he serves his family well but we can all see he’d be better off having his own company and creating tech that would make this world a better place . Instead he takes the path of least resistance to enjoy the perks of his life and keep his family .
Despite the guns and the hardware to me this guy is just a big poser and a coward His life is just a huge waste and Markie useless everything about her is a ginormous lie, deserves a 100% better then Angelo.
Honestly a true happy ending for her would have been getting amnesia from the brain surgery and running off back to Africa and the falling for a doctor in “ Doctors Without Borders “ or something.
Now that would have been a true HEA. This ? This is meh . At the most. Markie deserves better than banging out brats for a weak coward like Angelo to ruin w/more wasted blood 🩸 and violence. Seriously, how could a woman who’s started to dedicating her life to helping orphans, love a man who soo carelessly creates them and isn’t concerned about who he really is or does ?
This was also a let down after having read soo much of the “Dead Presidents” series. The first series about a MC that revolved around helping others and doing good . An MC that’s not about killing,or running drugs,or guns or something ?
I kept hoping like the MC , eventually we’d see some true good here other that the h but I was throughly disappointed.
I just don’t get it. Angelo isn’t a good guy abs he isn’t ashamed about that. He’s pretty good to Markie but that’s mainly it unless she’s asking him to act differently. Unlike those “dark” mafia “romances” where the guy seems like a cold 🥶 unfeeling B and is feared by all but secretly hates himself for it,Angelo doesn’t seem to. He just takes it in stride and looks the other way. The opposites his love interest . Good writing, decent story but disappointed w/the male lead and how story is done in that sense.

This is book two in the Mariani Crime Family series by Harley Stone. I was hesitant about reading book one, because usually Mafia books are a bit too hard core for me, but after finishing it, I could not wait to dive into this one. Both books appealed to the reader in me that loves a hard man with a soft side.

D'Angelo is the son of Dom and Annetta from book 1, Dom's Ascension. All grown up, and taking his place in the Family, he is both a tech geek and a bad boy rolled up into one super HOT package! Along with his best friend/body guard, Bones, he is going about his daily business, being a crime boss's son, when he runs into Markie. The attraction is instant, and he can't leave her alone, even though he knows he should. Markie and Angel both try very hard to stay away from each other, to hold themselves apart from each other, for different reasons.

Markie is an enigma. She is selfless, adventurous, and seems to have no fears. But even from the beginning, we could tell that she was hiding something. Given her personality, I didn't think there was any way it could be something bad, but when it came out, it shocked me! There is no other way to put it, and I have to admit, I had tears.

This book was much more emotional than the previous one. The last story relied on outside drama, whereas this one focused on a problem that was much closer to home. Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of scary Mob boss drama, but it wasn't the main focus. As a result, I feel much more for this story, and for Angel and Markie, than I did for the last one (Loved Dom's Ascension, but this one just......WOW!) Amazing is the only word that comes to mind!

What an amazing way to kick off the new year!!!! I usually avoid the Mafia genre. I always expect a lot of blood and guts and not much else. Boy, was I proven wrong with this book. I will admit that there was a bunch of killings, but it was almost a "fade to black" situation. I read that they happened but no grossing me out. YAY!!!!

I absorbed Making Angel. I was sucked into to the pages. I lost count of how many times steam came from my ears, how many times I wanted to scream “What the (you get the idea)” and how many times I wanted to scream Run, Angel, Run. So much sit on the edge of my seat excitement.

This is so much more than just a mafia book. There is a budding romance between Angel, heir to the Marianni Family and an unknown woman, Markie. She has just arrived in Vegas after volunteering at an orphanage in Africa. Her new mission-find her sister, Ari.

Actually her first mission—pizza. She might starve waiting for a table. Out of character, Angel asks her to join them. Dinner soon ends as duty calls Angel away. How could you not love a character that passes out the extra pizza to strangers in the airport. Angel felt safe in the fantasy of Markie, a woman he would never see again or could never have.

Fate throws them together again and again. Angel’s struggle tore at my heart. Markie’s secret had my mouth dropping, bringing tears I didn’t expect. I do not do the ugly cry well. I can't remember the last time I read such a complicated forbidden romance.

What would a mafia book be without threats, shootings, death, shady deals, and conspiracies? Don’t worry you will find them all in Making Angel. The traitor shocked me. The reason left me dumbfounded.

I wasn't sure if I would get a happily ever after. I wasn't sure how things were going to turn. I bit off a nail or five. I bit my lip. Loved all of the excitement. Loved the thrills and the suspense. The happy dance I did when I finished left my boys giggling and me smiling. Now I sit in anticipation of what comes next. Even better the second time around. LOVED IT!!!

♥️🌼🔥LOVE THIS BOOK♥️🌼🔥
MAKING ANGEL is book 2 of Harley Stone’s Mariani Crime Family Series, and it’s a good sequel...These are real mafioso...they aren’t afraid to get blood on their hands...and we still love them, because they seem more real to us...♥️🌼🔥
Angel and Markie know they couldn’t be more different....Angel is 100%, an unapologetically, above the law, made man....Markie is a sweet, criminal justice major and the daughter of two murdered cops and has just returned from a year of volunteering with orphanages in Africa.....that kind of different.....and, then, their chemistry enters the picture....and, then, you’ve got a good book....♥️🌼🔥

How Angel gets his wings

When you're the next in line to rule the top mafia family in Vegas, you don't have time for things like love. But when Angel meets the woman he can't stop thinking of, he starts wondering if he will live long enough to find out what true love feels like.

Harley Stone writes strong believable characters with heart and compassion. Don't miss out on this great read.

Jumping In

When Angel spots Markie at the airport he is immediately caught up on her but never expects to see her again. When they meet again while looking for someone that owes the family money he feels like it’s fate and can’t stay away despite Markie trying to push him away as well. But even Markie can’t resist Angel when she really doesn’t want to but she has a terrible secret that could end them in this wonderful read.

A must read

OMG! I loved this book. The characters are great; from D'Angelo himself, his best friend/bodyguard, his mother and grandmother, Markie who has a secret, and her sister. Being about a mafia family there is a small amount of violence but it's not guts and gore. Angel has a softer side to him just as Markie has a hidden strength. You won't be disappointed with this book.

Wasn't what I expected.

First time reading this author. Enjoyed the whole book. Read it in one setting. Expecting mob boss trying to own some girl but was not that at all. Great storyline, action, romance and a big surprise. If you enjoy strong females and hunky guys this books for you.

Good story.

Markie is string, compassionate and cares about people. She returns from helping orphans in Africa and meets Angel. Markie does adventurous things. Angel finds her quirkiness attractive. I like the characters. There are some very sad and moving moments in this story. Markie shows bravery in a very terrible situation.

So I loved book one of the Mariani Crime Family, book two was better! It has angst, drama, bumps, bruises, and lots of love. Angel will eventually make an excellent Don. This book is so well worth reading.

3,5 stars, nice mafia romance, not too dark, no angst or OW drama. I could appreciate the original angle of why she couldn't be with him.

While the book was well written with a decent plot the characters just weren’t doing it for me. I like my mafia men to be alpha holes and it just wasn’t hitting the spot. DNF at 53%.

Remember Dom and Annetta? Well their son is now grown and being groomed as the next in line. Before talking about Angel and Markie, I have to say how much I loved getting to see more of the life Dom and Annetta created. Still in love and their family has grown!

Angel's life is busy and really not his own - there's no time for things he may want, including love. I enjoyed the relationship between Bones and Angel - great pair. Markie has come to Vegas to try to find her sister who she lost contact with while she was in Africa. I have to admit, I never guessed what was going on with her. These two have an instant connection, but both fight it tooth and nail.

Overall a great read that kept me engaged from page one.
