Three young men meet in university and form a lifelong friendship. Their pasts dictate the men they are, but their present shapes their future.
What happens when these men meet the one person they are destined to be with? Can they fight their feelings and walk away? Or will they each succumb and learn the sweet agony of love?
Bentley The leader of the group. He is uptight, formal, and cold. Rigid and set in his ways, always following the same path. Until the day, he stumbles upon her. Emmy. She brings with her spontaneity and light. The world she lives in is so different from his, yet he cannot control the draw to her. Nor can he explain the way she makes him feel. Happy. Protective. Loved.
A bit about me: NYT/WSJ/USAT International bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of lots of lovely years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them. While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys travelling, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip. Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She's learned happily ever-afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.

Bentley is book one in the Vested Interest series by Melanie Moreland. I have read two later books in this series, Van and Halton. I loved them so much that I had to go back and start at the beginning.
Bentley Ridge is thirty two years old, lives in Toronto and along with his two best friends, owns his own property development business called BAM. Looking from the outside in, it would seem that Bentley has everything, wealth, a successful business, a beautiful home. But when his day is over, he goes home alone to an empty house.
Emmy Harris is twenty five and is a graphic design student. She was studying in the coffee shop when Bentley literally fell into her world. Initially, he came across as a cold, arrogant man but it didn’t take her long to see that there was so much more to him. He was sexy as heck, but he was also sweet and funny. For some reason he chose to keep that part of him hidden away. It’s that part of him she wanted more of. And it’s because of that part of him she said yes when he asked her for a date.
Bentley’s reaction to Emmy is immediate. She wakes up something in him that has long since been dormant. She intrigues him, her light somehow shines through his shuttered down heart. She’s constantly on his mind. She very quickly becomes the center of his world. She makes him want to protect her, to provide for her, to make her smile, to laugh, to moan.
“There was something so easy about being in her presence. I didn’t have to be anything except me with her, and selfishly, I wanted more of that.”
Being in such a high profile position also has it’s disadvantages. Not everyone is always happy with his dealings. His relationship with Emmy puts her in the spotlight as well. But his feelings have grown so quickly, that Bentley can’t imagine his world without her in it. He’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she’s safe, and his.
First I just have to say Wow! I loved this book. I loved Bentley. I knew of the company, BAM, from the books I have previously read. But now I know how it all started. Bentley was everything you could hope for in a Hero. Emmy was perfect for him. It was so amazing to see the parts of him he finally let out when he was with her. His life changed so dramatically. His home was suddenly filled with friends, laughter and love. Memories were being made.
This was sweet, sexy, and pretty darn suspenseful at the end. We see every part of Bentley, even his temper. I can’t wait to continue this series and get to know the rest of the men of BAM. Next is book two, Aiden, the sexy head of security. I suspect I’m going to love it every bit as much as I did this one!
Safe! Very likable heroine -> NOT a virgin! She even was in relationship (plural!!!) in the past! *lol* Very sweet. The hero was ok, apart from his drama-queen tantrums.
The drama/action was a bit anticlimactic, the sex was not *lol*
See, dear authors, it's still possible to write a book with a hero, who didn't stick his d*ck in enormous amount of OWs!
Looking forward to Maddox's book. Slightly older heroine, mature hero - Alex's all in ;-)
I definitely found another book boyfriend. So very refreshing to read a book with an engaging storyline as well as a sweet romance. If this book is any indication, this is going to be an amazing series.
HERO~ To the world, Bentley was rigid, stern and all business. Very proper due to his upbringing. To his best friends Aiden and Maddox, he was a brother. But to Emmy, he was sweet, kind, protective, and loving. He was focussed on making his business a success and didn't take time for relationships other than being there for his best friends. That caused him to lead a lonely life, until them moment he met Emmy.
HEROINE~ Emmy was a sweetheart. She was unique and quirky. She could put out a bit of sass, but she didn't come across as bitchy or mean. She was very endearing and she brought so much joy to Bentley. I loved watching them fall for each other.
SEXUAL HISTORY~ Neither were virgins. Bentley was definitely not a manwhore at all but their sexual history was barely touched upon (thank goodness)
OM/OW DRAMA ~ None 😊
STEAM There was steamy parts, not a lot but Bentley brought some heat ...I could always use more steam 😈
VIOLENCE violence but none of a sexual nature
SAFETY Safe- neither are with others after meeting.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS The secondary characters were amazing. The guys, Aiden and Maddox are the heroes of the next 2 stories. They were well behaved, only with the women who are to be their heroines. Book 3, Maddox- the heroine is older (not sure how much) I'm not crazy about older women/younger men storylines. I am also hoping there isn't a lot of pushing away in their stories .
ENDING~ no epilogue which is why it was 4 stars for me. I need epilogues even in a series.
This book was so sweetly romantic, but then again, what else did I expect from the author who gave us It Started with a Kiss? While there was a suspenseful undertone to this story, it was really about Bentley and Emmy finding themselves, finding each other, learning to lean on someone, and letting go.
Bentley was super proper. There’s a reason Emmy calls him ‘rigid’. But with her, he can be himself. His circle’s tight and in next to no time, it gets bigger with the addition of Emmy and her best friends. And the steady growth of all of their emotions and their ties to each other was illustrated with such detail that even I felt like I was a member of the group. Each person had their own idiosyncrasies, but while some might see them as odd quirks, their love for one another helped them embrace their differences. I absolutely loved these characters.
While this was Bentley and Emmy’s story, and I don’t want to take away from how incredibly beautiful their love was, this was a story about their friendships as well. I’m so excited to witness Aiden and Maddox find love as well. Aiden because he comes across as a fun-loving hardass (how???) with a tortured past that will definitely pique my dark-loving interest, and Maddox because who doesn’t love watching a sweet nerd find his happy? Honestly, it was impossible not to fall in love with all of these characters and I’m thrilled that I’ll get more opportunities to watch them all love and grow!
Release: Feb. 8, 2018 | Genre: Contemporary Millionaire Romance | POV: Dual - 1st person | Heat: 3 out of 5 | Standalone - Vested Interest #1
This was a great sexy read with amazing characters with a little suspense mixed in. I loved the interaction between Emmy and bentley, both were very likeable and interesting and their were some really great humorous moments between these two. THE secondary characters like Aiden and Maddox were great and I loved both dee and cami best friends like these ladies are keepers. The storyline was good and I Also liked the steady pace of this read. Can't wait to read more about both aiden's and Maddox's and their developing relationships.
Melanie Moreland isn’t a new author to me and I’ve had as many successful reads from her as I’ve had less so. But if Bentley is anything to go by, her Vested Interest series and I are going to get along just fine.
Maybe what he needed wasn’t glitz and glamour, but someone to make him happy.”
Successful and wealthy, Bentley Ridge has a presence befitting his billionaire status when he walks into a room, or as is the case when he first meets Emmy, falls. He has a more vulnerable side, protecting himself with an uptight, cold veneer and aside of his best friends, Aiden and Maddox, he’s a bit of a loner. But from the moment he and Emmy meet, the chemistry between them leaps off pages and it quickly becomes evident that there’s something special brewing between them.
Emmy is like a ray of sunshine and I loved how she teases out Bentley’s softer, easier-going side with her sharp wit and warmth. Yet at the same time she unleashes the fierce protector in him and whilst admittedly everything happens fairly quickly between them, it didn’t feel unnatural, just two people realising that they’re meant to be and holding onto tightly as they roll with it.
I know I have a lot of money, but it hasn’t given me one second of the happiness I have shared with you this past week. You have made me smile more since I met you than I have in years.”
Melanie Moreland has brought her reader intimacy and passion with action and suspense bubbling away in the background, and Bentley is an engaging, sexy romance with a sweet edge which I pretty much devoured in one sitting. And having firmly laid the foundations for the future books in this series—not only do we get to know Bentley and Emmy, but their friends too who are all strong characters with their own stories to tell—I can’t wait to get my hands on Aiden in May.

Every time Melanie Moreland announces a new book, I get super excited and the count down until release day can begin. I’m a huge fan of the author. I just absolutely love her books and it wasn’t any different with Bentley. It was beautiful, romantic and a little suspenseful.
I thought I could read one chapter before going to sleep. I should have known that wouldn’t happen. One chapter was all I needed to be hooked on this book. One unexpected meeting that will change the lives of two people, was all I needed to be hooked on this book. I read until my eyes fell shut and I couldn’t really focus on the book anymore, and that only happened after a few chapters. I picked Bentley back up as soon as I could the next day and I devoured the rest of the book.
I fell in love with Emmy and Bentley from the beginning. They are opposites, but they fall hopelessly in love with each other. They belong together, without a doubt. Emmy is sweet, loving, passionate, feisty, talented, reliable and independent. She works hard and goes to college. Emmy’s life isn’t easy, but she still tries to enjoy it and she’s determined to make it better. I admired her strength and optimism.
Bentley is a rich, successful, rigid and hardworking businessman. He’s so much more when he’s with Emmy and he changes because of her. Bentley can be protective, caring and loving. Emmy doesn’t care that Bentley is super rich, but Bentley does love to spoil her. He wants/loves to take care of her and he wants to be with her forever.
Usually, the author focuses on the main characters and there are only a few secondary characters that rarely appear. That was different in this book and I’m so happy that Bentley is only the first book in the Vested Interest series. Bentley and Emmy have amazing friends! I’m so intrigued by Maddox and Aiden. They are different and have their own strength. Both men will get their own book. Aiden’s story will be released next, so the counting down for that book can begin.
-- My honest review is based on an advanced reader copy of this book. --
Bentley Ridge is a gorgeous, single 32 yr. old wealthy businessman living in Toronto. He owns his own company BAM Corporation with his two best friends from college Aiden & Maddox. They are his partners and he thinks of them as family. There is no one he trusts more. They run the finances & security for their company, while Bentley has taken on the leader role. They started with flipping houses, and then began investing in bigger properties.
Lately things have been a bit stressful since they’ve been working on a huge project that they’ve invested a lot of time and money on. There’s been extreme competition on the land deal their bidding on, and it’s become personal. Bentley thrives on the challenge, & work had become his life. Over the years he’d become set in his ways, and often referred to as too serious, uptight, and formal. He was reserved, old fashioned, and sometimes cold.
Then he walks into a coffee shop and meets Emmy Harris and she changes everything. Emmy is fierce, feisty, spontaneous, real, open, and honest. She a light in his life, and is exactly what he needs. She’s genuine, sweet, and brings out the best in him, and makes him truly happy. They are extremely different, but Bentley is determined to make her a part of his world as he falls hard and fast for Emmy.
-“I’ve got you. Always.”
-“You are such a light in my life. You have brought me so much... joy. I can’t imagine my life without you anymore.”
-She was my everything. She was my home. She always would be.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to Aiden & Maddox’s books up next. The men of BAM are sinfully sexy & I can’t wait for more!
My name isn’t Emmy… Winifred Windfall. That means, really, I’m Freddy Money.
“Does he go with you everywhere?” I nodded, winking covertly at her. “He’s like a fungus I can’t get rid of.”
We headed toward the counter, and I made a beeline for an older woman, thinking she’d be the safest bet. Except when she looked up, her frank appraisal made me hesitate. When she licked her lips, I felt Maddox’s yank on my arm. “Abort, abort,” he hissed. “Cougar.” Like a well-oiled machine, we veered to the right…
Aiden, maybe you can teach me some of your karate skills. I bet I could take them if I tried. I don’t know if there is, like, a kidnapper network, but if word got out I wasn’t to be messed with, that would help keep them away.

My Review:
I adored each of these characters and am eager to delve into the rest of the series. The storylines were crisp, intriguing, cleverly amusing, and unfailingly entertaining. The character of Bentley was initially that of a frosty and arrogant businessman, but underneath he was a considerate and swoony teddy bear. I relished the easy banter and bawdy teasing among the group and was in awe at the deft and insightful handling of several rather heavy and vexing emotional issues. Ms. Moreland's smooth and engaging writing style held my interest, attention, and admiration from start to finish.
I was told by my friend Kate that I should probably read this one before I dive into my ARC of Aiden, and since I ALWAYS listen to what Kate says (lol), I decided today would be its lucky day. It was cute. There was nothing earthshattering here as it was a pretty predictable read. Very insta-love. Very easy peasy in the relationship department. No OW or OM drama. Neither were virgins. The hero's best friends conveniently hook up with the heroines best friends. The baddie was blatantly obvious from the start. All that said, I still enjoyed it quite a lot. I'm chalking that up to me being in the mood today for something with no drama or angst. And this fits that criteria to a "T."
This was a major snooze fest at first, then it got better on the second half throughout the ending.
The things I wasn't a fan of:
* I was bored all throughout the first 40% of the book. The characters' internal monologue was not interesting at all. I can handle insta-love if it's well written and executed properly. Unfortunately this is the type of book that made failed to portray insta-love that's kind of believable.
* The one thing that irks me a lot is the fact that almost every scene Bentley's richness is pointed out in the book. I mean okay dude, we get that you're rich but you don't need to rub it in our faces every damn time. Ugh. I usually love poor-heroine rich hero tripe but this was a total overkill.
* I also found zero—yep, zero as in nada nah nothing—chemistry between Bentley and Emmy. They are so fucking bland. The smut scenes were uninteresting and borderline cringy that made me decide to skip it. Their conversation with each other was too cheesy but felt empty.
* This has too much potential because first, I love rich businessmen heroes who will fall for a plain jane heroine. Second, a series automatically gets my attention if the first book hints the other side character's love interests on the sequel. Third, I adore male POVs because I get to explore what goes on their mind—how they think, how they feel—but this was a disappointment because Bentley was being described as a overly rich enigmatic bachelor who doesn't have time for relationships but his POVs are contrary to what is being shown. He was ant-infestedly-sweet and it does not suite him. It does not! I'm sorry but I don't like it. At all.
* The exposure of the said "villain"- which honestly was so obvious from the very beginning of the book. *eyerolls*
The slight game changer:
When the rising action was introduced in the story, it got a little bit better. The action around those last scenes was kinda okay- not that it's that great- but it did make it bearable.
Obviously what I ranted on my review is pure cons about this book but I'm still giving it a 2 star because I finished it.
I read Maddox story first then Bentely. I have to say i like Bentley better. That is because of Emmy. She is a sassy flirty woman. The dialog between her and Bentely is very engaging and managed to coax a smile on my face.
There is a little angst. Even with Emmy kidnapping drama. I wish Bentley dwaling with his anger can be executed better. I feel like he is a spoil child when he is angry.
Aside from that, i still e joy this book very much.
3.5 stars I enjoyed this, but it wasn't as good as I expected. I really like this author! She is a great writer and I love how well you get to know her characters. I liked Emmy and Bentley, but I didn't feel wowed by the story. Also, Bentley threw a couple tantrums that I could have done without! I will probably read the next one!
2.5 ⭐️. It served its purpose as a “brain detoxing “ but not 💯%. Some things annoyed me. Maybe it was worth more but: 1: the mystery: the guy who was threatening the hero was so obvious that I am appalled 3 self made SMART billionaires haven’t seen or noticed the “clues”. (-1 ⭐️). And one of the guys was head of security.
2: heroine has 2 friends who conveniently became the love interest of the other 2 men. Cliche and easy. (-1 ⭐️) It just erased any intention I had to read the rest of the series. Just “yawning”. 😴😴
3: heroine was kidnapped by the “bad guy” and it took wasted pages and words to resolve the situation. This is an old plot and I thought it was long gone. (-1 ⭐️) These pages should have been used for epilogue. The story feels incomplete.
4:The bad guy commits suicide in front of hero and says is his fault. Eye rolling worthy. (-0.5 ⭐️). At least less one scum bag to inhabit the face of book land.
It was a light sweet read. The girl was it for the guy and no mention of op at all.

Winston Bentley Ridge the III also just known as Bentley is stiff, rigid and formal, having a specific upbringing hasn’t particularly helped. He is rich comes across as entitled and has only two friends who he considers to be family. (They will get books as well) but beneath all of it he is a lost man with a heart of gold that never comes to light until one chance encounter at Al’s coffee shop.
„Hi, stranger, sitting at my table. I’m Emmy”
They get off to a hilarious start.
Emmy is somewhat of a loner all her life she has been taught to not trust anyone and to leave at the drop of a hat. She has two friends Cami & Dee who are more likely family. But even that is hard for her after growing up with her Grandmother because of her non-existent parents said parents leaving her and then her brother up and leaving her.
For me Bentley is a fantastic Hero, once he opens up he gives it his all. All his love, his loyalty and his money means nothing to him. I love everything about him. How he is and how he acts and how interacts with Emmy and his friends Aiden & Maddox.
Emmy is a strong heroine. She is strong, caring, sassy, sweet and pure of heart. She accepts Bentley the way he is. She also keeps him on his toes. It is rare where an author can write where I equally like both MC.
What Emmy and Bentley have is special although the instant love was somewhat too much for me There is a reason why it only gets four stars though. The first one being I knew quite early on who the culprit is. Bentley acted like a douchecanoe which wasn’t at all necessary IMO. The love they have is pretty instantaneous but I think the author is known for that, I would have liked to have had more build up between the two.
I liked the blurb of this book and I really enjoy the Ms. Moreland’s writing style and here she has written an upbeat, sweet enticing read with loveable, unique and flawed characters. The plot is interesting an easy and quick read. . I loved all the characters in the book and am really looking forward to Aiden’s and Maddox’s books.
This is very much a wish-fulfillment fantasy, though with a pseudo-twist I'll get to. Bentley and his posse are successful, high-octane business guys with that protective, caretaker twist we all love so much in our romances. Only pronouncedly Canadian so they're also very solicitous and nice unless or until someone violates the social contract that keeps us all civilized.
So for the first part of the story, I was really into Bentley and Emmy. Bentley is a bit stiff and formal but he owns it. And not in the "I don't have to bend for other people" way that might be expected but rather more "I'm more comfortable with formality and accept that others may find it off-putting but we'll rub along okay if we can accept our differences". So Canadian. He finds in Emmy someone who accepts him but also makes him laugh and that brings him joy. His delight in Emmy was really touching and I liked how unabashed he was about that, too.
And I liked Emmy. I loved how she could tease the stiff without any hint of malice or mockery. And I liked how independent and strong she was despite the setbacks of her early years. And I liked that she'd talk about the things that made her insecure and that she could lean on Bentley without being bowled over by his obvious wealth.
So I'm reading along and I'm all "this is a really smooth, low-conflict relationship progression. It's sweet, but what's with the fountain of guns this Checkhov fellow is strewing about the place?" The thing is, Moreland is not a subtle storyteller. So the bad guy was pretty obvious and drama was more or less inevitable. And when the obvious finally happened, a switch flipped in my head and the characters inverted for me. If I had to put a label on it, I'd call it "Canadian gothic as melodrama." And I found that I could predict every action and every line and every development by applying this filter. I had a handful of laugh-out-loud moments that were totally not appropriate to the events depicted and I finished the book with a chorus of "but of course (s)he does!" ringing in my head.
So I'm torn on how to rate this. I was entertained, but maybe not in a good way? How about this: if your sensibilities align with the author then this will deliver a great emotional payload and while there will be few surprises, you'll definitely find that the people you admire will overcome in the end and will even get the therapy they need because Canadian. And none of that is bad so I'm going to go with three stars and note that I'll be unlikely to try other books by the author, but that's completely a taste thing and no judgement of her or her fans is intended.
A note about the Audiobook: Both Maxine Mitchell and John Lane are very good with both the characterization and accents in this book. John Lane is, however, absolutely fantastic. They both lean into the characters and let me tell you, I had an actual thrill when Bentley had a quintessentially heroic diatribe that Lane delivered with all the Candianness you could ever imagine. And I don't mean just the accent.
A personal note about Canadians: Yes, I know y'all aren't your public persona. But the stereotypes aren't complete fabrications, either. I developed a love for Canada and an ear for Canadian culture from my roommate in college. Those years together were a great education in cultural differences despite a shared language and geography and I'm always thrilled when someone gets those sometimes-subtle nuances right. And Moreland does this pretty well, I think (despite the dramatic flavor of the story).
A note about Steamy: There are a couple explicit sex scenes that put this (barely) in the middle of my steam tolerance. They're kind of short but they're very sweet.
This story was...lovely I cant find a proper word for it, it was an okay read-romance drama with a touch of suspense but without the 'grave' seriousness of the described matter... Well, it's a fiction after all, hero saves the damsel in distress in the end and gets the cake...*wink*
I loved this book... and now I want the other men's books like NOW http://amzn.to/2G87iMn
Bentley is everything I want in book 1 of a new series and then some.
The banter between Bentley and Aiden and then Bentley, Aiden and Maddox is epic! Bro-mance and then some. Just wait til you read the shopping scene and what leads up to it. These men who bonded in college are an amazing example of the power of friendship.
Oh wait I should probably talk about the romance too lol….. Bentley opening himself up to Emmy was so touching. This is not a book about a woman who changes a man, this is a book about a man who is different around the person who is right for him, the person his heart connects with. Bentley’s very personal gestures touched my heart… oh wait til you read Emmy’s birthday celebration!
Ms Moreland created a world that pulled me and touched me in so many way. The connections between the characters bleed off the pages and the backstories which slowly unfold truly allow the reader to understand the characters, partially Bentley and Emmy.. we only gets hint of Aiden and Maddox hence wanting them NOW lol.
And wait.. just wait to meet Greg and how story plays out.. truly masterful, and painful and impactful and well read the book!
Aiden… oh Tree Trunk how I need your story LIKE NOW! Aiden had me wanting his story from almost the moment the banter with Bentley began on the opening pages and.... quiet Maddox... ugh I want to know more
I am very much excited for the rest of this series and I hope, hope after Maddox we get a happy to Reid as he endeared himself to my heart and I think the rest of the casts!
I’m really glad I read the prequel to this series since I think it gives you some insight that is helpful.
This has suspense which I always find good to keep the story interesting when romance is involved. I did know who was behind it all along so that didn’t surprise me but I still like the way it all played out.
Both characters are great and all the supporting characters were fun. I can’t wait to read more about all of them. Emmy’s best friend is named Cami, which is my name, so of course I want to know more when it comes to her and Aiden.
This book really has it all….it will make you laugh, it has action and suspense there are sweet moments and best of all is the STEAM factor!
Audiobook: Narrator – Maxine Mitchell and John Lane
Great narration of these characters! While both of these narrators did a wonderful job, I must confess I was more partial to Mr. Lane’s performance. Although I really think it was all due to the actual character he was portraying. Bentley is an exceptional hero and Mr. Lane brought him to life for me.
Wow! Why the heck have I delayed reading this book for so long? Bentley is freaking amazing and I’m kicking myself for not digging into this book sooner.
While this hero is reserved, cold, and wears entitlement well, when he’s with Emmy he is a different man. She brings out the very best in him, a part of himself he didn’t really realize even existed. He wants to give her everything she’s never had, to take care of her, to cherish her. Bentley is definitely the type of hero I love and can’t get enough of.
Emmy is cute, fun, sassy and keeps Bentley on his toes. She meets him head on and calls him on his bull. But she’s an independent woman and her past has made her less likely to rely on anyone or accept help from them. That causes some clashes between these two, but nothing too dramatic. Just enough to show the evolution of their relationship and give them the opportunity to slowly open up to one another.
This was such an amazing read and exactly what I was looking for. It’s fast paced, plenty of smexy times without overdoing it, and had some drama at the end. Despite knowing who the bad guy was from the beginning, it had some pretty intense moments and showcases Bentley’s protective mode full force. And as much as I adored this couple, I absolutely loved their friends. Especially Aiden and Maddox. The relationship between the three men is as much a part of this book as the romance and I can’t wait to read more!

"That's how we do it! BAM!" "It stuck. Our initials, our ideas, our brand. My brothers."
Bentley is the first book in the Vested Interests series by a new to me author Melanie Moreland.
This book is exactly what I didn't know I needed right now - A cute, delightful romance with charming MC'c and secondary characters.
Bentley Ridge is a snobby and uptight businessman who spends all of his time doing business and spends very little time for himself.
Emmy is a breath of fresh air, not only for Bentley but also for me. She was sarcastic, sassy and beautiful and her antics had me laughing out loud
"I'm twenty-five. How old are you?" Her eyes widened mischievously, and she leaned forward, her voice almost a whisper. "Are you like, ancient? Thirty?" "Thirty-two, actually." She laid her hand on her heart. "My God, one foot in the grave. No wonder you act so oddly."
The author had me hooked right from the start and didn't let go until the very end. I can't wait to read more about the secondary characters. This was my first book by this author and it certainly won't be my last.
