Born in California, Caryl McAdoo got to Texas in time to celebrate her first birthday. As a Dallas seventh grader, she remembers a homework essay on ‘What will you be doing in 2000?’ Looking into the future, she saw herself as an inter-galactically famous author, streaking from planet to planet signing books.
She laughs, “But I didn’t start writing again until the late ’80s, then was so blessed to find the DFW Writers’ Workshop in ’93.”
Her first book debuted ’99, then for the next nine years, she averaged a title a year from four traditional presses: two non-fiction, four novels, and three mid-grade chapter books.
In March 2014, her first historical Christian romance VOW UNBROKEN debuted from Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
In April that year, she re-released LADY LUCK'S A LOSER (formerly The Apple Orchard Bed and Breakfast) with a new chapter. In September 2014 HEARTS STOLEN, book two in the Texas Romance Family Saga historical romance series, debuted as her first new Indie, and in November A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, her first Biblical fiction series The Generations launched. So four titles in 2014.
Book three of the historical Family Saga HOPE REBORN debuted in January 2015 to start off a whole new year with eleven new titles planned. THE PREACHER'S FAITH comes in February, Caryl's first contemporary in Red River Romance series. THEN THE DELUGE COMES, volume two of The Generations, follows in March.
Since 2014, she's published over sixty new books, averaging over seven new titles a year through 2020. She completed the 'Texas Romance Family Saga' with a total of ten novels, plus several 'Texas Companion Books'!
Plus, she's eight books into a second series, the 'Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga' and debuts a third New Beginnings saga's book one WAGONS WEST in November 2022, her fifth book for the year.
Also known as Grami, she adores twenty-five grandsugars, and she and O’Pa—her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty+ years write together. She’s dedicated to advancing God’s Kingdom through her novels, praying her story gives God glory!
Caryl loves to share her testimony, pray, and praise and worship Him; He frequently gives her new songs.
She believes all good things are from Him and that her books will minister His love, mercy, and grace to her readers.
Irving, Texas remained her lifelong home until 2008 when she and Ron followed God’s leading to Red River County in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State. There at The Peaceable, the twenty acres of blessings they call home, the McAdoos raise chickens and goats while waiting for God to open the next door!
Silent Harmony by Caryl McAdoo is a sweet Christian historical romance that will warm the reader's heart. Set in the years following the American Civil War, people have lost so much but the love of the Lord remains. Caryl McAdoo has created some delightful characters that took up residence in my soul. Grown up sisters were realistically drawn with their sibling quibbles and their loyalty to each other. As there were prophets in the Bible, so they exist today. Caryl McAdoo portrays a character struck dumb by a stammer apart from when he is speaking in love or the Lord is speaking through him. The novel revolves around a school for the deaf. Teaching, ahead of its time opens up the world for scholars young and old alike. A perfectly delightful tale. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy it today. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Another great by McAdoo that centers around a little four year old girl named Harmony, that was born deaf. She lives in the home with her widowed mother and her two unmarried sisters. The mother Lucy, being the eldest makes most of the decisions for the three of them, plus keeping peace between the middle sister, Servilia and the youngest, mild mannered Melody. They are prone to many disagreements and sometimes resort to actually fighting…….. Reverend Ezekiel Sheffield is the new teacher for a boys school that is opening in the area and he knows sign language. He learned sign language because he stutters so badly, he is ashamed to speak. Melody so wants her niece to learn sign language that she agrees to take her niece to school one day a week and remain there all day. Besides she is smitten by the handsome teacher. Of course the sour sister Servilia, is totally against it. She feels it is a waste of time and Melody is needed to help gather in the crops. little Harmony loves Zeke at first sight and because of this Melody feels like Zeke and her sister should marry so little Harmony would have Zeke for a daddy…..but there is another who would like to be Harmony’s daddy. All of this together makes for an interesting read that will keep you turning the pages. Also the preacher prophesied a great storm was coming but no lives would be lost. You feel yourself riding terrified throughout a terrible tornado, but no life is lost…… I love how this story ends. All is well that ends well……… Thank you Caryl McAdoo for another lovely book.
Three sisters, orphaned by the Civil War, struggle to keep the family farm going. The eldest, Lucinda is mother to a deaf daughter, Harmony, and mediator between her argumentative siblings, Servilia and Melody. Their fragile truce is shattered by the arrival of the handsome Ezekiel Sheffield, coming to establish a school for the deaf. Miracles, mayhem, and marriage ensue, but nothing ever comes easy. I love the theme of God uses all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Silent Harmony is book 2 of the Lockets and Lace series. I couldn’t help but love the characters.
This was a great story. I loved the characters of Lucinda, Harmony, and Melody. I even came to love Servilia before the book ended. Ms. McAdoo showed the prejudice against people with handicaps, especially at the time, but balanced it out with plenty of love and acceptance. This story shows that love can be found unexpectedly. I would recommend this book. I received a PDF copy of this book from the author and was not obligated to write a positive review.
I must say that at first I had to make myself focus on what was going on( it was cold in my house), but this was such a beautiful story. It kind of reminded me of the old stories like Christy. Wow, this had so much meaning in it. I 💖LOVE how love and mercy was a big theme in this book. Love for family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. This book went back and forth on each of the sisters perspectives. I honestly didn't like Servilia until she finally made peace with her sister. She has to be my favorite of the sisters. I know the middle child usually gets left out of stuff and I felt for her on that, even though I am the youngest in my family. I 💖LOVE how all the sisters found matches each in a different way. I also 💖LOVED how Zeke reminded me of Moses due to his stuttering and prophecying. I don't want to say too much more or else I would be spoiling it. I really don't know how the author did it, but she packed a lot of meaning into this smallish book( I💖LOVE those kinds of books). I Most Absolutely recommend this book and plan on adding at least 2 of Caryl McAdoo's books to my Christmas wishlist.
Sweet love story, and glad all 3 sisters, and precious little Harmony, have a happy ending. Some of the language choices seemed a bit clunky and out of place to me, and the editing could have been better (several spelling errors, and some grammar issues that were jarring.), but, on the whole, a good story. I live near DeKalb, in Red River County, since I retired, and enjoyed the descriptions of the area. It is BEAUTIFUL, here in our little corner of Paradise. Thank you to the author, who is also my friend, for the beautiful inscription in my copy. This one will be shared with MY sister, for sure.
Three sisters lead simple lives over complicated in this plot that often draws on. While there are certainly wonderful scenes about sign language, stuttering and hearing God's messages if this is a romance it falls short by short changing the older sister of a wedding scene, the same for the middle sister and if the baby sister's wedding is to be billed as the event of the season, then at least dedicate a couple paragraphs to it.
This is a wonderful story of love . Zeke Sheffield lost his mother and moved to teach at a deaf school. He was a preacher and prophet. He had a way with children. Harmony was four years old and could only make noises. She learned to read lips and talk with her hands. Lucy was Harmony's mother and her father was killed in the war. They lived with her aunt's, Servilia and Melody. I highly recommend reading this story. I received an ARC of this book.
The reader chose the highest rating. Why, books written sent to the writer by God deserve no less. 3 sisters, trusting in their Lord to lead them to love .
Silas- vineyard and family destroyed by a tornado when he was 16 Sam/Samantha- now in California wondering why silas never written her back. I enjoyed reading this captivating story that is well written with lovable characters. This story has a great "back story" on sub characters. Which added more depth to the story. Their story has a wonderful HEA!
Three Sisters, a Teacher with a speech impediment, and a little deaf girl!
Ezekiel Sheffield is a Teacher with a speech defect. He stutters. He and his mother are headed to the farmhouse of a relative to establish a school and work the farm. Zeke and his mother are robbed and his mother is murdered before they arrive at the farm. Zeke carries on and arrives at the farm.
On Sunday morning, he goes to the little nearby town to speak to the parish about the importance of a school to educate the boys of the town. Everyone notices his stutter but welcome him to educate boys in the area. Three sisters in the church take notice of the only bachelor in the area. They worry little that he stutters because is handsome and eligible. They expand their planning for one sister to become a mail order bride and the third sister to marry someone with local this to take over the cotton farm and things are moving.
Loved this stand how it shows compassion and faith. A young teacher comes to town to help teach sign language to the community, but also teaches the people about compassion and faith. Strong determination of a 3 sisters on their own with one having being widowed and raising a toddler together on a cotton farm. Each sister finds love, but not without hardship of being single on their farm. With the help and faith from the teacher and the community, love is all around and it shows what it means when you put your trust in God's hands and have faith all will prosper. Very good read.
A nice historical romance of three sisters struggling to make a living with cotton, caring for a deaf preschooler, learning sign language, and finding love after the Civil War. A well crafted story with believable characters, especially the sister rivalry, twist and turn plot with a believable resolution.
I loved this book and this was the first book I had read by this author. The book is part of the Lockets & Lace Collection but I read as a stand alone. I read it in one sitting and just enjoyed it as the flow of the story is so good. I also used a tissue or 10 as it is quite moving. Caryl hit a home run with this book!
This story of three sisters is quite the romantic tale. They all feel drawn to the same man, decide who he should marry due to little Harmony, but they are all in for a big surprise. There is a strong Christian theme throughout. To me, the last romance was the most interesting.
Three sisters , the oldest being a refery for other two other sisters
I liked the way the story had the oldest as head of family and it used her daughter in story to go to school for sign language. How the sisters found their husbands. The youngest a teacher at school for sign language and his cousin for middle sister.
Caryl McAdoo shares a beautiful tale of family, faith and love. Silent Harmony is a beautifully written story and a sweet, quick read since you won't want to put it down.
This is a very enjoyable boo. Set in rural Texas after the Civil War. Three sisters live in the old family home. The oldest is a widow with a small child. The other 2 sisters eventually we'd Christian men; the oldest had married first.
As always told with grace and humor, a story with engaging characters, interesting twists and spiritual truths. So interesting to learn of this school for the deaf beginning in this small town. Enjoy!
