He needs her body, or he will die. She needs his army...
Sergeant Sheila Adams is dealing with more than she can handle. After losing her fiancé to the Clenok cyborgs, she wound up in Providence, a small human hideout. But she wasn’t expecting it to lack leadership, and that she would become that leader. So when the mysterious weredragon alien shows up, she’s suspicious that he is actually there simply to help the humans. Why does she feel turned on by him? Why does he look at her with desire? She’s the leader, and can’t give in to this alien brute.
General Azlo Bron will do right by his King. He has a mission and will not fail. But when he starts to experience the symptoms of the Blackness plague he knows that his time is now short. The cure? Mating with a human female. But he wants Sheila Adams, and she is cold to him. Waiting for her could bring about his death, but there is another human willing to mate with him. Now he must decide. Should he wait for what his heart wants? Or give in to another and save his life?
When Sheila sees this suspicious weredragon named Azlo in action, she can’t help but to find him irresistible. He is a military might to behold. She wants to give in to her desire for him, but can’t let go of her deceased fiancé. But when she finds out that there is more to Azlo’s desire for her, she feels betrayed.
But with the threat of an oncoming cyborg army, she knows that she needs him now more than ever, even if she does not trust him.

General Azlo Bron and two other Veruka weredragons – each team leading 200 soldiers -- were ordered by the King to deliver a computer virus, enough to be shared with other humans encountered along the way. The idea was to distribute the virus throughout the surviving Earth communities so that they could defend against the Clenok cyborgs. If enough of their guidance computers called “keddles” were infected, the cyborgs would become powerless.
Sergeant Sheila Adams was in charge at the Providence community. Unfortunately, everyone looked to her to do everything, even though she trained people to carry out some of the duties. They still turned to her to handle everything, from food rationing to repair, to defense, and any other decisions that needed to be made! They had only 50 soldiers to protect 500 civilians. They would never be able to survive a battle with the cyborgs.
As Sheila was heading to the gate, one of her men ran up to tell her to hurry. Three unidentified ships were flying toward them. The ships hovered and three men flew out, appearing to be half dragons! Sheila agreed to let the three in to introduce them to the people and to talk about their intentions. They were given a large building as their headquarters. As the General and a Lieutenant looked over the building, the General momentarily blacked out – he knew immediately that he was showing symptoms of the black plague. The only cure, recently discovered, was to mate with a human. Bonding with a human caused her DNA to be absorbed by the weredragon and cured them. But the human he knew he wanted apparently hated him! He wouldn’t have long to change her mind or he would die.
Sheila and Azlo walked to the secure area where they would lock the virus away until needed. Azlo took an opportunity to kiss her, and she kissed him back. At least until she remembered her deceased fiancé who had been killed fighting the cyborgs. She couldn’t do this; kissing another man was wrong!
A few days later, Azlo again felt the dizziness. One of the humans, Chrissy, flirted and let him know she was interested in him. But if he bonded with her, it was permanent – and he wanted Sheila. Would Sheila realize what she was giving up for a memory? And with the cyborgs surrounding them, would she allow Azlo to die – his own men needed him to command and lead them. How could he convince Sheila to give him a chance, especially if she discovered that she would only be used to cure him of the black plague?
I enjoy the story lines of this author’s books. She somehow manages to make each one in the series different, despite keeping the overall theme going. This review copy was filled with editing errors that need to be corrected to make the reading good. But assuming that was fixed before publication, I really did enjoy the story and recommend this book. I voluntarily reviewed this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
A convincing novel with memorable characters and storyline that will entice to read AQAP! With a few exceptions, when I start to read something by Maia Starr, I am put off by the formal, mechanical dialogue of the characters. Yet, the masterful weave of her plotlines compels me to turn page after page despite my irritation. I want to know what happens to characters that I like despite the fact they talk like machines and the plot follows the same basic equation of all her other novels in this series [ (A weredragon + girl he likes = mate) + (she has an idea/plan to save the settlement) + (the weredragons have the needed brawn/tools/skills) = (they work together) = (save the settlement from cyborgs)]. Yet even though I know what will happen, Starr has me reading every page to find out how/why each event happens, and how/in what manner the Humans and Weredragons are able to work together to solve the newest Cyborg threat to their existence. I don’t understand it, but I have become a fan despite the many objections I‘ve had and continue to have about her writing. I was given an ARC copy of “Azlo” to prepare this honest, voluntary review, but you can be sure that I will be reading more of the amazing stories by the talented Maia Starr. Happy pages! 😉
>Book Review – Azlo >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Weredragons of Tuviso series and ends in an HEA. This book has an interesting plot of a post-apocalyptic Earth where the dragon shifters come to help save the humans. The human females are needed to mate with to save the dragon’s lives. Azlo is the weredragon and Sheila is the human commander in charge of the town. >The story could have been so much more. The battle scenes were exciting, but the story was so short. Down loading this book the pages given were over 1000. I was excited to dig into the entire new universe and all of the character. However, the story ended at 10%. Multiple bonus stories about a myriad of different fantasy subjects were included. I was so disappointed in how the book was displayed. I didn’t want a box set of random stories, I wanted one strong story. > This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 2 stars. The editing in this short story was horrendous.
This story picks up soon after the previous one, and carries forward the world building and overall events in the Universe. It is written with sufficient memory jogs about the previous story that I think it could be read as a stand alone if you really wanted to, but the previous story established this universe.
Sheila has lived with the weigh of the world on her shoulders for several years, and just because Azlo shows up offering to help shoulder the weight doesn't mean she is going to rush to trust him.
I enjoyed the story, but there were some points early on that felt like continuity errors (I am 90% sure a character died in the previous story, but was miraculously in a scene here) and a few places where it felt like dictation software had pulled in the wrong word, which meant I found myself stopping to think when I didn't want to.
These weredragons are some awesome flying machines. They have come to help the humans defeat the cyborgs that have taken over Earth because they need our medical expertise; this idea seems to be a very novel concept in the Sci-fi genre. Usually, humans are so far behind every other race we're thought of as stupid. But not in these books. No, we actually have good ideas. But enough about that. I think that Azo handles his sickness well even though it leads to a miscommunication between Sheila and him. And I LOVED the solution to getting the virus in the keddle. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book, and I borrowed it through the Kindle Unlimited program too.
I really don't know what happened with this one but OMG what was happening here. I can't o really just can't. Was it the copy I got or a typo but wasn't one of the captains/generals (I really stopped paying attention for a good reason so I don't know which) in the beginning of this book the first to die in the 1st book. You know the one who want to die fighting and not weak from the blackness. What?
(May need a few more reread before publishing)
That was only one moment, there were others (oh there were other, not the same kind of issue but you get my point) I really can't with this right now. Nope not today.
DNF - only made it to 20% before giving up. OMG, this was really bad. Very awkwardly written. Some examples- "I never spoke to him with romance in my voice."; or "It was more than the compound could handle, but we made do by having people share rooms, sometimes three or four to a bedroom to sleep, and turning the mini large massive rooms like the ballroom, the conservatory, and the parlors into bedrooms as well."; or "We could tell that the humans were power ring inside the building." There were other instances too. The 20% I read just seemed to weird & problematic. There's really no world building either, to explain what's going on & why.
Book two of Ms. Starr's alien Weredragons holds you in as much thrall as book 1! Excitement, suspense and chaos for the humans being subjugated by the Cyborgs and to the rescue (really??) the Weredragons! Sergeant Sheila Adams is tasked with assisting General Azlo, a Weredragon from Tuviso unaware that he has an ulterior motive in helping to save the human race. A lot of subterfuge and a lot of scorching chemistry make this story a hard one to set down once started! Loved it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
Second book in the series. Suggest starting with the first book to fully enjoy the series. She’s a sergeant and now runs a small town of survivors. She is pulled left and right and is going to fray soon. But a surprise visit by an alien ship will change everything. But she may not be ready to hand over any control to these weredragons. Can she trust Azlo, the commander of the alien army? But her body may just betray her from the moment she meets him. Lots of action destroying cyborgs and some heat.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.
Again Ms Starr has written another great book. New series, New book and new characters. All coming together to be another sizzling series. I'm amazed how she comes up with all the different scenarios, characters, planets and who gets whom. She is one of my favorite authors. Her writings makes her a favorite of many. Everyone should try at least one book, after that you'll be looking for all of hers and very hooked.
Interesting and entertaining read. Lots of action, suspense, and of course steamy romance. That's not all and since I'm not one to give spoilers you'll have to check it out for yourself. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no minority compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book This book was as thrilling as the first novel Karik. It had the excitement and all the thrill of the Shapeshifter elements. I cried. I laughed. And simply fell in love with the Weredragon & His Human. A lovely read that was so enjoyable that I can't wait for more
I don't know what the author was thinking, but she didn't study aerodynamics. Nine foot man with five foot wingspan would never get off the ground. The play between the characters was good, except it got a little flaky near the end. The story has potential, but seems to have missed the mark. It's okay for an afternoon read.
This is the second book in this series , I really enjoyed it Dragons well you can't go wrong with story with Dragons!! Azlo and Sheila are very well written great storyline that keeps your attention looking forward to reading more of this series
This is the second novella in Tuviso series. Loved it!!! General Azlo Bron met his perfect partner in Sgt. Sheila Adams. Another great read. Can't wait for the next installment.
What an enjoyable story book two in the series Maia Starr is a great story teller characters and storyline was interesting I enjoyed it immensely I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
I have read this book as an ARC reader. This is my freely given review. Earth is under attack, and the human population has been at war for years. Humans built machines, taught machines to make machines, and now A.I. has taken over and the machines have created Clenok cyborgs, which are wiping the Earth clear of humans. Weredragons, from the planet Tivoso, have come to Earth to fight beside the humans against the cyborgs. They have been on Earth for many months fighting cyborgs, when their King orders some of the leaders to take small armys to check on outposts, to see if any other humans are still alive. General Also Bron and an army of 200 warriors have been sent to check on the area of Providence. Sergeant Sheila Adams and only 50 soldiers have survived an attack. Together they find a small outpost, Providence, with 500 people living there. Sheila has taken charge and is now the leader of this town. Can they work together to save the people of this town when cyborgs attack? When Aslo comes down with a plague called the darkness and must mate with a female human to survive, will he be able to follow what he wants and claim Sheila? Will Sheila be able to finally move past the heartbreak of losing her fiancè, to find love again? In this fast paced, action filled book, once again, Maia Starr has mastered the art of bringing her characters from the page into your room. Once you start reading, you can't put the book down, you have to find out what will happen next! Enjoy, Ruth Newton
