Laura Bickle grew up in rural Ohio, reading entirely too many comic books out loud to her favorite Wonder Woman doll. After graduating with an MA in Sociology – Criminology from Ohio State University and an MLIS in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she patrolled the stacks at the public library and worked with data systems in criminal justice. She now dreams up stories about the monsters under the stairs, also writing contemporary fantasy novels under the name Alayna Williams.
Her work has been included in the ALA’s Amelia Bloomer Project 2013 reading list and the State Library of Ohio’s Choose to Read Ohio reading list for 2015-2016.
I seriously enjoyed this short paranormal story of a girl's connection with crows and the trinkets they bring to her in return for food. The ending is quite eerie and haunting.
With Feathers was a very interesting short story about a girl named Jordan who has crow familiars. Her connection to the crows draw them to her, and they give her dirty trinkets, objects and valuables in return for her feeding them. I really liked the whole concept and feel. It was dark, dreary and also imaginative. I was honestly hoping for a longer story though. I would recommend this story to readers of gloomy short stories with slight fantasy undertones. It was a good read. I really like the cover as well, very cool and artsy.
