It was interesting to really get a perspective from Carlin. He's still brutal. He's still the bad guy. I do understand some things about him, BUT, he's Carlin. XD Really though, this is a great little prelude for the series. Really recommend.
Content in Book:
1. Killing animals just to kill animals and to use the body as a punching bag.
2. Violence. (Sword combat. Hand-to-hand combat. Arrows. With animals (a scene with a bear that was pretty violent, but not overly so). Etc.)
3. Getting stitches.
4. Magic.
Who I Would Recommend This Book Too:
Those who want a taste of this series. Those who like prelude stories. Those who like to learn more about villains.
I made the mistake of reading this first without reading the others in the series. It was a free copy in my kindle library so I just read it. Maybe i will reread after reading the others. And then I will understand more.
This novella functions as a prologue of sorts to The Feud Trilogy. It tells of a military expedition to track down a fugitive suspected of killing the emperor of Altryon.
Carlin, a son of the current emperor, is ambitious, and jealous of his senior officer, Anthony Celerius. He makes it a point to train excessively, to compensate for his lack of special powers. In doing so, he inadvertently has his men kill a deer that’s sacred to the Venator who controls the land they’re on. This triggers a confrontation during which Carlin is nearly killed himself.
His ambitious and self-centered personality is glaringly obvious, and it didn’t take me long to develop a strong dislike of this character. This is a testament to the author’s writing, that it invokes such a strong reaction. The story also left me intrigued for the rest of the series, especially since the author was so young when he wrote it.
The Pyre was easy to get into and well written. There were some unique aspects to the book and characters that I found intriguing. The first half of the book was better than the last half; I feel like in some ways Prue sort of rushed to the end. For me, the ending was disappointing and I developed a strong dislike for the main character. If you enjoy fantasy fiction and you're looking for something new to read, you should check out The Pyre by Kyle Prue.
This short prequal drops you right in and takes you along for a ride . The main character is interesting and his abiltys are a different type that I'm not sure I've read before which is a good thing . This book definitely makes you want to buy the first book in the series ....😁😁😁
A Fantasy Short written by a teenage writer who has only now reached 21. A group of soldiers, 20 in number are hunting for an assassin in a forest. They incur the wrath of an enchanted guardian of the forest when a sacred animal is killed for sport. Prequel to a series to follow.
I love the book I can't wait to see what the Horseman has in store for Carlin I really hope he gets what's coming to him reading the prequel makes me want to buy the other books I look forward to continuing the series
Was this book in the past, an alternate universe, the future? Nothing is properly explained. What country are they supposedly in? Are they even on Earth, or is it another planet all together?
This novella was interesting and gave the reader a nice introduction to characters. It was a little slow and the overall plot for each race was well done.
