Two-time Reader's Favorite Five Star Read (Bronze Medal Finalist)
5 very short stories featuring a cheating vampire on the run from her abusive ruler husband, a woman watching an angel in a hospice, a fable about a woman and a wolf, and a very short intro about a girl with freezing powers in a world where people with powers outnumber those without. These are of course short intros to larger series by the author as a sampler, which is a cool idea. And the initial plot ideas were right in line with my usual reading fare. Unfortunately, and this might have just been a problem of how short the stories were, but none of them hooked me. And some of them were rather religious (I don’t care for religion mixing with my paranormal). All of them felt simplistic (also might have just been a symptom of how short they were) and didn’t really have any twists and turns outside of the initial setup or abrupt ending and the girl with the freezing power really amounted to being a long info-dump.
I quite enjoyed each of these five stories. They're a good introduction into different worlds created by Megan Linski. And leave you definitely wanting to read more of the stories of these characters. Megan just had this writing style that sucks you in quickly and keeps you craving the next page.
5 quick tales all with an eerie feel. Some also relate to the author's full length books. Great way to pass an afternoon all enjoyable. But yes this is sadly a quick read.
