The assault on America begins with an attack on Red Harmon’s family . . .
Trained to endure extreme danger and survive impossible odds, elite military operator Red Harmon has battled our nation’s enemies for years. While in the Rocky Mountains for R&R, his family is violently attacked by an international squad of assassins. No ordinary wet-team, this group is only the vanguard of a power play threatening national security.
Danger is everywhere . . .
Red and his young daughter escape a brutal firefight, but are separated from his wife. Evading though the woodlands, stripped of his unit’s support, Red puts his survival skills to the test all the way from Pikes Peak National Forest to Israel’s West Bank. He must defend his country, protect his family, and identify the unthinkable forces that are willing to slaughter anyone in their path.
David McCaleb was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Growing up on a farm, he studied the teachings of nature, enjoying hunting and fishing, intermingled with hard labor. One of the last green belts on the east coast, the Eastern Shore is steeped in creative culture, with which he credits much of his inspiration.
He graduated from St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware, attended Valley Forge Military College, and was accepted into the United States Air Force Academy. He served in the Air Force as a finance officer for five years and received multiple awards acknowledging his skill in helping the government waste money track expenditures.
After his military service, he enjoyed an eclectic career which included entrepreneur, marketer, insurance agent, salesman, inventor, financial analyst, drapery installer, and manufacturer. His diverse background enables his characters to possess an uncommon depth. He thoroughly enjoys any project involving the work of hands, but doubly so those of the pen.
As with the first two in the series, this thriller takes you on a fast-paced ride. Thanks to Good Reads I didn't have to wait for the release date in August.
This is a totally different story than usual. Very complicated and has many twists and turns. Keeps you turning the pages as you don't want to set it down.
Exciting, fast paced thriller. In America, in Israel, wherever. Husband and wife both working for government, but not really knowing what the other did, end up being stalked by Mossad. I recommend this book to people who enjoy action, deceit and power. I received this book from Goodreads for free.
I want to thank David McCaleb, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of Recon ~ A Red Ops Thriller ~ Book 3 that I received in the Giveaway.
Red is the leader of DET, a black ops secret team and he has a problem. His wife, Lori and he are both under attack as contract killers are after them. His wife's father is involved, Mossad, the CIA and unknown ordering the contract.
Most of the action takes place on Pike's Peak, with his ten-year-old daughter, Penny taking part in the plot as they run from a group of 'bad' guys. A shoot out at the gift shop on top of Pike's Peak, being shot in the ass, a utility worker killed and another shot, Penny taking out one of the bad guys, an encounter with a mountain lion and then a mama bear and two cubs, a crazy old guy being a sniper keep the action coming. Then a boating accident and a trip to Isreal and more action.
Recon is full of action, confusion, high emotions, betrayal and a strong couple with a family working hard to make the world a better place.
I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I have never read any books by this author before so for me this was a very hard book to read and get caught up in. Maybe if I had read the other books in the series first it would have been easier to give a informed decision about the book. For me I was totally at a loss concerning the characters in the book and the storylines behind them I know the government does many things that are hidden behind the scenes that we will never know anything about. The book was well written just not for me. But I do thank you for the opportunity to read and review it.
Recon, by David McCaleb is a military thriller with elite military operator Red Harmon and his wife Lori, a Fintel operative. They are on a family vacation in the Rocky Mountains when they’re attacked with their young daughter at the top of Pikes Peak National Forest. They narrowly escape, but the danger isn’t over as Red and Lori end up in Israel fighting to stay alive.
This book has it all. Nonstop action, intrigue and deception. Hold on because this was edge of your seat thriller that I couldn’t put down.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Was unable to finish this book. I was excited by the premise but it was not fulfilled by the actual story. The writing was stilted and plodding. The characters are weak and undeveloped. The members of the 'Det' are seemingly not the operator types usually found in these types of books. Just could not stay with it.
Another superb adventure by David McCaleb. This issue contains a lot more action and a plot that doesn't become clear until nearly the very last page. Red's daughter Penny plays a pivotal role as she is finally brought into the true family fold. Definitely a superlative read.
The author has promise. I liked his use of idiom, but the characters are difficult to find a connection to & some of his sentences seem kinda disjointed & make for a difficult read sometimes. For this reason, the book took far longer to read than I would have liked.
Good story! Help close up a lot of open story lines n the previous two books. I believe it’s a must to read the previous two books or your going to be lost! Lots of action!
It's an ok conclusion to a trilogy. Overall I came away not really caring about the outcome, it's pretty obvious who was going to prevail, you just had to question why and how
I like the detail the author uses in this book. You feel like you are with Red in his quest to save himself and his family. I would like to read more "Det" adventures in the future.
