Sigil Online #2

Sigil Online: Hellions

Rate this book
Even heroes die. For Riley and his friends, Sigil Online has never been more real. With the latest expansion, pain has been enabled and will now affect all players in-game. Aptly named ‘Hellions,’ the expansion introduces monsters, but not the kind that paragons have been fighting for the past several years. This time, players can be the monsters they once sought to destroy. But in a game where playing means having the money to survive in the real world, what will Riley do when death in the game doesn’t just mean an end to his character, but an end to his life? Reading this novel may cause an uncontrollable desire to play Superhero MMOs. Hellions is the second book in the Sigil Online Trilogy. The third and final installment, 'Bastions,' is available now!

I didn't like this one as much as the first one. It was a decent enough story, but some of the main character actions did not seem to line up with his behavior throughout the rest of the book, especially towards the end of the book, but maybe this is a theme, because I thought the same thing when I finished the last book as well. Despite the circumstances, I just don't see our guy making the decisions he did at the end of the book, not when in similar situations during the story he acted the complete opposite. You can't explain it away by saying he was tired or under pressure because every other time he didn't, and while I know this sets things up for the next book, it would be nice if the author would find another way to lead into the transition between books.
That said though, it was a good story, and we did learn new things about many characters, and we do get some foreshadowing of things to come, but even with all that, I can't help but feel this one was missing something. If you like action you won't be disappointed, there is plenty of that, along with intrigue and shifting alliances, so if you like that sort of thing then you are in for a treat, because there is plenty of things going on in this one to keep you busy wondering what will happen next. Overall a nice read.

Great continuation

If you enjoyed the first one you should enjoy the sequel. It did a great job continuing the story and fleshing out the fun ideas in the series

I think that the game system is kind of unfair, combined with the idea of having a main character as a support character made it too o boring for me.
