“Murder Gone Missing” by Lida Sideris, is book two in the “Southern California Mystery” series, but a new reader can enjoy this book without having read the previous book. The author provides quick background comments in the context of the storyline to fill in anything needed from the previous book.

The first person narrative opens with simple night of Corrie Locke breaking into her mom’s house to borrow a few clothes. Then suddenly someone else, Michael, is there as well. Michael is tripping over trashcans and whining about a demotion at work, and oh yes, a dead body. Poor Michael, you just hate it when you try to quite a job, but someone has already killed your boss. Right away, you just know this is not going to go well.

The drama and hilarity continues from there. The plot is dialogue driven, and the dialogue is hilarious. Clues abound but how does one tell what is important and what is not?

“Find something that doesn’t fit. You mean like a size two pantsuit?”

Pursuit of the killer is much like a “Keystone Cops” slapstick comedy of errors. Who knew looking for a body in a closet could be so funny? Even the suspects are funny.

“Why is she a suspect?” Michael came around to face me. “She’s a complex math major with the capability of committing a complex crime. She’s probably ruthless, judgmental, has no practical skills, and refuses to use contractions.”

I received a copy of “Murder Gone Missing” from Lida Sideris, Level Best Books, and NetGalley. This is a quick book to read, and enjoyable every step of the way. But seriously, be careful; you might just laugh right out loud as you read.

This was a riot to read! Corrie Locke has just become a lawyer and she has sworn off P.I. work. Then her friend Michael, finds his mean bully boss stabbed in the back. Michael and his boss had a big fight earlier that day, and he just knows the cops will blame him. He also 'messed with the crime scene a bit'. He call Corrie who is sweet on Micheal to help him. Corrie isn't the most graceful swan in the water so to speak. She and Michael go back to the crime scene, and the body is missing and so is the letter that will point directly at Michael as the top suspect! Corrie gets into all kinds of things trying to find the real killer, problem is there are many false leads and she is running out of time. Can she do it before Michael is arrested? You will need to read the story to find out. I would like to thank the publisher, Blacklit PR and Net Galley for an ARC of this book. I voluntarily reviewed it and this is my opinion of it.

Murder Gone Missing: A Southern California Mystery by Lida Sideris is the newest addition to this series. What a fun and twisty mystery.

Corrie is a lawyer in the entertainment industry by day and a private investigator when coerced into it by friends or friends of her father. She is accident prone which leads to some truly funny situations as this time she is on the hunt for a missing dead body. Most of the action revolves around a small LA college campus where Michael works. With several suspects, missing animals, twists and turns and misdirection by false clues, Corrie and Michael are often confused but determined to solve the case before Michael gets arrested. This was an enjoyable adventure for an afternoon.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Level Best Books via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Fog crept around the hilly street, clasping hands with the darkness.

This second sentence in the book should have been a warning to me. That was creepy, so was

I stood over him until time paused in the hush of the room and

I […] stepped outside and came face-to-face with the morning.

There was some serious prose in this book, and that’s only the first couple of chapters.

This book felt like a Stephanie Plum rewrite down to the two good looking male protagonists making eyes for the undecided female protagonist with a loony girlfriend as her sidekick, ineptly trying to solve a crime.
It does, however, lack Janet Evanovich’s smooth writing style.
I blame part of my dislike on the fact that I did not read the first book of this series and this may be the reason I had problems to connect to the main protagonists whose characterization felt flat to me.

Narrative: 1st POV female protagonist
Location: Southern California
Contemporary mystery with some romance thrown in

I read only the first quarter of this book, thus I would not dare to give a rating.

Murder Gone Missing by Lida Sideris is the 2nd book in the Corrie Locke mysteries series, and another great book. I loved her 1st book Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters, and I loved this one too. Corrie Locke is an attorney who works for a movie studio. When her best friend Michael calls and tell her, he just found his mean boss dead, she rushes to help him. When they get there the body is gone. Not only is this book laugh out loud funny, it has a great mystery also. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. If you love funny cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book. I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is the second adventure of the entertainment lawyer Corrie Locke who learned a thing or two from her dead father, a famous PI. Corrie is trying to just be an attorney, but friends keep needing her help in the PI department. When it is best friend Michael Parrish who asks for her help, she abandons raiding her mother's closet to help him. It seems he was demoted at the university where he works from co-associate dean to junior dean. His anger was so palatable that he wrote a venimus letter to the president, marched in and threw it at him only to discover a knife sticking out of his back and a cold body. He hightailed it out to find Corrie and get her help, only when they went back to the school, the body was gone and it appeared that there had never been a fuss in the office. It was pristine.

Thus begins the hunt for not only the missing body, but for the murderer, a missing dog, and even a missing lab pig who was being treated unkindly. A cast of characters (mostly outside of her office) includes maintenance men from the university, the other co-associate dean, some students, friend/assistant at work Veera, assistant ADA James (Michael's best friend), and of course Michael and Corrie. With such a diverse group of characters it is easy to understand how straight answers are hard to come by and there are lots of laughs along the way.
Add in the architecture of an older university complete with two sub levels, and the stakes for finding the hiding place just got higher.

I loved the first book in the series and book two was more of the same. Corrie thinks well on her feet, and although sleep deprived, she reminds me of the Energizer Bunny! Determination and a good partner-be it Michael or Veera or even James-kept her going. Lots of fun details that seemed to come out of nowhere kept me guessing. It certainly is not a mystery that is predictable in any way!

Recommended for all ages of readers and both sexes. Be sure to read the books in order for maximum enjoyment and understanding of the continuing characters. You will be glad you did. Now I have to write Ms Sideris and tell her to hurry up with the next book.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. I thought Corrie was so funny and I laughed a lot while reading this book. She is smart, feisty and caring. She will do anything for her friends, even break the law. Michael, her best friend, is also a great character. He is not as gutsy as Corrie, and he tries very hard to stay on the straight and narrow. The two of them are very opposite and that made for some very funny situations. The secondary characters added a lot to the story and I am glad I got to meet them all.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The plot is more dialogue driven (that is not to say that there is not a lot of action because there is) and in my opinion, that adds a lot of enjoyment when reading. The mystery is well plotted and there are so many clues to sift through that it seems like an impossible task. The twists and turns just keep on coming, I was afraid I might get whiplash reading this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well plotted cozy mystery. If you like funny characters, hilarious situations and some laugh out loud moments, then this book is for you.

I received an ARC of this book prior to publication and I voluntarily reviewed it and the opinions are my own.

What a fun and engaging read this is. Murder Gone Missing by Lida Sideris has a contemporary feel with charm provided by Corrie's mom who thinks food and fashion can solve any problem. Corrie, Michael, James, Veena, Corrie's mom, and the entire list of suspects at the college are worth getting to know. As expected, Corrie' life is a little messed up: she's having romance issues; she's as different from her mom as day is to night, ensuring that her mother simply doesn't understand why she can't just head toward that respectable lawyer job instead of tracking down dead bodies; and there's that on-going feud with one of her friends. Simply put--there is plenty of conflict here to keep you turning the pages, even without a mystery to solve.

Speaking of the mystery, it's well-written with twists and turns in every direction. Just when Corrie--and the reader--thinks they have it solved, they discover another dead end. I was so twisted and turned that I even thought it would point to someone that would have destroyed my heart if that person was the killer. Phew!

This is a quick read with some action, romance, and humor mixed in. I'll want to go back and read the first book in the series, because Corrie and crew are people I want to know more about.

This is an enjoyable, fast-paced cosy mystery. Corrie makes for a very likeable heroine in that she’s not perfect at what she does, but she always gives things her best shot and, above all, she’s a loyal friend. Her friend Michael finds himself in a tricky situation, and so Corrie does what she can to prove his innocence.
The author is very good at creating atmosphere. When Corrie was investigating the crime scene, I was on tenterhooks, thinking she’d be discovered at any moment! There’s lot more tension in the novel, but also plenty of humour and ingenuity. You’re kept guessing right to the end, thanks to clever red herrings and false trails that the author throws in.
The characters we meet are interesting and rounded. All in all this is a very entertaining and fun read.

I love a good mystery, especially one that has witty characters and this one is a lot of fun. I am sold on any book that has a female lead that is not only smart but has a great sense of humor. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing and that’s what any good mystery should do.

MURDER GONE MISSING: A Southern California Mystery by Lida Sideris is the second book in the Corrie Locke series. It can definitely be read as a standalone book. It’s a story of murder, mystery and showing that friendship knows no bounds.

Corrie Locke has recently passed the bar and has become a lawyer in the entertainment industry with hopes of moving up in her career. Doing PI work – again - is furthest thing she intends to do. That is until her best friend, Michael, who she has found she had more than friendly thoughts of, finds himself involved in the murder of his boss, college president MacTavish. The fact that “Mac” had just recently demoted him and that he mistakenly through nervousness handled some of the evident makes him a likely suspect. It becomes even more mysterious and finger pointing when the body comes up missing.

Corrie’s late father was a well-known PI and it seems some of his talents remain with Corrie including a box of his illegal weaponry. Some of her “talents” seem to get them deeper into trouble than to help solve the crime of who killed Mac. Along the way there are hints that Corrie’s father is still alive. After all, no one say his supposedly dead body.

James Zachary, Michael’s best other best friend, is the assistant district attorney for Orange County. He’s spot on to help as well. It seems that a past of working with Corrie and mixed feelings of an old crush Corrie had for him seems at time to make them more at odds than working together.

You can find a little bit of everything in this book. There’s humor as Corrie figures ways to break in to her Mom’s house to “borrow” clothes for her high profile job, some of the characters like Veera or events like pig stealing or finding a set of dentures in the pigsty. There’s also sweetness as you see Corrie trying to figure out her old crush with James and her very true feelings for Michael. There’s danger and excitement through Corrie being injected with truth serum and as you see the murderer getting closer and it’s a matter of who finds who first. Through it all, it’s all about finding out who did murder Mac and clearing Michael of any wrong doing and eventually contacting the authorities.

MURDER GONE MISSING is a cozy mystery that I enjoyed reading and will keep my eyes open for book #3 in this series. I’d be curious to see if there is more to Corrie’s father still being alive and the developing relationship between Corrie and Michael.

Lida Sideris has written a clever and funny story to entertain fans of light-hearted mysteries. My personal rating is 3.7/5. What I liked best:
1. This is a witty, fast-paced book with enough unexpected twists to keep the reader engaged.
2. The author paints descriptions with an artistic flair, and a hint of crime noir satire. Passages like “Fog crept around the hilly street, clasping hands with the darkness” abound. Better yet, she does it deftly enough that they don’t slow the story down.
3. The protagonist Corrie Locke may steal high-fashion items from her mother, but she is a tough and capable detective with a good heart.
4. One of my favorite scenes is when main character Corrie admits she has been antagonistic to another character for so long that she doesn’t even remember why she is doing it. The bit of self-awareness is in stark contrast to the sometimes unjustified sharp banter, and it did much to win over my sympathy for Corrie.
5. The author does a noteworthy job of ending chapters in such a way that the reader just has to keep going.
What I liked least:
1. At least one other novel preceded this one, and I never felt quite up to speed on the interpersonal relationships between Corrie and her two potential love interests.
2. In places the book reminded me a little too much of the famous Janet Evanovich series, upon which it appears to be modeled. (One spunky woman PI and two gorgeous men.) For example, Corrie’s sidekick Veeda talks entirely too much like Stephanie Plum’s sidekick Lula.
3. Witty and fast-paced can be overdone. In its least effective places, the book becomes a series of flippant one-liners in need of a little emotional honesty.
The power of what I liked well exceeds what I didn’t, and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mystery with touches of humor and just a hit of romance.

Fast paced, madcap and wacky are some of the first words I would use to describe this series by Lida Sideris. You don't have to read the first book in the series to know what is going on, but once you get to the end you know you want to be up to speed.
Corrie Locke has a law degree but wanted a career that was safe and secure. Her father was a P.I. and while she enjoying following him around, being on the fringe of his investigations... OK, to be honest she likes the weaponry and sneaking around.
She has two close friends, both very male and handsome. At times she thinks she may want more than friendship, but she'd hate to lose what she has. And it seems whenever she gets involved with something with one, the other also gets involved!

When Michael, one of those close friends, finds himself in a "situation" Corrie doesn't hesitate to jump in an help. Or break in and help. Except that Michael claims he saw a dead body and left incriminating evidence at the scene without calling the police. Trouble is, when they return to the scene of the crime, all has been cleaned up and there is no body!

Oh, if it was only as simple as all that. Walk away, crisis averted.

This is a dialogue driven humorous mystery. When you think things can't get stranger, turn a page.
If you've ever worked in a corporate or educational environment, I bet you can even relate to the office politics!

If you love to laugh and enjoy a quirky mystery, you will enjoy this book.

Where to start? From page one this is an interesting read. And then for awhile it gets a little crazy/silly and then things settle down and Murder Gone Missing turns into a page turner.
When Corrie's best friend Michael stumbles onto his bosses dead body after he's written a letter to resign from his university position he runs to Corrie for help.
But, they go back to the scene of the crime to get the letter and find there is no body.
What's up? Corrie promises Michael who she is secretly in love with that she'll figure out what happened to the body and who did it.
After a bit of a mix up when Corrie suspects the cleaning crew did the deed and then dumped the body at a pig/pet sanctuary things settle down and answers start to fall into place.
For awhile I was thinking this was just kind of ridiculous when Corrie is fixated on the body being dumped at the pet sanctuary in the pig pin.
But it isn't long before she begins to look beyond the pig pen and questions begin being answered.
Murder Gone Missing is a fast funny read filled with some main characters that are charming.
There isn't any romance but things seemed to begin to sizzle toward the end. Will the next installment fin Corrie finding love?
And will the mystery that maybe her father isn't dead be solved?
This was good fun mystery.
I enjoyed reading Murder Gone Missing and can't wait for the next one!

I received a complimentary copy.

What a delightful, witty, and funny mystery!

Corrie Locke has newly become an attorney and has decided to take a break from PI work even though she loves it. However, that break doesn’t last long when her best friend, Michael, comes to her in trouble. He found his boss dead, but that isn’t all. He had an argument with him earlier, and he “might” have tampered with the evidence. So, the two go back and are completely surprised when his body is gone! The place is spotless, and this begins a hilarious quest to find the real culprit.

The storyline and the characters were just about perfect. There was no shortage of suspects, and Sideris’s writing style made the story flow well. She put in enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. Corrie is hysterical! She is smart and witty, but the opening scene of the book showed me she was also going to be quite funny as well.

I think Sideris also did a great job of building her characters and showing readers who they were. It was a great balance between telling us a story and helping us get to know her main characters. There is a hint of romance as well. I got the feeling that Corrie and Michael had more feelings for one another rather than friendship, and I don’t know how this will affect their friendship with each other and with their other friend, James. So, I’m quite looking forward to the next book in the series!

Corrie Locke has sworn off mysteries and plans to focus on being a lawyer. But when her friends Michael calls her in a panic she can’t help but say yes to his request for help. Michael just learned that he was demoted. He writes a resignation letter and plans on giving it to his boss when he finds his boss stabbed in the back. Michael leaves his note and runs but figures that note will make him look like the killer. He returns with Corrie to find the note and body are gone.

Corrie can’t say no to Michael when he asks her help finding his dead boss’ body and proving that he was not the killer. What ensues is false leads, missing animals, a lot of places to hide a body in a campus, and sarcasm that will keep you entertained.

This was a good mystery and had some romance in it too. Even though it was the second book of the series I had no problem following along without reading the first book. I think this is a good mystery and I would be delighted to see what happened in Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters and the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

ARC/Cozy Mystery: I want to thank NetGalley for letting me have a copy of this book in lieu of an honest review. This is book two in the Corrie series.

I really enjoyed this book and finished it in two sittings. I did feel the book may have been about 30 pages too long. At one point Corrie says she is ready to wrap up the case and I was thinking I was too, but I still had 30% to go. The character of Corrie is likable and so were her two men, but, to me, the characters of Michael and James were interchangeable. There were some amusing moments, but not the laugh out loud I was expecting. I did guess the murderer. Really I thought it should have been Michael, but he was ruled out pretty quick. There were flaws, such as: call the police, but I guess that’s what makes a story a story.

I do recommend it. It is a palatable cozy mystery.

Entertainment lawyer Corrie Locke gets a frantic phone call from her best friend Michael. Michael, a co-associate dean at a LA technical college, has learned that he was being suddenly demoted and goes to confront his boss. Finding him stabbed to death in his office, Michael panics and tampers with the crime scene. Corrie agrees to help and they return to the boss' office but the body has vanished. Now with the help of her plus-sized friend Veera, and ADA James, Corrie uses all the tricks she learned from her late PI father to help clear Michael. The zany, frantic madcap action and humour in this book reminded me of the Janet Evanovich mysteries.

I received an eARC via Netgalley and Backlit PR with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.

Corrie Locke just keeps getting involved in a murder. So why is Murder Gone Missing? The body has disappeared. That leads to some interesting and fun developments as a large cast of characters arrive on the scene. This is part serious and part slap stick as Corrie and crew try to find out who did what and where the body went. Lots of red herrings and lots of twists and turns. See if you can find the clues and solve the mystery before Corrie and friends. This is book two but worked as a stand alone. It did leave me with some question about the relationships between Corrie and characters from the first book.

A convoluted weekend going from an office of the missing dead guy to the sub-basement. Clever clues and conjecture. Ongoing cliff-hanger and a will there or won't there be a romance. A dog and a pig play minor roles. Kept me guessing until the end. Some fun surprises along the way.

This book is a fast packed crime thriller. It's fun, the characters are lovable and the murder mystery kept me involved. The love triangle or angles seemed forced and don't make a huge difference to the story line. It's a second book in the series, which I didn't know when I read the book but I could read it easily and not feel like I missed anything at all.

Nice Read. Would Recommend.

Murder Gone Missing is the second book in the Corrie Locke series but can be read as a standalone.
Corrie's best friend Michael has been demoted from his do-dean position. When he goes back to the dean's office to confront him he finds him stabbed in his office.
When he and Corrie go back to retrieve Michael's letter of resignation they find that the body is gone.
Then ADA James gets involved. Corrie is trying to find out what happened and save her friend. Things are getting very heated between the three of them.
Funny and engaging it's also fast paced without the dull moment. Very unpredictable and cleverly plotted, this is the great read for all mystery lovers.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Backlit PR for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. I really enjoyed the book. It made me laugh, the plot was convoluted and intriguing. Corrie's ideas were wild and fun!! I can't believe she broke into her mom's house instead of just using her key. A fun read. I think most mystery readers will enjoy this book.
