লেখকের স্মৃতিচারণা থেকে শুরু করে কয়েকটি ছোটগল্প, ছড়া, ফেলুদা-তারিণীখুড়ো-প্রফেসর শঙ্কুর কাহিনী ছাড়াও সন্দেশ পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত বেশ কিছু লেখা স্থান পেয়েছে এই সংকলনে।

About the author

Satyajit Ray (Bengali: সত্যজিৎ রায়) was an Indian filmmaker and author of Bengali fiction and regarded as one of the greatest auteurs of world cinema. Ray was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali family prominent in the world of arts and literature. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and watching Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist 1948 film, Bicycle Thieves.

Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents.

Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including Best Human Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival. This film, Aparajito (1956) and Apur Sansar (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Award in 1992. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna in 1992.

Early Life and Background:
Ray's grandfather, Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury was a writer, illustrator, philosopher, publisher, amateur astronomer and a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, a religious and social movement in nineteenth century Bengal. Sukumar Ray, Upendrakishore's son and father of Satyajit, was a pioneering Bengali author and poet of nonsense rhyme and children's literature, an illustrator and a critic. Ray was born to Sukumar and Suprabha Ray in Calcutta.

Ray completed his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics at Presidency College of the University of Calcutta, though his interest was always in Fine Arts. In 1940, he went to study in Santiniketan where Ray came to appreciate Oriental Art. In 1949, Ray married Bijoya Das and the couple had a son, Sandip ray, who is now a famous film director.

Literary Works:
Ray created two of the most famous fictional characters ever in Bengali children's literature—Feluda, a sleuth in Holmesian tradition, and Professor Shonku, a genius scientist. Ray also wrote many short stories mostly centered on Macabre, Thriller and Paranormal which were published as collections of 12 stories. Ray wrote an autobiography about his childhood years, Jakhan Choto Chilam (1982). He also wrote essays on film, published as the collections: Our Films, Their Films (1976), Bishoy Chalachchitra (1976), and Ekei Bole Shooting (1979).

Awards, Honors and Recognitions:
Ray received many awards, including 32 National Film Awards by the Government of India. At the Moscow Film Festival in 1979, he was awarded for the contribution to cinema. At the Berlin Film Festival, he was one of only three to win the Silver Bear for Best Director more than once and holds the record for the most Golden Bear nominations, with seven. At the Venice Film Festival, he won a Golden Lion for Aparajito(1956), and awarded the Golden Lion Honorary Award in 1982. In 1992 he was posthumously awarded the Akira Kurosawa Award for Lifetime Achievement in Directing at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

সেরা সত্যজিৎ আর এক ঝাঁপি শৈশব!

পুরানো বইয়ের মাদক ঘ্রাণ, সত্যজিৎ বাবুর ছোটবেলা, তারিণীখুড়ো আর প্রফেসর শঙ্কু, মোল্লা নাসীরুদ্দীন, ফেলুদা আর মজার মজার ছোট গল্প!!

কখনও কখনও রিয়েলিটি ভুলে থাকার জন্য ফেলে আসা সুন্দর সময়ে ফিরে যেতে হয়। "বই" খুব চমৎকার একটা ব্যাপার। শৈশব দিন ফিরিয়ে দিতে পারে!!

"সেরা সত্যজিত" পুরোটা পড়ার সুযোগ হয়নি, হাতে পেলাম এই বইয়ের ৮১-২০৫ পৃষ্ঠা পর্যন্ত, অর্থাৎ, শুধুমাত্র ছোটোগল্পের অংশটুকু।
এক কথায় অসাধারণ। গল্পগুলোর মধ্যকার একমাত্র মিল, বেশিরভাগ গল্পের প্রধান চরিত্র, একাকী, পরিবারহীন, পঞ্চাশের কোটায় থাকা মধ্যবিত্ত কেরাণী। এটা ছাড়া, গল্পের বিষয়বস্তুর মাঝে কোন মিল নেই।
এক মলাটে ঠাসা, হরেক স্বাদের গল্প পড়ে ঘন্টাখানেক চমৎকার কাটলো।

সত্যজিৎ রায়ের বই পড়ার পর আমার একটাই অনুভূতি হয় এবং ভবিষ্যতে ও হবে, তা হচ্ছে- আহা! কি আনন্দ আকাশে বাতাসে!

বেশ ভালো।
তবে কিছু কিছু গল্পে বেশ অসঙ্গতি পেয়েছি। যাই হোক তারিনিখুড়োর গল্প আগে পড়া না থাকায় তারিনিখুড়োর ফ্যান হয়ে গেলাম।

A perfectly fitting book for all ages. One will be amazed at the day to day description of Ray's life and the simplicity a child goes through in 'Amar chelebela'. Compilation of other stories of different varieties keeps one glued to till the book is finished.

বইটা, বিশেষ করে ছোটগল্পগুলো যে খুব বেশি সুন্দর, কিংবা ছড়াগুলোর মাঝে একটা মায়া আছে—ও কথা তো সবাই জানে। তবে সত্যজিতের যেই ব্যাপারটা ছোটবেলায় অতখানি টানতো না, এবং এখন রীতিমত পাগলের মত টানে—সেটা হল, সমান তালে লেখা এবং আঁকা! বাবা আঁকতেন, দাদা আঁকতেন—কাজেই উনিই বা বাদ থাকেন কেন। মাঝেমধ্যে রীতিমত আফসোসই হয়—এমনটা যদি পারতাম।

অন্যদের ব্যাপারে জানি না, তবে আমার কাছে সত্যজিৎ দেবতুল্য। এবং মানুষটা প্রতিনিয়তই আমাকে নিয়ে খেলেন। এই যেমন, যেদিন বাড়িছাড়া হয়ে ট্রেনে চেপে বসতে ইচ্ছে হয়—ঠিক সেদিনই "রতনবাবুর সেই লোকটা" আমার সামনে পড়ে যায়। আমি এমনিতেই পাগল, সত্যজিৎ আমায় বারবার মনে করিয়ে দেন নৌকো নাড়ানোর কথা।

অদ্ভুত এই যে, এই পাগলামোর মধ্যে শুদ্ধতা আছে, সাইকিডেলিয়া নেই।

আমার সত্যজিৎ রায়ের লেখার সাথে পরিচয় হয় "প্রোফেসর শঙ্কু " সিরিজ দিয়ে। ভিন্ন মাত্রার চিন্তাধারা ও লেখা গুলা খুব ভালো লেগেছিলো। মাঝে বেশি কিছুদিন তার কোনো লেখা নতুন করে পড়া হয়নি তবে মুভি দেখা হয়েছে অবশ্যই। সেরা সত্যজিৎ বইটাকে তার বিশেষ সংমিশ্রণও বা এক মলাটের মধ্যে বিভিন্ন স্বাধও বলা যায়। যেখানে রয়েছে তার স্মৃতিকথা, ছোটগল্প, প্রোঃ শঙ্কু ডায়েরি, রুপকথা, অনুবাদ, শুটিংয়ের গল্প, মোল্লার গল্প, ফেলুদা, ছড়া রয়েছে যার প্রতিটা সেকশন আলাদা রিভিউ পাওয়ার যোগ্য ।

বইটা সত্যজিৎ রায়ের নিজস্ব পছন্দের এক সংগ্রহ। তার শ্রেষ্ঠ লেখাগুলোকে তিনি এ সংগ্রহে অন্তর্গত করেছেন। স্মৃতিকথায় তার ছোটবেলার গড়পার ,ভবানীপুর ও শান্তিনিকেতনে কাটানো দিনগুলো যেখান থেকে তার লেখালেখি,পরিচালনা ও ছবি আকার হাতেখড়ি হয়ে এই প্রিয় সত্যজিৎ রায়ের সৃষ্টি হয়। তার ছোটগল্প গুলোতে একাকী পরিবারহীন মানুষগুলোই বেশি ঠাই পেয়েছে আর মনে ধরার মতো বিশেষ করে খগম( এক ঋষির রহস্য ভেদ করতে গিয়ে অভিশাপের প্রভাব), রতনবাবু আর সেই লোকটা(নিজের প্রতিফলন যখন সামনের কারো মাঝে দেখা যায় তা যে কতটা অসহ্য তার প্রকাশিত হয়েছে ), বৃহচ্চঞ্চু(নিজের হাতে বড় করা রাক্ষুসেপাখি যখন মানুষ ক্ষতি করা শুরু করে তখন তাকে নিজ হাতে মারার ঘটনা),অসমঞ্জবাবুর কুকুর( অদ্ভুত কুকুরের হাসি নিয়ে বিভিন্ন কার্যকলাপ) এই চারটি একদম ভিন্নধাচের সাথে আমায় বেশ ভালো লেগেছে। প্রোঃ শঙ্কু আমার প্রিয় সিরিজ আর এটা পড়ে পড়তে অন্য একটা দুনিয়াতে চলে যাই । তাই এটা নিয়ে অসাধারণ শব্দটি ছাড়া অন্যকিছু বলার মতো নাই আমার। রুপকথা সুজন হরবোলা(পাখির ডাক দিতে দিতে রাজার সাক্ষাত তারপরে রাক্ষস হত্যা করে রাজকন্যা জয় করা) আর অনুবাদ ব্রেজিলের কালো বাঘ এই দুটি বইটাতে রসের সংযোজন করেছে যা রহস্য রহস্য ভাবটা কমিয়ে দিয়েছে।বাস্তবতা ভুলিয়ে অন্য একটা নতুন জগতের পৃথিবী দেখিয়েছে। শুটিংয়ের গল্প দুটি তার পরিচালিত চলচ্চিত্র গুলো নির্মাণের জন্য বিভিন্ন স্থানে ভ্রমণের উপর ভিত্তি করে লেখা। বাংলা চলচ্চিত্র জগতে তার অভিনেতাদের সাথে যে সম্পর্কের সৃষ্টি তা এই গল্পগুলো পড়লে আঁচ করা ,কয়েক মিনিটের "হুন্ডী ঝুন্ডী শুন্ডী" দৃশ্যটি তৈরি তে কি পরিমাণে কাঠখড় পুরতে হয়ছে তা এই গল্প না পড়লে জানতাম না। মোল্লা নাসীরুদ্দীনের গল্পগুলো ছোট ছোট আর সবগুলোই পরিচিত বলেই মনে হইলো যদিও আগে পড়া হয়নি। ফেলুদা সিরিজের ফেলুদার রহস্যের জালভেদ করা তো সবারই পছন্দের সোনার কেল্লা, ছিনমস্তার অভিসাপ, ডাঃ মুনসীর ডায়েরি তিনটি রহস্যময় তিন প্রান্তীয় কাহিনী যা ফেলুদার মাধ্যমে সমাধান হয় । সত্যজিৎ রায়ের ছড়াতে আমার ততটা ভালো লাগা কাজ করেনা যতটা করে তার আর্টে এই ঘটনার মানে টা কেন যে আজো বুঝলাম না ।তবে পাপাঙ্গুল ছড়াটি বেশ ভালো লেগেছে এবার ।বই পড়তে বেশ সময় লেগেছে ও সবসময় ভুমিকার কয়টা লাইন মাথায় ঘুরেছে "আর কিছু না হোক, এ বই নিয়ে নাড়াচাড়া করলে বাইসেপ-ট্রাইসেপের উন্নতির সম্ভাবনা আছে তাতে সন্দেহ নেই "

A well designed book that gives you a peek into the man that Satyajit Ray was. A collection of his literary work, anecdotes and translation work that kept me hooked to it. I loved this collection as a part of my light reading ritual and probably something I will keep going back to time and again.

সেরা একটা বই। কী নেই এতে! সত্যজিৎ রায় এর শৈশব, ফেলুদা, প্রফেসর শঙ্কু, অনুবাদ, ছড়া আর সেই সাথে আঁকাআঁকি তো আছেই। এই সমগ্রের সব গল্প লেখকের নিজের বাছাই করা!

এই বইয়ের গল্পগুলো আগেই পড়া। তবে এই বইয়ের আকর্ষণ ছিলো এই যে ৭০ বছর বয়সে উনি নিজের সেরা লেখাগুলো সিলেক্ট করেছিলেন। তালিকাটা বেশ চমৎকার
