Coping with being attacked and left for dead isn't easy, but Samantha Moon is grateful that she survived ― until she suspects she didn't.

Vanishing from mirrors is only the first of a series of bizarre events that defies explanation, even to her trained investigative mind. A severe allergy to the sun, alertness at night, inability to eat food that isn't blood, and worst of all: she can't remember the last time she needed the bathroom. Of course, it's not all bad. Years have fallen off her face, her hair is perfect, her senses are honed, and (assuming she hasn't gone crazy) she can even see in the dark.

It's all too much to process, so she does the only thing that makes any sense: tries to go back to work.

A huge hat, shades, and half a bottle of high-test sunscreen later, she's back out inspecting properties with her partner Chad. Her first day, she suspects a HUD recipient of having undeclared income. Determined to cling to the career she worked so hard for, Sam traces the money back to small-time arms dealers selling big-time weapons. Everything seems to be routine until her sluggish reflexes get someone shot ― and her husband suffers an emotional breakdown.

Worse, she faces a more insidious and dangerous enemy than an apocalyptic militia group with military hardware...

Entertaining vampire listening 🎶🔰

This is a kindle e-book novel from my Kindle Unlimited account book two in the series of three.

Samantha Moon 🌙 is recovering from her being attacked by a vampire. The truth is coming out that she is a vampire. She is shot on a HUD missing but does not die. She heals quickly. Now she is dealing with the family. She goes on a night mission by herself. It is a success but leads to her leaving HUD.

I was surprised that this novel was published in 2018. I thought I was more up to date 📅 on Samantha Moon 🌙 series.

I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of fantasy world 🌎 family and friends relationships adventure novels 👍🔰. 2024 👒😀😡🏡💘

Did I not find two more series and authors On my. Happy reading 📚 and have fun 🌙😀 in 2024.

This is a pretty good story, it has the feel of the original in most places but sadly has taken on the cliche of the worst people are evil white men plus throw into the mix a Danny that is all gooey and sensitive that does not wash with those of us who have read all the original series. Some actual non-political bad guys and a Danny that falls into the version of him we already know from the original books and this would have been a much better story.

Throw in some not so subtle social topics that fall into the "if you are not all in for diversity you are evil" and you have a story that is seemingly tainted by the authors political and social beliefs. I have said many times, "I read to be entertained not enlightened" and if this was not Samatha Moon it would have gotten 2 Stars. My idea of a great author is when I can read their books and have no idea where their social or political beliefs lie. Tell the story and leave your pet projects and social engineering at home. Klan related bad guys have been beat to death by authors with poor imaginations and the desire to enlighten us. I just want a good story, I can watch the news for all the depressing stuff. Almost every human bad guy here was nothing more than a cliche of the "white, beer drinking, redneck Klan lovin', good old boy". Get some better original bad guys (or maybe even some REAL terrorists) for your bad guys. Not sure if I will continue this spin-off, have read all the originals and many of the spin-offs but I may give it one more chance.

On the good side, the basic action story around Sam and even her home life (minus the Danny clone) was pretty good.

I received this ARC in return for a honest review. I really enjoyed this book on how Samantha Moon became a vampire and a private I. Both J.R.Rain & Matthew Cox did a great job corroborating on this book. I really enjoyed on knowing the background on Samantha & how everything is fitting in with the other Moon books. I can't wait for the next one. Keep up the good work guys. I'll be waiting anxiously for the next one!

This is the second book in Samantha Moon's story , she is left for dead after being attacked . She survives and there is something different about her . She is not the same person , she is sick and has an aversion to light and wants to eat everyone . But she tries to be the same person she was before the attack . Will she survive the militia group she is after and most of all will survive the daytime .
This is the second book in the origins story line . I must say that I was happy to read about the accident that turned Samantha . The author does a great job in show casing the characters and taking them to the way they are in the first of the Samantha moon books . The characters are well written and we get to dive into them a little bit better . We see Danny as a husband hurting by what happened . He is so torn and wants to help and does but he is also scared for his wife and his children . He doesn't really start to act like a douche until the end . He is a great flawed character .
Samantha is such a great character she is strong and fearless but also flawed . Watching her come to terms with what is happening does tend to set off a giggle every now and then . The extra strength sunscreen and the big floppy hat make her sound like a old time movie star . She does come to terms with what is going on with her and man she kicks some butt . She comes into her own and its great to see her start her business and realize that she can do it and more .
This book was co-written and the authors did a really good job combining their writing styles. The twists and turns that they take us on will have you on the edge of your seat while you are screaming at you kindle . There are some great loving moments that will have you going aww . Especially the scenes with Samantha and her family. They are emotional and sometimes a little tear jerking . There were a few spots where I felt if kind of dragged a little but over all I really enjoyed the story and the characters . To see how things got to where they are . This would be a great book to read before you hit the series . So if you want a good book about how a family survives one being turned into a vampire and the aftermath . This is the book for you , be prepared to laugh and yes scream at your kindle a few times .

This book really helps bring together the old and new Samantha and take you back to things that happened in the Vampire for Hire series and give you more of an understanding. You really feel her struggle in this book as she tries to process what is happening to her as well as finding out how she has changed from her old self and have to give Samantha props for trying to keep on going as if life is normal when she can't even see herself in a mirror. Iv can't wait to read more about how she adapts to her new self and try and keep up the pretense she is all human!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

RWhat an appropriate name because interwoven with the story of a white supremacist militia of crazies, is the poignant recounting of Samantha Moon going through the stages of grief as she mourns her “death” and the loss of her hopes and dreams for a normal future. Hindsight is indeed twenty-twenty and we see foreshadowing of what seasoned readers know happens to Samantha and Danny, to Tami and Anthony, even Mary Lou. The beauty of this series is that it can be read with equal joy and understanding by new followers and old friends of Samantha Moon, a tribute to authors Rain and Cox’s vision for the series. Highly recommended to all who love the paranormal genre,
I received a complimentary copy from the authors.

'Moon Mourning' gave me a great insight as to how Samantha dealt with her being a vampire. She seems to struggle with the reality, but comes to terms with it eventually. She's tougher than I would be. I'd probably freak out and then reality would hit and I'd remember I wouldn't get wrinkles, wouldn't sag anywhere and i would have incredible skin. That would totally rock, but the whole immortal thing would eventually surface and I'd be back to denial. Danny is dealing with it better than I thought he would. The story line pulled me in from the start and left me wanting more. A great add to your tbr list.

Wow

It was awesome! We see when she was attacked and left. We see where she's figures out and starts to except what she is and don't know wassup with Danny yet. But seems to stand withering we know that doesn't last, but I guess they have 6 years for Danny to fall I to another person

Good readd!

This was a very good read. Portrays the protagonist's battle with everyday life, due to her life altering, supernatural metamorphosis, and her struggle to hold onto her humanity! Strong characters and world building.

Sam is just realizing the physical problems of turning into a vampire and how it’s going to affect her family. Explaining it to her husband, sister and boss is one thing. Hiding it from her very precocious kids is another. But using it to enhance her work as a federal agent is really cool.

The storyline was great. Watching her discover and handle different situations was intriguing. But the beginning few chapters are way too moany/groany for me. It got boring and made it hard to move on with the story. Yes, she’s a vampire with real problems, but we don’t have to read so much about it. We really don’t need to read about how amazed she is at her superpowers every few paragraphs or so. Though some of the situations I’ve never come across before, nor have they been addressed in other vampire stories. (i.e.: cold internally)

Fave scenes: confiding in Mary Lou, beating the water, Tammy’s hand paint and the monster in aisle 10.

I loved all the books in the Samantha Moon Series. This one appears to be about the six years before the original series began. I read this one out of order, but I enjoyed it immensely. The little touches of humor add greatly to the story. I rate this one 5 stars (probably because it reminded me how much fun it is to read about Samantha Moon, P.I.).

Accepting Reality?

This series must be read in order. The first book is "New Moon Rising". This is the second book. I can't wait to read "Haunted Moon"!

Samantha must somehow come to terms with her new reality but she is having a really hard time accepting what happened to her. Sometimes she feels like there is someone else in her head as well as her. She has a horrific time trying to stay awake during the day and is just slow... She does things on a few seconds delay no matter how hard she tries. She also gets horrific sunburns and starts to smoke. Super strength sunscreen is her new best friend and let's not even talk about mirrors! Can she be a vampire? But they don't exist right? How can this have happened to her? Why her? Can she stay with her family and her job or will she lose everything that is important to her?

An excellent addition to the first book, no cliff-hanger this time, but still good enough I jumped straight into the next book.
I for one am glad I found this author, as I have been looking for a good binge read series ever since I finished all of Ilona Andrews's Kate Daniels World and Joey W. Hill's Vampire Queen Series. I think this one has to the potential to live up to those series.

It WOULD be a 5, except for the storyline inconsistencies. I'm a HUGE Samantha Moon fan, but she has fangs in this prequel and none in the original series. There are other things I've noticed in the original series as well, but I shake them off because I love this Vampire Mom SO SO much.

Quick Read!!!!!

What I mean by quick read is that you can't put the book down. This is the original Samantha Moon book that explains how she became a vampire. (Spoiler alert!!) I love JR Rains writing. He puts you in the moment. Must read any of the books & you will be hooked!!!

Wow!

Sam's origin story gets better and better. Now that she has accepted the fact that she is a vampire, I know life will be better for her and her family. I 'm looking forward to the next book to see how she handles her new job and what happens to her husband.

Samantha kicks butt but isn’t appreciated,

She uses her human analytical skills and her Superhuman vamp skills to take down a hate group of gun-nuts and kidnappers.
