The Scent of Murder

Rate this book
Two independent cases involving missing women vie for the attention of psychic Diana Racine and her life partner in crime, NOPD Lieutenant Ernie Lucier. In the first case, Diana and Lucier search for the missing mother of a street boy they've taken under their wing. In the process of finding her, they expose the secret underbelly of crime and corruption among some of the city's most upstanding citizens, while putting Diana's and the boy's life in jeopardy at the same time. An eccentric socialite pressures Diana to rid her mansion of her twin sister's ghost in the second case. With no clues to go on, Diana and Lucier must first prove the missing sister is dead.

I'm a reader and writer. My reading choices range from mysteries to romantic suspense to thrillers. All my books have elements of suspense, mystery, and romance, with a dash of humor here and there. They are available as an ebook and in paperback.

In Polly Iyer’s THE SCENT OF MURDER, the author offers something for all her avid readers. She weaves kidnapping, greed, child abuse, illicit affairs, attempted murder, drug abuse, and manipulation. Iyer delivers a fast-moving plot with well-developed characters coming alive as they jump off the page. She grabs her readers’ attention on the first page and builds the suspense and thrills on each page until the very end of the breathtaking storyline.

The storyline addresses important social issues with focus on the life of a ten-year-old boy with no mother and no support system, forcing Teo to steal to survive. Iyer brings Lt. Ernie Lucier of NOPD and his partner and lover, Diana Racine, together with Teo as Ernie catches the young boy stealing a purse. Diana uses her physic capabilities to uncover details of Teo’s missing mother. Ernie begins to investigate the circumstances of the woman’s disappearance. The author continues the storyline’s development giving readers the backstory on how ruthless, rich and influential businessmen use drugs and power to manipulate individuals into unsavory activities. Events unfold, with a kidnapping and two murder attempts, which tells Ernie he is getting too close to uncovering what happened to Teo’s mother and who is responsible.

While Ernie pursues Teo’s case, the author introduces readers to the second case of a missing woman. A socialite, who lives in a supposedly haunted house contacts Diana to help find her missing twin. The second case gives Diana bad feelings about the circumstances leading up to woman’s disappearance. The author creates interesting support characters in the second case, driving the ongoing development of the storyline. She keeps readers in the dark and on the edge of their seats. Iyer unveils details setting up a surprising conclusion explaining the resident ghost’s message to Diana.

The intrigue comes to a dramatic conclusion for the cases of the missing mother and the missing sister. The Scent of Murder storyline delivers a resolution to missing women and Iyer delivers an unusual twist unfolding at the last minute. Her book brings to the surface an ending, sharing both sadness and happiness. Polly Iyer’s, The Scent of Murder is a thought-provoking story of good over evil. Iyer’s earns a five-star ranking and high recommendation to read.

So many twists and turns

What a fantastic storyline, a banker, a minister and wife, such bad and corrupt people. A young woman is dead, her son is being hunted for seeing the murderer, and the action begins. Excellent reading!

Loved this book

Kept me interested right from the beginning. I like this author's style. She knows how to keep the twists coming even after you know who did what.

Once you leave these books in this series, the characters stay with you. You have had to look bigotry in the eye and stare it down, to see how much racism Lucier faces down. Nola, Diana, and the readers support him and that gives him the backing to work his magic. He will always nail the bad guys with evidence to back him. This newest character may break your heart.
