A charming companion to Little Penguin Gets the Hiccups and Little Penguin and the Lollipop, Little Penguin Stays Awake is a funny bedtime tale that invites the reader to jump in and play along.
Little Penguin has one wish—he wants to fly just like all the other birds!
All he has to do is wish on a shooting star, but penguins have VERY EARLY BEDTIMES!
Little Penguin has tried everything he can to stay up extra late—but it’s not working.
All Little Penguin wants to do his fly like all of the other birds. His only hope is wishing on a star. The only problem is that penguins have very early bedtimes, so they usually fall asleep before shooting stars cross the sky.
Little Penguin enlists the help of his friends to keep him awake so he can make his wish. They do all types of things to distract him, but will it be enough? Will Little Penguin finally be able to fly like all of the other birds?
I love the illustrations and stories that Tadgh Bentley gives us. It's a fun adventure each time with a great ending. My little girl is never bored with these stories and LITTLE PENGUIN STAYS AWAY is a fun, humorous story for everyone.
Final Verdict: This story is perfect for fans of penguins, wishes, and animals in general.
Very cute illustrations and story. It's a quick easy read and also a little bit interactive with the reader yelling out "WAKE UP, PENGUIN!" when the penguin falls asleep. The penguin is trying to stay awake to wish on a star so the penguin can fly like the other birds. Will the penguin stay awake long enough to make the wish? Read to find out!
A penguin wants to stay awake and wish on a falling star and his two friends (different animals) have agreed along with the reader to help him accomplish the goal. Preschool and up. I liked the refrain of waking the penguin up but hadnt read the others in the series so I wasn't bonded to the characters in the way I wanted to be.
I love the little penguin books! In this one, we learn that penguins have an early bedtime and the little penguin just wants to make a wish on a shooting star. The book is playful and allows for reader participation, which is always a win for me. Lovely.
I truly loved this book. I thought it was cute how the penguin wants to fly, so he has to stay up late to make a wish on a star. However, the stars don't come out until AFTER penguin's bedtime, so his friends try to keep him awake. I love how this book has interactive features such as the child saying "Penguin, wake up!" When they see the penguin sleeping.
This was such a fun book that my children loved reading along with. It is pretty exciting to be a bedtime book but fun to read at other parts of the day. It is interactive which we love and the illustrations are beautiful. It also encouraged my kids to ask questions about penguins and their arctic friends for us to discover the answers to on our own. Overall, we really enjoyed this book!
I just love this series, and they even have beginner reader titles! In this one, kids would do different movements and join in with a repeated phrase in storytime. There are many questions to ask on each page spread, so it would be a fun storywalk, and it fits the SRP theme "Ocean of Possibilities."
Sweet story about a little penguin who wants to stay awake to wish on a falling star. His friends have commited to help him and he asks readers to do the same. Terrific for classes/families to participate and shout to wake him up when he nods off. In the end, readers see him get his wish. The illustrations are whimsical and capture the expressions of the characters.
This picture book is adorable and the perfect bedtime story! I love the illustrations and color scheme. And how can you not love a book about a little penguin trying to stay awake long enough to make a wish on a shooting star?
I love this interactive story about a penguin who wants to fly but has a very early bedtime. Having watched the movie "The Pebble and the Penguin" a ton, I really think he should be fleeing the orca whale, but ok....hahah.
It's about a Penguin who tries to stay awake and make a wish however he always seems to fall asleep. However this time will be different since his friend are going to help him.
The illustrations of the book are awesome.

Once again, Little Penguin recruits his dear readers, this time to help him stay awake. Needless to say, the kids had fun shouting at Little Penguin. I am sad there are only three. These books will be yearly read alouds for my kindergarten classes.
Still not as cute as the original, but much better than the lollipop one. Good for preschool storytime and possibly toddler storytime (might be a bit too much for younger ones).
Interactive read that asks audience to help wake up the penguin character every time he starts to fall asleep. Good for a young storytime crowd. 32 pages
