"You are the bridge between history and His story." Kris Vallotton
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. For starters the first chapter is titled, "History Makers"! Just this chapter alone is filled with encouraging words for those of you that are called to impact the globe (which is all of us!). From start to end, Kris gives great instruction and strategy while calling us to take our stand with Christ and with the love of Christ against a society of darkness. In this he reveals a great key to our warfare, "We are to be honorably confronting with people." This is a reality that I am growing in and feel like it is something all believers must be equipped with. The revelation and truth in this book will break down your walls of thinking and start getting you excited about what's in front of you. In this stirring it will cause you to start taking big steps into the supernatual! Kris outlines his own personal core values, as well those for a supernatural ministry to help encourage the reader to take serious the importance of having this foundation. There is a new mind set and pair of lenses that are revealed through Kris' own personal walk with Christ that he shares as well as some great insight on the heart and words of Christ. The whole book is filled with scripture and examples of those mentioned in the Bible that walked in the supernatural. This really is a practical guide and it will renew your mind and open your eyes to start seeing things that you have heard before, but in a very new and inspiring way. One of Kris' personal stories that completely blew my mind, was about his walk in the prophetic. It is an incredible story and because I want you to read it yourself I will just quote the last sentence, "You can alter the course of world history through prophetic declarations." So if you are done with just hearing about the supernatural lifestyle and you want to start encountering it...this book will give you direction and encouragement to jump right in!
The main point Kris Vallotton makes in his book is this: There’s a gap between what should be and what it is, so we must equip all believers to do ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit, developing a supernatural lifestyle.
Since we live in a corrupted and broken world, the Body of Christ is called to “rise up” and fight the darkness covering our cities and neighborhoods. After all, he believes “we are in the midst of the greatest revival in human history.” So Christians should walk as God’s ruling royalty to bridge the gap.
The Church must be creative and be known by the things we are able to do rather than be known by the things we don’t. This point serves as a warning against religion, which he compares to Kryptonite for Superman. He believes that religion makes brilliant minds conform to mindless zombies, repeating things they don’t understand. He even calls religion the father of “genetic cloning” in the next paragraph.
Vallotton associates religion, the lack of understanding of the spiritual world, and risk-aversion believers with everything that is wrong in Christianity. Ironically, he shares personal examples of faulty Orthopraxis in his prophetic ministry. Nevertheless, there’s a world in need, crying for help, and the Church is called to transform the world making disciples of all nations. But instead, he says that Christianity has been relegated to be a subculture, begging for relevance.
He affirms that the Church is called to function in the ministry of reconciliation and seeking the welfare of society. Seeing this through the lenses of Dr. Mabry’s Christotelic framework, Vallotton argues for the priestly role of the church and its unique mission of making disciples of the nations. He is convinced the church can accomplish this mission by teaching the nations how to think and demonstrating the benefits and rewards of the kingdom of God, rather than being intrusive or combative. At the same time, he affirms our calling to battle against the power of darkness and thinks that much of the Church is ignorant of the spiritual world.
I think this book is well intended but poorly written. The Church is seen from a very American point of view. The arguments crumble easily because they are made without solid and accurate theological knowledge. And, to make matters worse, it seems that Vallotton is Bill Johnson Superfan #1.
Supenatural lifestyle???!!! Yes that's how most will respond. Sadly enough this kind of lifestyle is like the super advanced stage of Christianity in this day and age. To others, its not even a stage or an option when it should be the norm. This is unfortunate especially in the age where the 'evil' super natural is hyped to the uptenth power. Books, videos, movies, literature etc. Are all proliferating American households with Wicca, zombies, werewolves, magic, sorcery, palm reading etc. It therefore behooves believers to embrace that Spirit led life that we are called to in Romans 8. Vallotton illustrates this kind of life to the reader with a fresh boldness that helps the readers see the importance of desiring that which the Holy Spirit has already made available. He illustrates from personal tales the different ways the giftings (i.e. prophecy, miracles, tongues etc.) of the Holy Spirit help in the building of the body of Christ. Our desiring to live this lifestyle is akin to desiring the health of ones' body. On the flip side, Mr. Vallotton writes from a seemingly comfortable and lax perspective especially in regard to his way with words. To those scholars who are used to mind-boggling phrases and statements, they might become bored or think this subject is being taken too lightly. Overall, I would encourage this to be overlooked and the main message to be embraced. living the Spirit led life is possible and it infuses life into believers like nothing else can. Enjoy!
I borrowed this book from a Christian friend of mine, mostly for boald claims in the back cover: “Equips the Body of Christ with supernatural weapons of warfare that will catapult you into your divine destiny”. Great copywriting, indeed. I’m not a member of Christian church, and I was simply curious to learn more about miracles and ‘ultimate’ level of Christianity.
I liked the book, and if I was a Christian myself, I’d probably give 5 stars, because the book is filled with clever notions how Bible should be interpreted, and how most people simple simply get it wrong.
Chapter “Wearing Son-Glasses” was about Personal Mission in life, and it was useful, regardless of your spiritual preference. It reminded me of the similar chapter in the famous book “7 Habits of Highly Successful People”, simply with a religious twist. I believe everyone of us should write down our life values to lead a meaningful life with a direction. Otherwise we will be just coasting along (like many are)
Also, the last few chapters about miracles were interesting. The author writes about several occurrences of receiving “word of God”, in which God asks him to do something (typically to some other person in pain). When the author acts on it, he heals these people. True or not, these are fascinating read. I think the need for spiritual/emotional well-being is in such a high demand and so under-supplied in the Western World we live in. Small interventions by a Pastor might change life direction of people who are struggling in a way or an another.
Before reading this book, I've never heard about Kris. But he's now definitely in my radar of some of my favourite authors! I love his candor and authenticity! Here are some of my favourite thought-provoking portions from this book... "The devil has been cast down from Heaven and no longer has access to God. So how does he accuse people before God day and night? He sends Christians, who do have access to the throne, to do his dirty work for him! We make agreements with his accusations and release curses on people. It is extremely important that the mighty weapons of our warfare don’t fall into the hands of the enemy and destroy the very people we are supposed to be preserving." “The Holy Spirit is imprisoned in the bodies of unbelieving believers.”
I found what enchanted me the most is that when you are a Believer in Christ Jesus, it isn't just about reading the Bible but also experiencing the Bible. Actually living what others have experienced and since those others are just as broken as I am then it gives me Hope that I too can have an actual relationship with my Creator and have a fulfilling one as well. Very Encouraging and a joy to learn these things and apply them!
Great book! If you're ready to actually live the Christian God-empowered life, Kris Vallotton is genuine, open and shares examples of the different arenas where the supernatural should be a part of our daily lives. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Miracles abound and are happening all the time. Excellent book!
Powerful, insightful, challenging, enriching - Kris truly opens a world for those desiring a deeper walk with the Lord while being equipped to do the work of ministry. An absolutely must read for pastors, teachers, prophets, and evangelists, and highly recommended for those actively pursuing a supernatural walk with God!
This is a great book filled with many great truths- if you receive them, determine to live them, can mean a more effective life in the Kingdom. He has a great sense if humour, and uses good similies to get the message across. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to live deeper, closer, more effective life in Jesus.
Praise for the book,Developing a Supernatural Lifestyle : a practical guide
Truly it is a very practical handbook for developing a supernatural lifestle for those who are already living, breathing a lifestyle of supernatural. And for those who are new, this will be a good book with comprehensive details explanation and understanding on how to live a supernatural lifestyle
I think this was helpful, I've just personally found some better resources for me. Every book was actually meant for a specific type of reader, no matter how much I may live in denial about it for a time. (Listen to your instincts and intuition, they are a part of how God speaks to you, if you don't have itching ears.)
One of the most "So my thinking isn't crazy" books I've read. I learned some viewpoints i had not thought of and the book confirmed and expanded on some things i have thought on.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I took my time reading this because Kris really makes you think and evaluate some things about your walk while providing vital wisdom throughout this gem. I suggest all Christians read this. This is one of those books you go back to time and time again.
This book is about prophetic practice in our life and other practice which usually called supernatural. The author argue to not live in the old Prophetic ways, but in the new way.
One of the best books I have ever listened to in my life, the content is forever life changing - I recommend this book 100% to any Christian wanting to know the further depths of God
Fantastic book about living with a spiritual mindset by the power of Holy Spirit. I learned many new things from it. It was a difficult to get time to read, but I'm very glad that I did!
Too much of a self centered approach and very little of the Gospel in here. You will fall more in-love with yourself instead of Jesus, and that’s the problem.
This book has dramatically shaped my life and how I live it. I'm grateful for all of the time, energy, passion, diligence, stories and more that Kris poured out to write this book. If he hadn't I would not have had the privilege of being impacted by it. God used the principles in this book to encourage me, challenge me, and cheer me on as i began my own journey into a supernatural lifestyle. It's an absolute life changer if you allow it to be. God will ruin you for the ordinary and empower you for the extraordinary.
Great read, not overwhelming either. An inspiring book on life with the Supernatural God, how His followers can effect this world and different ways God speaks to us.
I recommend this book as a introduction to what our spiritual lives cool be like. I definitely want this kind of life.
Filled with great stories of who our God is and how He loves and moves in peoples lives.
I enjoyed this book. However, it did not answer my search to know/accept God more into my life. Interesting to know if one would listen more closely, one's life can certainly change. I have difficult changes coming into my life and I am trying to sort the difficulties out. This book did not quite help.
