Favorite Quotes:

It was Gopher Tate, and he threw open his heavily lined raincoat to flash her. He had a blue bow tied around his wrinkly junk that was covered by a pair of whities that weren’t so tight. They were at least three sizes too big, and the elastic in the waist was shot… Shelby gave him a glare that was colder than the sleet pelting his thinly covered privates. “Close your coat, Gopher, before you have to explain to the ER folks why you got frostbite on your wanger.”

She was reasonably sure that had she been wearing toenail polish, it would have melted, too.

Seems a shame to let the pizza go cold after you slaved over the phone to order it…

The cat was there, sitting by a nearly empty food and water dish and glaring at Callen as if he were responsible for multiple crimes against felines and humanity.

My Review:

Delores Fossen has gifted us with the early Christmas present of a new series, and she has started it off with her own special blend of damaged yet sexy and lovable heroes, clever wry humor, heart squeezing storylines, colorful and quirky small-town characters, and a sweet romance with delectably steamy bits. I always look forward to meeting her amusing and uniquely peculiar characters and she didn’t disappoint with the introduction of Rosy - the armadillo obsessed geriatric bride-to-be with a taxidermy shop called Much Ado About Stuffing; and Gopher - the pervy elderly flasher who was well known yet never actually naked under his raincoat. As always, her storylines were engaging, entertaining, and well-paced. I’m already primed for the next installment.

LONE STAR CHRISTMAS (A Coldwater Texas Novel #1) by Delores Fossen is a holiday contemporary romance that has the perfect blend of laughter, tears, family and romance. This is the start of a new series featuring the Laramie brothers and the small town of Coldwater, Texas.

Buck McCall has taken in difficult to place foster kids onto his ranch with the help of his housekeeper, Rosy for decades. They are going to finally marry and Buck wants nothing more than to have Callen return home for the wedding because he needs help because of secret he is keeping.

Callen Laramie left Coldwater at the age of eighteen and never looked back. Even though Buck gave him and his brothers a good home, he had too many bad memories he wanted to leave behind. He is now a rich cattleman in Dallas. He has no intention of going back to Coldwater, even for the wedding until Buck’s daughter, the one who was always off limits, shows up in his Dallas office personally asking him to come home because she is worried about Buck.

Shelby McCall has grown into a beautiful spitfire who trains and rehabs horses. She is excited for her father and Rosy’s wedding, but she also feels that her father is keeping a secret about his health. She wants Callen home, not only for her father, but for herself. She wants what she could not have when she was too young. Even if Callen will not stay, she plans on having, even if only for Christmas, the one who left her behind.

Callen and Shelby were wonderful main characters to start this series off. His dark and hurt to her light and love. Callen had so much to deal with, Buck’s secrets, reuniting with his brothers and dealing with the past. Shelby was always there and helping him even as it broke her own heart. The secondary characters in this book could have easily overshadowed the main romance, but Ms. Fossen did a great job of making them quirky and interesting without overshadowing Callen and Shelby’s story. This book has small town characters that made me laugh out loud and a swoon worthy HEA. There are well written sex scenes that have as much heart and laughter as heat. I am looking forward to the rest of the Laramie brothers’ stories. This is a wonderful Christmas romance that I can highly recommend!

This was a good start to my Christmas cowboy romances! I adore Delores Fossen's books so I was excited about this one. This book made me laugh and also it has some pretty steamy scenes for our two main characters.

The secondary characters really stole the show for me. I loved Lucy and Mateo and wanted the best for them, I couldn't wait for Buck and Rosy to get married, and I especially loved seeing all the Laramie brothers connect again.

Now I'm not saying that I didn't like the romance. I really enjoyed the storyline between Shelby and Callen, I just didn't feel like it was anything more than lust. Almost every interaction between that could have been more, was turned into sex. Every time! I would have liked to see them connect a bit more really show that this was becoming more than a holiday fling.

All in all, we get some good Christmas feels, a wonderful family, and some steamy scenes. I can't wait to read about Judd's love story next.

Lone star Christmas Delores Fossen
Five stars
I was sent this book for a fair and honest review.
Callen Laramie has had a tough past, he and his brothers were in the foster system where they all still have their demons to put to rest. Finally they were placed with Buck Mcall. The man was great but the memories were too hard and when he was 18 Callen packed his bags and moved. He left his past in his reviewer mirror and never looked back.

Now it’s fourteen years later, and he’s a hot shot cattle dealer with more money than he knows what to do with. He’s back in the tiny town that took him in and that he ran from, his foster father is getting married but that isn’t what brought him home, that was the secrets being hidden in the tiny town, and the girl he has secretly longed for since he was a scared teenager. Will this Christmas season make everything right in his life? From his brothers he hasn’t spoken to in years to that aforementioned girl. This is a Christmas to remember.

I loved this book. It had me wanting to reach for the tissue’s more then once. As family, the past, secrets and the furture all collide in this story of redemption and beating the ghosts that haunt you. Love is at the forfront or should I say trying to out run it. There is angst but in reality it’s low angst just enough to tug at the heart strings but know things will end up okay. Five solid stars for this great book out now and can’t wait for the next Laramie brother’s story out in march.

Who in their right mind sends a wedding invitation for a Christmas Eve wedding decorated with a stuffed armadillo wearing a bridal veil, draped in gold tinsel and carrying a bouquet of poinsettias? Callen Laramie isn't surprised to see the wedding invitation was sent by Rosy Muldoon inviting him to her wedding to Buck McCall, Callen's foster father, but the wedding is to take place in Coldwater, Texas. "No way" is Callen's first thought. He left Coldwater eighteen years ago and has no intention of ever returning. Too many bad memories that still overshadow all the good Buck McCall had done for him and his brothers. Callen notices a hand-written note on the bottom of the invitation which says, "Please come. Buck needs to talk to you. Rosy" That made it really tough for him to decline but decline he does. That decision sticks until he gets a surprise visit from his childhood sweetheart Shelby McCall, Buck's daughter. Shelby decides to "take the bull by the horns" and go to Dallas where Callen runs Laramie Cattle to appeal to him in person. There's something wrong with Buck. She just knows it - an x-ray, something showed up, nothing to worry about according to Buck. Wrong. She is plenty worried, worried enough to pull out all stops to get Callen back to Coldwater if that's what her dad wants. But the cost is a French kiss?

Shelby does convince Callen to return to Coldwater. Thus begins a fun, laugh-out-loud book. There are super puffy pink wedding dresses with sequins galore, nunchucks as a Christmas gift, replicas of Billy the armadillo everywhere and lots more fun. Everyone knows everyone else's business in this small town. Poor Shelby can't even have a run-in with her ex-fiance in the town bake shop without all the townsfolk inside and outside the shop stopping to stare and try to listen. Local citizen Hattie Dapplemore is even using binoculars in the parking lot of the diner to watch to see what might happen.

Author Delores Fossen has managed to hit all the highlights of an excellent book. She has very likeable characters, a great storyline and tons of humor in this story. She also manages to convey the Christmas spirit with a touch of humor. Delores Fossen conveys the emotions and feelings of the tragedies of her characters very well so the reader feels included in the good times as well as the bad times. This book is the first installment in the author's newest series, Coldwater, Texas. Lone Star Christmas is a delightful read - a book not to be passed up!

As usual, there were several laughs as I read this contemporary holiday romance. Ms. Fossen fills her HQNs with quirky characters and uniquew situations. This one, I felt, had more touching moments, as well. At the core of the story is the impact of good parenting. Buck, the elder statesman of this story, is the true hero, imo. Besides his daughter Shelby (the heroine), he has opened his ranch and his heart to many foster children over the years. Now that he is in trouble with his health, those foster kids--now grown up--come back to help him. The heroes of the Coldwater, Texas series are the Laramie brothers: Callen, Nico, Kace and Judd--4 brothers whom Buck took in when they needed a safe place. Horrendously scarred by their past, these boys have grown into strong, sexy men. They'll do whatever is necessary to take care of the people they love, especially Buck and his bride-to-be, Rosy. Falling in love along the way and healing themselves is an added bonus.

I teared up twice reading this book--once in the wedding scene, and again at the end when Callen and Shelby exchange Christmas gifts. But I won't give away any spoilers.

Loved meeting the Laramie brothers! Can't wait for Judd's book.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: https://romancingthereaders.blogspot....

It seems I've been on a Christmas reading roll. They Christmas season isn't even here and I've already read more then ten holiday books. Crazy right! If I had wanted to find this many to read during the holidays I wouldn't be able to.

I will say I've been enjoying reading them. They have really help put me in the mood for buying new Christmas decorations and doing my holiday crafts.

Today I'm reviewing Lone Star Christmas which is book #1 of Fossen's new Coldwater Texas series. I really love starting new series. It's a plus when that new series is a Christmas cowboy story.

I found Lone Star Christmas to be a wonderfully written story. It's full of laughter, fun characters and touching moments. I loved this small-town. It was so much fun. The other characters really made it for me. More then once they gave me a chuckle.

There are very many moments in this book that make you think, in a good way. I enjoyed the interaction between Callen and Shelby. These two have history and as kids aren't allow to be romantically involved. They aren't kids anymore.

I'm so glad that Callen came home for his foster father's wedding and to be there when his foster father Buck needs him. Sometimes you have to be there for the people who were there for you.

This is truly worth the read. My only small issue with the story is that it didn't have enough holiday spirit in it. Other then some decorations it wasn't till the end of the story that it felt holidayish. For those who don't know I love the holidays with all the fun times and decor so maybe I was asking a lot from the story. Not everyone is crazy like me.

"Lone Star Christmas" was a sweet holiday novel about all the things we do for family (however we define it). Callen left home- his final foster home- when he came of age and hasn't looked in the rear view mirror since. He's now a successful businessman in Dallas, where his assistant/secretary, Havana, fondly refers to him as Scrooge. However, when he receives a wedding invitation for Christmas Eve with a personal note on it, he knows his comfortable life is about to change.

While he initially plans to decline due to already having work meetings planned, the note gives him pause. As it is his 70-something-year-old foster father (the only one who was good to them), Buck's wedding to his long-term girlfriend, Rosy, a taxidermist and eccentric but super-kind woman, Callen calls some people he hasn't talked to since he left to find out why. In the process of calling one of his brother's, he is handed over to Shelby, Buck's daughter, who he was warned he would be castrated if he touched. He assumes the same message stands, although hearing her voice brings up a lot of memories- he had a big crush on her when they were teenagers.

Shelby is worried about her father, Buck. She knows there's something going on with his health, but he is shutting her out. Although he has had and helped many foster children over the years (including some he currently has), he asked for Callen specifically. Shelby is determined to convince Callen to come, and she travels to him to do so. When she sees him, it brings up all the feelings she had for him when they were teenagers. Combined with the ideas Havana put in her head, she offers a french kiss if he comes back to town- one which Callen is tempted to take.

As Callen returns to town and learns more about what ails Buck, he reconnects with his brothers and meets the new foster children, who are carrying as much hurt and pain as he did himself when he came to Buck. To add on to that, he can't seem to keep himself away from Shelby- who, Buck has told him, he will no longer be castrated for touching. As he reconnects with the town and its many quirky citizens, Callen begins to heal.

This was a really sweet story with some really great messages. I also loved a lot of the side characters, including Lucy and Mateo, the new foster kids, who are healing from their painful past, Ted, who runs a shop selling all sorts of crazy things, and Havana, Callen's clever assistant. Add that to the wonderful main characters- Callen, Shelby, Rosy, and Buck- and you really have a winning cast for this book (and future books in this town). There's a lot happening during the weeks leading up to Christmas and the wedding, and there is never a dull moment! I won't give details so that you can get there yourself, but so much happens in this book. I really enjoyed the journey, and I definitely want to spend more time in this town!

If you love second chance romance and quirky characters who will make you laugh and care for them, then this is definitely the book for you! I highly recommend it! Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Lone Star Christmas by Delores Fossen is FABULOUS! I absolutely enjoyed this second chance story about Callen and Shelby. Coldwater Texas is such a lovely place to visit. Callen had a major chip on his shoulder and needed a reminder of what was important and who would always be there for him. I am so glad I got to read this book it was really a blessing to see the way this family came together!

This continues my trend of Christmas stories that are okay/average/good, but not great.
Callen and his 3 brothers were put in foster care and moved into Buck's home when Callen was 14. He had a stable, loving home for the first time, so what does he do once he turns 18? He leaves his small town and didn't visit for 14 years. He had very limited contact with Buck and his brothers for 14 years. He only returns because there is something wrong with Buck (and if you were to guess, chances are you would be right). The lack of communication/visits confused me because it didn't make sense to me. Buck turned their lives around (and Callen mentions his home was a great home) and Callen's response is to essentially ignore him for 14 years?
Another thing that bothered me was Buck's secrecy regarding his news. Does he tell his wife to be (he is getting married in about 4 weeks- on Christmas- when the book starts/news arrives)- that would be a no. Does he tell his daughter? Nope. Does he tell Kace/Nico/Judd (Callen's brothers who did stick around)? Nope. He tells Callen- WHO HE HASN'T SEEN FOR 14 YEARS AND SWEARS HIM TO SECRECY. Oh and then there's a secret about Shelby's mom that he tells Callen too. That just made no sense to me/pissed me off. My family better not pull that shit with me.
I thought Callen and Shelby's relationship was more about sex and I would have liked more talking between them. The secondary characters were the bright spot for me in this one (Rosy, Havana, Mateo, Lucy). The other books in this series are about the brothers, but I don't think I'm really that interested. I did like the writing.

Lone Star Christmas is Delores Fossen at her best! Get ready to saddle up with the sexy Laramie Brothers. Up first Callen, with those hot looks that man can melt a snow glacier 50 miles away.

Callen is one of Buck McCall's foster kids. The Laramie Boys came to Buck's foster home {a last placement for hard to place kids}. After receiving a wedding invitation for Buck and Rosy's wedding and a mysterious visit from Shelby McCall which carried bad news about her dads health, Callen found himself driving toward the one place he vowed never to return to ever...His home to of Coldwater, Texas.

Shelby McCall has been half in love with Callen Laramie her whole life the very thing she thought she kept a secret, but in the days to come she will find out a lot of things that will tip her world upside down. Shelby knew she had to brave the face to face with Callen, he swore he would never return to Coldwater. Something was up with her dad, now she had to convince Callen to come home so she could find out what was going on.

I truly enjoyed the budding passion that built between Callen and Shelby. It was fun, lighthearted, passionate and tender. Their heat for each other is evident, but so is their friendship. I have to say the best part of them for me is the gift exchanges. Priceless.

The supporting characters Kace, Judd, Callen, Nico, Buck, Rosy, Havana, Ted and the other foster children only enhanced the plot line. The plot is having the prodigal son return home, the home town that held scary memories he has tried to out run. As Callen tries to work out everything in his head, Can he fixed what is broken in his heart? Shelby is willing to try and help Callen deal with the mild wide gap between him and his family, but what will she do about her own heart matters?

I could not get enough of Lone Star Christmas OH Lord Billy the Armadillo had me laughing so much and wishing I could be a member of Buck and Rosy's wedding. Delores Fossen stories always leave me with a full heart. Her characters are strong, independent, and down right pleasurable. Judd Laramie's story is next coming in March 2019. Hot Texas Sunrise. I can't wait. Here is the line up on the Coldwater, Texas series:

LONE STAR CHRISTMAS, Book 1, Sept. 25, 2018
HOT TEXAS SUNRISE, Book 2, March 26, 2019
SWEET SUMMER SUNSET, Book 3, July 2019

I never thought I would ever find a novel that went from the horrors of child abuse, to attraction, broken engagements, cancer, foster children, a flasher, a mooner, and a wedding complete with a shower of sequins and a stuffed armadillo named Billy, and sheer and utter zaniness, which made me laugh out loud one minute and cry the next, and utterly charmed me, but Delores Fossen managed to fit all of the above into one incredibly heartwarming Christmas story, and I absolutely loved every minute of it. This is the first novel in her Coldwater, Texas series and it's most definitely a 5-star read.

Buck McCall, a Texas rancher with a big heart, spent his adult life taking in battered, abused, and troubled foster kids, giving them a place to live, a way to work out their anger, and find loving, kind, forever homes for them. He began with the four Laramie Brothers, Callen Judd, Kace and Nico, two of whom were badly beaten and broken when he took them in. They are grown men now, and Buck gave them a home and a purpose. The only one who left Coldwater was Callen, and he hasn't been back since he left there at age 18, leaving his 3 brothers and Buck's 14-year-old daughter, Shelby, who had a major crush on him, behind.

Callen is now a rich and highly successful cattle broker, based in Dallas, and when he first gets a message to return to Coldwater he ignores it. But when a now fully grown Shelby arrives at his office to reissue that request because Buck requested his presence at his wedding to his long-time housekeeper, Rosy, he can't refuse. What neither he nor anyone else on the ranch knows is that Buck needs to tell Callen a secret, and have him take care of a number of things without anyone else in the family knowing, and it's a request Callen simply can't refuse.

Shelby is now a a beautiful grown woman who, up until quite recently, was engaged to Gavin, a local man, but he ended their engagement, and everyone in town thinks she's nursing a broken heart, but she isn't. Having been placed off-limits to the young Laramie brothers by her father almost as soon as they arrived at the ranch, Shelby is still far more interested in Callen than she ever was in her fiance, and she also has a gut feeling that there's something wrong with her father that has him demanding that Callen return home, and she's not wrong about that, but when Buck confides in Callen, he also swears him to secrecy until after the wedding--and it's a secret that's hard to keep. Shelby has already decided that she's finally old enough to do something about her longtime crush on Callen, even if he's only back in Coldwater for a brief visit.

Then there's Rosy, Buck housekeeper and the love of Buck's life, and she's as wacky and lovable a character as I've encountered in many years. Her hobby is taxidermy, and her kooky insistence on including Billy the stuffed armadillo into everything from the wedding invitations to becoming part of the wedding party had me in stitches, as did her choice of wedding attire, and her making every girl or woman she encounters a bridesmaid--I think I lost count of the number of them at 41.

Buck and Rosy have also been trying to help troubled, battered and abused siblings, Mateo and Lucy, find a forever home. They are the two most recent foster kids that Buck has brought to the ranch, and they too factor into this complex blended family. The secondary characters in this novel are as interesting and compelling as the main characters, something else that made this novel a rather remarkable read, because each one of them is a fully fleshed out character, rather than just a walk-on, and I'm assuming they will become primary characters as this series continues.

With everything else that's going on at the ranch, Callen and Shelby finally give in to their attraction to one another, but that too is often sidelined by members of the family, Callen's trying to conduct his business long-distance, Buck's declining health, Gavin trying to get back in Shelby's good graces, Callen trying to keep Buck's secret, and an odd assortment of weird and wacky local characters in town, as well as a budding relationship between Nico and Callen's equally quirky personal assistant, Havana. Shelby is well aware of the fact that she's in love with Callen, but expects that after the wedding, he'll head back to Dallas, leaving her behind yet again. As if that's not enough, out of the blue, Callen gets a surprise visit from his violent, abusive, and alcoholic stepfather. How deftly Ms. Fossen managed to pack all of this into one cohesive, heartwarming story simply amazed this reader.

While you'd think that there was simply too much going on to be able to follow the central plot, Ms. Fossen made it all work beautifully, and the Christmas theme only added to the charm of this novel. It was an excellent read and I think you'll find it as moving, funny, emotional and entertaining as I did, and I highly recommend it.

I voluntarily agreed to read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Lone Star Christmas is the first in a new series set in the small town of Coldwater, Texas. This is Callen and Shelby's story. Callen hasn't been home since he left in his beat-up truck years before. He intends to never go back until he finds out something might be wrong with his foster father, Buck. Shelby was the girl who was off limits, but now they are adults. Can she convince him to come home for good?

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance. It was cute, funny and emotional all at the same time. I loved the characters, the small town gossip train and the laugh out loud moments. I'm not sure I'll ever look at cake toppers the same way again. That wedding would have been a sight to see in real life. Callen and Shelby were great together. I was rooting for Callen to find some healing from his past and see that coming home would help him. He and his brothers went through some thing horrific. I can't wait to see the other three brothers find their HEAs, especially Judd.

I highly recommend this one. It was a fun book to read and I look forward to the next Coldwater, Texas story!

The Laramie brothers have arrived! Delores Fossen is taking us to the small Texas town of Coldwater where there is no shortage of memorable characters. From laugh out loud moments of “Dookie Head” being shouted from car windows to unconventional wedding plans of a pink tulle loving taxidermist, you simply cannot miss out on this ride!

Callen Laramie ran from this town, his tormented past, and his family the day he turned 18. Head ‘em up, move ‘em out. In Dallas, Callen had built Laramie Cattle on that motto. When Callen receives an unforgettable wedding invitation (because who could ever forget a stuffed armadillo draped with gold tinsel, a bridal veil, holding poinsettias?) with a special message attached, he’s forced to return home for this Christmas Eve event. The circumstances presented to him by his foster father, Buck, have him temporarily setting up office at the Inn in Coldwater. After all, how can he not be there for the man that saved him and his brothers when he asks for help? Seeing Buck’s daughter, Shelby, again after 14 years away is a definitely a perk to this trip down memory lane.

Shelby McCall is the girl we all want in our lives, as a sister or as a friend. She is strong, independent, and loves her father more than anything. Well, ok, Callen Laramie has been a close second since she was a mere 13 year old girl. She was 16 when he left, hurt that he never thought to look in his rear view mirror to see what he was leaving behind. She was well aware of her father’s open threat for castration to any of his foster son’s if they even looked at her funny but Callen was different. She and Callen had chemistry, something they could never pursue. Until now. I won’t spill the beans but trust me when I say, there is no doubt the chemistry still exist for these two people!

Lone Star Christmas is a wonderful combination of heart, humor, real life obstacles, and a romance full of unexpected strings! ENJOY!

This book was okay. I liked it enough to read it all the way through but I have to say I didn’t really connect to the characters very much. I wasn’t invested in their story or the advancement of their relationships, even the secondary characters. It feels like I stepped into the middle of a series and should know more about the history of these characters so I’m wondering if maybe this series isn’t a spin-off of another? This is my first time reading this author so I’m not sure.

*Although this takes place at Christmas time, it didn’t really read much as a holiday romance.

I seem to be the only person who doesn't like this book. That being said I didn't get much past the first few chapters. I found the heroine to be so judgmental about others around her, and did't like anything. Maybe she will become less of a drag as the book goes on, but I'm not hanging around to find out.

[I received a copy from @harlequinpublictyteam for an honest review]

Lone Star Christmas by Delores Fossen is the first book in the Coldwater Texas series. It was a good start to a new series introducing us to a cast of characters I look forward to seeing more of.

Callen Laramie drove away from Coldwater Texas and didn't look back. He had a horrible childhood and even though his foster father Buck saved him and his brothers from the nightmare he needed to distance himself from the past. He has built himself a successful career as a cattle broker but his relationship with the only family he has is seriously lacking. When his foster father's health takes a turn he has to return to Coldwater Texas and face his brothers and his past.

Shelby McCall's father Buck has fostered a lot of children in his long life and none of them ever affected her as much as Callen. She can tell there's something wrong with her dad so when he makes it known he wants Callen at his wedding she does what she needs to in order to get him there. Even boldly offer him a french kiss, and she's more than surprised when he agrees to both.

Callen and Shelby lean on each other when things get rough with Buck. While she claims she's using him as a distraction and nothing more, Callen is finding the thought of walking away again harder and harder with the more time they spend together. Callen finds a peace being back in Coldwater not just with Shelby but with his brothers too.

Overall, Lone Star Christmas is a great heart-warming feel good read. The characters were great! Shelby was strong and independent and Callen was charming and dreamy. The brothers were all wonderful in their own ways from grumpy Judd to flirty Nico. I am excited to see them each get their own happily ever afters.

"My brain tells me it's not a good idea to kiss you, that it could lead to sex. And other things. Things you might not be ready for."

"Oh man. It was good. The kind of good that could get him in trouble very, very fast. He didn't remember that he was standing out in the open with their mouths fused together and their tongues playing around. Hell, he didn't remember his own name."

Lone Star Christmas is the first in a new series set in the small town of Coldwater, Texas. Callen , Laramie hightailed it out of Coldwater when he was 18, never planning to return. When he receives an invitation to the wedding of Buck, his foster father and his longtime girlfriend Rosy, Callen declines. When he gets a call from Shelby, Jake's daughter, he decides to head to Coldwater to find out what is going on. Shelby tells him Jake needs him. He is worried about seeing Shelby again, as he was in love with her all those years ago, and does not know how he will feel seeing her again. This is Callen's and Shelby's story. They must deal with some feelings that resurface, other family members, Buck's secret, the wedding and someone who tries to stir up trouble. Will they be able to find their way to each other? Will Callen decide to stay in Coldwater? Only time will tell.

I really enjoyed this romance, even though the sex scenes were a bit more descriptive than I am comfortable with. It was funny and emotional all at the same time, with a certain cuteness as well. I loved the characters, the small town, the gossiping townsfolk, and the laugh out loud moments. I still can't picture those beautiful red dresses with the added embellishments from Rosy on the QT. That wedding would have been a sight to see in real life. Callen and Shelby were great together. I was rooting for Callen to find some healing from his past and see that coming home would help him. He and his brothers went through some terrible situations. It was great to see, that even when angry that Callen took off never to look back, the brothers were there for one another when push came to shove. I can't wait to see the other three brothers find their perfect mate and Happily Ever Afters. If you enjoy a great romance with a bit of physical loving thrown in, family dynamics and an unselfish man who gave a home to many foster children, then you will love this story. I will certainly watch for more in this series. The publisher, HARLEQUIN, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Callen Larmaire thought he would never step back into the town of Coldwater, TX. When he left at the age of 18, he hadn’t ever really put another thought into it. But when Shelby shows up at his office in Dallas and asks him to return home for her dad, he just couldn’t resist.

Shelby’s dad was his foster father and he feels like he at least owes the man a visit since so many people think he needs his help. But what he finds when he gets to Coldwater, isn’t exactly what he was wishing for. Now that Callen finds himself back in Coldwater for a while, he needs to make nice with his brothers and hopefully not hurt the one woman he was never allowed to be near… until now.

This book is full of a lot of fun characters, steamy scenes, and love that comes from the heart. I’m a big sucker for Texas Romances and can’t wait for the rest of this series on the Laramie Brothers!

This was the perfect mix of emotional, funny, and gripping. I loved the characters in here. Shelby was kind, independent, and not afraid to go after what she wanted. Callen was a bit set in his ways, too stubborn for his own good...and a good man. Watching him change and deal with his past, as well as realizing his feelings for Shelby, made for interesting reading. I loved his brothers, and am definitely interested in their stories. The whole foster care thing was a very unique plot point. Speaking of which, I loved Buck, Shelby's dad and Callen and his brothers' former foster dad. Rosy, Buck's fiancee, was hilarious and just a touch out there. This small town was great, I found the book very hard to put down, and I'll definitely be back for more in this series.

Terrific start to the new series, with a steamy romance, fun characters, and a quirky small town. There are secrets to deal with, a wedding to attend, and memories to face. Callen hasn't been back in Coldwater since he left at the age of eighteen. There were too many bad memories, and he was determined to leave them as far behind as he could. He has no intention of ever going back to Coldwater, even when he gets the invitation to his foster father's wedding. It doesn't matter that there is a note attached that Buck needs to see him. Then Buck's daughter Shelby shows up at Callen's Dallas office to personally ask Callen to come because she's worried about her father. Callen had had a huge crush on Shelby as a teen, but Buck's threat to castrate any of his foster sons who even looked at her funny kept his feelings well hidden.

Shelby is excited about her father and Rosy's wedding, but she has a bad feeling that there is something seriously wrong with her father. If he wants Callen home for the wedding, she will do whatever it takes to get him there. She also had had a huge crush on Callen when they were younger and looked on this as a chance to have what had been forbidden to her before.

Callen only intended to make a quick visit to see Buck and find out what was on his mind. What he found instead was a man with a big problem and that he was the only one Buck trusted to take care of it. Callen isn't happy about the secrets Buck wants him to keep, but he packs up his office and his assistant and moves to Coldwater temporarily to help Buck out. Seeing Shelby again is a bonus, especially after Buck removes the threat of castration.

I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Callen and Shelby. The chemistry between them was explosive every time they were near each other. Shelby is well aware of the fact that Callen will not stay in Coldwater for long, but she's willing to take what she can get. Callen is up for a fling but also suffers some pangs of guilt because he's afraid of hurting her. The attraction between them leaped off the pages as they could not keep their hands off each other, but it was also clear that what they had was more than just physical. I loved seeing how tuned they were to each other and the protectiveness it brought out in both of them. There were some terrific scenes of Callen being there for Shelby when she most needs him. There were also a few times when Shelby showed how well she understood Callen and what drives him. There was a fantastic scene near the end where she supports him in a totally unexpected way. I ached for Shelby as her "no strings" promise looked like it would lead to another broken heart for her. I was a little worried about Callen and his plans, but he came through in a big way. I loved his Christmas present to her at the end. It was sweet, romantic, and symbolic of everything he had been fighting against.

The secondary characters and stories were wonderful. I loved Buck and Rosy. Buck's devotion to giving homes to those who most needed it was heartwarming. It was clear just how much he meant to those kids when the responses to the wedding invitations came rolling in. Buck was also stubborn and protective, which is what led to his attempts to keep the truth from Rosy and Shelby. Rosy was a riot. She had a huge heart and a sweet disposition. She was also a wee bit eccentric, as shown by her wedding plans. It was fun to anticipate just what she was going to come up with next, especially when it came to Billy, the stuffed armadillo. I loved Lucy and Mateo. The parallels between them and Callen and his brothers were heartbreaking. They were terrific kids, and I loved the way they looked out for each other, and how much they cared for Buck and Rosy. I was happy for them with the way things worked out at the end.

I also loved Callen's brothers. In spite of the way he had cut them out of his life when he fled Coldwater, they were still there for each other when needed. I ached for them all as the stories of their pasts were revealed. There was a fantastic scene at the end where they confronted a part of their past together, and I couldn't help but laugh as they did it. It was great to see Callen reconnect with them. I am looking forward to reading their stories.

There were plenty of other quirky characters in the small town. There was Gavin, Shelby's ex-fiancé, who had a hard time letting go, and his sister who had issues with Callen. The town flasher was a bit of a scene-stealer. Then there was Ted, the owner of the local junk shop, who ended up having quite an effect of Callen. I loved the scene of Callen in his shop as Callen did his Christmas shopping.

This was such a cute, quirky, and hilarious western holiday romance! I loved immersing myself in the small town of Coldwater and getting to know all its quirky and lovable characters.

Lone Star Christmas is my first Delores Fossen book and certainly not my last! I'm definitely keeping an eye out for the future books in this series. Similarly to her characters, Ms. Flossen's writing style is cute and quirky, perfectly in sync with the tone of the story. Her writing style is comparable to Sandra Hill's quirky writing in the Cajun Cowboys series. It's different, fresh, and flows at the perfect pace. I had such a fun time reading this book and I cannot wait for Callen's brothers to find their HEA in Coldwater Texas!

Thank you to Harlequin for my free copy.

P.S. Havana is an actual Queen. I think we could all use a friend who's as extra as Havana. Can she please get her own book?

P.P.S. I love Kace and his secret obsession with tiny cakes. I would love for him to end up with the baker *heart eyes*

This novel started off really well. I liked the writing style and I liked all the characters, but the further I read on, the more I disliked it.

The plot was great, and I couldn't fault it, but all the extra "hook up's" and sneaking around while the whole town knew what they were doing was certainly not to my liking.

By the time I reached the middle of the book, I found it to be boring and I wasn't intrigued to read any further. I skimmed through the rest of the book thinking it was too much yadda, yadda, yadda.

I am a lover of Christmas books, especially Christmas romance. I was very happy to be able to review Lone Star Christmas. Lone Star Christmas is a great story with vivid characters and great romance.

Callen Laramie left his hometown of Coldwater Texas when he was eighteen and in the fourteen years since then, he has amassed a fortune in cattle. The sad memories of his childhood have made him never want to return, even though his three brothers still live in Coldwater. His exemplary foster father from when he was fourteen to eighteen, Buck, has sent him a wedding invitation with a handwritten note that he really wants him to return for the wedding on Christmas Eve. Callen still isn’t convinced until Buck’s daughter, Shelby McCall comes to town to ask him to return and seals it with a passionate kiss.

Shelby has just been dumped by her fiancée but doesn’t feel anything. She does feel something when she sees Callen. As her father’s foster son, romance between the two was off limits when they were teenagers. Now that they are older, Callen discovers one of the reasons Buck had him return is that he now gives the approval for romance between the two. Buck is also very sick and wants Callen to help him out, so he can get to his wedding with Rosie. Callen agrees to stay to help until the wedding, but then he plans to return to Dallas. Will Buck make it to his wedding? Will Callen and Shelby be able to make their romance work?

I loved this novel. The story was compelling. Buck has spent his life time helping troubled kids who couldn’t foster anywhere else and trying to help them on their path. It impacted his marriage negatively and things have not always flown smoothly. Now at the twilight of his life, Buck wants to marry his longtime girlfriend Rosie and wants his daughter Shelby to find love. He also needs help with his last couple of foster children and finding them a placement. Buck also wants to settle lingering issues with Callen and help him find his happy ending. This story didn’t glamorize foster care, but it did show that there are certain people who are able to help troubled youth. They won’t get a perfect life, but they will get back on a better path. I really loved this story.

This is a romance novel and there are serious sparks, or I’d rather say flames between Shelby and Callen. There are several sex scenes throughout the novel, but they didn’t get too hot and heavy or unbelievable to me. The one that made me laugh out loud was when Shelby fell asleep waiting for Callen to come over and didn’t wake up until morning when Callen was leaving. That one seemed very real to me! Ha!!!

My only complaint is that I had to wait until the end to get to more Christmas items in this novel. It didn’t figure into the story much until then, but the decorations and Callen’s hatred of them did give me a good laugh.

Favorite Quote:
“He nodded. ‘It’s hard to explain why I kept it.”
Shelby shrugged. ‘You wanted to be in control of what you chose to keep from your past. A reminder of what you’d come from so that you wouldn’t go back.’”

Overall, Lone Star Christmas was an excellent book full of romance, great characters, and a touching story. I’d love to read about Callen’s brothers!

Callen Laramie is a busy business man who lives by himself, until he receives a wedding invitation from his former foster father, Buck, and Buck's longtime girlfriend, Rosy. He plans on just sending his regards and a gift, but then Shelby, Buck's daughter, shows up pleading for him to return. Callen has always lusted after Shelby, since they were teenager's on Buck's ranch, but she was off limits to Callen and his three brothers. Now they are adults and he can hardly resist the lightning storm of emotions between them.

I really enjoyed the writing in this romance novel, it pulled me right into this tragic tale of a damaged boy who grew into a closed off man. Callen was so scarred by his experiences before being placed with Buck and it shaped who he is as an individual. It was the reason he left Buck's behind to make his own fortune, the reason he disconnected from his brothers, the reason he is a lonely workaholic.

Shelby is strong, fierce, independent and pissed off that everyone in town assumes her broken engagement means she has a broken heart. She is actually relieved, as she realizes she never loved her fiancee. Her heart drove off in a truck with Callen years before. This wedding is a chance for her to reconnect with him or at least shed him from her system.

There were so many fun and original characters, with lots of sass, personality and love to share. The moments with Buck, Rosy and their two current foster kids are very real and touching. There is a lot of steam between Callen and Shelby. Their passion consumes the page. Sure there were moments I found too predictable and some parts I found too gushy, but overall I liked Callen and Shelby. These two are so independent, but clueless when it comes to their hearts.

A great read about redemption, justice, love, family and learning to heal. There is even a stuffed armadillo that adds a touch of much needed sweetness and humour here and there. In a novel with lots of pain, heartache and learning to grow, you need a funny, stuffed, dead animal wearing silly outfits to break the tension.

I received a copy of this book from the Harlequin Publicity Team for free, in return for an honest review.

Posted on What I'm Reading

Well, it's been a little more than a year since I last read a Delores Fossen book. My question to myself is why? Seriously, I have love her books. I guess I needed a Christmas read. Anyway, Lone Star Christmas was pretty good story. Plus, it sets the tone for the rest of the series. In her new series we will be following four brothers who had a rough life until they landed at Buck McCall's home. Now they are all grown up, and Buck has called them home for his wedding. However, Callen Laramie is a stubborn one, and they had to use another tactic.

All right, Callen was running from a lot of things, most important his past. There were some good things, but a lot of crappy things. However, one of the things in the past was Shelby McCall and fear at being castrated. Buck lifts that maybe a fling might be good to pass the time.

Shelby is Buck's daughter. She's watched all these kids come through her home. Some she's gotten to know well. However, one she had an attachment on for a long time. Maybe it's time for her to have a little fun with Callen. Also maybe folks might believe she's not broken-hearted from her broken off engagement.

Delores is a fantastic storyteller. She truly pulls you into a story and you feel for these characters. You want to see these characters get a happy ending, and they do. However, you have to read and find out. There are bumps along the way. Old fears creeping in here and there. Sometimes those fears do come back to haunt the characters; yes, you do wonder how it's all going to play out. I love how Delores intertwines these characters into a bigger picture. I can't wait to see how the brother's stories will play out in the rest of the series. This one focuses on Callen, but we do meet Judd, Nico, and Kace. Overall, a really fantastic start to a new series.

Lone Star Christmas shot right into my heart. What a delightfully ardent, heartbreakingly tragic, and cheerfully Christmassy story with laugh out loud humor drizzled into the mix to give it spice and cheer, delivering that all- around good feeling you get during the holidays.
Yes, I might have mentioned it many times that this series is my favorite cowboy series and this title just confirmed that top spot in my mind. From laughter to tears to smiles and to sighs to swooning, this story brought up, front, and center all the feels.
I absolutely adored Callen Laramie and Shelby McCall, as well all the other secondary cast and crew, especially the Laramie brothers - those brothers have that hot, complex hero thing going for them so strong and vivid, I can't wait to read their stories and destinies.
Callen and Shelby have had the hots for each other ever since the teenage years. The threat of castration and to save himself from his tragic past, Callen leaves the town at the age of 18, without looking in the rearview mirror. Now, years later, Callen and Shelby have the chance to live true those old (and not so old) fantasies, and oh boy, do they heat up the sheets and pages... Through those wildly passionate encounters, it comes tangible how the feelings between them start to grow, how 'no strings attached' comes to something much more, and how they count on each other to be there when the trouble comes knocking at the door.
I loved the story, from the very start Callen found his way to my heart with his conflicted family drama, and I found the book impossible to put down, keeping me up late into the night.
A marvelous Christmas romance novel, a fantastic family saga, and a deliciously desirous addition to the beloved series!
