Rather than making me feel empowered this book made my blood boil. What is so empowering about learning to do handiwork around the house, we all have brains and aptitude to figure things out, men are not born with manual on how to do these things, it is by trial and error. The glass ceiling exists so many years later because when women are making me the same as men they feel vindicated and if they are making less they attribute it to the glass ceiling. If more women stood up for the right to be treated as equals rather than showing they are a minority that are not being taken care of the glass ceiling would not exist today.

It was nice to read this book and these women’s stories. They made me feel proud of these women even though I didn’t know them. I guess as a woman I like to know other women are standing up for what is right, believing in themselves and making a difference.
The different sections contain stories with different themes.
Who Am I – stories about women realizing who they are or learning to be proud of who they are I Found My Courage – women finding their courageous sides Doing What’s Right for Me – women putting themselves first Going It Alone – women doing things or going places alone I Stepped Outside My Comfort Zone – women trying new or scary things Walk the Talk – women putting themselves out there Sticking Up for What’s Right – women taking a stand for what they believe in Time for Me – more women putting themselves first Figuring It Out Myself – women learning to do things themselves
I felt empowered just by reading the book. That’s not just a sappy statement that sounds good in a review. I really did feel like I could accomplish more and I felt stronger as a women by reading what other women have accomplished.
This would make a great gift for a woman in your life that needs a little push to be courageous and strong
Was mildly impressed by most of the stories that were supposed to be “inspirational.”
Learning how to use a hammer or picking up a dead rat aren’t inspirational, they’re normal parts of life. If this is supposed to empower women then that’s sad. We should be speaking to women as if they’re already capable of these things, not applauding them because they’ve just learned how. We’re better than this.
Granted, I understand that I might not be the target market for this book because it seems like the audience is middle-aged moms and empty nesters. I’m probably just experiencing the generational gap, because my generation is entirely capable of normal life and really only needs motivation to sit at the head of the table instead of just filling in the sides.
I can see how a generation from an earlier time might be inspired by this book because the times were definitely different and faced severe sexism when they were starting adulthood.
Good, short stories of strong women. I read it as part of my morning routine before picking up my phone/iPad. I enjoy starting my day on a positive note!
Niektoré príbehy ma zaujali viac, niektoré menej. Určite sa nájde pár,ktoré ma motivovali, ale pri ostatných som mala pocit takého umelého optimizmu a hrdosti.
An uplifting and refreshing collection of heartfelt essays from inspiring women writers. I strongly recommend this book as the sweetest and coziest bedside book. A chapter a night is the perfect antidote to racing, anxious thoughts. My story about fleeing Hurricane Harvey and driving across country is featured in this Chicken Soup for the Soul anthology.
