Some secrets can't stay hidden forever
One look was all it took.

A single chance encounter with her and I knew she was the one. She was everything I wanted but I knew there was no way she'd want a man like me once she found out about my past, and I was right.

Now that she knows about my demons, I've lost the woman I loved. I'm not giving up; she will be mine because I'm never letting her out of my sight.

2 stars mainly due to some decent narration, but even that couldn’t save this story

I hate to say that I felt utterly mislead about this book. The title is giving the impression the story is gonna be some dark, creepy, suspenseful and action packed-read. Alas, it was nothing of the kind. It was cheesy, sappy, predictable, slow and uneventful. The complete opposite of what I was expecting.

I couldn’t connect with the characters, neither feel their instant love for each other. Yeah, I get there’s love at 1st sight, but this didn’t make me feel anything for this couple at all. It was lacking any depth of emotions for me and the thoughts of the MCs sounded so repetitive and cliché that I kept rolling my eyes most of the time.

The story had so much potential and started somehow promising in the beginning, but then after the 1st meeting between the MCs, everything went downhill. No actual plot, very unsatisfying character development, too much sex scenes after one point and the ending part was the cherry on the cake of meesed up. The heroine acted like a petulant child after she found out Nick’s secret and the whole groveling on his part was ridiculous.

And after the ending, I was just staring at the wall for a whole minute saying: “Was that actually the end?! Well, at least it’s over.”

The only thing I liked in this audio version of the book I was given to review for free was the somehow decent narration. It was lacking emotions sometimes, but considering there were not many in that story, I can’t blame the guy reading it. I didn’t like that there were parts from male and female POV in the story but they were read by 1 and the same person. It made it difficult to follow because there was no distinction between male and female thoughts. They sounded the same to me in terms of words used by the author and then voice adaptation by the narrator. So this was confusing at times. His articulation was good and he had a sexy voice though.

So overall - no, I wouldn’t recommend this book and this story, but I might check more books read by Rodney Falcon in the future. The additional 1 star above is for his performance mainly.

After released from prison, Nick is hopeful that he can turn his life around and make a fresh start for himself. He gets that opportunity from a childhood friend and goes to stay with him . It’s there that Nick meets Alexa. Alexa is his best friend’s girlfriend BFF. For Nick, it was love at first sight. Alexa felt the chemistry and wanted to know more about him too but Nick was warned by his buddy to not let it be known he had spent time in prison or his girlfriend would give his buddy serious grief which would roll down to Nick. When Nick has a chance at this new life and it looks like a fresh start with a beautiful woman, Nick reinvents himself and his past in a hurry. Only thing Nick didn’t really think about was that Alexa would find out and she did. Alexa found out and demanded Nick leave her alone. Nick refused for he couldn’t leave his love alone. Nick’s love was the type that became almost obsessive, stalkerish. He did things that could have gotten him thrown back in jail but Nick did it in such a way that was sweet, showed love. But had this dark edge…Did Nick prove his undying love to Alexa or did he end up back in jail due to his stalkerish tendencies?
Derek Masters is a new author to me and I have to say,I really enjoyed “Stalker”. This is Nick’s story of hope, redemption and of true love. It is a love story that is built on secrets and lies and how the secrets and lies made the romance so messy and how the “hero” had some dark edges to him that lent a darkish tone to this romance. I enjoyed the dark flavor to this romance and would be interested to read this author again.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review..We meet Nick who has just gotten out of prison and is starting over fixing his life. He ends up meeting Alexa and is instantly interested in her. Alexa is not good at picking men, but she can't help her attraction to Nick. TAs they are trying to have a relationship it is instantly put to the test, because truths come out, can they overcome them or will Alexa give Nick a chance? Well you need to read..Enjoy!

Don't be fooled by the title, it's not one of those creepy stalker types of story; I felt like it was more of a yearning for or longing kind of story, if that makes any sense? Any ways, I love insta-love stories and Stalker was that. This story follows Nick, who was just released from prison for pleading guilty for a bar fight that caused some serious damage. He turns to a good friend of his to help get back on his feet and have a fresh start at life. He stays with his friend and his girlfriend. Enter Alexa, the girlfriend's friend. When Nick and Alexa meet, their attraction is sudden and steamy. Nick wants to do right by Alexa, even though he thinks he's not good enough for her, so he withholds some things (i.e. prison and a stripper turned prostitute?).

As their relationship progresses, Alexa discovers Nick's stint in prison and freaks out. She decides to end the relationship but Nick can't seem to let her go. His strong feelings towards Alexa causes him to stalker her, hoping she'll trust and let him back in. You'll have to read the story to understand this better.

I understand Nick's yearning for Alexa and longing for having a fresh start and Alexa's feelings about trust and honesty. The characters felt like they could be real people; those not giving up on someone they strongly feel about, wanted a second chance at life, trust issues, families, heartbreak, and moving on.

When rating books, I like to give a stars for the characters, climax, elements, ending, story overall and I give Stalker 3.5 stars because I wanted to know more about Nick and Alexa's background and the ending left me hanging (please tell me that was a cliffhanger, at least then I'll understand the ending better). All in all, the story overall was good. Nick's friend Curtis and his girlfriend Kim are lovable characters (I'd love to read about them!).

1.5 Stars because I liked the H and how motivated he was in getting the h.

The lack of stars is because the blurb and the genre was VERY misleading. This should be categorized as a quirky romance since there was absolutely nothing dark about it. He wasn’t even really a stalker. I’ve read books about stalkers, and the H in this book was just determined or persistent. The h was very forgettable for me. I didn’t see any real reason for the H to be so head over heals except for her being pretty. I couldn’t connect with her.

I loved the concept of the story, but it really fell short for me. It wasn’t dark so that really annoyed me. Also the ending was ridiculous and unnecessary.

This was such a great read. I loved everything about it. The cover is super hot and the blurb drew me in and had me wanting to read Nick and Alexa’s story.
i’ve read all books by Derek Masters and he has become a favorite. He has a way with words and storytelling. He also makes his stories relatable which is something I really enjoy when reading a book. This book is no different and won’t disappoint.
I really enjoyed the fact that this wasn’t your typical crazy stalker story and loved the author’s take on the idea. It was very well written and pulled me in from the very beginning. A story about a man looking for love and redemption. Who doesn’t love that?
The characters, Nick and Alex, were great and extremely likable.
Nick. Oh, Nick *sigh* He does anything he can to hold onto the love of his life. What a lucky girl! It wasn’t very difficult putting myself in Alexa’s place in the story because YUM!
I really enjoyed the twists in the story. Mr. Masters did a great job keeping me entertained and engaged throughout the story.
I highly recommend this story.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.

There were a lot of very well written super hot scenes in this shorter story. There was also an underlying story of love and devotion underneath that was particularly touching. I do wish we had gotten a little bit more interaction between characters to justify the level of love and just more depth of the characters in general because I really liked the author's writing.

The narrator gave us a great performance and his voice is just so super s....xy to listen to in this one. I do wish he would have had more voice differentiation when switching points of view, especially when he played Alexa. Overall, I was really pleased with the narration.

Relationships are complicated

Nick has a secret Curtis doesn't want his fiancee go find out.
Alexa has had crappy relationships. When you mix those two...well is a recipe for disaster. If you want a relationship just be honest as soon as possible. You may be surprise.
Beautiful story. But the truth will set you free. Honesty goes a long way. Great ending.

somethings just not "write"

So this is my third book I have read from this author and something is off. It seems that of all of the romance(dark, erotic, and wholesome) books I have read, and I have read PLENTY, no author describes her female protagonist in what feels like a sleazy, juvenile manner. "It's hard to find a woman that hasn't slept with the entire town and isn't a slut." as stated by the male protagonist . And we are expected to want him to get the girl!. Then it dawned on me, read the cover page, girl! And what do you know? It's a male writing these books. Dude, your syntax is probably better suited for Maxim. Don't they have short stories in the back of that magazine?

Where to start..... This is my first book by this author and I felt that Nick and Alexa’s story held a lot of promise, but I was kinda let down. The tag of this book says dark romance and it wasn’t even close to mildly dark. He had a weird fixation with her but it was pretty much all in his internal musings except for a few things that could be considered weird. Things were great for the first half (be warned the that story ended at 58% of the kindle book) of the book and then the heroine just became something I didn’t like and couldn’t connect with. Nick was sweet even with his quarks. I did like him. The story was fast paced and I liked that. I couldn’t love it though. I was expecting one thing and feel like I was misled by both the tag with the title and the description. And the ending.... I’m really not sure how to take that. Adding all this up; I hate giving reviews less then 3 stars but I really don’t think I can muster up enough that I liked to justify 3 star review. 2 stars #2OCCJD

Not for me...

I'm gonna be honest this book just pissed me off. *Possible spoilers ahead*

.................................................

If nick liked Alexa so much the first time he saw her why would he go to a strip club to get his rocks off (while calling the hooker Alexa) instead of waiting and getting to know her!? He should have been up front about his past from the get go. She was understandably mad when she found out all of his lies and half truths. If he loved her so much why would he hire a hooker (same one as before) to dress up in her clothes and act like Alexa while he was still trying to get Alexa back I might add! And wtf is up with that ending!!! A past mistake shows up and boom last page folks end of story! Then there's more loose ends that weren't tied up. Is there going to be another book? I am really frustrated with this story. I made myself finish reading it because I hate not finishing a book. There were several grammatical errors and missing words. I do not like leaving a bad review but this book is just all over the place crazy.

Nice storyline and plot. A story with instalove and attraction.
The characters are well described. Nick tries to turn his life into something good. Not the old bad guy but he wants a fresh start. Alexa is a woman that has not had luck with her choice of men. I am not into manwhores that just have to dip their manhood and get release. So lucky for me Nick changes through the story. There are cliches that I would rather had not been there.
I like it is written in dual POV which gives the reader both thoughts and feelings of the characters.
The story is about trust, giving a second chance and honesty with each other.

Stalker is a sexy, slightly out of the box romance. It's not dark really, but it is intense at times.

Nick is finally out of prison and looking for a fresh start. He had been in for 5 years for attempted murder, thanks to a bar fight, one he didn't start or even want to be in, where the victim ended up almost dying. Now that he's out, his best friend is letting him stay with him and his girlfriend. It's through Curtis' girlfriend, Kim, that Nick will end up meeting the love of his life, Alexa. One look at Alexa and Nick is hooked. It's a bit of insta love, but the relationship developed organically, not so fast that my head spun or anything. But, when Alexa finds out that Nick is an ex-con, how will she react? Will Nick have to start stalking her to get her to see how much he loves her?

I really liked Stalker, especially Nick's character. He's got to be one of the sweetest, most loving souls in fiction that I've read lately. Kind of weird considering he went to prison for attempted murder, but that's just how he is. He's head over heels in love with Alexa, and he has no problems showing her. He doesn't think he's good enough for her, though, and that's where their problems stem from. Thank God Alexa saw through Nick's scary outer appearance, though, and realized how good they are together, because if it ended with them apart, I would have cried.

The only thing that kept this from a 5 star review for me was the abrupt ending. It's rather cliffhanger-ish and I saw nothing to indicate there would be more coming for Nick and Alexa, which is a shame, because I think their story has lots more to be told.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Nick has just spent the last five years in prison after a bar fight went wrong.  He has no family as he was in the foster system all his life. The one person he does care for, and regards as a brother, is Curtis whom he met in foster care.  Curtis offers him and room and job until he gets back on his feet and Nick is really appreciative of him but asks that he doesn't tell his fiancée, Kim, that he's an ex-con.  Kim's best friend is Alexa, who is a stunning young woman who goes after what she wants and is making a good career for herself. But when the two of them meet there is instant attraction and they get to know each other. Nick is overjoyed that he's found a love that he didn't think he deserved and he will do anything to keep Alexa as his Forever! But a relationship based on lies is not going to work and secrets virtually always become public knowledge. How will Alexa react when she finds out about Nick's stint in prison? Do they stand a chance at a HEA?  Derek Masters has written a wonderful story here with a easy flowing style of writing, interesting and believable characters that I liked. I was a bit dubious about the title, but don't worry it's not creepy and dangerous.  This is the first book that I've read by Derek Masters, but it won't be the last.  I loved the way he wove their love story leading to a conclusion that I hoped would come to fruition.

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED

A well written book with all the emotions that keeps you from being able to put this book down.
Nick was numb in more ways than one. Five years he had been there never again. With nothing more than basically the clothes on his back he was free. Curtis was the only family Nick had, they meet while in foster care they thought of each other as brothers. Curtis had offered him a room with him and his fiance Kim to help him get back on his feet, although Curtis asked Nick not to mention to Kim that he was fresh out of prison. The first of many secrets and misleading truths to be told. Upon arriving with Curtis that laugh those curves that voice Nick's chest started to become tight he was staring at the most beautiful women he had ever met. Alexa she was short curvy and blonde we stared at each other like love struck teenagers. As time passes things heat up between Nick and Alexa. Nick couldn't believe he had found love. Until the biggest secret surfaced. Alexa felt betrayed Nick was devastated by her refusal to listen and let him explan what happened. Alexa refused to budge so Nick simply would accept her decision he became her stalker he couldn't walk away. After what seemed like forever her resolve at his refusal to leave her alone became too much. Read what happens next. I received a copy of this book and happily leave this review.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A well written story with a male lead who just breaks your heart with his past and the lengths he will go to secure a better future for himself. Overall, I liked the book, but for being marketed as a dark romance, there really wasn’t much darkness to it.

After spending the last five years in prison, Nick is ready to start over. On his first night of freedom he meets Alexa, a friend of his friend’s fiancée. He is instantly attracted to her, but is it an actual attraction or is it because she is the first woman he has been in contact with in five years?

Nick becomes obsessed with Alexa, constantly thinking about her and trying to find ways to see her. Eventually, they grow close and begin spending more time together. But Nick’s secrets and lies cast a dark shadow over them as he doesn’t want to disappoint Alexa like her previous boyfriends.

When Alexa accidentally discovers Nick’s imprisonment and the reason why, she doesn’t take it well. With Alexa not speaking to him, Nick’s world starts to crumble. Alexa is his world and he can’t let her go, so he begins stalking her.

Will Nick’s relentlessness push Alexa further away? Or will his willingness to show how much she means to him pull her back in?

Nick is a man trying to fix the wrongs he's made in the past. Getting out of prison he's finally getting the chance to redeem his mistakes and to make a better, different life for himself. He may not have many loved ones to turn to like the other inmates did but with the help of his best friend he's starting off on the right track. What he wasn't prepared for was to instantly be smitten with a beautiful woman named Alexa.
Alexa hasn't had the greatest luck in relationships, and has trust issues. When she meets Nick though she instantly feels a connection and the more time that she spends with him the stronger that connection grows. However, she will soon learn that he's been keeping a big secret from her, and when she takes some time to herself to process it - she's left with questions that she doesn't know quite how to answer. Will Nick be able to convince her to hear him out? Can he prove to her that their love is worth fighting for? Or will she be too stuck in her own betrayed and mistrusted past to move forward with her happiness?? Read it to find out!! This story will grab your attention within seconds. It will also show how far a man in love with go to keep the woman he loves with him, and prove that his love is true, as well as worthy.

This story I thought was going to turn out different by the title but it was a pleasant surprise. Nick just got out of prison for attempted murder. He was a foster kid had no family and his only friend was Curtis whom was also a foster kid after getting out he mer Curtis's girlfriend and her best friend Alexa and was instantly attracted to her. He wanted to know her not only intimately. He wanted to make her his.

Alexa is a good girl a little shy and when she meets Nick she can't even tell him her name. She does not know what has gotten into her. These two become good friends and their relationship advances, but Nick is keeping his past in prison from Alexa. What Happens when Alexa finds out about this past can she forgive Nick from keeping this from her. I liked this story it was another quick read and the story advances fast which I like. I loved how Nick knew from the start that Alexa was the woman for him and he treated her like a princess even though he kept some of his past from her. This was one couple I was hoping would get their HEA and this book does not disappoint.

Stalker by Derek Masters is one spectacular read. I loved every minute of it from the beautifully designed cover all the way to the very end. I love how this author can take a popular troupe and spin it in such a way that is totally unique and original only to him. This book is no different and will not disappoint. Don’t let the title of the book fool you as this is not your typical crazy stalker story. I was very pleasantly surprised with Mr. Masters take on the whole stalker idea. This book is fast-paced and very well written with a compelling storyline about a man looking for love and redemption. When he finds the love of his life, he will do anything he can to hold on to her. The characters are very well developed and extremely likable. There are a few twists and turns along the way that will pull you into the story, pull at your heartstrings and hold on to you until the very end. Derek Masters has proven his ability to captivate his readers with his amazing storytelling. Although I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout I am voluntarily leaving a review. Nick is the sweetest scary ex-con you will meet. For the past 5 years, Nick has been in prison. In that time, he has discovered all the “friends” he thought he had has all but disappeared except for Curtis, his only friend/family from his days in foster care. Upon his release from prison, Nick planned to stay with Curtis and his fiancé, Kim. When they arrived back home Nick meets Alexa, Kim’s best friend who he is drawn to as soon as he sees her and vice-a-versa.

This story had me hooked from the start. The emotions and heartbreak felt so real. Both had their issues…Nick grew up in they system and never really knew what having a family and being loved meant. Alexa has never had a meaningful relationship but feels this chemistry with Nick. A relationship blossoms but then is put to a test when Nick’s secrets surfaces. Alexa feels betrayed and lied to, Nick refuses to give up.

The characters are well developed, and you are taken on an emotional roller-coaster ride full of bumps and dark tunnels. It’s one of those rides you want to stay on but you want to hold on with both hands and hold on tight.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This book was surprisingly engaging and I felt connected to the story in a way that I didn’t initially think I would. Nick is the main male character and he’s just been released from 5 years in prison for a bar fight that had an unfortunate outcome. He is planning on staying with his friend Curtis and his girlfriend Kim, but only his friend knows where he’s been the past 5 years. Alexa is the main female character and she’s BFFs with Kim and Nick meets her when he arrives at Curtis’ place. Insert instant chemistry and a budding romance. As Nick and Alexa get closer and fall in love, Nick is torn with sharing his past, which leads to Alexa learning on her own and to say she feels betrayed is nothing. This is where I was a bit put off by the story, but after I finished it, I was okay with how it was written. Buy this book to see the lengths Nick goes to to win back Alexa’s love and trust; will he succeed? Even though this book explores a quick love story, it’s a good one and I didn’t want to put it down until the end.

I really liked this book, though it didn't end up totally being what I expected. Nick and Alexa have a pretty intense connection as soon as they meet, but of course, drama happens that interferes. The story is well written in that it flows smoothly and it, as well as the characters are well developed, though I feel like Alexa could have been more so. This didn't end up being as dark as the blurb led me to believe, which still worked out because it's still a great story. I'm not gonna lie, there were a couple of times I wanted to smack Nick upside his head, and thought, "What the hell are you thinking ?!", but it turns out I liked his character despite some cringe worthy behavior.

I actually ended up being surprised at the range of emotions this book elicited. There may or may not have been a need for tissues a couple of times. ;) The sex scenes weren't as intense as I was anticipating, but they definitely still delivered the steam factor.

Overall, this ended up not being quite as dark and intense as I was anticipating, but it was still a really good read.
I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Nick is released from prison after spending the last five years there for attempted murder. His best friend Curtis owns a construction company and has offered him a job and a place to stay while he gets back on his feet. The only catch is Curtis doesn't want his live-in girlfriend to know that Nick just got out of prison, so he needs Nick to go along with the story he made up as to where Nick came from. On his first night back Curtis's girlfriend, Kim has her best friend, Alexa over and all it takes is one look and Nick is hooked. He knows he will do anything to make Alexa his but he has to stay with the story Curtis came up with. Nick thinks it is for the best anyway because Alexa probably wouldn't give him the time if day if she knew he spent the last five years in prison. Lies, secrets and half truths never stay buried forever. Grab this book today to see what lengths Nick will go to in order to keep the woman he loves. Will it be enough or has Nick ruined his chances by hiding the truth from the very beginning? Loved this book and definitely recommend it as a must read.

Redemption / Heartache / Understanding

The book will leave you with a hangover. When Nick and Alexa meet they are instantly attracted to each other, but Nick has a past he wants to forget and Alexa has trust issues. His worst nightmare comes true when she finds out about his past. Nick, being brought up with foster families that could care less makes bad choices and ends up in prison for a bar fight that went too far. From the moment he is released from prison, your heart goes out to him seeing other released inmates reuniting with family while he has nobody and walks for miles in the snow just to get to town where he meets up with his only friend Curtis who is more like a brother and willing to take him end so he can get a fresh start. Nick will pull all your heart strings, there is just something about a man showing he is vulnerable, even if he ends up having stalker issues you see how badly he will do anything for the love of his life.
That's all I will give of the story, do not want to spoil it. This book is a must read!!

I was given this audible book for a fair and honest review, thank you Rodney Falcon. I’m sure this wasn’t necessarily your fault but in parts I was a little confused on who was speaking. Otherwise I enjoyed your narration.
The story in a nutshell, Nick is released from prison, is invited to stay with his friend Curtis and girlfriend Kim, Kim has no idea Nick was in prison. Curtis and Nick want to keep it that way. Nick falls for Alexa, Kim’s best friend. All is well till Nick moves into his own place and Alexa finds some damaging information, accuses Nick of lying and withholding info. Nick being persuasive, eventually convinces Kim to give him another chance. In the end we have a HEA of sorts?
This story to me was not dark, however in some cases I felt Nick was on the verge of being a stalker, no means no regardless of the circumstances and he continually disregarded Alexa’s request to stay away. Alexa on the other hand was being illogical in not hearing Nick out, she in hear anger thought she knew all, but knew nothing.

Great romantic drama. Nicks a good man who made some bad choices. He spent 5 years in prison, for a bar fight that got out of hand. He is out now, has a job and a place to stay, courtesy of his best friend. He is determined to rebuild his life. Then he meets Alexa, besty to his best friends girlfriend. They both have and instant attraction. It's not long before they are dating, and falling in love.
Nick and Alexa both have issues. When Alexa learns of Nicks recent imprisonment, she is devistated. She breaks up with him. Nick Loves Alexa and is determined to win Alexa back. Alexa loves Nick, but is afraid that she really doesn't know anything but lies about him. How can you have a relationship, when there are so many lies between them.
Great story. Loved Nick, he never gave up on getting Alexa back. A sweet epilogue.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book from Booksprout. Book Added To my Wish List.

Have you ever had something bad happen and then you let a friend convince you not to tell anyone? If you're like Nick you just kind of knew in the back of your mind keeping this secret from Curtis' girlfriend would probably come back to bite him. But he and Curtis grew up in the foster care system and even though they had been bounced around, they stayed in touch throughout their lives. They considered each other brothers and if Curtis thought keeping the secret was the right thing to do, then by all means, Nick would keep quite. Until it's too late and his secret is found out by the last person in the world he wanted to know. The results are almost more devastating than the secret.
The title had my mind going in one direction and Derek Masters took me in another. It was an emotional journey for sure, but a heart felt one that I enjoyed following along with his characters. I was pleasantly surprised and whole heartedly recommend this one.
