An explosive and unexpected romance that proves opposites really do attract and burn twice as hot...
Emma f#cking Winchester. She’s the little sister of my best friend. Well, ex best friend now... She’s off limits like tempting forbidden fruit, and I’m the snake slithering through the grass. She ignites a fire in me. One I can’t explain. One I sure as f#ck can’t control. It’s raw and primal. She’s sweet, and I am not. She’s pure, and I’m broken. When I came back to the town and past I’d left behind ten years ago to make it big in the world of underground fighting – it was for one reason, and one reason only. To take care of my Grandma Rose, and I’ll do it by any means necessary. Even if it means doing the one thing I said I’d never do. I never expected to see Emma again. I never thought I'd want her the way I do. I didn’t expect to peel back all her perfectly controlled layers or for her to see through mine. Fate brings us together. Burning passion binds us. When the fire gets too hot, can love save us?
Alyne Hart is a contemporary romance author living in the mountains of Eastern Washington. She's known for writing stories that pack an emotional punch and get you right in the feels.
She loves writing very real and deeply flawed characters and writing about honest, gritty, and raw romance. She's a romance junkie and happy endings addict, and if you’re a lover of deeply emotional reads with lots of delicious angst, her books are for you. Alyne's stories involve characters with bigger problems than just finding love. She writes stories about making peace with the past, rekindling old flames, and healing old wounds. She loves small towns, men in uniform, and alpha males with a heart of gold.
She began her story-telling journey first with her dolls, then it progressed to paper. She has a deep love for anything romantic, and she's a believer that in love anything is possible.
When Alyne isn’t writing, you can find her reading, hanging out with her cat, and spending time with her two children. She enjoys trips to the lake just as much as trips to the wine cellar, live music, chick flick movie marathons, and hanging out with her eclectic group of friends.
Holy macaroni! Holy crappolie. I don't even have words. This book was off the charts! Seriously, for someone who HATES second chance romance books, freaking Alyne does it again. I must say before I even start my review, Alyne, has a way with words. She captivates you in each sentence, and you can't look away. THAT to me is a good author. Even if its something I am not found of "second chance romance" I can't get enough of it here. The Space Between Us, does not disappoint. Here we have a sports romance, with an insane amount of chemistry between the two characters. We also get to see a childhood crush come to fruition. What else, can you want? Oh yeah, did I mention super hotness? Oops I guess i forgot that.
What is it about fighters? Especially the ones who do it underground. Is it the attitude? The swagger? Maybe all of the above.
It's no wonder Emma couldn't resist Dean King. I couldn't, either. He sucked me in from his first appearance and sunk his claws into me with every page. He was the ultimate bad boy, but underneath that tough exterior was a guy who cared, even if he didn't realize it.
There's nothing better than a heroine who knows what she wants out of life. Emma has had to put her dreams on hold for her family. Dean's reappearance back in her life muddied the waters. He's the forbidden. But he's also just what she needs.
I loved taking this journey with them. There were so many ups and downs, and it was fun to see the two of them grow as individuals and as a couple. And exciting news! The other friends we made in the story are getting their own books.
I loved everything about this book! A second-chance romance, sports romance with a broody boxer and the girl finally getting her childhood crush. I was captivated from the first page and instantly transported into Dean and Emma's journey. Dean and Emma couldn't be much different yet they fit perfectly together and their chemistry! Woo-Wee! I could feel it sizzle off the pages and more than once had to fan myself.
The Space Between Us was a big win for me and I can't wait to read more by this wonderful author!
A story of unrequited love with a childhood crush. Emma and Dean come from two very different backgrounds but this doesn't stop the chemistry and love that flows between them. The two characters really balance each other out - he challenges her to step outside of her comfort zone and she adds a kinder, caring heart to him. I liked how the story built up to the sex and that it wasn't just about sex but more about the deeper meaning of making love. The sex scenes were well written and steamy with a definite phwoar factor! It was nice to see Dean the hard ass fighter have a real soft spot in the form of Mama Rose. The letter at the end from Mama Rose was precious and had me shedding a few tears. I liked that we also got an insight into other characters which has left me wanting to know the stories of all of them.
There is nothing more satisfying than a second chance romance, unless, it is a second chance romance between a rough around the edges, bad boy boxer and a dainty and loving, aspiring ballerina. Dean struggles to keep the demons of his past under control with his fists and by keeping everyone at a distance with his less than charming personality. Returning to the town he left behind ten years ago to take care of one of the few people he cares about, his grandmother Mama Rose, he wants nothing more than to train at his mentor Tony's Gym and fight, hard and bloody . Then he sees Emma Winchester again, and instead of the scrawny 14 year old with braces and frizzy hair that he grew up with, she is all grown up, beautiful, dainty and sweet. The sister of his ex-best friend, innocent and in love with him since she was a child, Emma is everything that Dean shouldn't want, but he does want her, bad. Forbidden fruit has never been so tempting and Dean gives in to the allure of her love even knowing he is utterly selfish to do so. But of course, the road to true love never runs smoothly and they will have a fight on their hands, both in the ring and out of it.
Alyne Hart's The Space Between us, is a well written, contemporary second chance romance that explores the emotional turmoil that results when two very different people, with different lives, expectations and ambitions are drawn irrevocably to each other, in spite of those differences. For all intents and purposes they have very little in common. Dean is fire and Emma is rain.
He is an emotionally damaged, live-in-the-moment, tattooed boxer from the wrong side of town, with a bad attitude, lots of anger, and some seriously well developed distancing skills, while Emma is the much loved second child of orchard owners, who is driven to succeed as a dancer, a perfectionist, a life planner, and an innocent in every sense of the word. I found this story to be an honest and gritty portrayal of a couple who want so much to be everything to each other but who struggle to overcome all the things that are infesting the space between them.
"Maybe I did grown up a little ... privileged or whatever it is that you think puts a space between us. But why does it even matter? Because you know that when we're together, nothing else matters. I've seen your soul, Dean. .....It just made me love you more".
The supporting characters of Dean and Emma's best friends Vin and Siobhan, Dean's brother, restaurateur Flinn, and Emma's brother (and Dean's ex-best friend) Forrest are engaging and well developed and I am looking forward to finding out more about them and reading their stories.
When underground fighter Dean King sees the hot waitress at the diner back in his podunk hometown, he's attracted. When he realizes she's the little sister of his former best friend Forrest, it doesn't stop him from wanting her. It should, but Dean's not one for doing the right thing.
Emma Winchester (can I just say that I FLOVE the Supernatural theme the author has going on with all the characters' names!!) has been in love with her older brother's one time best friend since she was a little girl. Now that he's back in their hometown to see his beloved grandma, Mama Rose, the two of them just might have a chance to fulfill Emma's unrequited crush. That is if his shady fighting arrangement doesn't get in the way of the future Emma starting to see for them.
Brother's best friend (or in this case, former best friend) can be a tricky trope to navigate. Alyne Hart handles it like a champ, though. It never verges on the side of too angsty and forbidden because my brother will kill you simply because you're his friend (ex friend), rather it concentrates on Emma and Dean's individual personalities and how they mesh or don't as a couple, whether they're out in the open in front of the brother or not.
There's lots of steamy forbidden goodness, yes, but it's not the main thing here. The emotional level these two connect on is what makes this story so good. It's both emotionally layered and emotionally satisfying at the same time. I fell in love with Dean, (who doesn't love a tatted up fighter, especially one named Dean?!) but Emma is truly the star here in The Space Between Us. She's sweet, yet strong and tough, and she simply loves those most important to her - her brother Forrest, her best friend Von and of course, most importantly, Dean. I wish all romance authors would take heed of the author's choice of heroines, because there need to be more like her and fewer of the whiny, woe is me type that line the romance genre these days.

In my opinion, a good author creates a good story, but a great author creates a breathing human menagerie that allows the reader to be part of the story. So when I first started reading this book, I didn't like the main character and it wasn't like the other books I've read by this author. Then I thought about it and I realized what had happened. This book wasn't like the author's other books because she took the bold step to create something new and thus not becoming trapped in a mold. And the reason I didn't like the main character is that I felt a high level of empathy for him and my "momness" went into overdrive. Let me explain, I loved him so much I wanted him to make better choices. I wanted to crawl into the book smack him upside the head and scream "You are a good guy. Trust me." The author created this love story where separate the two characters were flawed and didn't do well, but together they did exactly what love is supposed to do- made each other better. Their arcs were so moving for me, I kinda cried at the end. I can't wait to read the next one.
HOLY CRAP THAT WAS GOOD!!! I was lucky enough to win an advanced copy of Something Like This and I decided that I wanted to read the first two books. I'M SO GLAD I DID! I love how well this book was written and the plot was fantastic!!!
The amount of history that Emma and Dean have together is HUGE, the fact that she always had a crush on him was also HUGE! I LOVED THIS!!! Dean being the brothers best friend is always one thing, but the fact that he's the one who is obsessed with her as an adult was so damn adorable! Well, adorable is a little bit of an innocent word, there was nothing adorable about his feelings for her. He was so fantastically filthy about it, and the fact that she was innocent... MIND BLOWINGLY GOOD!
There was the perfect amount of emotions, twist and turns in this book. I love a deeply emotional book, and I really loved how many this one had. I truly felt every emotion throughout this book and that for me made this book that much better. Alyne did an amazing job of the supporting characters too. I loved Tony and Rose the most, these two really were just THE BEST! I cannot wait to see what is to come!
This is an absolutely fantastic read and I give lots of praise to Alyne Hart for such a great read. This is the story of Dean and Emma, Emma is a ballerina and has had the biggest crush on Dean since she was a teenager, Dean is a boxer who left town 10 years earlier but now he’s back because of his sweet grandma. When he see’s Emma she’s not that little girl anymore and the attraction is electric between them but she is forbidden fruit, she’s the little sister of his ex best friend. I loved this story the sexual heat between Emma and Dean was scorching hot, this is a second chance, best friends little sister and a sports ( boxing ) romance novel so what more could you want?! It was one amazing story and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.
Wow, Amazing!! A Fantastic and Exceptional Book! This book is well written, quite the page turner that hooked and captivated me from the beginning - I had to read it in one sitting. The characters are deep, troubled and well developed. I admire the strength in Emma and the patience she had as she loved and stood by Dean as he dealt with issues resulting from the abuse he suffered as a young child. The chemistry between them is explosive! There are so many heartfelt emotions in this story that really gripped my heart. There is drama, intrigue and excitement that will keep you reading. This book is a must read and I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Kudos to Alyne Hart for a wonderful start of an amazing series. I love this book from the very beginning! Dean and Emma are amazing together even though they are total opposites that shouldn't fit together. They had explosive chemistry and couldn't fight it. A very touching story!
The author makes her characters real and gritty, and moves her stories along at a very good pace. I like that the characters got to know each other again slowly over several weeks.
Dean is a very flawed and broken character. Dean had a hard life from a very young age which kept him closed off emotionally. He was scarred and unloved growing up and he felt that he was unworthy of being loved as what his mother told him.
I love the heroine so much. She might be naive but she has a heart of gold. Emma is so wonderful, loving, pure, and innocent. Dean was so sweet and patient with her. The supporting characters very nice as well, can't wait to read more about them.
This is a wonderful second chance story. Five Stars! Highly recommended!

Have it in audio This is a great listen. First I heard from this author and Narrator Logan McAllister. This is a story about second chance romance. Hero is Dean. Heroine is Emma. Emma has had a crush on Dean from her younger years but she thought since Dean was her brothers friend it would be a moot point. Dean has to take care of his grandmother and he also has to support both of them. He turns to underground fighting (MMA) Emma’s brother is Deans ex friend now and he doesn’t know how to handle the attraction between both of them. Should Emma be off limits
An extremely real story that resonated deeply with me. It's amazing the impact experiences we have in life have on who we are and that self loathing and doubt can stop us from experiencing happiness and joy. I have lived parts of this story and because of the inabilty to love ones self and to heal, my story did not end in a HEA.
If we are told one thing enough from a young age, how can it not shape us, how can we not believe it. And the hard part is that truly the only person who can save us is ourselves.
Told from a dual POV we follow Emma and Dean as they discover what love means to them. Emma's compassion, understanding, patience and love for Dean was overwhelming and I fought right beside her as she supported him. Dean's strength drew me to him, even as he made poor choices, I could understand his reasoning and the hows and whys of it all. I was glad this couple found each other.
Holy moly was this one hot and totally engrossing I loved it! Hot now successful underground fighter Dean comes back to his home town for his grandma and finds out that his best friends sister is still around and while he tries to ignore her he can't. I love the passion and tension in this story, it hooked me right away and kept me glued until the end. SO MUCH PASSION!!!!!

This is a great and captivating second chance romance that takes you away to live in a different world for a little while. The characters are awesome and very well developed. The dainty image of Emma contrasts beautifully with the rugged bad boy Dean. This book was fantastic and I loved the story and the pace it was set at.

Another book that Alyne does not fail to deliver! She has such a way of getting you invested in the characters and leave you wanting more. This classic good girl/bad boy combo sucks you in. Emma and Dean live in two different worlds. He's her childhood crush. Her dream come true! He's the bad boy who has s soft side for his Grandma. While taking care of her, he learns the love of a good woman. Great book! Can't wait for more in the series!
This is the first book I have read by Alyne and it won't be the last this was a fantastic best friends sister/second chance romance. This booked pulled me in and did not let me go until the very last chapter it was well written and I just loved Emma and Dean complete opposite's but had so much chemistry you could almost feel it.A super read cannot wait for the next in the series.
This was the first book of Alynes that I read. To Say I was hooked on her writing style is an understatement. Right after I binge read the book I went in search of her other books. The descriptions paint such vivid pictures. This was a great read, I was not dissapointed. It's been a while since I've found such a book that I just couldn't put down!
My second book from Alyne. I absolutely love her and the way she writes her stories and characters they jump off the pages.
Alyne should be writing for Hollywood. No words could explain how awe inspiring her words are. It'll send chills through you. You are going to want to shout from the rooftops about it.
Missing this book would be a crying shame. Alyne has a fan 4 life. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
I loved everything about this book from the characters to the storyline. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to read such an amazing book as this one I just could not put it down once I started reading it.

Dean and Emma were total opposites that shouldn't fit together. They had explosive chemistry and couldn't fight it. A wonderful second chance story. I would recommend to anyone that likes romance.

I love a good forbidden romance type book with a dark moody bad boy and this book didn't disappoint. Fighter books aren't on my top favorite to read but it worked well for Dean King. Emma was a strong main character, she was lost in life but it didn't take from her strength and persistence.
I couldn't put this book down once I started to read it. The chemistry between Dean & Emma was hot and intense. I loved the way the story was told and their friends & family are big parts in their lives.
There were some heart wrenching moments - I won't spoil the book but you must read it as it's amazing. I can't wait for the next books x
I love Emma & Dean's story. Emma always had a crush on her brother's best friend. But something happen between Dean & Forrest. Now Dean is back & he wants Emma. She tries to resist him knowing that her brother would hate her to be with Dean. Dean gets involved in something he shouldn't. They so many obstacles in their path but love finds a way to win.

This my first book by this author and im definitely going to finish the series. The main characters were nicely written and the secondary ones made me want to know them too. And who doesn't like a HEA!
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. I Really enjoyed this story. It has a good, engaging storyline that grabbed me from the first chapter and I couldn’t put it down. The characters are well written with great chemistry and interaction. I really liked reading about them and their story. This is an enjoyable, entertaining, must read romance that I really enjoyed reading.
Review to followI received this audiobook free of charge in return for an honest review.
A boxer romance with a brother’s best friend/childhood crush genre…two of my favourite types! Alyne Hart definitely doesn’t disappoint with characters like Dean and Emma.
Emma has always had a crush on Dean ever since they were young. He was her brother’s best friend and the school bad boy. After an argument with her brother, Dean left town, now he’s back and is finally starting to notice Emma.
THE GOOD STUFF This story is very well set. After the first chapter or so you know exactly what’s going on without it having to go into too much detail. I like the settings of the farm, boxing gym and diner, giving familiar surroundings for the reader.
The characters are really easy to like, Emma is a strong-willed character who has given up her dreams to pull her weight in her family and Dean is a bad boy with a great personality. I wanted the two of them to get together from the start and loved the little moments that they shared.
The storyline was gripping throughout and very interesting. I’ve listened to a few stories where Logan McAlister is the narrator and I do like his style.
NOT MY CUP OF TEA I feel that a bit more could of actually happened in this book. Although it was very interesting there could have been that extra push near the end that made it more exciting. It didn’t completely need it however as I still really enjoyed it.
OVERALL RATING I really enjoyed this story. It left a little opening for Emma’s brother’s story maybe…? I’d definitely read it if that was the case!
