The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙 Romance: 💚🖤💙💜 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌎 Character development: 😌😎🙃
The heroine:Claire ‘Zara’ Flynn - she gave up college to take care of her mother when she had cancer. Now Zara works as a waitress at a local diner. Three years ago her parents were murdered in their home by Bikers. She suffers from narcolepsy with cataplexy, meaning when her anxiety was up, she would fall to the floor and become paralyzed until her heart rate went down and she would fall into deep sleeps at various times.
The Hero(es):Jacob ‘Mac’ Miller - former marine, working undercover for the FBI within the Charon MC. Though he and his two friends are enjoying the MC lifestyle and have been ditching their FBI handler in favor of staying in the MC, especially now that they are full fledged members. Mac works out of the Gym and is implementing self defense courses.
The Story: When a shooting occurs in her diner, Zara suffers from an attack and is paralyzed on the floor an thought to be dead, while the perpetrators check out the scene. She hears exactly what they are saying and knows that they are part of the Iron Hammers MC. Afterwards she runs away from her home and is told by her neighbor about the Charon MC, saying that their territory was the safest place to go since the Iron Hammers won’t go there.
This was told in dual points of view via dual narration. The narrators are Tieran Wilder and David Brenin. I thought both of the narrators sounded too old for the characters. David Brenin has a gravelly voice that sounded like he may have been a smoker, though that doesn’t clash with the MC lifestyle. I almost gave up on this one a few times because the narrators just sounded older than I like.
I was interested in the story and the Character of Zara, so I kept listening even though I really didn’t like the narrators too much. I like a strong heroine that suffers from anxiety issues. I don’t think those are mutually exclusive. Though there were some problems with the story. Some of the scenes just seemed like a bunch of different things that the writer thinks should be included in this type of book which weren’t necessarily needed for the story. Especially things like swearing and filthy talk, which can add to the world building in some books, but just seemed a bit gratuitous to me in this one.
There was also some weird things going on in this book. This was the first book by Khloe Wren that I have read and it was a pretty standard MC romance through most of this book. Though midway through the book the Charon and another MC fought against the Iron Hammer MC. Some of the men from the other MC that were helping out Mac were paranormal, probably shifters, though it didn’t really go into it more than peripherally.
This was book 2 in the "Charon MC" series. I have been curious about Mac since the first book. For the past three years Claire ‘Zara’ Flynn has been at the mercy of narcolepsy and cataplexy attacks. But after she witnesses a shooting by the ruthless Iron Hammers MC, her problems get a whole lot worse. She's now a marked woman, on the run for her life. Mac works in the clubs gym and teaches self-defense to women his sister was violently killed. Zara is a waitress in a diner and he likes her but she is scared of bikers so he convinces her to take some self-defense classes. This was a good book that I listened to on audio these two had good chemistry. When the bikers come for her Mac and his club go to war in order to get her back. I loved the narration of this book and I am looking forward to listening to the next one.
This book was filled with all sorts of crazy, but through it all Zara managed to find a place to belong and people that cared about her, something she needed. I loved that every time something bad happened to Zara, Mac was there for her, heck the whole club was there for her. This one ended in the best way possible for Zara, found out her dad was a hero, the club helped clean up a big problem and she's living her HEA with Mac.
Zara was a witness to a crime done by another MC back where she lived. She ran to another town where she was told the local MC would protect her but she was scared of any MC man.
Mac is one of the three men who are retired Marines who recently patched into the club. He has no interest in settling down. He too has his secrets. He takes an interest in Zara and when he finds out who she is he puts her under his protection.
This is a great book. It has plenty of sexy time's but it's more story than sex in case you're thinking it's pure smut, it's not. There's a lot of violence.
Best to read these books in order even though it could be read as a stand alone.
Ok...I need to get this out of the way first. My grandmother had narcolepsy and suffered from cataplexy attacks. Her Cataplexy was not as severe as was described here, but then we all were hyper aware of my grandmother that we never let anything too shocking or upsetting exist in her world. Her attacks occurred most often during laughter...my fam jam is VERY funny and we love humour. I would remember walking up beside her or another family member walking up to her to hold her at the waist when my funny uncle or brother were setting up to tell a funny joke. She would laugh and her whole body would sag and it we weren't there she would have fallen. Her narcolepsy was more of a coma like state than being tired. She actually never felt tired, but would literally slump over mid dinner or such and be asleep for 10 minutes. We all learned to never play cribbage with her 30 minutes before or after her pills time (initially amphetamines and then later Ritalin and generic-Ritalin substitute). That said, I believe many of us suffer/benefit from sleep related illness. Both my brother and I can stay up for hours/days at a time and then other times (like when my kids were sick or travelling) I can sleep on demand and then stay up for a day or two. It is a very challenging syndrome but with family/friends around that normalize it, it can be good for the person suffering. The only "bad" cataplexy attack I ever witnessed was at my grandfather's funeral...she was so overcome with grief...she "slept" thru basically all the funeral. Some catty/stupid people commented and I (the mouth when pushed) told them flat out the her narcolepsy is triggered by huge emotions and losing her husband of over 45 years might be a bit traumatic.
Personal story out...One criticism was the incident at the dumpster...Really??? Why would Marie send them out there knowing that shit was going down. Just saying. Other than that...I loved "bunny" and Mac together. They really seemed to get each other and without all the chatter, just slipped into themselves and got comfy!
Exciting story that kept me on the edge of my chair. Zara and Mac definitely were an unlikely couple but their strong personalities balanced them nicely. Can't wait for book 3!
Mac has a past he doesn't want to get into with anyone, even his brothers have no idea what he's been through. But he is determined to set up the gym and offer self-defense classes for woman so that his past doesn't happen to someone else. Zara has been through trauma that has left mental scars she has to live with everyday. After a shooting at the coffee shop she works at and saying the wrong thing to the wrong person has Zara running for her life.
This book was amazing. Its a darker read than the first book (Inking Eagle) and at times it had my heart racing and a lump in my throat in fear. But I could not put it down. I persisted through the tough parts to come through and find two amazing characters that have been through hell and survived to tell the tale. This book may be a trigger for some people so I would definitely be wary if this is something you need to consider however again I absolutely loved it. I loved the surprise visitors that turned up in the book and kept your head spinning with possibilities for the future.
Khloe Wren has done it again and I can't wait for Taz's book and wherever else this series may take her and us.
First let me say this was definitely not as good as book one IMO, hence 2.5-2.75 star rating. I loved book one the characters, the finding true love with growly alpha men in and out of the bedroom, tons of great secondary characters, and the story, a real story that doesn't end when the main characters fall for each other. I also love the fact that these stories showcase military men still in and out of the service to our Country! These men finding a place that makes them feel like they fit in after all the horrors they've seen and done for our freedom. Mac, Eagle and Taz are military brothers in and out of the Marines. They have each others back and are a HUGE support system to each other. What I didn't like in book one and carried over into this book is the reasons they joined the MC in the first place and the dishonesty they continue with even after they are patched in (Can't say exactly or it would be a spoiler). I also didn't like the medical illness Zara had Cataplexy and Narcolepsy, now I get people having disabilities most of us do, but how in the love of all that's holy does it seem rational that someone with these illnesses have a license to drive! They wouldn't! Bc the minute she's overwhelmed she "freezes" ! You can not have a license for 6 months if you have a seizure but hay fall asleep or catatonic daily and it's all...Here's your license hope you don't kill yourself or an innocent!! Bu!!$hit€!! Also the illness is came in because of a tragedy does that mean a trauma or tragedy can fix it, will she always have it, can the illness be genetic?! Unanswered questions! I feel like because of this and not fully understanding the illness it took my focus off the story and characters and on to googling information. According to Google it never goes away but can be managed with medicine but can still have triggers. Future readers...This is a good series that has hawt MC men, strong females, good storyline and great characters. It also has murder, abuse and talk of physical assault, drugging of women and rape. So possible triggers, be prepared! Free with k.u. Taz's story next I have to read his story but after, well we'll see how this story plays out. Because if the Charons find out why they originally joined them and continued duplicitous could end badly very, very badly for my 3 men! 😥
Sweet quick read, with a biker who has a strong desire to protect, and and a heart of gold, who helps out our disabled heroine, and actually takes the time to learn about her conditions and how to best help when they strike. Plus it starts right off the bat super action paced, before mellowing out and than picking up pace halfway through, and just galloping the rest of it’s way through everything. So good book with great pacing. lol
***TRIGGER WARNINGS***
gun violence, death, mention of assault/rape, sexual assault, violence against young girls And I think that’s it. If I’ve missed something, please let me know.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First off, I absolutely loved how Khloe Wren incorporated Zara (Claire) having narcolepsy with cataplexy and did so accurately! As someone who deals with that, I can assure you she is dead on!
This has all the instalove, MC, damsel in distress, kidnapping themes, however aside from the inclusion of Zara’s illness, this book was STEAMING HOT!!!
I will warn you, the part where Zara is in the other MC’s clubhouse is VERY disturbing and can definitely be a trigger.
I’ll likely read the other book that includes Zara and Mac.
Fighting Mac is second book in the Charon MC series. Zara is working her job as a waitress when she witnesses a murder and offers names and identifying features to the cops. Now she’s on the run from the Iron Hammers MC and heads to the Charon MC’s territory. She gets a job waitressing again, and that’s when she meets Mac. Zara doesn’t know who to trust anymore, but as she starts to fall for Mac, she quickly realizes that she can trust him. When the Iron Hammers find out where Zara’s hiding, Mac needs to use all of his resources to keep Zara safe. There’s more to Zara’s story than either know, and when she’s taken, can Mac rescue Zara before she’s harmed, or worse?
So as I read this book, I’ve decided that this series is kind of like onions, with so many layers, so many little secrets that you get to uncover as you flip through the pages. I absolutely loved Mac and Zara! She was so shy of all bikers, had this really interesting medical issue, but once Mac gained her trust, she was able to open up and just be herself. Mac was so alpha, so protective, so hard on himself, and so perfect for Zara. I loved that he took such good care of Zara’s physical and emotional needs, and in return, her love and trust really opened him up and allowed him to heal from his past hurts. The plot line had a lot of steam, danger, and close calls, and I loved that characters from the previous book and from Elle Boon’s Iron Wolves MC series showed up as well! I loved how this book ended and I loved everything that Mac and Zara need to get through to find their happy ending. I am really loving this series, completely enthralled by the characters, sucked into their drama, secrets, and lives, and can only wish for a Chiron MC member like Mac could claim me!
I mean I thought the first one was out of this world, then I met Mac. Oh my Mac, you broke my heart so many times because of all you had seen and dealt with. There there was Claire, who also just needs all the hugs in the world. I was so glad these two were the match made in this book. There is a lot of emotional heavy issues in this book, I mean the first one has them too, but this book it makes your heart super heavy in a way that makes you hold the book a little tighter hoping the characters can feel the love. Then there are the sexy times, oh for the love of all that is holy... cold shower needed. I mean I like an alpha Dominant natured man anyway, throw in some ink, some motorcycles and military yeah I'm a goner. What can I say military guys can be super thorough and Mac is definitely that. I also love seeing more of the bond of the Charon MC. There are groups out like this that protect those and the town around them and instead of being a bunch of something Amazon /GoodReads reviews won't let me say like Iron Hammers are. I loved watching Claire become stronger and more of a fighter. Life had dealt her a bad hand in a lot of ways especially in ones that she had zero control of, but she didn't do pity parties she was a fighter always. I loved the relationship build not only with Claire and Mac but her as well with some of the other "old ladies." This book is amazing and people got really rude sentences when they tried interrupting me during this book. There are a lot of MC books out there, but trust me with this series, it will be one of your favorites, if not the favorite.
loving the semi hard edge to these MC bikers. the heroine had it tough being afflicted with her disorders but even though they are serious, scary issues Ms Wren kept it on the slightly lighter side so as not to tear up too much of your gut. story was great, lots of little twists and turns,. I'm wishing audible had more of her writing in the catalogue... Tieran does great tone inflection with her voice, except the Aussie one, still a bit winceworthy. David is a bit better at the accent and I'm hoping I can get through book 3 as that's all about Aussie taz so there's a lot of dialogue to be spoken in accent!! don't quite know how they're going to get out from under their handler though. book 3 will tell I guess
Fighting Mac is Book 2 of the Charon MC and can be read as a stand alone, however I highly recommend reading Inking Eagle first and you will have a deeper understanding of the MC, it's members and honestly because it's a great read.
This is Mac and Zara's story and it's extremely fast paced, sexy and emotional! Both are strong individuals, but when their love blooms nothing can stop them. Be prepared for some tears and anger at some moments of darkness that may be rough for some people to read.
**For Elle Boon fans, there's a crossover appearance from the Iron Wolves MC
Oh my goodness, this book was so good. This book took me from super steamy love scenes to moments that had my heart beating so fast because I was freaked out by what was happening. I got mad at her a couple of times because why does this poor girl have to go through all of this and it made me stay up way past my bedtime because I had to see what was going to happen next. All I can say is amazing writing, awesome story-line and characters and I learned a little bit to top it off, so bonus.
Mac and Zara's story is not for the faint of heart, but what an amazing read.
I’m still struggling with their FBI connection, but I realize it’s part of the story. I just worry!! I love Zara. Her medical issues are intrinsic to the story and are portrayed very well. The disclaimer at the beginning is very well done. Mac is Uber bossy and possessive but I don’t think we would have him any other way! I’m so happy he had finally opened up to someone. The stuff she went through. I thought I was going to have to put this book down a couple times. Damn that was tough. So close. But it was well done and I read through. Now we just need that third musketeer to fall…
Omg!! That was crazy!! But I sooooo loved my crazy favorite goddess jennavie and xian and kellan from the iron wolves!! That made it 100 xs better 4 me!! after the murders of her parents she had a bad x of things with her new 2 illnesses the combines. Mac will do what it takes 2 keep her safe. Everything that went wrong the 1st x was screwed up cause of who died at the club. The 2nd x the asshole pulled I don't understand that part. Bash got hit with a bullet and was saved but whatever happened 2 that fucking skank whore? What happened with bash after taz cked him out? It was crazy!!
Inking Eagle was my first Khloe Wren read. Fighting Mac is the 2nd book in the series. I honestly cannot say which one of the Charon MC men is muy favorite. Each individual character that Ms Khloe introduces is simply the best in their own right. Mac is perfectly alpha and Zara compliments him with the right amount of damsel in distress with a kick when needed. Absolutely adore this book and the author. Can't wait to read Taz's story. Bravo Ms Khloe.
Fighting Mac is a good story but be warned it has triggers. Zara female lead she is one tough character and Wren puts her though some hard situations. Mac is typical alpha biker with sexy blue eyes.
I loved that Elle Boon's characters Kellan, Xan and Jenna were included in this story..love Iron Wolves Series. Great storyline to Fighting Mac...definitely should be read, so add to your TBR list and get a copy!! Happy Reading!!
Wow, murder, mayhem, kidnapping, sex trafficking, twists and turns , action packed, add in intrigue, romance, betrayal, rival motorcycle clubs, not as sin retired military, and a strong independent feisty woman running for her life and you have one fantastic read. Thoroughly enjoyable characters with an interesting storyline, this is one book you won't want to put down, well worth your time to read, once you start the series you'll be hooked.
Wow, this book was pretty damn amazing!! Mac is now on my list of top 5 Book Boyfriends, because seriously what is not to love about a big, sexy, alpha, ex-marine, with a heart of gold, and a burning need to save every damsel in distress he can. Even though Zara is a strong, independent, woman, finds herself in need of a Hero, and in her Gentlemen Biker she definitely found him.
This is one hot and heavy read. If you love sexy alpha overprotective males( love them myself) then this is for you I love that Khloe can show even people with health issues can live a normal life. And Zara has two health issues to contend with and she never lets it get her down. She is a woman to look up to. And Mac.... Man that guy could blow your socks off with just a look.
Love the series so far, great proofreading! Love reading a book that isnt full of errors. I only wish that sledge had gotten more than a single bullet, what happened to the two club whores and the prospect that helped him escape? Dont like parts of the story left hanging hence the 3 star
This his Mac's book. He is one of the three marines that joined the club. He is fiercely protective of women and we find out why in this book. Claire or (Zara) is a witness to something horrible and escapes to their town. Something about her draws Mac in and when he finds out who she is he will stop at nothing to protect her.
Amazing hot sexy! full of romance and sexy men on hot bikes! Macs past comes to light in this story and opens up curiosity to who is really is. Also the hardships followed with illnesses with narcolepsy and catoplesy! Zara is such a loving sweet innocent little women theres nothing not to love about her x
I wonder why they hadn't come clean to their MC when they realized the FBI guy was a loose cannon. I loved the connection between Mac and Zara. Once she gave in to him, there was nothing that could keep him away. I hated that she was always so slow to follow her instincts of danger.
I loved this book! Mac and Zara worked perfectly together! I loved how "growly and alpha male" he was. I also loved that Zara fully loved and accepted that about him. He was overbearing and overprotective, but if he hadn't been, she could have been killed on more than one occasion. This was a great read, and I'm looking forward to Taz's!
I absolutely loved this book. Mac and Zara's story is so chalked full of emotions, suspense and Hot sexy scenes. The Charon MC takes care of their brothers and their "old ladies". MC romances are my favorite and Khloe is becoming my favorite author. Can't wait to read more
