Atop an empire of his own design lives an alpha waiting to die.

CEO Marshall Alcrest has the financial world at his feet, but it’s been years since he’s made an omega kneel… and he’s come to terms that it’s too late to ever see it happen again. A grim prognosis will cut his days short if he doesn’t take action soon, and Marshall is ready to say goodbye to his hollow, lonely life… at least, until he crosses digital paths with an omega who makes him feel alive again.

Trapped in a world that doesn’t see his value exists an omega dying to live.

Oli McKellar is stuck. He’s educated and ready to work, but his chosen field is alpha-dominated, and no marketing department is looking to hire a pretty omega with a sarcastic mouth. The bills are stacking up, his temp jobs barely cover rent, and he’s begun to think that life will never get better. The only thing that keeps him going is his online relationship with a man he only knows as Alcrest—an older, dominant alpha with a silver tongue who makes him feel like not all hope is lost.

When a chance encounter turns Oli and Marshall’s virtual relationship real, their chemistry is off the charts, and things quickly heat up. But Marshall is keeping a secret… and when Oli finds out that a hot night together isn’t all he has to remember Marshall by, they’ll need to figure out if the weight of their obstacles will choke them into submission, or if theirs is the kind of love that will conquer all and leave them both breathless.

Breathe is a 63,000 word BDSM-flavored mpreg novel set following the events of Obey, Beg, Stay, and Heal. This conclusion to the series is best enjoyed as a sequel but can be read on its own. No matter which way you read it, there will still be copious amounts of maybe-babies, a spaghetti graveyard, sexts so filthy that someone legitimately passes out, and a shower scene that will leave you gasping.

Piper Scott debuted as a trio of authors looking to write together for fun. Their collaboration led to three novella-length books (Love Me, Save Me, and Keep Me,) before life sent them in different directions, leaving just one author with an omegaverse plot bunny that wouldn’t leave her alone. Obey was born several months later… but the plot bunny never left—it multiplied.

Left to her own devices, Piper Scott writes scorching but heartfelt contemporary omegaverse romance about men you can’t help but fall in love with.

Great ending to a great series. Five dominant Alpha men finding that one Omega who can take their inner Alphas.

Will she make a sequel with the children??? One can only wonder!

"Put me on the transplant list. I'm ready to breathe again." 😫Marshall! I'll always be a sucker for an I'll-live-for-you trope. Every. Time. Damn it. I almost gave up on this book.

I feel like we missed a lot of them falling in love. Book starts when they're clearly already more than halfway there for each other. But like I said before, I will always be a sucker for this specific trope. Too much dying for the one you love propaganda going around. Imagine your love giving someone a new lease on life? HERE. FOR. IT.

"You moron."
"I know."
"I hate you."
"I know."
😂😂😂😂😂😂These men are too dramatic.

But maybe not Oliver. He didn't do anything wrong. He was a little too forgiving. Imagine finding out the love of your life who just got you pregnant and also asked you to keep the baby + marry him, is ALSO terminally ill and hadn't said.

Mitigating circumstances for Marshall though. In his defense, he really didn't have a good time to tell him.

Also. The smut was almost overwhelming. I had to get more than 50% in to get to the good bits. For me, this book basically started after the pregnancy suspicion.

But it really picked up. Ish. Given the start. I love love love that this 'baby' was so highly anticipated and wanted wayyy before the confirmation. For what was very much an unplanned pregnancy, these were exceptionally good circumstances to be born into.

His top pick for a girl is Evelyn 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. I knew I liked you, Oliver. Top tier name. No notes. No, I will not be responding to any accusations of bias.

Granted this series is one of my favorite MPreg Alpha Omega verse.
I loved Oli and Marshall so much, they're meant to be together since the very beginning.
I felt sorry for what happened to Marshall, but eventually Oli is the one who saved him from a disaster he's been created intentionally.
I liked the 'light BDSM' elements in this story, in fact I prefer this kind of telling for my BDSM reads.
Both Marshall and Oli were reckless at the time, but I think anything happened for a reason. What happened to Oli was the one that made Marshall rethinking about his stupid decision in the past.
Oli is the reason Marshall wanted to live again for a more longer time.
This is an adorable cute story and I really enjoyed every minutes reading this.
If Mpreg Alpha Omega is your thing, you need this book to read ASAP!
Highly recommended!

I loved that Oliver & Marshall got to know each other long before they meet. It saddened me that Marshall was so sick and that he has given up on living. I loved that Marshall recognized Oliver when he never saw his face before the initial meeting. What I didn't like is that Marshall never told Oliver that he was sick, even when Marshall finds out that Oliver is pregnant. But Marshall has decided that he is going to live & do everything in his power to do so. This was a perfect ending to this series.

A joy to read!

Omg! This was such a joy to read! Oliver was a hoot and I love him so! I was wondering how it would turn out with the plot line so doomed from the start. But I’m happy to report it definitely worked. So good!

I think Oliver is my favourite character I’ve read in recent memory. The fact that he’s best friends with an alpha that can give as good as Oliver can dish is awesome!

I don’t remember if I’ve ever read any other books from Piper Scott but I’m definitely going to read more!

Breathtaking

Oli is an omega that keeps going forward in a world that keeps knocking him down. Marshall has given up after a devastating diagnosis. They talk online and feelings grow. Then with a little help by unknowing friends the two meet and suddenly everything is changing.

This is different from the others in the series but that simply makes it better. Read to find out but be aware: laughing will happen.

I am surprised by how much I loved this. I finished it in half a day. I really love books where couples meet and fall for one another online/via letters etc. and this fits the bill even if we barely get a glimpse of them getting to know one another. I love how they came together and fell for one another because they both felt like failures/were alone/ didn’t have much to their lives. I also loved how explosive was when they found one another. I also loved that it wasn’t fully revealed even after their first encounter who they were. I felt so sad for the Mc who was sick with a terminal illness. And how they navigated it. It honestly ended too quickly after that. I wanted to see more struggles and them conquer them together. Which they didn’t, it was almost too easy. And the bdsm is very light.

It seems like this is the last book in the series but this is the first one that I've read. Personally, this is a lovely reintroduction to an omegaverse-themed story that's neither fanfic-related nor manga-related since those are the types of media I often consume that's related to the said genre. I loved it! Oli was wonderful, he's witty, snarky, determined, and also very loving. I also have a soft spot for Marshall, I'm happy that he finally found the happiness that he's been looking for his whole life.

I can also say that I'm intrigued with the other characters, especially Adrian, so I'm gonna read his story next.

4.5 stars from me!

I think I've read these books all out of order. I started with the Single Dads Support Group -- great series, but those are the sons of these guys. So, I finally finish the His Command series and realize I really sould've read the Rutledge Brothers first. Oh well. This one was amazing, and now I want to reread the SDSG books...too many books, never enough reading time!

this was a positive surprise after the clusterfuck (albeit an engaging and entertaining one) that was the rest of this series. Oli cracked me up, and his dynamic with Marshall was nice. Definitely the best (and only? truly) well-rounded romance of the five.

Definitely my favorite of the series and the perfect ending to the whole thing! After the more serious themes in books 3&4, the mostly lighthearted tone of this book was the perfect way to wrap up the whole series. Plus I’m nothing if not a sucker for anonymous texting to love trope! 🙌

Breathe is the fifth book in His Command series by Piper Scott. I love this series and this addition to the series didn't disappoint me. I loved Oli and Marshall. They had great chemistry and some great scenes. I liked that they were internet friends before they ended up meeting each other. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I bought it cause I loved it that much.

Catch My Breath (an audio review)

This series contains catchy one-word titles and all work, but none is more appropriate than this one. Breath is essential to life and when it is obstructed – in many different ways – life becomes precarious. Perhaps even deadly. Don’t worry, no one dies in this book, but one of the main characters is dying, each breath a labor-intensive process. Marshall Alcrest is biding time until his life ends. He’s only forty-seven, but a deadly diagnosis sent him into a depression that lead him to cut off many of his old friends. He has a high-powered job that brings minimal satisfaction these days. He’s rich beyond belief and lonely as hell.

Oliver McKellar is an omega in a world dominated by alphas. He’s broke, a little desperate, and looking for a job that will take care of his basic needs. His only sources of true joy are his friend Cedric and his online hookup ‘Alcrest’. Oli has no idea who this man is, but their sexting brings relief to him in more ways than one. Things go well until Oli’s life falls apart. All seems lost until he meets up with Alcrest in real life. Oli is immediately attracted to the older man and their first meeting is…epic. Alcrest, upon hearing of Oli’s run of bad luck, has the impulse to step in and take over. Oli has some pride and wants to hold on to his dignity, so he turns down most of it.

Their texting relationship resumes with some interesting and, in one case, dire results.

Suddenly, though, Marshall has a reason to live. Beyond work, there is someone who needs him. Someone who doesn’t have a plan to succeed him. Now he’s faced with some life-altering decisions, foremost whether it’s worth fighting for.

This is not a depressing book. Ms. Scott brings her snarky banter as well as characters from previous books. I wasn’t lost, though, so no worries if you pick up this final book in the series. I’ve only read book 4 so it’s on my list to go back and read the others. She has a way of making the omega characters strong while also giving them the need to be loved. She gives her alphas nurturing qualities, something that is often missing. These books are light BDSM and I want to emphasize light. It works for those not interested and piques the curiosity of those who are.

Finally, I have to mention Michael Pauley. He’s done a great job with this series and keeps putting out consistent and quality performances. Love his work.

I’m sorry to see the series end but for those who enjoyed it, I recommend the Forbidden Desires series. That’s how I first discovered Ms. Scott’s work and she’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

4.5 stars of Simply Amazing

I am a brand new reader of this author; indeed, I’d actually never even heard of her before volunteering to read this book. I have clearly been missing out! Breathe is a stunning conclusion to a series, but having not read the other four books, I still don’t feel that I was left out of any inside information. I’m sure, however, that it would certainly be enhanced had I read the others first. Also, let me state right off the bat that this is a non-shifting omegaverse mpreg story, so if you don’t care for that, you’ve been warned.

This is the story of an omega, Oliver, for whom life is one struggle after the next, and an alpha, Marshall, for whom life is coming to an end three years after a ruinous medical diagnosis. While Oli grapples with life, trying to get his feet back under him, Marshall has the means to survive his diagnosis, but doesn’t have the will.

This story took me to places I’d not traveled before. I loved that there was this extraordinary situation right from the start, that it wasn’t an alpha saving his omega, but rather the pair saving each other. The uniqueness allowed a fresh breeze to waft through the whole. The pacing was on point throughout the entirety, and the character growth on both sides was huge, with eyes opening on both sides as opposed to just one pushing the other to learn.

You will note that this is marked BDSM. However, it is more BDSM-lite, with nothing heavy beyond verbal commands. If BDSM normally turns you off, you should still have no issue at all with the sexy times. Speaking of which, there are plenty of them, and they are blazing!

I enjoyed every page of this book, even when I was thoroughly frustrated with Marshall, and I am rating it at 4.5 stars. It is simply amazing, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are unfamiliar with this author, may I suggest that you reach out immediately and get your hands on this. You’ll discover a whole new world and an author you’ll be thankful to have tried!

I voluntarily read an ARC copy of this book for the author with hopes for but no obligation to provide a review.

This can be read as a standalone. There are spoilers though about the previous couples so read in order to avoid them.

I still enjoyed the world this author has created at the club and the modern contemporary settings and Omegas being treated with the same respect as Alphas. It was also nice to see cameos from the previous couples.

I loved both of the MCs and thought they had amazing chemisty. Given their prior online relationship I felt like the relationship development was natural and it didn't feel like instalove like some of the previous books.

I really loved this story and enjoyed it from start to finish in one listen. It is a story I will definitely listen to again in the future. It was fast paced and didn't drag at all which was great. I'm not a fan of secrets but it did make for interesting plot. This was a great story to end this series on. While it still had steam, I did find it had less steam than the others and definitely more angst with Marshals illness but it was the perfect amount for this plot.

The only thing I can say negative about this book is that I couldn't help but constantly question the validity of Alcrest not being able to go 2 mins at work without his oxygen tank but was able to go hours on dates without it no problem and even getting vigorously spicy without anyone finding out his secret illness. Other than that I do think the author portrayed the illness accurately.

MD did an amazing narration as always. His voice is a pleasure to listen to. Like always he kept a great pace, expressed all the emotions wonderfully, gave all the characters including the side characters their own distinct voice that suited each of them perfectly and he brought the story to life. Even if he did pronounce the title wrong lol.

I first read this series with Obey, and have bounced around in it since. I need to read some of the others, but when I was lucky enough to run across an excerpt of this one, I knew I had to read it, even if I hadn't read everything else yet. I think Piper Scott has outdone herself with this book. The other ones in the series are good, this one is the best. Piper handles pain, love, stress, and beauty all so very well and makes you believe in each emotion as it happens, when it's happening.

Marshall is slowly dying. His lungs are scarred and only getting worse. He doesn't have much time left now. His only joy is to talk to Oli on Kik. They share a lot of personal things and sext, and they find out that they are falling in love, right up until Oli mysteriously disappears.

Oliver is an Omega. He's tried for years to find a job that will use his degree, but it isn't working so far. The only joy he gets is talking to Alcrest online. That's great until he accidentally breaks his phone and can no longer get in touch him Alcrest.

A chance meeting has Oli and Alcrest meeting and discovering who they are. Can they survive all the secrets and lies that are about to pop up or is it going to destroy them?

I loved this story. Definitely the best in the series, IMO. It brings the series to a fine close and gives us a good glimpse of former characters and what their lives are like now, plus a very fine epilogue. I would actually love to see a second gen series about all the kids of these guys.

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like
‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd,
‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya,
‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or
'Liberty' from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey’s books)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times a year (most romances where you can
enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader,
maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok). It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

I fell in love with the His Command series, and each book was better then the next. Breathe is the last book in the series and it was a wonderful conclusion.

Oli is an omega determined to make it on his own. He’s earned his degree in marketing, and has since been on the search for a job in his profession. However, no one seems to be hiring omegas, and money is scarce. Life is tough and stressful, but Oli has his online alpha to help him relieve the pressure. Marshall is slowly dying – his lungs are failing him and life is bleak. His given up on life and his only pleasure is with his online omega. When a chance of fate brings these two men together their lives are changed for the better.

The relationship between Marshall and Oli was wonderful – there was so much snark and humor, but also tenderness and love. I really liked these characters and was instantly pulled into the story due to their great personality and amazing banter. Plus, there was some of the hottest knotting sex I’ve ever read. All the sex scenes were fantastic – original and hot with a kinky edge that just made the flames fan higher. This was a truly wonderful book and I highly recommend it and the whole series.

Wow! This book is a fitting end to this series. The guys from the previous stories show up here along with Marshall and Oli. This, for me, is not a standalone. You need to read the others. And they are so good, do yourself a favor and read them.

This story opens so smoking hot with sexting between Oli and Alcrest. But as you get into Oli’s life, you realize he doesn’t have any good luck to start this story. As you read his life, you feel for him. How much more can he take? Then he has a chance meeting with Marshall, or Alcrest as he knows him from online.

This story had so many ups and downs. The story takes you on a ride through all of the emotions. Your emotions are all over the place, you laugh, cry and your heart hurts, then warms as the love blooms. Then you fan yourself while reading a couple of the hottest scenes I’ve read in a while. And in the end, love wins.

As with all the stories in this series, well written, great storyline, nicely paced and the characters are full of depth. I am so sad that this series is at an end. But I am looking forward to something new from this author.

A wonderfully enchanting omegaverse romance with just the right dash of angst and passion. Marshall is an atypical dominant alpha, suffering from depression and facing his mortality, who finds a new reason to cling to life when he meets Oli online. I love this type of story, where the characters connect online and then have this big “reveal” moment when they discover who the other really is, a steamier take on The Shop Around The Corner or You’ve Got Mail. Oli and Marshall’s first meeting was all I could have wanted! I loved the emotional connection between them and how that always remained a constant, something to trust in.
The BDSM aspects are present, but lightly, and confined to the bedroom. What there was, was steamy and intimate, and very much driven by Oli and Marshall’s feelings for each other. The breath play took my breath away, pardon the awful pun. Those scenes were just done so well, really bringing across the D/s dynamic and the complete trust that exists between Marshall and Oli.

Saved the best for last!

I absolutely loved Oli and Marshall. Loved the unconventional way their relationship began and how it saved them both.

Oli was convinced life would never give him a break and Marshall had simply given up on life. Two souls from different backgrounds that unexpectedly found each other at just the perfect time.

Oli really gave Marshall a reason to fight for his life. A reason to look forward to the future with hope. So much could have happened had they not met when they did, but everything they went through was meant to happen so they could find each other.

This whole series is my new omegaverse fave. So many babies! I love how all these tough alphas just became putty for their omegas. They were willing to move heaven and earth to make them happy and give them the love they deserved.

I will definitely be relistening to this series in a near future because it’s just that good! I’ll never get tired of listening to Michael Pauley. That man is just such an amazing narrator.

Oli and Marshall touched my heart and are my favorite of this series! Oli and Marshall’s love story touched my heart and made me cry big ugly tears, made me laugh and made my heart sing with happiness. I love this author's writing! The world-building in this series has been awesome and each new layer adds another texture and new feels. i am a fan of this whole series, however Oli and Marshall own my heart.

i so enjoyed the banter between the MC's and it was wonderful seeing the previous characters continue to play a role in this story.
i love that these characters started in the virtual world and their relationship flourished there and then through fate, they met in the 'real world' and their connection went super nova.

This book could be read as a standalone, however that would be like having a banana split with no ice-cream and toppings. Good, but amazing when all together. Treat yourself to this whole series! A must read!

I loved everything about this book and I could not put it down. It was a well-written love story about two men with very different backgrounds and in very different phases of their lives. Oli was trying so hard to survive and spent two years trying to find a permanent job in his field. Marshall runs his own successful company but he is lonely and dying because he chose not to have the lung transplant he needs. Once they meet in person they both have to make major changes in their lives if they want to be together and make their relationship last. Oli is funny, sarcastic and loving and makes Marshall laugh every day while Marshall gives Oli the safety and love he needs. They are perfect for each other. All the characters from the previous books are in this story and their support and friendship help Oli and Marshall and we get updates on their lives as well. I definitely recommend reading this entire series.

Oh, how I absolutely adore this series! This book was certainly no exception to that rule. Another bad a$$ alpha with a heart of gold and another sweet, loving, and slightly tortured omega find love when neither of them was expecting it. Does it get any better? I don’t think so. This book was especially poignant, dealing with not only love but potential loss of of a loved one and how a couple deals with that on a day to day basis. I was on the edge of my seat with my heart in my throat… and I loved every minute of it! It was so satisfying watching someone get everything they’d never even dared to dream for themselves. This book was insightful and inspirational, impassioned and intriguing, romantic and sensual, and absolutely riveting. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet and sexy read.

This was a pretty good story about Oliver an omega who falls in love with Marshall who is terminally ill. Normally I have no problem with books not meeting up with reality, but for some reason I couldn’t do it with the book. I kept thinking about the real-life consequences of Marshall’s illness and while I really liked the HEA, I couldn’t buy into it 100%. It made me sad if I’m honest.

Oliver was a wonderful character. I especially loved his sense of humor and how he never gave up even with all that life was throwing at him. Marshall, I liked also, but didn’t understand his reluctance to get help early on. It’s really hard for me to identify with someone who basically gives up on life.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It definitely can be read as a standalone since I didn’t read any of the others in the series. I do think though that the reading experience would be enhanced by reading the prior books in the series first

Life is one breath one moment at a time
I don't know if I could personally request a more detailed and diverse set of characters and circumstances than those present within this series
Each book is so unique yet they all have that common thread that ties you up emotionally and holds you bound throughout the stories
This one was very close to my heart -
Marshall has achieved success - acquired a massive amount of wealth- Is the head of a prominent company - he has it all -
except for love -
When there is nothing left worth fighting for it is time to let go
Or is it?
Oli has nothing - life has kicked him at every turn - His life seems to be a cosmic joke - and he is the punch line
Despite all of this - he still gets up each and every day - he still holds his head high and he still finds the need to laugh and love
This is one that should be read with a bit of mirth and a box of tissues

Emotive, powerful and so steamy! I loved it!

OMG, I felt for Oli at every turn. He'd been dealt a hard hand but just kept on pushing through time after time. I'm so happy he finally found the happiness he deserved even though he had to fight tooth and nail for that too. Oli is amazing and so strong to keep pushing through and having eternal optimism even with a hefty amount of sarcasm on the side.

I loved their virtual relationship and duel points of view. I could feel the emotions between these two even through a messaging app. I loved there real-life meeting and was so glad that wasn't dragged out at all. They have the same, if not more powerful chemistry when they meet than they do online. Throw in a forgetful moment culminating in a life-changing pregnancy and this story will tug on your heartstrings. While I know it is called Breathe and there are multiple reasons for that, I have realized that breathe play in this context is just not my thing, but the was really only one scene with it and everything else is so wonderful, it didn't really affect my love of the story.

Fantastic narration by Micheal and now I just need to go back and listen to the rest of the series. Piper and Micheal make a dream team!!
