It could just be because this was a novelization for kids, but the story seemed to lack depth. There were a few cool things about it, and I'm sure it's going to be a very pretty movie, based on the descriptions and the pictures, but it's pretty shallow. Particularly the...*ahem* "strong" female character. She...helps a man with his problems. Basically. I don't know, it just didn't ring any bells with me. I'm sure lots of people will like the movie, but there's no way it's reaching Frozen levels, is all I'm saying.
The novelizations hardly ever follow the finalized film to the letter, so perhaps the movie itself won't be as annoying as this book. While there were some charming moments and the climax was actually quite good, the beginnings are about as cliche as you can get in the strong heroine genre of Disney. In fact, it felt more like a Pacific island-based ripoff of Pocahontas or The Little Mermaid than an original plot - though at least Pocahontas and Ariel didn't spend the first half of their stories being rescued or handed opportunities by the ocean. Still, a male-female team each with skills to offer, without a hint of romance, is nice to see, and there are a few cute lines.
Without giving too much of the plot away (I can't wait to see the movie!), this is a tale based on Polynesian mythology and folklore. In an ocean populated by humans, demigods, and monsters, one teenage princess must learn how to find a way for her people to survive -- and thrive -- in perilous times. This epic adventure is sure to please all lovers of mythology and fantasy. The heroic quest has a happy ending -- but not without some close calls along the way. Highly recommended for Disney and mythology fans of all ages!
I wanted to read this book because when I saw the trailer for the movie I still had no clue what it was about. Even though this is a junior novelization, I found it to be very confusing in some parts and had to reread those parts to figure out what they were talking about. The story and moral is the same as in most Disney stories, just with different characters and setting. I love stories about powerful women, but I don't think they always need to be at odds with their fathers or family to prove they are strong. And most of all, it didn't solve my problem of whether to spend the money on a movie ticket.
Not a bad book, but a best it's supplemental to the movie. Great to read to kids who love the movie! But it also didn't really add anything. And, if for some reason you read this before you saw the movie, you would definitely find it to be lacking something. Basically, this book doesn't tell Moana's story. This book describes what happens in the movie that tells Moana's story. And obviously there's no music in the book, and that literally cannot be helped; but there's an emptiness you feel when you get to moments where there are fun set piece songs and instead you get, well, nothing. BUT- perfect if you have a kid eager to be read longer stories while one is still content with much smaller books. We read it over the course of a few weeks or so, usually one chapter/scene a day.
Where to start... Writing a review for this book is pretty much impossible as anything to do with Moana and I have an immediate bias! However this book is FANTASIC!! I have read this book from cover to cover more times than I can count and I have fallen asleep to this audiobook an abundant amount of times as well! In other words, THIS is my comfort book! This book is written for a younger audience but I don't think you need to be a child to read this! There are some extra scenes, extra bits or changed lines of dialogue, and it makes an overall enjoyable reading experience! The 8 pages of photos include one of our only looks at a deleted song titled "Warrior Face". All in all, I love this book and I hold it very close to my heart.
My daughter loved having this read out loud to her! My only complaint is that it didn't have the songs, lol! It's just a novelization of the movie, but since it was such a great movie it was worth reading it aloud to my girl.

I know this is a children’s book. However, it was a really good easy read. I love tropical beach stories which is one reason why I loved this book!! I also love Disney!! So this was an awesome book!!! 💕
its a good book I like how they made it the same as the movie and it has a really nice details the drawings were so pretty and nice and they should come out with a book of Moana 2. that's all bye
POPKULTUROWY KOCIOŁEK: Vaiana: Skarb oceanu to kolejna w ofercie Egmont Polska komiksowa adaptacja znanej animacji Disneya, przenosząca filmową opowieść na papier. Główna bohaterka, młoda i niepokorna Vaiana, wyrusza w morską wyprawę, by przywrócić serce bogini Te Fiti. Dawno temu skradł je półbóg Maui, co zaburzyło równowagę natury. Ciemność zaczęła pożerać kolejne wyspy, a mieszkańcy Motunui przestali wypływać poza rafę. Choć Vaiana nie zna morza, ocean powierza jej misję naprawienia błędu przeszłości. Towarzyszy jej Maui – zadufany w sobie, ale niepozbawiony uroku. Ich wspólna droga obfituje w przygody, niebezpieczeństwa i przemiany. Komiks opowiada o odwadze, przyjaźni, odpowiedzialności i poszukiwaniu własnej tożsamości.
Komiks Vaiana: Skarb oceanu to przede wszystkim skrócona wersja filmu, skierowana do dzieci w wieku 7–12 lat.
Dzięki temu dzieci mogą łatwo rozpoznać ulubione postaci i sceny....
This graphic novel Moana is nearly exactly like the movie. It is about a young girl, who feels called to the ocean. Her father tells her, again and again, to stay away from the reef but she can't do it. She leaves her island to save her people from the lack of food. She finds a demigod Maui to help her return the heart. It is a difficult journey but in the end, they return it. This results in the healing of all of nature. She saved her people.
I chose this novel because it is my favorite Disney movie and it did not disappoint. The graphics are beautiful. The storyline is heartwarming because Moana finds her true self after struggling with believing that she is not enough to do it. She finds her courage listening to her grandmother, whom she looks up to.
I would use this story as an example of courage. Things may seem nearly impossible but with courage and maybe a little help, they can do whatever they set their minds to. I also would use this to show love and respect for nature. When they were not respectful of nature it did not go well for them, when they did, it was beautiful.
the story is about a girl Moana who like the ocean but the island have rules. I wanted to read this book because when I saw the trailer for the movie I still had no clue what it was about. Even though this is a junior novelisation, I found it to be very confusing in some parts and had to reread those parts to figure out what they were talking about.
I have this in both the e book and audio. I seen the movie book is so much better your imagination will take off this isn't just a story or book for kids but for the young at heart as well. Great book with excitement and adventure.
