Leah Laurens has always been a lover of historical romance novels since young, especially that of Western Romance.
A romance set in the American West, Leah’s novels involve characters that are strong in character, each with a strong personality and with different pursuits in life. The Hero has his own adventures in life that he wants to pursue, the Heroine learning to survive and conquer the harsh challenges sometimes. Despite the many differences, there is somehow a destiny the hero and heroine must fulfil by meeting each other and to fall in love.
Through Leah’s writings, she hopes to inspire many who are waiting, questioning about love in a sometimes cynical world. That there will always be that silver linings in the clouds which one sees in their life.
Betty is wanting out of her marriage. She has been through a rough time with Clifford. Issac is young but loves Betty and wants to be a preacher. They get married and luckily escape someone finding them.
Remove forward 10 years. Betty and Isaac are stuck in a rut. Issac is now drinking while still preaching.
Naomi is being abused by her drunk husband and seeings advice from Issac. This causes problems for everyone. Betty tries to believe things are ok but Issac makes it hard as well.
With Revered Cushing coming to visit via Betty’s requests can things get back on track?
At first I didn’t care of Issac but he grew on me as the story went along. Betty was strong headstrong at times when she should have been more open in communicating.
The characters do grow on you and you come to adore them. The plot was great and made a person think about what goes on in a marriage and what can happen.
My review today is on A Western Romance Book, A Bride in Hiding by Leah Laurens. Although this book isn't the next in her last series it is still part of the town of Valley Glenn. This book is full of twist and turns. I'm sure you're going to enjoy it.
Betty Bramble was married to an abusive, cruel man. She finally had enough so while he tried to beat her she pushed him back. He stumbled and fell on the blade of his plow. The sheriff called it a farm accident even though her face was badly beaten. She marries a man seven years younger; a man learning to be a pastor to avoid conflict in the town they eloped. Now several years later she is childless and fears God is punishing her for her secret. She has crawled into herself and given up on her marriage. As a last hope she writes to Pastor Cummings her husbands mentor.
Issac Whilton was in love with Betty Bramble even though she is several years older than he is. He leaves his job and they move on. Now years later he is the pastor of his own church but things aren't going well. They have been unable to have a child, Betty has turned from him, he has crawled into the bottle, and a woman in his church is trying to seduce him. His old mentor comes to town and Issac must deal with his life.
God has a plan for these two, a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too. Make Him Lord of your life and watch Him turn your life around.
A Bride in Hiding by Leah Laurens is the first book in Brides of the Midwest and is A Western Romance Book.. it deals with trust ,lies and secrets. It is the sotry of Betty & Isaac. They marry and the secrets just make things worse. The past catches up with them at the same time a temptation is there in the present. It is a rocky road to a haapy ever after. It is well written. Leah Laurens pays attention to details which enhance the story. It also deals with Betty being unable to get pregnant. the story made you want to know what was going to happen next while at times you wanted to shout at the cahraters wake up tell ! Stop the secrets that are hurting you but I kept reading. It is a story worthy of your time that also teaches you to think before keeping secrets.
*** I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review***
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were colorful, and believable.
Betty is widowed after her husband has a farm accident. Isaac is 7 years Betty's junior. Betty and Isaac are secretly married, due to people not understanding the situation. Shortly after the ceremony, they leave town. Betty has promised Reverend Cushing that Isaac will finish his training, which Reverend Cushing had started.
Ten years later, Betty is surprised by the man her husband has brought home. Jasper!!!! How did he find her, did he tell Isaac the secret that has plagued her for every year of her marriage? What is she to do now? Who can she turn to? The only person she can think of is Reverend Cushing. Can he help?
Wow, this new series by this great author was a wonderful surprise. I have read all the books in her other series and loved them so much, but I really wasn't sure how this book would turn out but I loved it so much that I couldn't put it down till I finished reading what would happen to Isaac and Betty. I am so glad that they were able to get their HEA, although at times I wanted to strangle both of them because of the miscommunication that was happening. And I can't wait to read any other books in this series that come out. Thank you so much Mrs. Laurens for giving me the chance to read you book, I loved it!
I am surprised at all of the 5 star ratings for this book. I found the story a bit confusing with Betty's husband Isaac being so wishy washy in their marriage. As a pastor giving counsel to a woman from his church, he was very inappropriate, and he also had a drinking problem that really made no sense to me. The story was back and forth. Also one of my main problems with it was the editing. There were so many mistakes that I quit counting. I wanted to like it but was very disappointed. I am going to read the next book in the series but if the editing is like this book I don't think I will finish it. I actually felt sorry for the author that her book was so messed up.
The story of Betty & Isaac originally from Valley Glenn, IN (of the Mail Order Bride Series). Betty is running from a past, that even Isaac is unaware of. Isaac is just running. They both need to face their issues and each other. Laurens does a great job showing the terrible communication this sweet couple between themselves. And, because of that, you can definitely feel the frustration that is always around Betty & Isaac. A sweet story about facing the past and accepting your limits. Learning to give love more freely and learning to accept that love.
The love story of Betty and Isaac. Betty first husband was kill in a farming accident or did he? Betty meet Isaac when he was eighteen and she 23, and the town thought they should not be together. They marry and lever town. Now their marry is in trouble can they save it or will all be lost? Great story.
I wanted to like this book more. I really wanted to give it more stars I only gave it three because the chapters were short and I love books with short chapters! It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t good. It did keep my attention though not sure if I’ll continue in the series or not we’ll see this was the first in the series I’ve read.
Not my favorite book, but it is okay. I really didn't feel any strong feelings for the characters. To me, it was just your standard cookie-cutter cast. The plot was decent, but I think it could have been stronger. No desire to re-read it again and I don't know if I will try another book by this author.
Betty is a widow and in love with a young man who has just become a preacher. They run off and get married, but it is hard being a preacher's wife. Both Betty and Isaac must work through their own personal problems to truly recognize their love for each other. I received an ARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.
One of the best in Leah Laurens' western bride series. Isaac and Betty are very well developed and well written. I enjoyed the storyline and the supporting characters. I voluntarily read an advanced copy for an honest review.
I liked the story. But someone needs to proofread these books before they are released. Numerous places words were either mixed up or mistyped and twice there are words just not there. I hope the next one I read is proofed before sold.
This book had an interesting storyline and that is what kept me reading all the way to the end. I didn't think the editing was very good but it stayed clean through the whole book. I appreciate a clean author.
You have given me a great look into a woman's life back in history. Being a possession and not being able to get away from abuse must have been horrible.
Self defense, adultery, confusion, lies, hope in God for all. Clean, searching story of redemption. This story is hard to follow sometimes but it deals with relationships good and bad.
A Bride in Hiding by Leah Laurens is part of the series Brides of the Midwest. This will have you yelling tell tell your Secrets and work everything out. Very good story. My free opinion ARC Thanks
This story was AWESOME! It had so many twists & turns in the story, I could NOT put it down! I am going to read every book Leah Laurens has ever written!
When Isaac and Betty met, he was a pastor in training and she was recently widowed. They fell madly in love even though she was a few years older than Isaac.
But Betty had a secret she couldn’t share with anyone, not even her husband. This caused problems between them and Isaac turned to drink, which only made matters worse. Add to that another young lady in the church with marital problems who turned to Isaac for counseling or perhaps more.
Then Betty’s past caught up with her in the form of her former brother-in-law, Jasper. Jasper is a wicked man, just like his brother Clifford had been.
Is this marriage doomed or will Isaac and Betty find a way to work things out? Read Leah Laurens’ newest book, A Bride in Hiding, to find the answer.
