Find out all about the criminals, monsters, spooky things + more in this fun encyclopedia!

A big big thank you to my sweet hubby for gifting me this one as a birthday present! I didn’t know this book existed and I am a big SB fan! So I was absolutely squealing in delight when I unwrapped the present and saw this book! Eep!

This book is a a FEAST for us Scooby Doo fans! It lists villains (and fun details) from the classic series. From the OG (Scooby, Doo Where Are You!) to The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo. Yes, all the villains. From the real crooks to magical villains and aliens. Because of course, not all monsters in Scooby Doo are fake! Yep. There are a few series with some real stuff happening! And I had a lot of fun reading all about the villains, absolutely delighted that I remember so many of them still, and that all of my favourites are there! I also loved that, for the ones that are crooks, we also get to read who was in the disguise and why! Plus, we get some quotes if they have that, and also who said the very first Meddling Kids sentence!

Next to villains (btw done per what kind of villain they are which I loved) we also get some deets on the gang along with a family tree for Scooby and also some other fun scenes, like food from the show. I really liked those little extras. Made the book a bit more varied. While I don’t mind reading just about monsters/villains, I think I would have gotten a bit bored if it was just that.

I think what I would have liked to see… is what episodes these villains were found on and which series. Some I recognised, some are easy (I mean the Thirteen ghosts and all that), but some were just harder to remember specifically. Like, this villain was found in insert series insert episode, that way people can have a fun rewatch (or remember things more clearly)!

And hilariously, all the monsters I remembered the less, some even I didn’t remember… are from the series with Scrappy. I HATE Scrappy. Like for real, he needs to just disappear. Apparently my mind just blocked most of the episodes, and thus also the villains. XD

I loved how close the art was to the originals and how much Scooby vibes it gave of. That isn’t always easy, so kudos to the illustrator!

All in all, THANK you again to my hubby and I would highly recommend this book to all Scooby fans!

The only reason why this isn't 5 stars for me is because I feel like the authors missed the opportunity to make this an even bigger and better book. The didn't include any villians from the cartoon movies, and they could have added more recipes at the end too. This could easily have been a 250+ page mega book of all things Scooby, so it does fall a bit flat for me there. However, that being said this is the only book like it's kind on the market right now. The graphic design and whole concept is awesome! Additionally the pages have a great feel, and the villian categories are super fun.

Fun but fluffy. The real focus here is the beautiful artwork and villain profiles. And I love all the little extras like Velma pointing out particular clues that helped solve the mysteries or Daphne adding facts about the show. As an adult, I wish more history was included about the various Scooby Doo tv shows. You sort of figure it out by the file numbers, but a little breakdown of the shows over the years would have been great! The friends section could also be expanded. I can only assume they were't allowed to mention other cameo cartoon stars like Josie and the Pussycats and Jeannie or real life guests like Mama Cass and Phyllis Diller. Jenkies!

Couple of small nitpicky things as a Scooby-Doo Super Fan. This book both acknowledges that Velma is the youngest but miss lists her age as 16 alongside front and Daphne when she is in fact 15 years old. It also talks about the series as if the franchise has ended when in fact it is still going. I think if they had maybe rewarded it in the introduction to clarify the classic era from the '60s to the early '90s that would have been better. But because the early 90s was the cutoff for the encyclopedia none of the directive video movies are featured or the subsequent series which as someone who grew up primarily on those it makes me a bit sad. Come to think of it I didn't even mention the direct to TV movies that aired during the classic era.

Final gripe is that one of the more iconic monsters is Miss colored in his artwork. He's supposed to be green gray looking and they just left him White like they forgot to color in.

Other than the above mentioned things I did like that it included Scooby's entire family even the often now intentionally forgotten Scrappy-Doo. I liked how it treated every monster like a case File instead of an episode. If the place the gang visited for a certain case was real it mentioned it. It mentioned a couple little facts that I already knew but it was cute to see them in the book.

I do wish however that it had given the rest of the group the same treatment when it came to family trees. There are so many quirky miscellaneous relatives that it would have been nice to see every family tree broken down not just Scoobies. At least Shaggy's would have been nice to see as he and Scooby are linked together in Canon through their families Scooby's ancestor traveling with Shaggy's to America and so on and so forth. Maybe if they do a revised Edition.

Jinkies! There's a lot of material here, and it's laid out in a colorful, easy to read / understand format!

At the beginning is a Table of Contents and a "How to Use This Guide." There are also character introductions, including for the Mystery Machine, along with a detailed diagram of what is kept in the back of that van.

There is a "Doo Family Tree," information on some of their Friends, and two pages of "Scooby and Shaggy's Top 10 Eats," which include a photo of the food, along with a brief description.

The other 2/3 of this book is dedicated to describing all of the bad guys and gals that Mystery, Inc. caught over the years, and there are A LOT of them! Villains are divided into: Aliens & Bots, Beasts & Monsters, Crooks & Criminals, Demons & Ghosts, Skeletons & Mummies, Witches & Wizards, and Vampires & Zombies.

At the end of the book is a recipe to "Make Your Own Scooby Snacks!" and an Index.

Fabulous for kids of all ages!

Not much here. Basically a guide to all of the characters, especially the villains. Since it's the 50th anniversary of Scooby Doo I was hoping for something a little more. There was no mention of the movies or comic books.
