Screenplay:
Celine: People just have an affair, or even entire relationships. they breakup and they forget.
They move on like they would have changed brand of cereals. I feel I was never able to forget anyone I've been whit because each person had their own specific qualities.
You can never replace anyone what is lost is lost.
I see in them little details, so specific to each of them, that move me and that I miss and will always miss.
You can never replace anyone, because everyone is made of such beautiful, specific details.

پیش از طلوع و پیش از غروب، دوگانه‌ای‌ست درباره‌ی انسان و عواطفش و به صورتِ جزیی‌تر پایداری یا ناپایداری روابط بینِ انسان‌ها. در قسمت اوّلِ این دو گانه ما با دو جوان آشنا می‌شویم که سرشارند از احساس، از عاطفه و هنوز به عشق و حُرمت آن اعتقاد دارند و تنها چند ساعت فرصت دارند تا با یکدیگر باشند. علائق و دلمشغولی‌های مشترک خویش را بیابند. (حضور) یکدیگر را درک کنند تا از هم (شناخت)ی به دست بیاورند؛ بل‌که این (حضور) بتواند، باعث شود تا آن دو مابقی عمر خویش را به دنبال شخص دیگری نگردند و باور کنند این دیگری همانی‌ست که به دنبالش بوده‌اند و باید باشد همانی‌ست که حضورش می‌تواند رنگِ دیگری به زندگی‌شان بدهد. لحظه‌ها را سرشار کند و هنگام بیان نام یکدیگر دهانشان عطرِ خوشِ آشنایی به خود بگیرد

امّا واقعاً (آشنا) شدن با یکدیگر و در کنار هم بودن و با یکدیگر زمان را سپری کردن باعث می‌شود تا ما به (شناخت) از طرف مقابل برسیم؟ این تصوری‌ست که اغلب ما انسان‌ها داریم که وقتی در کنار هم هستیم و زمانی را هر چند طولانی با یکدیگر سپری می‌کنیم، از طرف مقابلمان دارای یک (شناخت) می‌شویم. این صرفاً یک (تصور) است. واقعیت این است که ما از خویشتن شناختِ کافی و وافی نداریم، پس چگونه می‌توان از دیگری به شناختی کامل برسیم؟ ما از طرف مقابلمان صرفاً یک (تصویر) می‌سازیم. یک (رویا). تصویری که دوست داریم باشد. تصویری که خود از آن تهی هستیم. و این تصویر را بسیار دوست داریم. این‌جاست که وقتی آن‌چه را در یک رابطه می‌خواهیم و به دست نمی‌آوریم پناه می‌بریم به عالم رویا. می‌آییم به آن رابطه از جهات مختلف نگاه می‌کنیم چون باور واقعیّت سخت است و برای سرپیچی از آن هر کس بنا به شخصیّت خویش دست به عملی می‌زند. (جسی) فیلم یا داستان ما وقتی معشوقه‌اش بر سر میعادگاه حاضر نمی‌شود نُه سال از عمر خویش را صرف نوشتن می‌کند. از یار می‌نویسد. از عطر خوشِ یار و (حضور خلوت اُنس). و وقتی (سلین) علّت را جویا می‌شود، پاسخِ (جسی) این است: " بعد از نیامدن تو، بعد از تنها ماندنم، زندگی‌ام به یک سقوط تبدیل شد" و تمامِ جانِ کلام همین جمله است. (جسی) در (پیش از غروب) تبدیل به آدم دیگری می‌شود. (تنهایی) را احساس می‌کند. با ذره ذره‌ی وجودش احساس می‌کند و برای پُر کردن این تنهایی و برای احتمال دیدار یار، نه سالِ تمام، یک شبِ با هم بودن را می‌نویسد. از معشوق می‌نویسد و عطر خوش وصالِ او

در (پیش از غروب) نیز (سلین) لب به اعتراف می‌گشاید: " احساس می‌کنم هیچ وقت نمی‌تونم آدمایی که باهاشون بودم رو فراموش کنم، چون هر آدمی ویژگی‌های خاصِ خودش رو داره و هیچ وقت نمی‌تونی آدمی رو با آدم دیگه‌ای عوض کنی... چون هر آدمی جزئیات زیبای مخصوصِ به خودش رو داره ". (سلین) در طول این نه سال مشغول زندگی شده. سعی کرده آن شب را فراموش کند و یا حداقل به دورترین نقطه‌ی خاطرش بسپارد امّا " تا وقتی کتابِ لعنتیِ تو رو نخونده بودم حالم خوب بود – اون موقع همه چیز به هم ریخت. یادم افتاد چقدر رمانتیک بودم، چقدر به همه چیز اُمید داشتم... به نظر می‌رسه تما احساس‌های عاشقانه‌م رو اون شب جا گذاشتم و دیگه نتونستم تا امروز همچین احساسی به دست بیارم. یه جورایی اون شب، هر چی داشتم ازم گرفت. احساسم رو بهت دادم و تو با خودت بُردیش". (سلینِ) داستان ما نیز (دُچار) تنهایی شده.

تکرار می‌کنم: ( دُچار تنهایی شده). این‌جاست که با تمام هوش، زیرکی و ذکاوتِ زنانگی‌ش، (جسی) را به منزلش مهمان می‌کند، چایِ بابونه برایش مهیا می‌کند، ترانه‌ای برایش می‌خواند و تقلید (نینا سیمون) را می‌کند. تا این آخرین لحظات برای هر دو جاودانه شود. تا اگر قرار است این آخرین دیدار باشد، زیباترین وداع باشد و این‌جاست که (جسی) می‌داند از ساعت پروازش عقب مانده است و آخرین مونولوگِ این دوگانه از زبان (سلین) بیان می‌شود: " هی، تو عزیزم، پروازت دیر می‌شه". و (جسی) دیگر نمی‌خواهد این نه سال بی‌خبری، تنهایی و خَلا ادامه پیدا کند و می‌خندد و چه زیبا می‌خندد و (پیش از غروب) با موسیقی و صدای (نینا سیمون) فِید می‌شود
پیش از طلوع و پیش از غروب چه در قالب فیلمنامه و چه در قالب فیلم ساخته شده از آن، دارای تفکر و نگرش عمیقی‌ست به انسان و تنهایی. تنهایی. تنهایی عریان. و خواننده و بیننده بعد از خواندن و دیدن این فیلم احساس می‌کند که به زندگی‌اش، به لحظاتش، به جان و هستی‌اش چیزی اضافه شده؛ چیزی ناب و غیر قابل جایگزین

Have you ever taken a journey alone? Have you felt the thrill of meeting someone on a journey? When you take a seat in the train/ bus and wander who would come and sit next to you? Will it be someone you can talk to? Do you still remember that conversation you had with a young stranger on the journey somewhere. You forget the face, you forget the journey but you never forget the conversation... It is like you are living a moment only to create beautiful memories for the future... this is THE premise of this movie and the book version of screenplay.

How weird is it that when you read a book you wonder how the movie will be and when you see a movie you wonder how it would have been if it was a book. In latter though you don’t wonder too much because the characters and places already resemble that of a movie. Very frankly this is the first time that I have enjoyed both the book and the movie so much.

It is an age old concept of two strangers meeting in a strange place and falling for each other, but this movie/ book provides a new meaning to it. The first part does not end usual with boy chasing girl on a running train and them getting together, neither the second part. Both parts are about the time they spend with each other before sunrise and before sunset. Are love and romance different, or are they same? If we love someone do we need to romance them or vice versa... When do you know that you are attracted to someone? When does this attraction turn into love? Sometimes spending some beautiful moments together is what you remember the most in your entire life lived. How one night changes your entire life and how you end up meeting the most strange but most cherished people in most unexpected circumstances. Is it what they call being open to life?

They are lovers in their own right - they play, they tease, they share, they emote, they foreplay, they argue, they debate, they discuss, they ask, they answer, they tell, they lie, they confess, they desire, they get, they give, they hold, they leave, they stay, they come back, they keep, they remember, they move, they walk, they lie, they journey, they laugh, they cherish, they wander and they romance. I only learnt one thing - love is survival but romance is living... some people can live their life in love and some only need a lil romance to live it... but the best part of the book were the conversations between these two strangers. It tells a lot about them and hides enough to keep the other person wanting more. Like they say!!

Love is like this escape for people who haven’t learned to be alone or to make something of themselves. People think love is this unselfish or totally giving thing. But if you think about it, there’s probably nothing more selfish.

Spaced roughly ten years apart, these films were essentially my foray into Linklater's films, and eventually, after 10-12 watches, I was able to appreciate the excellence of both. As an avid conversationalist myself, the internal logic of the screenplays, which wasn't apparent to me on watching, has been made abundantly clear by reading this. At the outset, it seems like a movie, driven solely by dialogue, but when you've had conversations in your life that lead to true connection with a fellow human being, you really do understand the romance in the movie. By the nature of the dialogue, it's not a romantic conversation through and through; it's in fact the conversation about the things one deeply feels about in life, in fact, the kind of conversations it's possible only to have with a stranger, who knows nothing of where you come from and empathizes solely to connect, without any purpose or goal. This is a tribute to the human endeavor to truly experience empathy.

جيسي وسيلين قصتهما أسرتني منذ البداية غريبان تتقاطع رحلتهما على متن قطار ما بين نظرة عابرة وإبتسامة فاتنة وحديث ينس��ب تنطلق في هدوء جمال البدايات.



فجيسي الكاتب يتعافى من تلاشي حب قديم وسيلين طالبة السوربون ذات الأحلام الكبيرة لا يضيعان سحر اللحظة ويقرران أن تمدد قدر ما يستطيعان فيقضيان في فيينا سويعات يبقى لطفها ذات أثر يبقى مطبوعا في ذاكرتهما وقلبهما للأبد.

يمتد لقائهما حتى شروق اليوم التالي حتى تحين موعد طائرة جيسي المحلقة به نحو الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وموعد قطار سيلين المتجه بها نحو فرنسا فهما شخصان يفصل بينهما محيط وقارتان ولكنهما يتفقا أنهما رغم المسافات والظروف أن يتقابلا بعد ستة أشهر في فيينا مرة أخرى وربما حينها يتأكدان أن لحظتهما التي سرقاها من الزمن هي ما سيربطهما للأبد.

تمر تسعة أعوام وتتقاطع رحلتهما مرة أخرى هذه المرة في باريس في أثناء الرحلة الترويجية لكتاب جيسي الرومانسي المقتبس من لقائه بسيلين.

الآن بعد دخولهما معترك الحياة والعلاقات يتضح تأثير نضج شخصيتهما على لقائهما الثاني.

فجيسي الكاتب المتحقق ذو الشهرة الحديثة وسيلين المهتمة بالبيئة وقضاياها وأهتممها بتغيير ما تستطيع تغييره يحول لقائهما إلى سجال واقعي ناضج.

تسعة أعوام تزوج فيهم جيسي فقط لإيمانه بأهمية الإلتزام ولأنه كان سيصبح أبا وسيلين بعد كسر قلبها العديد من المرات تلاشت أحلامها الرومانسية وإيمانها بوجود الحب.

تجدد حنينهما لما شعرا به من رابط في تلك السويعات القليلة قبل غروب الشمس حيث ستحلق رحلة جيسي نحو بيته الخالي من البهجة والحب.

ولكن يقرر الثنائي أن تلك السنوات التسع التي فرقتهما فيها الدروب قد أثبتت لهما أن ما جمعهما يوما قلما يتكرر وأنه قد حان الوقت ليجمعهما درب واحد.




Before midnight

تسع سنوات اخرى تمر بهما وهما سائران في دربهما تسللت الرتابة إلى حبهما وتعصف بهما أزمات منتصف العمر ومسؤليات العمل ويطغى على حياتهما دورهما كوالدان.



كان هذا السيناريو الثالث هو الأصدق والأقرب إلى قلبي فهنا كان إمتحان حبهما الحقيقي.

إمتحان يتطلب الكثير من الود والتفهم والتضحية وهذا الشيء الأخر الذي يبقى بعد زوال سحر البدايات وانطفاء الإنبهار والشغف.


ألم تمر بنا جميعا لحظة لو عاد بنا الزمان سنفعل كجيسي الذي بكل صدق سيعيد إقناع سيلين بمغادرة القطار معه أو ستثقل علينا الحياة والعمل والأطفال والشريك فنصب جام غضبنا على تلك اللحظة ونتسأل كسيلين هل كان حريا بها أن تغادر هذا القطار؟



لقد مضى بنا قطار العمر الذي مهما حاولنا جاهدين تخيل سيناريوهات اخرى كانت ستتخذها حياتنا لو لم نتوقف في محطة معينة فسيبقى قطارنا ماضيا بنا وكل ما نستطيعه هو الترقب بأمل وصولنا للمحطة التالية ولا نملك سوى المضي قدما مع من يختارون البقاء معنا منذ شروق شمسنا لغروبها لمنتصف ليل عمرنا رغم صعوبات الطريق.



كانت هذه أولى قراءاتي السيناريوهية ولكن بالتأكيد لن تكون الأخيرة ❤

طي چند سال گذشته فيلماي خوبي ديدم،فيلماي فوق العاده كه هركدومش كلي درس بهم داده،كلي هيجان زده م كرده و حتي تو شرايط بد روحي باعث شده قوي شم و حالم خوب شه.
اما... فقط يك فيلم هست كه ده ها بار ديدمش،هنوزم ميتونه شگفت زده م كنه و به طرز عجيب غريبي حالمو خوب كنه.

I watched the film adaptations before reading the screenplay and it’s exactly the same as the films (as expected). I think theres an inexplicable beauty jn written dialogues, hence i enjoyed it even though i knew the entire narrative.

Update status không cho viết dài, thôi thì mình viết review cho từng phần vậy :).

Vậy là đã xong phần Before Sunrise. Dù phim đã xem lâu lắm rồi và chỉ xem 1 lần thôi nhưng nó vẫn để lại ấn tượng hết sức sâu đậm với mình. Khi đọc cuốn sách này, từng hình ảnh của phim lại hiện về rõ nét như lúc mới xem. Đây sẽ luôn là bộ phim tình cảm lãng mạn, sâu sắc và tinh tế nhất của phương Tây mà mình từng xem. Cuốn này chủ yếu là lời thoại giữa các nhân vật, phần bối cảnh, thời gian thỉnh thoảng được giới thiệu sơ lược nhằm hỗ trợ câu chuyện chứ không quá rườm rà chi tiết. Và nếu ai đã xem phim thì sẽ hiểu vì sao có thể nói cuốn kịch bản phim này rất gần gũi với nguyên tác phim. Vì hầu hết toàn bộ phim chỉ là cuộc đối thoại giữa hai nhân vật chính với nhau. Bao nhiêu tinh túy, đặc sắc của bộ phim đều nằm trong những đối thoại đó, giờ được trình bày trọn vẹn trong cuốn sách này. Sách đọc rất nhanh và dễ hiểu, nếu không vì đang bận nhiều việc thì mình cũng không kéo dài việc đọc nó đến vậy. Trước đây mình thích rất nhiều bộ phim nhưng khác với sách, mình không có cảm giác có thể nắm giữ thứ mình thích trong tay được, dù là có mua đĩa phim gốc nhưng cũng sẽ không giữ được lâu. Nay phát hiện ra với những cuốn kịch bản phim này thì mong muốn của mình đã phần nào toại nguyện :). Giờ cũng chỉ mới xong nửa cuốn sách thôi, nhưng tạm ngưng một thời gian đã. Phần còn lại, Before Sunset, phần mà mình thích còn hơn cả phần trước nữa, một lúc nào đó sẽ lại tiếp tục ^_^.

جسی: چرا فکر میکنی لازمه یه رابطه تا ابد ادامه داشته باشه و اگه اینطوری نباشه همه‌چیز خراب شده؟
سلین: ولی برای بعضی آدم‌ها خداحافظی واقعی وجود نداره. فکر می‌کنم اگه یه رابطه‌ی پرمعنا با آدم دیگه‌ای داشته باشی، اونا تا ابد با تو می‌مونن. ما همگی یه‌جوری بخشی از همدیگه هستیم.

سلین: دلم برای آدم‌هایی که باهاشون بودم تنگ میشه؛ انگاری همه‌ش درگیر خرده‌ریزای رابطه‌م. شاید دیوونه باشم؛ اما من توشون جزئیات کوچیکی میدیدم که خاص هرکدومشون بود و همین منو خوشحال میکرد؛ چون هر آدمی جزئیات زیبای مخصوص به خودش رو داره.

Baguus! Belum nonton filmnya sih HEHE jadi ga begitu kebayang (abis ini berencana nonton karena kebetulan ada di netflix). Mungkin karena belum nonton juga kali yaa aku merasa di beberapa bagian agak flat gituudeeh. Tapi aku sangat suka interaksi Jesse & Celine dimana mereka ngomongin apa aja (+ deep talk juga). Dialognya juga ditulis dengan kalimat yang cantikk jadinya banyak yang quotable gituudehh.

(انگشت هایش را به همدیگر فشار می دهد) آدما تو یه رابطه قرار می گیرن، بعدش از هم جدا می شن و همه چیزو فراموش می کنن، طوری از کنار هم می گذرن انگار دارن مارک مواد خوراکی شونو عوض می کنن. احساس می کنم هیچ وقت نمی تونم آدمایی که باهاشون بودم رو فراموش کنم، چون هر آدمی ویژگی های خاص خودشو داره و هیچ وقت نمی تونی آدمی رو با آدم دیگه ای عوض کنی. هر چیزی که از دست رفته، از دست رفته. هر رابطه ای وقتی تموم می شه بهم ضربه می زنه. هیچ وقت جای ضربه ش خوب نمی شه. به خاطر همین خیلی مراقبم که درگیر رابطه نشم، چون منو خیلی آزار می ده.. دلم برای آدمایی که باهاشون بودم تنگ میشه. انگاری همه ش درگیر خورده ریزای رابطه م. شاید دیوونه باشم. وقتی دختربچه بودم مادر بهم می گفت مدرسه م دیر میشه، یه بار از راه خونه تا مدرسه رو دنبالم کرد تا ببینه چرا دیر می کنم. من همه ش حواسم به بلوطایی بود که از درختا پایین می افتادن و تو خیابون قل می خوردن، یا نگام به مورچه هایی بود که از وسط جاده رد می شدن، به برگا نگاه می کردم چطور سایه ی خودشونو رو تنه ی درختا انداختن - همه ش حواسم به چیزای کوچیک بود. من توشون جزئیات کوچیکی می دیدم که خاص هرکدومشون بود، همین منو خوشحال می کرد، اینا اون چیزایی که دلم براشون تنگ میشه، همیشه دلم براشون تنگ میشه. هیچ وقت نمی شه آدمی رو جایگزین آدم دیگه ای کرد چون هر آدمی جزئیات زیبای مخصوص به خودش رو داره.

I have always been fascinated by films. The ability to show a story in motion is just to much to resist. While I have studied and watched many films throughout my life, not many have touched me like these two films. The subtle nuances of lost and found love in these films have had a deep and lasting impact on my creativity. When I heard that the two screenplays where being released together, I quickly set out to buy them and have read them over and over, seeing the scenes and body language from the films in my mind as I went though the words. I won't go into a movie dissertation since this is a book review site, but I just wanted to recommend these two screenplays and films to anyone who is at all interested in films and writing.

These two films are in my top 5 favorite films and I’m trying to improve my screenwriting technique so this seemed a natural book to get acquainted with. I love the dialogue-intensive nature of the stories, especially the second film which happens in close to real time. They do a lot with the arcs the two leads go through without actually having much happen action-wise other than walking around. It’s very economical the way they have to sell the words in order to protest a subtle transformation that builds as the story moves along. The screenplays reinforce this as there is very little stage direction at all to pivot the emotional choices the characters make.

How do I love thee Before movies? Let me count the ways.....impossible, this would be one very long review!
I love these movies for a miriad of reasons, suffice to say I watch them once a year and Sunset was the main reason why I wanted to visit Paris (sorry Mona Lisa!).
The scripts are absolute perfection so it was like being reunited with a long lost friend when I found this online...and even more serindipitous was to realize, when my copy arrived, that it had come from Paris, from Shakespeare's itself ....so to whoever it was that bought it there and brought it accross the ocean, a huuuge thank you for making this little ghostly bookworm very very happy :)
