I live in one of the most beautiful places in Florida, Jupiter, with my wife, two kids and our golden retriever, Vincent. I've been a full time author for the last 15 years and I wouldn't trade it against anything in the world!
My father was a journalist and wrote about some of the worst crimes you could ever imagine, and that's where my big interest from serial killers and other horrible crimes comes from. Just to hear my father talk about the evil acts of Ted Bundy as we were out fishing as a kid are some of my best memories.
The newest installment in the True Crime Stories series by Jack Rosewood, and it does not disappoint. Included are 12 true crime stories, all different, but cover murder cases in our society. Some are high profile cases while others are not. The stories were all well researched and well written. Mostly just the basic facts, but it was not puffed up with extra fluff that is not really needed. I like this. He gets to the heart of the story and goes from there. And he never forgets what is important - the victims. Yes, another hit for Jack Rosewood.
As always, Jack Rosewood delivers again. Well written, factual stories. I've read other versions of these same stories and they never seem to stick with me by the end of the book. But I'm still thinking about the second story in, I learned things I didn't know before even though I had read about this girls many times.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really enjoyed this anthology of true crime. It ranged from thrill seeking teenagers to murderous cheerleeder mothers, and while it was short, it was informative. It made me want to read more into the various crimes in the audiobook.
As with previous volumes in this series by Rosewood, these are article-length case summaries that cover the basics, but omit much detail. These are particularly interesting cases and I like Rosewood's presentation, but I'd like more information and clarification. Also, a few of the cases are unresolved.
Kevin Kollins performs competently. He seems to have settled in nicely reading this series.
NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
‘Despite living in a cynical society where not many things are taboo, the taboo of murder remains.’
Florida author Jack Rosewood inherited his fascination for heinous crimes from his father, a journalist covering major grim crimes such as Ted Bundy. He is fascinated with serial killers – their development psychologically, their preparation for their life of crime, and the details of how they made their bloody black marks on the world. Jack moves away from his intensive studies of serial killers to explore strange crimes most of which are discoveries for the reader – even the Jack Rosewood reader! In addition to his books on individual serial killers he has published four collections. He calls these collections TRUE CRIME STORIES: TRUE CRIME ANTHOLOGY and in this ninth volume he shares twelve very shocking and strange crimes that have eluded the widespread press.
As usual Jack opens with an introduction explaining the decision to place these gruesome stories before us: ‘In the following book, you will read about twelve crime cases that caused media sensations when they took place and still garner attention due to their strange and sometimes bizarre circumstances. You will read about two men who went through the American legal system—Gauger and Troy Davis—and were convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Both men had plenty of supporters who believed they were innocent, but in the end, only one was proved innocent while the other died on death row. The problem of youth crime is also profiled in this volume. You will read about the brutal and senseless murder that two California girls committed in 1983 just for “fun.” Similar to that case is that of a privileged New York girl who had it all but decided to throw it all away for some street cred and to see what it was like to kill someone. You will also read about a number of truly bizarre crimes that shocked people around the world when they happened. The Australian female cannibal Katherine Knight is profiled, along with the strange and tragic story of the carnival sideshow “freak” known as the “Lobster Boy.” You will also learn about a conservative “cheerleader mom” who was so determined to see her daughter succeed that she was willing to murder to do so. All of these cases are captivating and disturbing at the same time. They demonstrate that humans can be extremely creative and destructive at the same time. Many of the criminals profiled in this book truly thought of new ways to bring misery to others, while some stayed with tried and true methods.
The heinous crimes included in this collection are The Wrongful Murder Conviction of Gary Gauger, The Case of the Youthful Murderers, Cindy Collier, and Shirley Wolf, The Execution of Troy Davis, Daphne Abdela, the “Baby Faced Killer”, The Murder of Helle Crafts, The Murder of Virgil Lamar Ware, Wanda Holloway, the Killer Cheerleader Mom, The Murder of Scott Amedure, Katherine Knight the Cannibal Queen, The Strange Life of the Lobster Boy, Grady Stiles Junior, The Murder of Marlene Warren, and The Phoenix Canal Murders.
Some of these crimes we know, most we do not know. Jack explains in fine detail the facts leading up to the crime and the personalities of the perpetrators. This is yet another extremely fine anthology by Jack Rosewood.
All the stories that follow in this book are shocking and horrible making the reader wonder what the world is coming to when teens kill for fun just wanting to know what it feels like. When all is said and done they have no remorse and no feelings. I for one do not understand how anyone can kill unless it is life or death. Children should make their own money not expect for their parents to pay their way but when a child doesn’t want to wait for them to die but kill them. I never will understand how people think they can get away with these things. It is so shocking and sad. There are mean crimes here each with a different reason. They are interesting, shocking, some you even wonder how they can be real.
Mr. White did a wonderful job on the narration. He did a few character voices which were really good but most of the book is about facts and there is no need for the different voices. He has a very pleasant voice that really adds to the detail of this audio. He gave the facts as they are but with interest like he really enjoyed learning the facts as much as I did. There are no repeats of words, nor any background noise, there are no volume changes. The music fits the story when it is used it isn’t over powering and blends very well. I thought his performance was great and he added a lot to the story with his tones and emotions. I look forward to listening to more of his work.
The author always gives me a very good listen with facts as they are. He makes his audios interesting as he shows you the twists and turns of a real criminal. If you are a true crime junky like me this is one of the books you do not want to miss. It is interesting, holds your attention, the author lays it out from month to month as he gives you the true facts, the outcome and lets you decided if you feel the verdict was right.
As you tell from my profile badge here on Amazon, while I’m a romance author, I also truly love reading this genre of books; perhaps its due to its juxtaposition of this genre to what I write.
In this, his ninth book of the series, the author, Jack Rosewood, has once again given his readers a dozen of some of the more shocking murder cases around. Included here are cases showing how stupid teenagers can become when they’re looking to add some kicks into their mundane existence by killing some innocent unsuspecting individual, and then quickly come to realize the folly of their action.
We all know how mothers can become when they’re strong-willed wanting to see their daughters to succeed in what they’re trying to do. Well, in one story you’ll read about one mother’s plot to get rid of the person and her daughter she felt was responsible for keeping this mother’s daughter off the cheerleading squad.
Women are supposedly the weaker sex, so about a story of a ferocious woman who also happened to be a cannibal.
Some police departments will not rest until they’ve caught the perpetrators of a murder case; a prime example of which is the notorious Phoenix Canal murders where they had enrolled the assistance of professional criminal profilers to help resolve this 20-year old Cold Murder Case.
All-in-all there’s really nothing in this collection that would keep its readers from wanting to keep turning the pages. And giving his readers another collection of 12 amazing murder cases, I’ve given Mr. Rosewood 5 STARS.
kindle unlimited but got it on a freebie day, 1 of 9, so far, collections in this particular series

Grab a cup of tea {*and probably some antacids, etc} and start reading about true murder cases, disappearances and other strange crimes that have shocked yet captured the imagination of people for decades. This collection of strange and cruel crime will surely keep you turning page after page…
This is another great read from Jack Rosewood that was hard to put down. It’s an insightful and graphically detailed account of some of the most horrific and bizarre crimes. In fact, while reading yet another of Jack’s books, I just had to keep turning the pages yet again. Not necessarily because it’s all that enjoyable in any way, shape or form, to delve a little too deeply into the malefic minds of such murderous individuals, but because I sincerely believe that most people are fascinated in one way or another by true crime. Perhaps it’s the human morbid fascination with death. I’m not exactly sure. However, maybe it just astounds the average person as to how depraved another individual can be.
Even if you are a seasoned campaigner of true crime, True Crime Stories Volume 9: 12 Shocking True Crime Murder Cases will surely raise more than a few hairs on the back of your neck. It was a good read and the author gave a perspective to these horrific crimes that was both captivating and mesmerizing. This was one of the better true crime books that I have read recently.
I would highly recommend this read to all fans of the crime genre. I’m also a big fan of Jack Rosewood so it’s another 5 Stars from me. Well done again!
Jack Rosewood has written another true crime masterpiece. In this latest edition of shocking true crimes he covers the Texas Cheerleader Mom who attempted to solicit her former brother-in-law to kill her daughter's rival. Unfortunately for mom the man she tried to hire was a reformed good who ended up turning her in to the police. The background information on this case was detailed and the mom's cold hearted demeanor gives the reader the chills. It just shows how some people who are obsessed by something think they can get away with murder. Another case he covers is the so-called lobster boy of Florida so named by his malformed fingers and feet. She to this disability he turned to heavy drinking, abuse of his family and actual murder but it got him killed in the end. Several other excellent stories including teenage killers and abusive parents are covered in great detail in this book. Theses chilling tales make you wonder and even make you afraid of living in our society where so many deluded people think that they can get away with murder. Well worth the read. I was provided this book for free for my honest opinion.
I was totally caught up in the stories in Volume 9. These were indeed shocking crimes, and I learned much along the way about biker gangs, the Vidocq Society, trash TV, the Lobster Boy and more.
The science of DNA has made the world a safer place, and we should be thankful daily for this extraordinary gift. innocent people are in prison, put there by, we must assume, well-meaning people. For some of them, their future relies on other well-meaning people and DNA.
Jack Rosewood has once again given the true crime buff another set of stories to make you sit up and scratch your head as you wonder "what were they thinking?" I remember hearing about most of these cases from other sources, but it is always interesting to review them from this authors perspective.
The narration was well done. Kevin Kollins does a superb job as always.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
12 chilling stories of crimes that make you wonder about humanity. My only wish was that they were a bit longer and more detailed. Young girls kill for a thrill, a cheerleader mom's desperation to have her daughter on the cheerleading squad, abusive women and more.
This was the first book I've seen in the series but I will be looking for more.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
As always Mr. Rosewood, has another well written and great read. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because almost all stories were written about over and over. So because I felt it was not one of his best books but it was still very well written! So it is def still worth reading! You will still enjoy this book like all his others!! Keep up the great work and Happy New Years!!
Again, another book dealing with 12 unknown, for me at least, crimes. Although not as detailed as his book that feature the story of one particular murderer, these tales are informative and interesting and will make you keep a watchful eye out At the end of the tale of the murder committed after humiliation on a U.S talk show, it says that talk shows have gone out of fashion. As a Brit i have 2 words in reply to that,... Jeremy Kyle!!!!!
This book which is part of a quick read true crime anthology series was pretty satisfying for me. I had only read of the Lobster Boy and the Australian cannibal Katherine Knight (oh, and the wood chipper killer) so I got to learn some new stories. I agree with the author's summation that some of us will always be intrigued by the motivations behind a murder. I read mostly true crime and continue to enjoy it as my favorite hobby.
It was a great read it was also great yet scary to find out what happened to the man on the show Talked to Death. I still remember the video clip of the talk show host drawing out the gay man's sexual fantasies of a straight guy. I remember the look of disgust on the straight man's face.
Mr. Rosewood, you did it again. I have to say that your research is outstanding. Again, many cases I never heard about but the one with the talk show host I remember. That was quite a story. If you like true crime, his books are a must. Keep 'em coming.
These cases are almost too shocking to be true. Still, they make a good read just not right before bed! I wish there were pictures in it. Some of these people have been released now and I'd like to know who to watch out for.
True Crime Stories Volume 9: 12 Shocking True Crime Murder Cases by Jack Rosewood was another great true crime anthology. This collection follows some of the most violent true crime cases. This is a collection for anyone who loves true crime stories. I can't wait to read more by Jack Rosewood.
I really like these true crime collections by Jack Rosewood. They are quick and easy reads; each volume presenting twelve interesting and varied cases.
Featured in this book are miscarriages of justice, a female cannibal, murder as a result of appearing on a TV talk show-I had heard of this case on The Jenny Jones Show but didn't know much about it before. Also mentioned is the Lobster Boy. I had heard of the Lobster Boy but didn't know there was a true crime involved so this was interesting. The UK James Bulger case is also profiled in here. I remember this terrible case.
Because this is not my genre of choice, this book took me by surprise, it is probably the hardest book for me to review . This author would have been a great history teacher, he took real cases and made them into an interesting book, totally surprised me how interesting he was able to make it, so interesting that once I started I couldn't put it down till the ending. The performance was perfectly done to. All I can say is that I recommend this book it's amazing how interesting it is!
